Denning is such a wealth of information. He takes the stock basic question and answers it very indepth, without pausing and with great insight. I loved this video.
I love that he mentioned the fact; unlike other motorsport, there's no communication with the rider other than the pit board. Very human sport, not based on team management & input into the machine. Excellent explanation, great vid.
He was so good on camera and very detailed in his replies. I was concerned about whether I'd annoy him with basic questions since my bike knowledge is very limited. Glad to know we were able to put together something helpful :)
I think that behind all the knowledge he obviously has, was a genuine interest and enthusiasm for what they are doing which then spilt over into him having an eagerness to share the information. As a WSBK, MotoGP fan and allround motorcycle enthusiast who spend a lot of time restoring and tinkering with motorcycles I found the interview informative and entertaining.
Excellent video 👍. Very informative. More videos like this would be very helpful to a lot of people that are new to this sport. Engineers like this are the people I find most interesting to talk to, usually far more interesting than the riders themselves.
I've always wanted to know to what extent, the differences are between WorldSBK machines and their road-going counterparts. I never expected a team boss to be this open and exact with that info. Fantastic vid, cheers for clearing this up for me!
I thought that the superbikes were more like slightly modified stock super sport bikes. But from a 20 thousand euro to 150 there are a lot of mods which i never imagined they actually do, and the weight difference is mind blowing.
was lucky enough to meet Alex and Michael at donnington, such good chaps and remarkable the quick recovery Michael had after his accident. thanks for the VIP tour and signed merch .
I had the great pleasure of driving the race truck for Paul for a few years during the British Superbike Time. Both Paul and his father John are truly gentleman, Sadly I was a little old when I started but loved my time with them. Good luck for 2020 Guys.
I remember meeting Paul Denning at 3 Legged Cross at the Suzuki place , such as lovely bloke to talk to and he's full of very useful information......... I ended up buying GSXR1000 and leathers too 🤣🤣🤣
Great video and much respect for the Yamaha director. The only thing I frown upon is the "only 5second" per lap gap remark between the sbk and a regular R1M... These bikes are worlds apart from the street bikes we buy no matter the rubber we put on. Those 5sec feel like an eternity on the track. The average person may take the further step to think that by the same standards a 600Supersport "is just" a bit slower than a 1000Superbike.
Appreciate the comment - as a demonstration Alex Lowes did a 1m43s on a standard 2020 R1M around Jerez recently... Just 2 seconds off average WorldSBK race pace this year. A lot to do with the rider however, as many journalists were just over 1m50s mark.
I am a hardcore bike and car guy and i have to say this is one of the best videos i have seen on these absolutely amazing and sexy machines and also the rules and inner workings of WSBK💪🏻👍🏻🏁
my comments are very rare, but I had to do an exception this time, excellent video thank you very much and Paul Denning explained everything so open, like revealing secrets! worth every second!
I love when racing is as fair as possible. Everyone runs either the same or very similar stuff making the racing close but as fair as it can be and that's incredibly important to keep the racing exciting but gives everyone equal opportunity to win.
Fantastic chat between you two guys........cant believe its 5 seconds between road and superbike, a huge difference in racing terms but as an R1 rider myself it makes me kinda proud that without any formal trainning and having passed my bike test at the first go that I'm in control of one of these beast's. Not quite at those levels but pretty quick on the road without suggesting the police should look at me......wink wink.
When i was younger, i'm dying to just ride one of these bikes to the maximum... now, i think i'll die with the sheer power of these machines and my lack of ability to tame them... such a majestic and powerful machine...
How beautifully he described every detail. I havent seen any other video from competitive racing teams to give out such information. Imagine having all the jewellery this bike on the road going version just weight 152 kg or so damn. I wonder how fast is this bike compared to moto gp factory machines. The power figures are close and the weight as well
I work for an Italian company that is a supplier (test equipment) to Magneti Marelli. It is exicting to think that maybe some of our products test the ECU for this bikes.
there is no way to explain how a sports/super-bike feels, you have to ride it, there is no comparison with a car or any other thing on 4 wheels that makes you feel the same. They are in simple words: mind blowing
ducati road v4r is probaly the cloeset to there sbk counterpart in terms of power the new v4r makes 240.5 hp with the race kit that pretty much at the same level as sbk bikes.
Then we also have a nice front fender which can bend into the tyre if the rider goes agressive and throws him over to the gravels.. We are looking into that...
I wonder if pro racing riders have a fully custom traction control system that works very different compared to the standard traction control system to go faster and allow for more or less locking of the wheel? idk
It's used to regulate how far is your front brake lever, especieally after few have brakings lever tends to fall inside so you use it to push the lever outwards. You can check my onboards too, know a thing or two about riding on a limit
reduce the weight, better crankshaft, longer wheelbase, redesign swingarm and last but not least is the suspension! jeez its totally different bike from standard
Roxx 13 Appy Because the engine of the R1 and the R1M are the same and as you heard in the video, they actually change everything else. So the only benefit for them to use the r1m is to have more expensive parts not beeing used ;)
Roxx 13 Appy R1 and R1m use the exact same engine and chasis. That’s all they keep on this bike too. Now if they used the R1s then it’s a different story.
A big difference is the chassis and brakes. The motogp guys say the superbikes feel soft and the brakes feel weak (compared to the carbon discs of motogp) also I think Ducati motogp is rumored to make 275hp
the way used bikes are priced you would think a 2004 R1 cost 60k new, like in what reality is a 20 year old bike worth a minimum of 50% its initial MSRP.. they were 9 grand new and people are wanting 5 grand for a "nice one" 3500 for a POS
Old bikes are safer because less complexity to deal with 1 2 3 is easier then if you touch 1 it affects 3 but then 3 controls 2 which makes 1.5 control less likely to engage etc...
lmfao man no they are not. electronics have mad bikes much safer. Just look at the crash rate at California Super Bike School with the ZX-6R compared to BMWS1000RR
Denning is such a wealth of information. He takes the stock basic question and answers it very indepth, without pausing and with great insight. I loved this video.
That's real teaching skill right here
I love that he mentioned the fact; unlike other motorsport, there's no communication with the rider other than the pit board. Very human sport, not based on team management & input into the machine. Excellent explanation, great vid.
All races are teamwork idiot
Such a cool guy taking his time to explain everything in detail and not quick bs answers.
Excellent stuff my man!! 😈👍
right, he's probably the first rep from a team that I've seen who doesn't genuinely seem annoyed by the interviews
@@13mrtraxxas that was my thoughts
He was so good on camera and very detailed in his replies. I was concerned about whether I'd annoy him with basic questions since my bike knowledge is very limited. Glad to know we were able to put together something helpful :)

Don't let him hear you say that 😂
Paul is one of the most intelligent men in the sport. Great video 👍🏻
Excellent video 👍. Very informative. More videos like this would be very helpful to a lot of people that are new to this sport.
Engineers like this are the people I find most interesting to talk to, usually far more interesting than the riders themselves.
Wow , awesome stuff- with all the secrecy around development nowadays it's refreshing to see someone explain all the basics , good on you sir!
Port polish head work with high end special exhausted = HUGE POWER !
I've always wanted to know to what extent, the differences are between WorldSBK machines and their road-going counterparts. I never expected a team boss to be this open and exact with that info. Fantastic vid, cheers for clearing this up for me!

Really cool that Factory Yamaha open up and talk uncover some of the secrecy of WSBK
was lucky enough to meet Alex and Michael at donnington, such good chaps and remarkable the quick recovery Michael had after his accident. thanks for the VIP tour and signed merch

Thanks Street FX for the pertinant questions and big thanks to Denning for the amazing in depth answers !
Great video !
Brilliant... im so depressed I was unable to achieve my dream of being a part of this World. Club racing for 20 yrs is as close as I could get.
Suzuki Kawasaki no doubt, it would be amazing.
I remember meeting Paul Denning at 3 Legged Cross at the Suzuki place , such as lovely bloke to talk to and he's full of very useful information......... I ended up buying GSXR1000 and leathers too 🤣🤣🤣

5 seconds pair lap over race distance is a pretty big margin
Awesome video. Seems like you rarely get an inside look in to these superbikes.
I am a hardcore bike and car guy and i have to say this is one of the best videos i have seen on these absolutely amazing and sexy machines and also the rules and inner workings of WSBK💪🏻👍🏻🏁
this is one of the best interviews with Paul i've ever seen
So informative...with no pit to lane communication this is indeed pure racing on your own...
my comments are very rare, but I had to do an exception this time, excellent video thank you very much and Paul Denning explained everything so open, like revealing secrets! worth every second!

Brilliant. They've come a long way since my first sportbike... a 1984 Honda interceptor.
Their engines might last a bit longer too
Paul Denning is amazing knowing details and nice to hear
8:52 "it's very much a gladitorial sport" Perfectly explained! Also, that's how it should stay
When i was younger, i'm dying to just ride one of these bikes to the maximum...
now, i think i'll die with the sheer power of these machines and my lack of ability to tame them...
such a majestic and powerful machine...
Thank you for posting, Superbikes are where its at!
Very informative after watching this video feels like I don't know shit about racing bikes
Thank you to you and yamaha team representative
Completely and totally awesome! I am building a model of this bike right now, and love your detail shots and information. Thank you!!!
Wow, it takes a car fan to make an awesome bike video!
Glad you liked it! I really have no idea about bikes so this was an eye opener :)
Wow that was an awesome and very informative video, thanks for the detailed insight!
I didn’t know there was no pit to rider...that’s crazy
Awesome video, really let me take a peek into this world.
How beautifully he described every detail. I havent seen any other video from competitive racing teams to give out such information. Really excellent video. Thanks for posting.
very insightful - wealth of info in it. considering you said you didnt know much about bikes, the questions were pretty good.
Exceptional work fella
🔥
Lap record for mmtogp 1:28.49 for wsbk 1:29.230 so impressive
Amazing video! Thank you for this
the best video about the superbike setup ive seen so far!!!! thank you !
Very good and informative video, great to see the teams take part in things like this.
there is no way to explain how a sports/super-bike feels, you have to ride it, there is no comparison with a car or any other thing on 4 wheels that makes you feel the same. They are in simple words: mind blowing
Very interesting video.this gentleman comes across very well
It is wild just how much tech is on these things.... hard to say a bike is better than another.. it’s basically who has the tech sorted.
The front fork and rear shock cost more than a standard biker?? Wow
yes, i believe it's ohlins rvp 25 front fork and ohlins rsp40 rear shock, bloody expensive and not available into public
Can’t go wrong with an R1. Perfect for daily riding and track days. And obviously racing beasts like that machine.
iam a simple man, when i see the R1 i just clicking the like button
Ok, so where can i get a sbk tuned cylinder head and cams for my mt10?😆
ducati road v4r is probaly the cloeset to there sbk counterpart in terms of power the new v4r makes 240.5 hp with the race kit that pretty much at the same level as sbk bikes.
Bautista's v4r is 250 hp😂
But i think road v4r can get up to 230
I like the sticker "SEMAKIN DIDEPAN"
sticker 🙄🤭🤣
Interesting stuff well explained. Thanks!
how much for that built head?
Thank you, Mr. Denning!
Then we also have a nice front fender which can bend into the tyre if the rider goes agressive and throws him over to the gravels.. We are looking into that...
I wonder if pro racing riders have a fully custom traction control system that works very different compared to the standard traction control system to go faster and allow for more or less locking of the wheel? idk
Not a whole lot in it on a one lap flyer but those tenths add up over 26 laps
This is an amazing video. Thanks for sharing!
excellent video, great watch, much appreciated
great interview , well done
Where can I find the swingarm??? I’ve been looking everywhere how can I buy it?
Would be good to know if they rebuild their engine after every race if the bottom end is all stock
I like the FULL ACCELERATION of this YAMAHA R1✌
Very informative video! well done!
Great video thanks..
Very good explanation and insights
Great video, thanks
What's the red knob on top the left handlebar for at 10:33?
It's for the Rocket Launcher.
It's the choke. Helps it start when it's cold.
It's used to regulate how far is your front brake lever, especieally after few have brakings lever tends to fall inside so you use it to push the lever outwards. You can check my onboards too, know a thing or two about riding on a limit
How can we purchase a PATA fleece??????
How did they get suberbike to go 160 kg and 240 hp?? i wanna learn
Masih ada tulisan YAMAHA SEMAKIN DI DEPAN
Hello Paul. Amy nee Dukinfield here. Have you ever taken someone pillion on the track ?
I need a Harris swingarm in my life. If just to look at.
Ismee how deep are your pockets? Or put it on your platinum card. Harris sell to the public 👍
Dave P they are worth more than the bike....
reduce the weight, better crankshaft, longer wheelbase, redesign swingarm and last but not least is the suspension! jeez its totally different bike from standard
240HP wow !!!
Yamaha R1M and a big big PATA logo :))
how do they break in their engine
The races are not safe.very expensive bike,it worth the price.nice video
The suspension is the most important part of these machines.
The brakes are the most important on any motor machine.
Paul Denning is a top bloke.
I am wondering how is the track tyres different from the street tyres
Race tyres can usually only have one heat cycle and only work within a certain temp range
Awesome video 🔥🏍☁☁☁
awesome!
Half a second slowers!?!?
Toprak helped a lot to Denning) He should be very happy)
Awesome!!!
240 is aaaaaaaaaaaalllloooot of power...🔥
Can someone tell me why yamaha cant use R1M coz others use their flagship ie SP2, V4R, ZXRR ? i cant find an answer on the web. TQ
Well i will help you answer it yourself :)
Why would they use the R1M? :)
What benefit would that bring?
How about the R1 GYTR?
Roxx 13 Appy
Because the engine of the R1 and the R1M are the same and as you heard in the video, they actually change everything else. So the only benefit for them to use the r1m is to have more expensive parts not beeing used ;)
Roxx 13 Appy R1 and R1m use the exact same engine and chasis. That’s all they keep on this bike too. Now if they used the R1s then it’s a different story.
So if this bike makes 240+ HP and goes up to 340 KM/h, what makes it different than a motoGP bike?
Tsubaki13 MotoGP bikes are essentially the F1 of motorcycles. Not sure if one darn thing is even close to stock. Lol
A big difference is the chassis and brakes. The motogp guys say the superbikes feel soft and the brakes feel weak (compared to the carbon discs of motogp) also I think Ducati motogp is rumored to make 275hp
Think motogp only restrictions are engine sizes per number of cylinders near enough
I get that, but if the result is not that different....
All MotoGP bikes make 260+ HP.
That's so cool 💚
Very detailed 👍
How do they tune the engine of a road legal R1 that produces 200bhp to a WSBK bike that produces 240bhp ?
nice video very informative
Just the suspension costs more to a stock r1😎
Everything modified... but stock wheels?! I dont get it. Lighter wheels is one of the best modifications you can do to any suportsport.
They where OZ superbike wheels not OE
the way used bikes are priced you would think a 2004 R1 cost 60k new, like in what reality is a 20 year old bike worth a minimum of 50% its initial MSRP.. they were 9 grand new and people are wanting 5 grand for a "nice one" 3500 for a POS

late to comment, but yea you are crazy if you think you have more control, or can be safer on a bike without electronics..... @@patrickmontone2888
