Roger was always a beast in Cincinnati. Not a crazy quick court but lively/high bounce and generally quite windy. Was Novak’s weakest hard court big tournament until he finally won. This was one of Roger’s 3 wins against Novak in 2015, the other 2 being Dubai and ATP Finals round robin. If the younger, top form Novak wasn’t around in 2015, chances are Roger would have a very similar year to 2017. He was a monster in 2015.

That’s why he has the best tie break win %, the best key point win %, and the best deciding set win %. All stats say he is pretty much the best clutch player of all time. Now Federer? Instead of playing the SABR throughout Cinci + USO what if Fed just practiced it in secret and used it in a one-off high profile GS final against Djoko. Because going into the 2015 USO the SABR was creating so much buzz Fed was asked about it in pretty much every post match. I remembered Djoko in USO 15 final clearly looked like someone who had been practicing highly-precise backhand lobs that killed off Fed SABR charge (3 or more of those instances in 2nd and 3rd set if anyone cares to search it up). One ambush tactic was not gonna win a GS final against Djoko but the buzz around SABR really killed off its surprise element going into the USO 15 final.
