Hello. Great video! Been watching these for a trip down "nostalgia lane"; MSSB is one of my all time faves when it comes to the GC era of games. I think you forgot to mention one thing though when covering base running: You can tap B to dash. Any time your player/players are running the base paths, tapping B makes them run quicker. You can visually see the difference as well, as they will be kicking up dust behind them. Maybe you knew already, idk. Just wanted to share. (:
The dichotomy between Mario Spin-offs is wild. Games like Mario Party and Mario Kart can be heavily luck-based and therefore more welcoming to casual play but then you have games like Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, or Mario Power Tennis that can be simple enough to pick up but are deceptively deep and mechanical
I need to try this game online so bad! I'm completely self taught, but I played this game for sooooooo long with my friends that I already know most of what you're covering from experience 😅
Got to introduce my younger brother to the game for the first time this week. The technical side of things appeal to him way more then me, and your videos (as well as the developing meta) got him really into it. Just wanted to say I love the videos, keep it up man.
I was confused the first time I watched this when you said "playing 'stars-off'" and then you talked about star hits. I *now* understand that there are superstars and .. um, ¿"regular stars"? but I was confused at first. I only bother to mention such a small thing because you're obviously becoming a better teacher / speaker / on-camera-presence in every single video. =D
I had done it originally but cut it out because it made the video a bit long and didnt really contribute much to the points I was making. I'll likely do a star hit tier list video in which I'll show off most of the star hits 👍
Great video! Few questions. How does the direction you hold affect the ball's trajectory when you bat? The RNG in the trajectories make it hard to figure out. How does the game decide which runner to move when multiple could go to a given base? I assume it has some priority for going forward, but I can't think of a simple algorithm that would let the player reliably do what they want. What's A/B mashing? I've heard of it but don't know if there's anything to it other than just... Mashing A and B. That's relevant here, right?
Holding up or down can have some influence on the ball's trajectory, although it doesnt always work. Holding up makes the trajectory lower and holding down makes it higher. For baserunning, the game will send the runners forward and back in order of where they are on the bases. If I have a runner going from 2nd to 3rd and one going from 1st to 2nd and I press ⬆️ + X then my runner going from 2nd to 3rd will go back. I'm not sure what happens when you have 2 runners going from the same base to the next but it's pretty rare, I could test it and find out. A+B mashing is exactly what it sounds like, mashing A+B while running the bases. When you're baserunning, the game recognizes both A and B inputs to make your characrer accelerate so by alternating the 2, it's generally easier to gain speed. Technically, if you could single button mash faster than you can mash A+B then it's useless lol. I like to use both thumbs to do this. It doesn't work in the field though because A is jump/dive/throw. Thanks for watching, hope this helped!
@@MrJoesBaseballShow Thank you for the very detailed answer! I very much appreciate it. Really, thank you in general for sharing your expertise with noobs like me.
Every time I bat the ball is caught and doesn't go in the direction I wanted to hit it in, how do I hit in the direction I want. I hold the stick in the direction I want the ball during and after the hit yet it always seems random where it goes. I'm getting fed up of the game, what do I do
The in-game "how to play" for Baserunning says "Tap B repeatedly to dash." ¿But I don't think you mentioned it? Mashing B while fielding comes with the drawback of oversensitive movement control, right? Any details about mashing B as a baserunner?
I cant hit for shit in this game. On challenge mode every game I play I tie or lose. I can hit during practice ok, but challenge mode you get bad characters, any tips?
Love your videos man. Im trying to get into the game but dont know everyone's best position, fielding and hitting. Could you do like a top 3 and a bottom 3 in each position? I know some of them, you have said in your previous videos yoshi in left field and DK on short are the best but I dont know much else and dont know some of the backups if those characters are taken.
I actually have a tier list video for fielding, it's one of the first on the channel! It's only a little dated and most of the takes are still pretty accurate other than Daisy not being in the 2nd base tier.
At 3:19 you say "My Hammer Bros. on the right side of the plate" then at 5:37 you say Yoshi is "a lefty here." Even though they were on the same side of the field? Also you say Red Pianta is a leftie because the RIGHT field wall is lower, but wouldn't it make sense to use Pianta as a rightie since pulling the ball means you hit it further to the right field wall? Why do you have him be a leftie then?
Are we really supposed to take advice from the guy that got triple played by the practice fielders?
You should've seen the video where he got quadruple played by the practice fielders
Tbh it’s mad hard to avoid
😂

Congrats on the 1000 subscribers Joe!! Can’t wait for your Pink Menace cosplay as celebration!
Here’s to 1000 more!

!! Gonna try to play on netplay asap
Where do you play this

thank you for this, im finally getting the game back within a week. so excited!!!
Thank you for this guide. You got a sub outta me. Gl on your grind king
I played this game SO MUCH as a kid, and pick it up again every few years. I had NO IDEA the amount of depth in the tech and chemistry.
Same, I remember playing this a TON with my sister
Same and same!!
Do you have to use an older TV? With the red yellow and white inputs?
@@gone.golfing I have been emulating it on the Steam Deck.
I don’t even play Mario Superstar Baseball but I still watch your tutorials. Keep it up!
Other than hitting the ball early or late to pull or push does holding the joystick in a direction also effect where the ball goes?
There's some amount of stick influence but I wouldnt focus on it until you're fully comfortable with every character you'll use often
You deserve more subscribers. This video helps so much.

i needed a bunch of this info
maybe even more basics!
love the stoof
Great video! To the point informative and very helpful! Definitely worth a subscribe.
u answered tht commenters question from yesterday!!!!
what a champ
thanks for the video! how does inside contact vs outside contact affect the trajectory? and what’s perfect contact? :)
Not sure if I'll get this game but I'm loving seeing more of it!
Congratulations for making it to 1k subs!
Be me.
Waluigi is at bat
Hit a liar ball
Both balls are covered by two infielders
Proceed to get triple played
This game is so underrated
Ngl im kinda new to mario superstar baseball i cant defend the peach and daisy starhit please tell me

I missed playing this game! I was like 4 or 5 when I played it and hopefully they remake this for the switch 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Does it matter if you charge early? Like, does it weaken your swing if you charge early?
I'm curious about the properties of the different stadiums and why only mario stadium is used.

Whenever i jam buttons from throwing controllers i just bash the jammed button and it starts working again 😊(this is unrelated to the video)
There are several more players to charge swing with. Toad, yoshi, monty mole, parakoopa. If you don't you are wrong.
Why do they have to be righthanded to have the pop fly? And why were there some characters that were not listed for specials?
For some reason they get different trajectory when they're right handed. The unlisted characters are the ones with the groundball star hit (it's bad)
@@MrJoesBaseballShow oh, i thought they just did not have specials.

why must push luigi?
If you hit it to the right side of the field, it tends to burn out quicker and the ball is hit closer to 1st base so it's easier to throw him out.
