My brother used to INSTANTLY grab Monty and Goomba for the Ball Dash ability. Put them on 1st and 3rd and I never scored again 😂
When my brother and I discovered their ability, we had a few games like that before we agreed that if someone picked Monty, the other got Goomba by default

This game needs a game guide that is as thick as the Order of the Phoenix
Body check helped win game 2 of the DC World Series last season. Andrew immediately asked “who said body check isn’t relevant?”
It travels in a curve-- pretty straightforward, right?
Good vid as always, though I feel like pointing a couple things out:
1. The official term for "abilities" as referenced in the Mario Superstar Baseball manual is "Special Talent." I prefer using "Special Talent" because ability is a really vague term that can describe things that extend beyond talents.
2. While Super Catch makes you immune to skidding and bobbling, this immunity is easily replicated by other characters by jumping or (in the case of skidding) diving. I feel like this is important to mention.
3. So Clamber actually does have a use outside of high wall stadiums, the clambering speed of Yoshi and Dixie (and I presume Diddy and DK as well though I haven't tested them much) is much faster than their dashing speed. This is counteracted somewhat by the latching onto the wall animation and has extremely limited applications, but I have used Clamber in the past to make pretty significant horizontal ground.
4. Monty's Ball Dash speed is actually faster than Goomba's.
Thanks for the info about clamber, honestly wouldve never known that. I think I did mention jump catching for bobbles but its possible I accidentally cut it lol
I'm absolutely floored that this baseball game I loved playing with my younger brother not only has a comp scene but is deeper than I remember. I remember seeing these Traits and building a team around that and the chemistry function but never knew *why* exactly
I think that with all the detail in this game just with the chemistry ratings, Toad having the Body Check ability may be a nod to his appearance in Super Mario Bros 2 (the Doki Doki clone version) where he had the crappiest jump, but because he had the highest strength stat, he was super fast while carrying any items. Somehow that vest hides it all

@@Naito9874 I don't blame you. I definitely was way more active in this community's early days, but I stopped being as frequent a viewer due to a combination of:
- Getting busy with college
- Slowly watching as the meta developed in a way that I felt left behind
- Felling a general ire from the community due to being one of the laggier players in the netplay side of the discord
- A lack of new and exiting ways to play (which I'll be honest, the league draft format almost revived my interest for)
Aaah, I see I see, it was a fun journey for me to watch and learn about two years ago, but I did stop rather quickly, unfortunately@@TJ-Henry-Yoshi

Didn’t know Para Goomba’s high jump was that high! Also I’m pretty sure I activated wall jump last night without dashing, just pressed A near the wall but maybe I was dashing for a brief moment which put my speed above a minimum speed required for wall jump to activate.
I have a memory of using magikoopa in the field, and he used magic catch to pull in a ball that was headed for a homerun. The pull was slow since the ball was so high
Played for the first time on netplay yesterday, and I’m loving it!

I’ve played this game for YEARS and had no idea about the body check.
Ive seen it but it was one of those mysterious abilities that i didn't quite know how to trigger. I thought it was just pressing B rapidly
I think if Marth was in this game he’d have a further dive range than yoshi

Ball Dash works in Toy Field and in that mode specifically it’s very easy to just outrun your opponents holding the ball allowing you to swing on the next turn (unless the batter gets a 1-up mushroom). Or at least that’s how it works on MSB’s Wii sequel Mario Super Sluggers…
i feel like tonge, suck and magic cacht while in similar range the use of them is diferent to siling cacht to consider them in the same section, as suck and magic grab have easy time caching fliying balls in a diagonal position, (by diagonal i mean up and to the side, so basically a jump and a slinding cacht)

I played this game a lot when I was a kid and NEVER saw the body check ability. Had no idea it existed. The more you know
From a competitive standpoint, are the Kongs a bit weaker because they Climber is useless in the default stadium.

It would have made way more sense for Toad to have Ball Dash rather than Body Check.
I didn't know dash was required for wall jump I've been wondering how it works for so long and the online resources are very limited.
Would've had an 11 inning two run walk off comeback with petey but my friend got wj with toadette!

Yup! The 12 captain characters and Toadette all have 2 abilities (not counting wall splat or curve) and the rest of the roster have 1 each.

Speaking of baseball, I saw an unfortunate incident at a real MLB baseball game where the pitcher threw a pitch…hitting a dove that flew in the path of the ball, causing the poor bird to die in an explosion of feathers. For those wanting to call PETA for this, it was an accident and the pitcher didn’t see the bird until it was too late
