I had a chance to drink a beer with Jerry backstage at a concert in 1998 and it was a truly surreal moment. Nobody else paid him any attention. It was literally me and him at a table bullshitting and felt like chilling with an old friend. What a cool guy

This easily could be on an Alice album. Still has that Alice vibe.
Totally agree, maybe too much this time for his solo album (imo). I mean it's a good song but nothing new or outstanding for me, too generic. I can't really get into it. Reminds me in parts of Voices, Fly, Lesson Learned, Rainier Fog,...+ I don't like the video. I prefer Atone more. Cantrell is a badass (one of my favorite musicians ever) but this time he didn't impress me. Let's wait to hear the rest.
@@MLCrow Same, at 3 minutes it needed a longer solo and to turn a bit darker before pulling back to the bright chorus. Not sure why Jerry has become anti-solo in his later years. He always teases with a few notes or a couple phrases but never commits. 😆
@@ShotOfSelf Probably, talking about this song, I was just expecting something more different (more unexpected) for his so long awaited 3rd solo album. His previous 2 solo albums impressed me very much...but again...we need to hear his 3rd album as a whole first.
He was the brains behind the alice in chains sound, but I agree the sound is too forumulaic, their recent albums all kinda sound the same.
I disagree, for me it doesn't have emotions, Layne was the one who added the power, the rage, the pain, with nowadays AiC I don't feel anything. Just my opinion tho

That is a really interesting comparison and it makes a lot of sense. Prolific songwriter, huge impact on his generation, great musician, not flashy singer, and by all accounts a cool chill dude. You could say that about either Petty or Cantrell.

I would kill for another album as awesome as the first Degradation Trip. It still sounds great to this day.

I'm a huge fan of Jerry's 2nd solo album "Degradation Trip." "Boggy Depot" is excellent too. I'm really looking forward to this one.
