I love how Jerry has his own sound on his solo albums, but yet you can still hear the "Alice" sound in there too. To me he ALWAYS was the heart of AIC.
This song does greatly resemble the "Rainier Fog" material to me, which is great. I especially thought of "Maybe."
He is the heart of AIC but the sound originally that all brought us in to A.I.C. ,came from Layne.
I like that. Jerry is the heart and Layne was the soul. I love both eras pretty evenly though
Agreed!!!!!! 100% my dude!
sounds quiet similar to Alice in chains to me
the moment when he catches his hat is absolutely iconic! what this man has been through, the roads he has seen, the friends he has lost. still standing and going strong and giving us hauntingly beautiful music to comfort one in a darker place. jerry deserves nothing but respect ✊
I caught that too with the hat, I just heard it today, it drew me like a moth to a flame.
Amen! I couldn't have said it better myself.
It's all in the happenstance as he described it and only Jerry's Jedi fortitude and presence could have made these things happen.
Got that from Paul Hogan,him.
Those hair flips though! He definitely still has it.
You all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
I’m convinced jerry has never written a bad song. Absolute living legend. 🤘🏻
The production quality on all his songs is always first class too.
Agree 100%. Crossing my fingers I can see him in 2022 when he comes to Dallas.
Agreeed
Jerry and Alice is 100 times better then nirvana in my book so I agree with your statement
@@Captaintripps1 Jerry is the riff master and can play guitar better than Kurt. I still love the big 4 from Seattle.
Musicians with a sound that is unmistakably theirs are in a league of their own.
Be it good or bad, they're instantly recognizable
Well said. Indeed, the choice of harmony vocals, and minor chord structure and voicings, are all "Very Jerry"... you hear the very core of AIC.
Duff McKagan does a nice job with the throbbing base line on this tune.
The isolated vocal tracks are very trippy and cool: ua-cam.com/video/F76Vp9ODy6s/v-deo.html
@@ranger5281 'Duff'...?
2:13 to 2:48 is undeniably his and it's what I love about him... i gotta fight real hard to like the main riff of the song. i'm TRRYYYing.
It’s the harmonies, Jerry’s pretty unique in that he’s the only artist I know of in rock where his “voice” is actually two, when he sings without harmony it doesn’t sound like him. The only other artists I can think of in general who’s vocal identities are harmonies are Billie Eillish and Jacob Collier, Collier probably being the most extreme example
Jerry please never stop making music. You make the world a better place.
Джерри великий музыкант. Пейзажи на видео,просто поражают,и впечатляют. И сама музыка,просто идеально ложится,на видео ряд. 10 балов из десяти. 😊❤
Decade after decade being one of the best songwriters in the world. He´s the kind of musician who could be able to compose a masterpiece at age 60 or 70.
He’s flat out one of the greatest songwriters ever, absolute fucking legend.
@@puppetmaster8551 Yes. Not only his music has always been elite, but he managed to create a totally personal style in an art that has seen it all, and survived the loss of one of the top singers/frontmen in the 90´s golden era. That is absolutely astonishing.
@Purple Man Man, I couldn't agree more with what you said. So true. I'm sick of people verbally bashing all the Alice In Chains recent 3 albums with William Duvall... Yes, Layne was one totally unique singer/songwriter... but Jerry was the brains behind it all. And it certainly shows with this new stuff he's doing, for those who don't know. Good music is just good music, regardless of who does it.
@@purpleman1974 yup, there has never been anyone else out there like Jerry Cantrell, an extremely great musician snd one who has one of the most unique sounds ever that can’t be replicated by anyone else. Absolute legend, I hope he’s churning out music into his 80s lol, he never disappoints.
@@Parrish_Muhoberac exactly, the band still totally kicks ass today and puts on an awesome show, with Jerry still around writing the large majority of the material AIC will continue on kickin ass. The Duvall haters are clowns, he’s a great musician and person and he’s got fantastic chemistry performing with Jerry, dude has been playing with Jerry over twice as long as Layne did, he’s great and the band is great with him in it, their peak was with Layne but they’re still awesome and deserve respect.
Jerry still sounds the same as he did 30 years ago. Love the guy, glad he's doing more work.
it's called studio help
Na his voice is way deeper
I love that 'darkness' in the chorus. No one else captures that mood better than Jerry.
Laney could aswell 😎
If Layne ain’t smiling from Heaven after hearing this, I don’t want to go.
I love Jerry, so very much. I would love to sit and talk with him for hours. I love all of his music. Takes a special kind of person to be able to express themselves artistically. He is definitely special to me
@diana You all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
Jerry doesn't know how to make bad music 😭😭😭
💯
he knows how, but he chooses not to.
He could try but it would still be spectacular
And you don't know anything about good music!
This song says otherwise.. absolute garbage !!

I’m super excited for the whole album but just based off of the song tittles I’m most excited for dismembered and black hearts and evil done.
@Angus Malroy Exactly...but that was no secret anymore. There's a certain darkness that surrounds the man...you can feel it in his lyrics and music (AIC & solo stuff).
@Angus Malroy he’s always thrown emotion into his music, Almost all of AICs biggest hits are solo written by Jerry lyrics and all, songs like down in a hole have a ton of emotion thrown into them, same with his solo work. Jerry throwing emotion into his work has been one of the signature things of his music. He’s always had demons a lot people just for some reason thought a lot of his lyrics in AIC were Layne’s because Layne song some of them, like down in a hole is all Jerry yet too many people think it’s Layne’s lyrics because the super sad lyrics, Deg trip is also incredibly dark and emotional record, also songs like settling down on boggy depot are super emotional and hard hitting, if you read the lyrics to that song they’re pretty hard hitting especially knowing the lyrics are about the same woman he was singing about in down in a hole and has never really been in a serious longterm relationship or had kids or anything since things fell apart with her. Anyway I’m just rambling now but one of the signature things about Jerry’s music has always been throwing a lot of emotion into the lyrics and music, it’s part of what makes his music special, luckily for Jerry and the fans he didn’t let his demons ruin him and today is in a good place but the darkness and emotion will always be a part of his music even tho he’s older and wiser and doing well.
I'm ready for it!
Thank you so much, I will be buying it.
I am totally obsessed with this song. It is easy to go from one Jerry song from 20 years ago to his latest releases. This video though is particularly epic! Many say Jerry has never made a bad song, and I agree. Every song is crafted and cultured with incredible musicians. I have become a huge fan of Greg Puciato . . . what a beautiful artist!. Jerry finds the best people, always. "Tenderly, lay me down . . . touch my face and speak to me, like a child."
Brighten freaking ROCKS.
He’s also my lifetime favorite musician.
Brighten should get Jerry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame- it's the diamond in a crown of the #rifflord
LYRICS:
Hounded by a feeling that I've known
Following everywhere I go
Falling ashes never done
Turn to flame under the sun
Guilty of some crime
Gotta find a way to atone
Gotta find a way to atone
Trying to find a way to atone
Don't much care to be the other me
One that plays the role of enemy
Falling ashes never done
Turn to flame under the sun
Running out of time
Gotta find a way to atone
Gotta find a way to atone
Trying to find a way to atone
Tenderly lay me down
Touch my facе and speak to me like a child
I want to bеlieve I'll never drown
Can ascend
No release or reprieve to be found
Now seldom seen on the run
Aren't both sides the wrong end of a gun?
Falling ashes never done
Turn to flame under the sun
Somehow crossed a line
Gotta find a way to atone
Gotta find a way to atone
Trying to find a way to atone
Why?
To be judged, stand and deliver
Half-starved, choke on the splinters
Have mercy, can you be the giver?
To speak my cursed name
Wow!
@@Katja_Dikushina It could be his song to Layne?!?! Yes or No???
@@44magneto44 Or the general underlying feeling of his life? Layne is a big part, but not the only loss experience as far as I know. Like a part that blames oneself for something one is not responsible for and then shouts this blame out to the world or, in this case, strives for punishing oneself and hopes to find relief in punishment -> Atone...
Though you could be right too. Probably noone knows. All songs like that come from a different world.

I think that when people win the battle of addiction there is a part of them always supported and comforted by the people they love the most. I guarantee he could feel his Mother and Grandmother around him, loving and comforting him. Either Layne didn’t have that in his life or he just rejected it. I have a sister who’s an alcoholic and she was put to sleep for over a week because she had double pneumonia and three compression fractures in her back all while withdrawing from alcohol. When she woke up she said that my dead parents never left her and she said she could hear all of her siblings ( 7 ) telling her to come back

Like the old wine, maybe better. That Jerry sound in his solist career is amazing.
Got that right Hommie😁
Absolutely 🖤
Couldn’t agree more
Saw him live last week in MN… I’m still buzzing from it!
Makes total sense how Phantom Bride is my favorite song by Deftones.
Jerry contributed to an already amazing band, creating an undisputed masterpiece!

From someone who knows too much personal loss, I’ve learned this lesson the hard way: sometimes the best is yet to come. And this song defines just that. Haunting and beautiful. A true accomplishment.
I feel your pain valley rivers. Lost a child at birth, then two of my best friends within 8 days of each other. That kinda loss puts you in places you may never come out of. God bless JC

We all love you Jerry. I've struggled with addiction for years and been a bit of a shut in for periods of time in my life. Your music has helped me get through those dark times more than you can possibly imagine. If I have just one wish, it's to see you play a live set. I want to hear your tone with my own ears, directly from you.

The Riff Lord has returned and once again blessed us with something dark and beautiful.
The riff lord has let us down. This is a big disappointment.
Who is his Lord?
Cantrell is a very good songwriter, almost feels like a poet to me, and his guitar riffs are kickass!
In fact he is a true poet, and his work has touched many hearts!!!
Thank you for all the support guys!!
Stay safe out there!
Always tastey!!
HE IS, a poet!

@@f.sense888 You are right!!! We are so thankful to have him here. Hope he lives a long and a healthy life!
Jerry is so good at getting true emotions across, no other like him
I have always liked AIC but am going through a bit of an AIC fever atm where I can’t go without listening to them one day. I was in my early teens when MTV used to play Man in the Box and I remember liking the powerful tune but also being a bit scared when the man showed his sown eyes haha. Looking at all the early AIC videos up to this amazing work of art and love to see how Jerry has survived, grown and matured keeping not only his musical gift but his super cool dude style (the long hair & hat with the feathers is his signature). Love the look and sound of this solo album and this b&w video is amazing. Jerry, you are the man and I can’t wait to see u in London in July. Layne will forever be missed as he is irreplaceable, I just hope I get to see AIC sometime with Duvall who has his very own style and goes well with the res of the band.
I have it, too!
Cantrell is great at writing a chorus that goes in a slightly different direction than you would expect it to.
Absolutely
not sure how i feel about this song. im more concerned about the album is cut so short to 9 songs while degrdation had 24 songs vo,umes 1 and 2 i just hope hes got some heavy stuff mixed in there dark.
@@broski4851 he said there is still some darker stuff in there but I highly highly doubt it’ll be even remotely close to as dark as Deg trip which is extremely dark because he was at the lowest point in his life writing that, has even talked about not liking to revisit that album
Because of that, it’s a masterpiece though. I’m kind of bummed the new album is only 9 songs with 1 being an Elton John cover but the other 8 songs are 39 mins of music so it’s not too short. Prob will get back in the studio with AIC sometime in the next year to work on a new album which I’m sure will have some dark stuff in their because all AIC albums do
@@puppetmaster8551 who’s to say he isn’t going another direction? Maybe he found the light and inspiration during these dark times. People evolve and change. When you go through so much in life and seen what he seen and he lost so many friends along the way. Plus covid on top of it. Anyways He is older and wiser. Can’t wait to see what this album has to offer. I hope its something different.
@@puppetmaster8551tbh i never cared for post layne aic. i like jerrys john wick soundtracks for the movies and all his solo stuff.
I am so ready for this record. Greg Puciato doing backing vocals? I’m fucking IN.
I love this song…Interestingly I was driving listening to Facelift all afternoon..it’s hard to believe it’s 31 years old….what a debut, the amazing vocals and harmonies, the pain, the moodiness, by far one of my favorite all time albums…[RIP Layne..]….. Jerry is one of the most iconic writers, guitarists, lyricists…who would have known? After listening to this song, it’s obvious that he still has the passion …this song is fresh, but yet still has the brooding landscape of AIC lurking in the background…I can’t wait to hear this album!
Puciato AND Gil playing with Jerry?? Holy crap what a sick line up!
fucking underrated, Jerry is a legend, i love all of his riffs, his voice, his lyrics..
Just how is Jerry underrated? He's always been rated as high as he should have been.
Jerry is not underrated, what are you talking about?
Yeah he was literally voted "Riff Lord" by Metal Hammer
He’s not really a household name and it’s surprising. I live in Switzerland and if I mention slash, or hammet here, everyone knows them. Guarantee no one here has ever heard of Jerry Cantrell unless they were big into Alice.
AMEN
Almost spat out my lunch at seeing this on my YT recommendations, more Jerry!!!!

If you like this you will love the album. It's very much a country banger straight from the Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson Era.
I def thought that too. Which is kind of cool bc he’s honoring the style of music his parents raised him on. Kind of a nice tribute.
Jerry is the last of the guitar God Mohicans! Seen it all, been through it all, and still truckin’ ! He survived so much! Good dude!
Jerry's work makes tuff times easier, a spiritual healing.

Absolutely my favorite Cantrell to this point, Jerrys music has grown so much, he just gets better as time goes on.
I too hated it when Layne died, he and I shared Birthdays, August 22... it really sucks people jumped off of AiC when Layne died, they have missed so much 3 amazing albums that could not have been possible without Jerry.
Jerrys solo material is mind blowing and people should really open their minds more and check it out!
Jerry thanks for all the music over the years!!!!
Grew up listening to Layne and Jerry, Mike and Sean. 30 years later and still listening. That means something when I'm still a fuckin fan to this day.
I love this song. Jerry, you should make a record only with this kind of dusty-gritty-desert-vibe songs, absolute kick-ass!
Took only 1 repeat to be convinced its a masterpiece
Same here. Hard to get a read on his stuff the first time you listen. But then it hits you on listen #2. Hell yes! 🤘🏼
@Michael agree Michael. Not aneasy and simple. But Jerry is a professional so I always try to understand his idea. Nevertheless I fell that rest of the album will be more classic Jerry Cantrell.

The chorus has a “Feel The Void” vibe and the breakdown sounds a bit like “Over Now”. I’m just excited for this album.

Mr Cantrell, so hot in this costume! Awesome songs!!
I love this CD!!! Can't get enough of it!!! Happy birthday to you ! Hope you have an amazing day and thank you so much for all of your great music!!!!!
My boy Greg Puciato did justice with Jerry on this! Can't wait to hear the rest of this record!
Is he the other singer?
@@malloryarroy9887 Yes.
@@malloryarroy9887 Yeah, he's originally from Dillinger Escape Plan, Killer Be Killed and The Black Queen.
@@MLCrow he sounds like Duvall
I don’t think that I’m alone (by the comments already), that Jerry’s solo work is very welcome. I do hope he tours this record, and plays all solo tracks. I saw the degradation tour, and I was a bit bummed he only played a couple solo tunes from both albums. I love his songs.
Always happy to see new work out by Jerry. I listen to his music to decompress and as I edit and work on my channel. He's amazingly talented.
See you Jerry in Hamburg! I'm really excited to be at your concert.
