    Even though this was a few years ago, I found that all the information given was top notch. My son and I are going to rebuild his 84 22RE out of his toyota SR5 pick up. Great job and thanks for sharing.

    I'm an engineer in a major aerospace company. Funny enough, we use helicoil on parts for our airplanes with blind fastener installation instead of tapping the pocket. Fun to see this stuff being used in more... common applications. Cheers mate, thanks for a great series!

    Thanks for taking time to give real world explanation of this process! Very helpful as my son is thinking of getting an older 22R yota truck... this makes me more confident that we could tackle a rebuild if needed since he is wanting to get one for less than $2000. Thanks again!

    There's a place on the cam to put a wrench, so you can torque that bolt at the front of cam. You can see the place to put the wrench at 8:18.

    That allen bolt pissed me off when I did it back in 2012. Luckily there are some great toyota forums and I found out what was up. I was waiting eagerly to see if it would get you, LOL. I also learned about helicoil from doing that rebuild.

      Smurf Jones I’ve heard that you have to put the time ing cover on before you put the head on or you will have an oil leak ( which I do now by changing the time ing chain cover without takeing the head off ) is there anyway I can stop the leak without taking the head off ?

    You bolted the head and oil pan... and then squeeze the timing cover in between? Or bolted the head first..then loosen the oil pan and and tighten the timing cover?

    • @pv2smurf

      Can remove and replace the timing cover with the head and pan on. If already apart, then do the timing cover, then pan OR head, then pan or head

      I do not have a video of a cylinder head tear down. The process is similar among most so you could try looking for a few videos and then figure out specifics to the 22re. That would be my plan of attack

    Wanted to know how you fixed the cam shaft bearing threads. I’m rebuilding mine and both threads in the middle are stripped out. Can I get away with a bigger bolt? It’s hard to helicoil with the grooves for the cam shaft bearing bolt.

    • @pv2smurf
      @pv2smurf  5 років тому +1

      You could helicoil it bc the bolts are only torqued to 23lbs or something. You could go with bigger bolts BUT you would want to take it to a machine shop so the holes are straight if you have to drill it

    • @jacobabeyta9685
      @jacobabeyta9685 5 років тому
