Great video man!.. i’m a painter and do small drywall repairs and my wife wanted me to expand into some other trades etc but i didn’t feel comfortable charging for work that either i haven’t done before or feel comfortable doing.. and regarding your first point..i totally agree 100%.. i work by myself and i don’t trust anyone else to sub contract to so i try to find jobs that i can do myself and not worry about anyone else and their issues.. they say if you want something done right you got to do it yourself! (i was also one point a personal trainer for 17 years so i can def relate to this video)
Question - are you marking up material 20+% and charging for your time to the big box store? I charge my worked out hourly rate for material pickup. You win on the smaller material jobs, but would win out on the larger ones doing it by %. I can see customers getting pee’d off on the percentage. If you’re doing both, holy rate plus market, more power to you. Wondering if that is more the industry standard.
No I don’t charge an additional rate to pick up materials over my approved estimate with the customer that includes already material acquisition and my material markup. Only for Menards do I charge extra
I love the approach, letting others learn from your mistakes.

It’s good to expand but only do it as necessary! Thanks for the comment!

Lmao
That freaked me out while I was driving, I had to turn it up real loud in the car to hear him and then that loud kid scream made me turn it off lol
