well. here in Denmark we say when you can hit a h7 tolerance with a red sausage you are a qualified CNC operator. meaning using far outdated tools on worn down machines used for centuries. kinda hits the spot. :P

The .012" needle for operating on your eye is for changing out the fluid in your eyeball if it gets contaminated like from rupturing a blood vessel that blinds you. The blood blocks the path from the lense to the retina. They use up to 3 needles to change the fluid ( vitreous). Now you know, but you really don't want to know!)

The Tornos multi-axis, multi-spindle swiss lathe ( at 3.56) is worldclass for fine medical components. Insanely accurate and repeatable under high volume production. They are most probably not showing you the more complex fine medical parts due to customer NDA , trade secret etc.

My dad proudly worked as a "polymécanicien" in the 60s in Switzerland (SCHAUBLIN/ Malleray) and to see this video brought me nice rememberings.
An example where devoted employees with devoted long-lasting sagas of directors-owners (06:13) that understand that an enterprise transcends beyond the short-term quarterly profit.
Thank you very much for posting.

Machining doesn’t have to be junky but a well done operation that serves the customer and the employee. The ability to be able to have a nice view outside versus a dungy dirty space is the difference between high turnover and happy employees

Very futuristic with more than 2x machines than employees, especially considering the work will involve very little metal removal but a lot of processes. They must have their methods perfect because that complexity is normally what requires a man constantly on a machine

A normal screw machine machinist in Swi mus handle a min of 6 cam machine, knowing that the average salary for this type of job is around 5 to 6K USD/month min, it's no way you can afford to have a ratio of 1/1 (One men per machine) Yes you must have perfect methodology to let your machine run smoothly overnight.

I am not American. We use many Haas mills in our factory and they have done us immense good. While they may not compare with many German or Japanese machines, they are good value for money. We are surprised how tight tolerances we have achieved with them. Important to know that good programming and machining skills are also important besides high quality machines.

I work very closely with Laubscher in Switzerland. I am also very closely tied to the production of miniature parts via micro DLS processes. Micro printing has great benefits and very severe limitation. When it comes to volume production micro printing has a LONG way to go and frankly may not achieve what you are looking for in our lifetimes, if ever. There are definite technological limitation to the speed of production. Additionally there are major design limitations with printing which people never consider until they run into them head first.
Both processes have significant benefits but the concept of the science fiction "replicator" is still a monumental pipe dream.

If I wanted to get my hand in starting a machine shop. Where would I start ? Which machine could I start with to build from. To be my own boss. I have experience with edm graphite machines but not cnc. I’m a quick study though. One of those people that see things once and can replicate it. I won’t get to much into the financials but just any input would help a lot.

Mr. Titan what a wonderful subject for a video. I have been watching your videos for some time now and you make a old timer like me at age 60very hopeful for American manufacturing and all the great friends I have made in this trade over the years. If ever you come to Austin Texas I would be so happy and honored to shake your hand and ask I can tale a picture with you. I would like your autograph also if not on our picture if that happens or on one we could please honor me by getting on email to provide my address should you be so kind.
