Tip: normally the screen goes dim after about 8 seconds but if you press the main button on the receiver twice, the display remains at full brightness until you press it again. I discovered this just by playing around with it. This could be useful for visual monitoring outdoors though it would surely reduce battery life. I couldn’t find this feature listed on their website so I thought I’d put it out there.
I wonder how Rode will respond to the advanced features of DJI mic.
Preordered a set myself too - it's a great kit! Simple to use, and just 'works'. I found that the built in mic sounds quite 'bright', so I just do a slight eq adjustment pulling up the lows and pushing down the ranges slightly between 2khz and 6khz, which makes it sound very smooth AND pulls down the noise floor further, so it really packs a punch.
How do you do that?
You can't do that in camera right? But in post
Does the receiver has built in mic? If I am doing interview, how do I record my own voice? I am new to video shooting. Thanks!
@@Terry2020 then you need two kits, and a mixer. A Mixer top mount on camera is aprox 50-80 dollars
Hello! would this be a better option against the traditional bulky body pack microphones?
That Rode kit with the Diety mic sounds so buttery smooth. I want it!
As always, very complete review. Thank you.
Thanks Kevin!
So finally a clear video review with an implicit “how it works “ tutorial for noobs like me who have never used a wireless mic kit before. Not rocket science but for people who are looking to buy this, it’s good to know the basic setup before buying. Thank you Caleb !
I had the same results when testing the Rode's on-board mic versus a lav mic. I was hoping to ditch the lav mic entirely, but the on-board mic sounds a bit too thin for my taste. Even so, recording a lav mic directly to the camera will be awesome.
Does the receiver has built in mic? If I am doing interview, how do I record my own voice? I am new to video shooting. Thanks!
AHHHH! Such a good audio comparison! Thanks for this dude!
Man it was fire
Damn, this is really good. Is there a dedicated standalone lav you recommend using with it? I have the Sennheiser AVX kit - I feel it can be a little "crunchy" or something, but have had trouble picking out individual mics.
Man, I don't know what you are doing but whenever I'm looking for something on UA-cam (for grading, light, sound...) it's always you! Well done and keep it up.
5:55 "I was really pulling my hair out" - looking at Calebs head I think he must have really tried hard.
It seems DJI is out to get Rode now, their wireless mic is looking very impressive!
But I still prefer to use rode wireless go, sound is much better than DJI
Hey Caleb, good to get your thoughts on the WIRELESS GO!
Thanks Curtis! Can't wait to hear yours!
Love your channel
Awe such good community
Can’t wait for your two cents Curtis 👍🏼
Hi Curtis, I was just wondering if you have ever tested any of the Meike range of cine lens for the micro 4/3 system? They appear to be something like the Veydra lens but priced much lower. Cheers Ed.

I do ENG and the GO is a game changer. The audio is fantastic especially in noisy environments. I even got a compliment from the people at CNN on my last video that they bought on Sunday. You Go Rode!
Bought it and am currently using it on set. Default mic in it works well, but plugging in an mke2 makes it even better. Wish it had better monitoring but for 200 you can't complain.
Nice! Can't believe what all is packed into the kit.
Hey, also looking into using these with the mke2. Are you using the default sennheiser locking 3.5mm end on the mke2? Or did you solder a normal 3.5 jack to it?
Jinsuun I own the wireless go and a Sennheiser me2 lav. The locking plugs on the senny mics prevent them from making a good connection. You can get around the problem by using a short right-angle 3.5mm extension. Hope it helps.
Hey would you know if one receiver can be used for two transmitters or do you need a receiver for each mic
@@protoman247 Yeah, I couldn't get it to screw in which did make me a bit nervous, but it worked none the less. Good thought on the right angle extension.
Dead cat feet... or should that be dead cat paws?
I just got a set of these and am eager to test them out. I bought the Sennheiser AVX-MKE2 last year because of the lightweight receiver, but it doesn't seem as lightweight now!
Ha! Paws indeed.
Does the receiver has built in mic? If I am doing interview, how do I record my own voice? I am new to video shooting. Thanks!
sennheiser sounds better for my ears, but the rode has interesting advantages.
I would keep the sennheiser.
Nice review!
Hi, Really liked your honest review. Can we connect two mic transmitter? If so, how? if not, what is the best affordable alternative?
I was wondering the same thing
Still wondering this! I’d like two mics if possible
This should be the Vlogger's go to audio kit; especially for the price. Once again great content CP!!!
I used this on a 12 hour shoot for a short film, and I gotta say, the convenience overshadowed other LAV’s. The actors was a bit shocked at how easy it was to conceal without having to deal with wardrobe situations.
And the mic is really really good for the price. Very good SNR when paired with a good preamp.
Of course this isnt a professional LAV like a A10 or letrosonics, but the point of this wireless go was to make a statement in innovation.
More LAV’s in general needs to take advantage of newer tech like USB c power, instead of spending hundreds of dollars on AA or NP1 batteries *shots fired*, or little changes like 2.4 frequencies for traveling, built in mics for redundancy or cold shoe/clip mounts. These are the little things that rode amplified on, and thats what slowly making the wireless go my new daily driver for certain shoots.
what lav mic do you use with the rode? I'm thinking of pairing it up with the sennheiser me-2 ii, don't like the rode smart lav
rode wireless go + mic from sennheiser is much better
Brilliant review. I’ve already got this kit and I’m delighted that you have it a good review.
These mic’s are so good
Your move, Deity.
Would love to see Deity come up with something similar!

Shots Fired, Haha. Hope you're well, brother.

Watching a random video on UA-cam when out of the blue: Patrick Tomato!
Did Deity release something similar? 👀
Hey Caleb! If you had 2 of these and the Hosa splitter cable you talked about in a previous video - would you be able to have 2 wireless mics?
You get a like in the first five second because (a) great audio and (b) great presenter.
SO GLAD to see how well this system works with the Deity D3 (my main shotgun mic). This could really change how I work. Thanks for the great video!
This looks like a great solution. How does it interact with smart phones L
Ayee ChefPK!!! Love your reactions XD!!!
@@shadowdragondailyvlogs8310 haha thank you!
It just connects via 3mm TRS jack, if your phone has one.
@@hubbygami2590 yep!! I bought one two days after this review and it's one of the BEST purchases I've made for my channel. I record all of my videos with my Note 8 and having wireless sound is epic.
Can I pair multiple Transmitters to a single Receiver if I am recording the audio of a Panel Discussion?
So I must say... I realized how much I love your XLR shotgun mic.
I am very happy with mine. I paired this up with my dji osmo and reviewed it as well. It worked extremely well
Dude this is an awesome wireless audio solution. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for this review, Caleb. I've been in the market for a wireless setup for a while now and was leaning towards the Sennheiser system. I ended up watching this video quite a few times and when I bity the bullet I went for the Wireless Go/ Sennheiser M2 combo.
I prefer the frequency response of the Sennheiser (the Rode sounds a little thin), but Rode is definitely the best bang for the buck.
Agreed. The Sennheiser sounds much more full and rich (plus had less distortion) compared to the Rode.
Cool - thx for doing this review. I've been holding off on a Wireless mic, but at $200, it's pretty hard to pass up. I used your affiliate link - looking forward to having better audio quality on my vids.
Just bought one myself (to have 2 including the one Rode sent) loving using the GO so far.
You wouldn't know where to get JUST a transmitter, would you? Because I can only see the kit of BOTH offered everywhere. 🤨 But I would want at least two if not three transmitters for ONE receiver.
Loved your comparisons on this too Max!
POST-PROfessionals - Robin S. Kurz I don’t think they work this way, just in pairs and you can use up to 8 pairs in one location.
@@MaksimYuryev Thanks man. Yeah, someone else just pointed that out, too. I misunderstood. I thought it was up to eight ON ONE. Oh well. Still nice!
Its so good!
I have a small doubt ,it s use for ?Sony6000 camera output only HDMI out put....
Thanks for the excellent review. My Wireless Go units arrived last week and I had them in the field today.
What a joy to work with them simple and dependable with the quality you reported. I found that my JK44 Lav suffered with RF interference issue but the JK Cardioid did not. A very cheap Lav did not suffer any RF issues.
The built in mic was decent on the fly. Getting the output of the xmitter to an iPhone with lighting requires and extra dongle to get all the TRS and TRRS match ups but sounded good. Rode would make a few more bucks selling the right connector for iPhone users. Wireless Go is a winner. UPDATE Rode makes a $14 TRS to TRRS coiled cable the SC7. There are knock offs for half that price on Amazon.
Rode SC3 and SC4 adapter cables are also lifesavers to have in the kit for various TRRS to TRS needs with mics if you are using mobile devices.
Hey Caleb, thanks for the review. I have the RodeLink Filmmaker system and the transmitter and receiver work great but my lav is starting to have issues with scratching. I think the cord has worn out over time. Any suggestions on a decent lav only to plug back into my current rode transmitter or should I just get the rode replacement?
I had the same issue on my lav on my Filmmaker system as well. I tried it on the Wireless Pro and I also had the scratching. Turned out the cord was bad on the lav mic. I contacted Rode and they replaced it at no cost under warranty.
I got mine for christmas and I just assumed the mic it came with was really good
and the feature to add mics was a bonus..BAHHHT you make it sound like the mic it came with is not the intended use
but just a convenience...I do not believe that was what they were going for, the rhode mics with foam cost the same and they are
as is/ I was disappointed that it sounds like clipping but yet it is not clipping lol so true, but it's the best type of mic I own for filming.
Funny story I had no idea it came with mufflers until Watching this video! Turns out mine was missing, Gotta return now, thank you for that now I KNOW you helped someone sir! haha I never would have known as I thought it was an add on from the box descrip, I told the person who bought it for me for christmas that it was missing a part and she said well at best buy they were all on the floor.... MAKES SENSE! Someone stole just that part!
EDIT _THE MIC SOUNDS VERY VERY PROFESSIONAL ONCE I SWITCHED IT A MORE EXPENSIVE Camera I Own_
I just received my Wireless Go today and the internal microphone is not working. Only works when I use a lav mic, this is so frustrating! Others are having same issue just a head up for everyone thinking of purchasing one!
5:58 "...I was really pulling my hair trying to get that thing to work." He he! Great review!
Just noticed your cuts are super long, and that's because you're concise and don't have a bunch of crap to chop out. Great vid dude, I'm filming some promos for a non-profit I'm volunteering for and in researching mics I happened on a video that teaches some great skills for speaking on camera!
Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room. 😂😂😂😂 when I saw the notification I was like "what 🤨🤨" lol
Ha! Thanks for watching Billy!
Looking for a link to said video please. Thanks!
AMAZINGLY clear and helpful as ALWAYS!!! Thanks a lot for every single piece of advice in your channel
If They had the ability to run 2 mics to one receiver we'd definitely buy this!
Are there ones on the market that allow that? If so, what price range do they fall in?
@@blipboyy sarmonic blank 500. The price i think about 200 us
Rode Wireless GO cannot do it, Saramonic Blink 500 and Picogear PicoMic Dual System can do it
G'day Caleb, love your work and honesty. Just saw Rode Australia sent through a newsletter with your feedback ( "It's absolutely ridiculous how small these are."
DSLR VIDEO SHOOTER ) and a link to this video which i have watched already. So they obviously are listening and appreciate your feedback too. Keep up the great work bro!
I wish they had announced this before the new Senheiser I just bought. It’s ok but you cannot even adjust the crazy high output levels. The Rode looks way better.
That Sennheiser setup is very impressive for a wireless mic
I like the sennheiser so far. Hopefully these shape up.
Yeah its a close call. If only have had 1 more button!
Hi Caleb, great channel. I just subscribed. Interesting thoughts on the Rode. I was thinking along the same lines myself.
Nice review Caleb, it seems the Rode Go has a certain tinny-ness and thin sound - a slight compression that is noticeable when compared to the Sennheiser XSW + AVX systems... Also non-replaceable batteries + the dropping/cut outs (shielding?) in busy streets has made it a bit too compromised for time critical productions. Comparing the XSW vs Rode Go in a noisy outside environment was what gave the XSW the lead. Still the Rode is a great low budget option for fast simple setups, just don't expect them to be too robust :)
Dang I need this thing now. Thanks for filling us in on this cool product and not being so dumb as to jump on an "I hate Rode" train and never come off. Your willingness to try new things makes your channel awesome Caleb!
Never jumped on the hate train! Just the "not my favorite right now" train ;-) Thanks man!
Actually, this new system may just make me sell my current Rode wireless system on eBay! I Don't need heavy gear as I am a Run-and-gun one-man-operation!
Great video with comparisons. Thankyou. May I ask: In my case, I am creating videos where I am playing (bass guitar) and talking-sometime simultaneously- I don't want a condenser mic and boom stand etc. in the picture. Would the Rode Go be the way to ...go? Or a wearable LAv -I need it to eventually go into a USB interface ( w/XLR input typically)
Hey Caleb - forget the review -- I couldn’t take my eyes off of the Mac SE? In the background
I’m curious how this mic would work outside and how far away you can safely go before it starts to lose its signal. I’m thinking you’d have to use a Lavalier with a windscreen. I envision using a wireless microphone at a distance walking toward the camera so movement would also be part of my test. I’ve always wanted a pair of these wireless mics.
How is the sound quality when moving around?
i.e. demonstrating exercise movements, ect.
Thanks in advance!
Appreciate the review! I wasn’t sure if I should pull the trigger on these but now I definitely will!
Great video! It's nice to have found somebody that does pretty cut-and-dry reviews without a lot of BS.
Have you done a video on Dual microphones?
My fiance joins me occasionally doing some reviews, and I also occasionally do some interviews, and the road shotgun mic that I'm currently using just is not cutting it for either scenario.
We move around a lot so I am looking for a good dual Wireless setup. Any thoughts?
I am the first videographer in our area who owned this. They ask me for a review and now many of us owned a wireless go. I used this almost everyday in my videos. I also used this with g4 and its like Im using thesame mics.
I wish they'd put internal audio recording on the receiver as an option
Hi Caleb. Great video! I don't think people realize how much work and effort goes into a video like this - so thanks. Anyways, I have used the Azden smx-30, which is a battery powered shotgun mic, plugged into the Wireless Go. I got crazy RF interference noises when the transmitter was anywhere near the mic. Using a cable extension with several loops helps a lot...but your Deity setup at 8:00 appears to have much less RF issues in a very clean/compact setup. So I would say that the RF issues may have more to do with the internal electronics of the mic being used.
Caleb, I wanted to follow up with you on this great video from 2019. Are you still happy with the Rode Wireless Transmitter? Would you still recommend it today? I am looking to pick up two of them for recording two subjects in conversation in chairs facing each other. I wanted to mix them wirelessly to avoid boom mics and give them more freedom. But, is the Rode Wireless Transmitter a good option? Thank you for making such useful content.
up..
Fantastic review. Thanks! Question: Does the Røde reciever turn on automatically when you Power the camera (like the pro plus), or do you have to turn in on manually?
I am very happy to see a beloved M50 in the video. Still waiting for the review...😂
M50 😍😍😍
Really appreciate your attention to detail here Caleb. Especially mentioning how the "go" might prefer to pair with mics that have batteries vs needing to power them directly. I also was really happy you used that sennheiser LAV on both systems in your comparison. The "go" really seems like a shift in the industry. Keep up the great work! Can't wait wait to see what you have for us next.
Thanks you Cameron! Means a lot man!
But does it have live monitoring through ear buds?
no
I just purchased the Rode today and connected it to my video camcorder to record live bands. The signal and sound are awesome. I can actually go into another room away from the transmitter and I never lose signal. WOW.
"I was pulling my hair out" made me chuckle :))
Great review though. Thanks ;)
I had the Rode Go for about 3 weeks. I purchased the Pico Mic and WOW,..what a difference! I returned the Rode Go and kept the Pico Mics. Picos had way better range and signal strength, not to mention full mic gain control on the transmitter as well as MANY more receiver level options. The Rode Go's have a nice mic jack but that winds up being ruined because they only give you ONE factory fixed gain setting. What good is having a mic jack if you can't control it's gain amount to avoid clipping? The Pico Mic is pretty awesome....and it doesn't flop around your clothes when you clip it on!
saw this (great) review as my Rode GO is on the way from Amazon--what lavalier microphone would you recommend to use with the Rode GO? Thanks.
Hi, I have a Question, does the rode wireless go Work for OnePlus 7 Pro phone??
Especially during UA-cam Live Stream??
Can you please check & Update??
Can you trust it not to drop-out signal when out of LOS?
From testing I saw on yt it happens very easily.. :(
I respect the fact that you didn't just pull the units out of the box, switch them on, recorded a sample and gave a (hic) 'review'. You made the effort to mix-n-match with numerous combos of your existing gear (offering comparisons & critique) which allowed me to figure out, not only what the differences sound like but - hey presto - I also learnt that the transmitter unit has a 3.5 input jack for another mic (no other review I have watched thus far (4 to date), has mentioned that) - I thought the only option was to use the inbuilt mic.
Highlighting the dB level control and how to use it was also useful.
Brilliant job mate. Thanks. You have a new subscriber!!
Sennheiser's kit sounds much better for my russian ears)) Rode slightly excited on 5 kHz and low frequency is poor on its system.
Igor Babaylov my Russian ears agree.
@@maksn5751 Glad we arent the only ones picking up on the sennheisers more full , slightly richer sound! Rode just has a thinness to it - like a compression, missing those low tones!
@@kane01337 I think that describes it perfectly. The Sennheiser just sounds more full. Rode can certainly be described as thin. Really appreciate that he spent his own money on this review and this is not a paid video or product provided for it.
Thanks for sharing your experience!! Can anyone help me getting them in Germany? We will not get them before mid May or so. Any thoughts are highly appreciated.
11:15 Caleb... we LOVE that... “phffffft” ...sound! 🤪
Thanks for the review! But can you do a distance transmission test with your receiver being blocked with you body comparing to the Rode and Sennheiser?
I've seen another video review of that when he turned around and lost line of site there was no transmission
Sennheiser has a fuller sound to it. Glad I bought one over the rode wireless go!
Great video Caleb, just to clarify. The receiver that gets attached to you, has a built-in microphone so you don't need a lavalier mic? I film golf instruction videos so I want to know if the receiver clip is strong and will stay on tight when I'm swinging a golf club and moving around a bit? Want to be sure it won't fall off. Cheers
Can wireless go pairs with multiple transmitter? Like 1 Receiver to 3 transmitters. Possible?
Joe Lee No
Hi, love your videos. After fighting plugin Lav mics, for way too long I just bought the Rode Wireless Go. Can't wait to try it. Thanks again for the great information.
What lav mic would you recommend to go along with this, assuming we don't have the Sennheiser XSW-D Wireless System?
That is the problem I think... The good Sennheiser lav mic cost $130. Rode Wireless Go may be $200 but it sounds awful without a mic. Apparently Rode came out with a Lav mic for this it cost $80 I think. If you need something cheaper, just research best lav mics and compare prices.
im going with Sennheiser MKE essential ... $50 off right now
@@YasinHasan Hey there. Where is the Sennheiser on sale at if you don't mind me asking? That's the mic I want too.
@@joetaylor3563 it was on sale in bhphotovideo.com, not on sale anymore
I wish they could more with 2x TX to one RX. I suppose you could get 2 kits and a splitter cable to feed into your camera
Was thinking the exact same! It happens so often that you need two people in front of the camera so you cant just go with 1 ...
Field test would have been real test. In studio, even camera mic also works
Wireless Go + D3 Pro was probably the cleaneast/most portable interview setup I've seen so far
Agreed! It is so small and youve got the whole setup in a small pouch set up in no time
Can I connect a pair of headphones to the receiver so that I can listen covertly from another room ?
Caleb showed how to do that in a recent video
I think these are just really great all round wireless systems. They’re great if you’re doing interviews and want to quickly mic up an interviewee but also great for connecting to a shotgun mic while moving around a shoot
5:57 looks like you actually literally pulled all your hair out trying to get it to work.
I just picked up a set of these based on your review and they are awesome. Well thought out and designed. Thanks for the always great content in your reviews.
The rode wireless go is sold out everywhere 😭😭
hi! i read the following review- can you agree to that? is is not working once the speaking person moves ( wanna use it for yoga videos) : "You can record sound only when the transmitter is aimed at the camera. If something obscures the direct view - you lose the sound. If you put the transmitter behind your back and pass the lapel microphone, you lose sound. If the interviewee turns, you lose the sound. All that blocks the transmitter from the receiver - leads to loss of sound."
At least for me the seinheiser sounds better. Also for the long run the seinheiser kit seems to be more “upgradable” I’m considering buying one to upgrade my videos. Thanks for the review
You totally just made me buy there 😍 have been waiting for something this small and easy but still amazing
Thank you for the review.. are you going to do an outside test? 😊
Thanks for doing this comparison. I like all the combinations you tried. 👍
Great video - thanks Caleb! Is there any way to monitor audio with this setup? Also did you happen to test how audio compared directly connecting a lav to your camera, versus using the Rode Go?
dude your videos look so nice on my eyes. I have all the lights off and screen brightness up, but the whites don't blind me. thanks for doing your magic, and for the information
Hey Caleb, just received mine! I made a little unboxing yesterday and i have to say im super happy with the quality of the product and the ease of use! I dont know yet how theyll keep up in a crowded area without an additional lavalier but im looking forward to it!
I don't think your interference had anything to do with the shotgun microphone -- I think it had everything to do with the CABLE you used to connect the two. Those cables are great for attracting stray signals/interference. Use the same cable on both shotgun/wiress setups (the shorter cable) and I'm guessing you'll have better results.
