Thanks for posting this one it brings back some great memories. We beat Oregon and Louisville Both in the last seconds of each game. Then this close one against UNLV. What a great run they had. I can still fondly remember rushing from the dorms in a "wild herd" to the riot in the village. WAtching the "village idiot" swing from the street light, lol.
Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for video of that very dunk. I remember that game. I think Ball State gave UNLV their only real challenge that year. Awesome!
If they had a tournament for the greatest teams to lose in the NCAA's to a championship team, the 1990 BSU team would be the favorite. Had they made a commitment to Rick Majerus and the program back then, the Cards would have a program like Butler has now.
Uh, no. Think about what you just wrote. Would Ball State have beaten 1985 Georgetown? Or 1984 Houston? Or 1983 Houston? Or any number of great teams that lost in the NCAA's?
His dunk over LaBradford Smith of Louisville in the second round that year was even better. I got to see them both in person, working for the Ball State Daily News. Hard to believe how close BSU came to beating the Rebels.
I remember watching this game with my good friend Finney. Two old Bearcats and Ball State grads went wild on that play! To this day I quote the announcer's comments following the dunk.
Thanks for the post, ive been looking for footage of that game for years!! I was a student then and remember the bon fires with dorm furniture and toilet paper streaming from Lafollette
That was my freshman year...that run was great...been lookin for footage for years, I couldnt tape it, we watched it in the lounge..thanx for posting that
I remember being in H.S. sitting in the stands when his school came to play my school and he dunked over my school's entire team in 1988. I followed his career every since.
@@kirkfitzgerald1439 I was in junior high school... Remember watching that game on tv at my buddies house. Indiana high school basketball at it's finest 😎👍
I was very fortunate to be at that game, that was a great college basketball doubleheader first game was Loyola Marymount vs. Alabama and then the game shown above. Ball State played Unlv it's toughest game of the tournament.
Coach? Where is he coaching? My neighbor, who is in HS, said he was a teacher at Lawrence North. He was always friendly and just loved to put on a show.
You're missing something. Did you follow the season? I stayed up late to watch every UNLV game and they won by 30-40 most nights. I might be off with the margin of victory, but nobody ever did a put back dunk on them all season long and that was the closest game UNLV had all season long. 4 minutes to go, that dunk get the cardinals hope and woke up Tark. That dunk was massive at that time. That little bit of momentum is all that is necessary during March Madness! And nothing is wrong with playing overseas. My cousin put Bill Self on the map and he played 13 years in Ukraine and Poland. Many scrubs make it to the NBA while the hoopers just hoop for a living.
Watched this live on TV, what a great game!!!
Have you seen what Chandler Thompson looks like NOW? I know he's likely 54 by now but he got so fat there is NO way he has a 42 in. vertical leap.
He helped lead Muncie Central High School to their 8th state title & I was a sophomore there at the time & Ball State University is located here.

LOL. I recall the stories. It was different than the riots of today.
Was there!
Hands down the greatest dunk of all time, pro or college.

Finally found it, After years and years !
Not true. DUKE gave them the bigger challenge!! #Facts! #CaptainObvious!😁

Not remotely close. Where should we start?
Uh, no.

@Brad Hoyt Ball State-Loyola Marymount would've been a sight to see had that come to fruition.......
That was the ultimate put back dunk! Not only did they get dunked on, they had to kiss his ass too!
Wow
As youngsta’s we watched “Showtime” jump over cars and Dunk in Heekin and McCulloch Park. Crib💪🏾 Ask Shawn Kemp about him? #DodgeCity
Heck yeah.
And then Ball State almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tourney history.
