I bought this yesterday for $80 and really enjoyed it. I didnt find it overly sweet or off putting.
I’ve had a bottle of Armida for a few months now and it changes almost every time I crack it open. Tons of fruit, tons of butterscotch, rum funkiness... it’s a crazy one. I love it but to each their own.
Well my research led me to this video. Thanks for saving me $100. Found this at a small store and almost bought it. So relieved I didn’t. I hope it improved from the neck pour.

You somehow have me regretting my purchase before even tasting it, damn your dulcet tones and exquisite notes. How can I possibly enjoy this if the greatest whiskey taster on the freaking planet is displeased by its mere existence?
I'm not sure Matt is the biggest fan of sweet whiskeys. And he hates scotch lol So maybe the best bourbon palate, but maybe not the best whiskey palate? lol Armida is a fun drink for sure. Changes a lot, the model of complexity

Barrell makes some damn good stuff. I always see this on the shelf and consider buying it, but then end up getting a different Barrell bottle because I have no idea what the hell Armida is. Dovetail has been one of my favorites

Armida is by far the strangest barrel(s) finished bourbon I've tried - a real outlier - probably the most polarizing flavor profile ever. Have had 3-4 pours and I still couldn't get used to the overbearing notes from the pear brandy and Amaro casks. Haven't touched the bottle for months. Plan on trying it again in the next month or so.
I learned my lesson with barrel craft, to make sure it does not have hidden Tennessee whiskey in the blend because Dickey always takes over. Lol
I drink bourbon when I’m too lazy to make a proper cocktail. I’m frequently too lazy. This Armida might be for me.
Haha - the heater. Yup. Pre-Recording Checklist: unplug the frig under the bar (cuz it's loud), turn space heaters on long enough to warm the basement to a point where Kira won't complain, and give Kira just enough of a pre-shoot pour to make her funny, which is like only 1 ounce less than the amount of pre-gaming that leads to Kira just yelling at the camera.
If it's Sicilian amaro, it is likely Averna; a key component in the Black Manhattan. However, Averna is delicious on its own. Cheers! 🥃
There are over 60 brands of Amaro commercially distilled and many others not commercially manufactured, just in Sicily alone, don’t always assume Averna just because it’s most available in North America.
How the finishing plays on this versus Dovetail is worlds apart.
I totally agree it's got so much finishing it is not recognisable as a bourbon. I have tasted it twice and at this point i am still not sure how i actually feel about it .it's definitely different but so far from typical bourbon i don't think i would ever buy it again.

I bought a bottle of this a few months ago. Didn't sip like a bourbon but enjoyed it till I put dent on the bottle and the flavors changed significantly. Bought for 79 dollars in the socal area I wouldn't buy again.
I reviewed this a few months ago and had a similar reaction. Thought it would be good summer drink over ice. Not bad for me just super unique. Cheers!

I loved this bottle!! It was a tropical fruit bomb. Just don’t expect it to be bourbon. It’s very good. Loved dovetail and batch 27th as well from barell.

Stoked someone finally decided to review this. I love the stuff. Super interesting, lot of changing notes as you sip it. It is a good "out of the ordinary" pour to get out of the comfort zone.

Man, leave it to Dickel to even overpower this with that awful vitamin note. I bought a bottle of Resilient 14 and didn’t see the “Distilled in Tennessee” until after I’d opened it. Total waste of $100... Great review Matt, I feel your pain!!!

I picked up Dovetail last night. I was looking at this one also. I wonder if anyone has had both and if there is much difference, because Matt's review of Armida is what I was experiencing drinking Dovetail. I absolutely love Dovetail but will admit I could not drink it all night. It's kinda like a rich creme brulee...in the fact that you can love it but you will not consume a ton of it in one sitting. Whereas WT101 is like chocolate chip cookies and I could consume a crap load of them. Somehow this comment has derailed and now I'm on my way to the grocery store to buy some cookie dough.

This one seems to be really divisive and I was hoping you'd like it to encourage others to try it. I love it, very unique. The flavor changes over time as well, keep trying it, you may find it you really like it after all.

(Shameless Barrell groupie) I agree this really isn't bourbon. I considered it highly finished whiskey. And totally agree its not a daily drinker, but Dovetail and Armida scratch an itch that I haven't found other whiskeys/bourbons can. I'm a bourbon purist at heart (bunkered C920) but something about their finished stuff that I cant get enough of when Im in the mood (mostly warmer weather). Cheers!

I love Dovetail and bought Armida because of that reason alone. Armida is okay but I won't be buying a second bottle unless the flavor profile changes dramatically over time and, I still need to experiment with adding water/ice. Dovetail however I am on my third bottle :)

I don’t know how to say this, but Armida is weirdly good. At first it tasted bitter and off-putting. Now it is fantastic. Like I grab it first. I love Dovetail, so go figure. It’s Sicilian so maybe I’m coerced. But it’s very different and good after it opens up a bit. I like bourbon but this shitsky is seriously “altered” and really good.

In Total Wine...not a bottle of Barrell under $80. Too much $ for sourced whiskey in my opinion. 115 proof Hawaiian Punch.

No. No no no no no. That is not bourbon. That's a fancy version of Jim Beam and coke in a can. Only they used pear barrels and what ever else you read. These kinds of things always remind me of that scene in Ted where he gets a "beer" from the fridge called Michelob Ultra tuscan grapefruit beer and says their aren't even trying anymore.
