Definitely one of The Verge's best and most informative reviews yet. Great work guys!
Haha totally agree with you there. Your videos are impressive too
+Canoopsy I agree
+Canoopsy True that
Dieter knows what's up. Most of his reviews are full of information. He's one of my favorite writers for the verge.
+Austin Smith verge is usually crap. but dieter is basically the only one that still makes quality content for them.
I've been dissapointed all year by Android OEMs, all of their flagships have some ridiculous or annoying flaw of some kind. The 6P is the only one that truly seems to hold everything together, it's almost perfect. The Nexus fan in me will say that this is the best Android phone ever made to date.
+Sand I couldn't agree more. I have been scratching my head all year trying to decided which device to upgrade to but they nearly all have a flaw which puts me off completely. Call me picky but I don't think this has been a strong year for smartphones.
+Ryan Diver Absolutely, although I think it hasn't been an innovative year, all of the phones are generally really good, which makes their flaws more obvious. Smartphones have matured to the point where It's less about what the phone has and more about what it *doesn't* have. The 6P is the first one that I'm really excited to own!
THIS phone has a flaw...It's ugly ass camera hump. You're just blinded by that because you're a Nexus fanboy. EVERY phone has a flaw and this phone definitely is NOT excluded.
D33M0N3Y Riddle me this, the reviewer in this video is notorious for criticizing Android phones, but he said the bump didn't affect the phones aesthetics at all, and seemed to actually like it. Am I blinded because I am a fan of Nexus, or are you blinded because you're either an iPhone fan, or you're experiencing buyers remorse because you bought an inferior Android phone this year?
Abu Bruh The Note 5 has Touchwiz, the Nexus 6P doesn't. Nexus 6P wins automatically. The Nexus will get faster Android updates, longer battery life, and better performance as a result.
And don't tell me to "just use a launcher", it's 2015, we shouldn't need to disguise our phone's ugly and bloated software with 3rd party launchers.
DXOMark says the camera is better than iPhone and some other mentioned phones - but yeah overall it's really good and this is what will make me switch from my 2013 Nexus 5.
Thats a horrid site lol. it says the Xperia is better than the new Galaxy phones...
+Jeremiah Bromell Thats because the camera IS better. I like how you dismiss it purely based on the brand names
+Jeremiah Bromell you aware that all flagship devices use sony sensors including right, including apple and samsung? (with some sansung devices having both sony and isocell variants, like the note 4 and galaxy s5)
+Jeremiah Bromell They are...
+Oliver Stahl. excuse me sorry for my ignorance but how's eu charge that much ? custom? n then how much is the iphone there ??€900??
3:24 "...or even the iPhone 6s": really dude? iPhone 6s has worse camera than the Note 5/S6 or G4, your colleague showed that in one of The Verge's camera smackdown videos, and yet you throned iPhone 6s the best camera phone?
They probably said it to reach out to more of the Apple market since they would automatically assume it's worse than the IPhone 6S unless stated otherwise.
Right? Lol. He made the comment that android phones have been plagued by terrible cameras. I don't know what this guy is one but all the most recent android phone camera's trump the iPhone
+Minh Pham wtf are you smoking? lel
Jordan Thompson I take that you disagree with me?
+Tommy Marino Then he should say "and like all these other android devices, the 6P's camera is better than the iPhone 6S's camera as well". Instead he says "EVEN the iPhone 6S as if iPhone 6S is the king and the 6P is just barely reaching that level or something.
Just ordered the graphite one :)
how? they have been sold out for a while
Ziich I guess I got lucky, when I refreshed the page it was available then I quickly ordered it. This was around 7:26 am Eastern.
+Ziich 64 and 128g out of stock 32 gb still there
+niikhilpintens I ordered the 32gb and it was sold out prior to refreshing the page. as of right now the 32, 64, and 128gb graphite are out of stock. The only one in stock is the 32gb aluminium.
+Danny F yea. right now (8.45am eastern) the only thing that is available is the aluminium 32gb. personally 64 is the minimum I could get away with.
what happened to these guys at last a great review!
Whoever filmed this killed it
ayy techsmartt
You the man bruh
The bias is just disgusting. "I think it stands up to it [iPhone 6S Plus]. I mean this is ridiculous. This phone has double the specs and is half the price, it also uses a pure OS that is tailored to the hardware just like iOS is for an iPhone, so please do enlighten me about how exactly this "stands up to it"? It wipes the floor with the iPhone 6S Plus. Lose the bias, it's pathetic.
+Tecnologia Brasil I agree that the nexus 6p is way better (ordered one 3 weeks ago) but it isnt "half the price"
iphone 6s plus 64 gb: $850
Nexus 6p 64 gb: $550
Fairly close though..
Anyways, i thought this review was biased but not as biased as most of Iverges reviews
The 6P doesn't have double the specs.
Fire Quadruple the cores, 50% more ram, about 50% more pixels.
not double really, but still alot better
Yes it is almost double the price. In the UK a 32GB Nexus 6P Graphite costs £449. A 64GB iPhone 6S Plus Space Grey is £699. As Apple doesn't sell the 32GB model you would have to pick the 64GB to make a fair comparison. Not double but a significant amount for a phone that has half the specs in almost every area. Ridiculous and biased review indeed.
Tecnologia Brasil you have to compare the 64 gb models as you said, and its a 300 dollar difference.
Yes thats alot but not double(I was just correcting your original comment)
And you do realize that theverge gave this phone a 8.8 right? The best they have ever given is 9! They even said its the best android phone!
Also keep in mind that it loses to the iphone 6s, at least in benchmarks.
Dx0mark ranks this camera above the iPhone but of course in the Verge's eyes nothing can top mama Apple...
+kobeballer I won't lick DxOmark's toes. I'd rather go with my own eyes. DxOmark does not do real life tests. They are lab tests. IMO, iPhone 6S Plus performs the better in low light than any other android device, including the xperia z5.
+Vicky Bro I saw 5x beating 6s in terms of low light performance. watch the supersaf tv's camera comparison of 5x and 6s.
Adrian Otero Vila I believe that 6p does a better job than 6s in low-light but the source you gave compares 6p with regular i6 and not the 6s.
***** Lol it's not one guy, it's a group of dedicated camera experts who perform various advanced tests on the camera modules and the resultant pictures to arrive at conclusions. The only sheep are the people above who fly in the face of objective evidence to support their Apple obsessions
Big Papi You realize you can use different camera apps on android, right?
Awesome review, but I would say that the score on their site is a bit too critical considering the cons they put forth...
8.8/10 is almost 90%. In no way, on any planet, is 90% 'too critical'
+Dain Laguna I am not complaining about that though. What I am saying is that the rather tiny cons that they present isn't enough to give it 8.8 - I think.
+Arch all the pros =/= 10
+luqmanr Did I say that? No, what I said was that I think that the cons mentioned in the written review shouldn't hurt the score so much that it becomes an 8.8 - especially considering that certain aspects of this phone is superior than higher ranked phones.
Mind you, they gave the new iPhone 6S an overall 9/10, stating the less pixel dense IPS panel was worth a 10/10 while Huawei's 1440p AMOLED with changeable color settings was worth a 9/10. The Apple bias is real.
The only thing i dislike is the design of the phone.
a majority of people will get a case so the visor on the back becomes barely an issue
I love it. It's unique and quirky yet elegant and clean. Best phone design out.
+Can We Just Relax? True that!
I love it , graphite one looks so coool!
+Joshua deVille totally agree
I miss having this phone. Still one of the best phones I've ever had. Eventually I upgraded to the Pixel 2XL for myself and my girlfriend. Now we have the S10e, her phone was messing up and we couldn't wait until the Pixel 4XL
I wish they would also make a Compact Nexus Device... I'm not a big fan of those huge phones :/
+TheCoon 5.X.
+E.T.M.O Altough it's smaller than the 6P scrren I wouldn't call a 5,2 inch screen compact oO
I like big phones and I cannot lie.
+TheCoon I would love a 5inch version of the 6p
they should have made the nexus one 6p between 5. 2 and 5.5 inches
"android problem is the camera" Think all Samsung and Sony phones always have better camera than iphone.
+Petter Vosvel Actually the Note 5 camera is way better than the iPhone's. it's gotton to the point where looking at iPhone photos I can see the quality difference
+Petter Vosvel Thanks!
+Brandon Alberto yes. love your name by the way. come on devs and get snap chat snappy
I can't believe that he said that lol. Sony, lg, Motorola and Samsung all have better cameras than the iPhone. Subjective? Shit, I have both a iPhone and note 5 and personally tested. Want proof? Look on my Google plus page.

verge I appreciate how straight forward and honest your reviews are, not a lot of fluff, just solid info
Really enjoyed this review from the verge. It's been awhile. Awesome work!
I don't want to post a comment about European prices, but now, indirectly, I did.
"The best Android phone you can get". Wow, I'm all choked up.
- "It's the best Android phone you can get"
- "To get anything better, you'd need to spend $150 more"
Sooooo subtle 😧
Ah, I miss this phone.
I had the copper-ish model, which was gorgeous.
Dieter does the best reviews
+Asiia Phan I take it you never saw a David Pierce review then?
Sand still prefer these
+Asiia Phan I've gotta say this is the first good review from Dieter I've seen. He's usually dismissive towards Android, and ignores or down-plays features due to his iPhone preference. His tune has changed for the better this time around.
Sand that's true. He is kind of an iSheep
+Sand the verge stopped being Apple fanboys since that adblock controversy
confirmed, confirmed. Apple STOPPED sponsoring the Verge
I've approximately seen about 35 nexus 6p review etc video and TBH this review has outclassed all.
well there was nothing new, BUT IT WAS MORE REAL.
the way he walked and used the phone at the same time, made it look real.
thumbs up mate.
Really great review, guys. Very slick, I loved the transitions from voice-over to real time. People rag on you guys for being biased but you've been a lot better about that lately. Thanks for the video.
Waiting on Huawei to ship my graphite 6P :)
*Google
+Shelgo what if he purchased it directly from Huawei?
+Erik Sanchez Exactly right, I did purchase it from Huawei :)
+Shelgo *Huawei
did you get it delivered? i'm torn between it and the aluminium version
Professional review.
wow, im surprised, the verge has actually produced a great, informative review for an android device. well done
Just an FYI, quick charge stops at 75% which I believe looks like your battery graph goes beyond that. So you should actually get more than 15% in 20 minutes, especially if you're low on battery juice.
"too tall for my tastes" - same height as iPhone 6 Plus. Smh
Finally a great Nexus
Title should have been "Nexus 6P vs iPhone and how Apple is always the best, no matter how bad they are"
True honest reviews is what I expect from you +The Verge I don't really care if you don't spend the same amount of time in production as you do with iPhones
Only android phone I would ever buy would be a Nexus all the others are bloatware trash
Sony isnt
Motorola isn't
Shadow Slayer Sony still has a skin on top.
Edmundo studios You should check out Motorola's efforts to keep it barebones except for legit useful features.
Chris Sorreda Yeah Motorola is second best but still doesn't get the updates at the same time as a nexus.
Well written, and well reviewed. I actually enjoyed this, and found it informative, which is a first for The Verge (on an Android product. With any other reviewer/writer your videos/articles have always reeked of bias).
Keep this guy. And that lady who has done Android videos lately. They'll do a lot of good for your Android coverage.
I bought mine a week ago and I love it. It is leaps and bounds ahead of the phone it replaced, a Nokia Lumia 900
Finally a Nexus phone with a notification LED! My N6 is still working fine, but I just might consider getting the 6P and have the 6 as my backup.
N6 has a notification led under the top speaker grill. Google, in their infinite wisdom, decided against enabling it in the software.
+Lord Mortigon I do know that, however having to root and paying for an app to be able to use it is ridiculous. On the 6P it seems to be enabled by default.
+Lord Mortigon the Nexus 5 has one also
Wow this year the Verge actually did a decent job with the Nexus reviews. Pointed out what was wrong and praised what was right. It also helps that these Nexus phones this year are the ish. But they didn't mention the apple every 20 seconds like they did last year in the Nexus 9 review. Good job guys.
oh man all these reviews and unboxing make me want to buy one. I was gonna go with the 5x to replace my 5 but the 6p looks crazy good.
If it was ~5.2 inches and had micro SD card slot then it would be pretty much perfect imo. I wish we didn't have to buy the larger screen to get the premium phone.
After a long time, I really liked a Verge Review.
Watching mobile reviews for a long time, I kinda know what certain things imply. Hence it gets tenacious to watch the reviewers comment on the same thing again and again.
And this verge review only concentrates on all the new things that I don't already know : Like that Camera bump or Fingerprint or the implications o few new Marshmallow features. Just the implications. And ultimately, where it stands in the market. Although I kinda they didnt compare with ONEPLUS 2 or MOTO X or NEXUS 5X
This is a tightly written review meant to tell how the phone works and not what the phone is : Go to the hands-on video for that!
Absolutely amazing review! Been watching your reviews for a couple of years and this is by far the most unbiased and professionally shot review! great job guys!
When you said "This year Google turned to Sony" in regards to the camera, they also turned to Sony last year for the Nexus 6 too, just the sensor was not as good last year.
I like that bump at the top, reminds me of one of the first Droid Razr, I liked those.
***** I agree I like it too it gives it some character and personality
honestly i think the camera at the back looks damn good i like how they styled it.
Would ya just LOOK AT IT?
+Robstunner Found the Ed Bassmaster fan
+Sand hey the author started it ;)
One thing i would say to improve the video quality would be the lighting. Its just a little to dark for my liking.
excellent review my man, I'm in agreement 100%. Just picked a 128 GB version off eBay. this is my first Nexus phone. I'm never going back. lol
(Some people are probs gonna disagree to this but...) This review has restored faith in Verge. I lost my faith after watching the iPhone 6s review by Walt Mossberg, but this review was one of the best reviews that Verge has ever done.
0:45
3:09
1:58
1:03
next video is totally gonna have over 9000 references
Well, I'm sold! Finally an unbiased review from The Verge!
This is my first android phone and it's what I bought after giving up my iPhone 6. I have to say I am impressed. I picked the 6P because of it's very premium feel with the aluminum and glass, the overall design and also because it's pure android and I think that gives the best experience. Switching from an iPhone to this.. you're going to miss some things but you're also going to fall in love with some things that the iPhone doesn't have. Camera, display, speakers are all better than the iPhone 6's, the fingerprint sensor is comparable, the battery life I think is a bit better on iPhone. So far I've experienced a couple glitches and lagging but it was only a couple times. Another thing I have to say about switching is that the iPhone keyboard is probably the best. I've tried the google one and swift key on this thing and maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it, but they both feel inaccurate for typing.
Some aspects that should be not ignored
1. The phone is full of Google bloatware
2. The Huawei is known for stealing data
3. The Snapdragon 810 processor has overheating issue
4. The resale value of the nexus phones is not worth
5. There is a lack of innovation, why: The fingerprint sensor (2 years later) Aluminum unibody (Firs time) The True tone flash (Firs time), 3D Touch (Missing), Taptic Feedback (Missing), Retina Flash (Missing) !
+Kenn Richardson
The iPhone 6S has no bending issue
The nexus is full of google bloatware, sorry thats fact
With which feature came android first ??? With 3D touch, Fingerprint sensor, The True tone flash, retina flash, aluminum unibody, taptic feedback, NO!
Motorola had a fingerprint sensor on their phone in 2011, dude. And even then, the iphone 5s was the "only" phone with a fingerprint sensor for all of a month before HTC announced their flagship had it as well. And TBH, none of them did it well. The new generation of phones putting it on the back instead of in the home button is a much better idea.
Re: bloatware - Sure, I get it. Bloatware sucks. Stock Nexus is significantly lighter than anything offered by Verizon, though. And I can always root - easily - and open up my options from changing ALMOST everything about the phone, to ABSOLUTELY everything about the phone.
You, on the other hand, can't even change your icons.
The iPhone is a great phone. That being said. Do you own Jordans? If you don't, you probably know someone that does. To them, you are the" fanboy". They believe their shoes would scorch you harder than a flamewar. Same thing.
stock Android isn't bloated man, that's why it's stock. it may not be as simple as ios but it sure gives you more functionality. Honestly the point is that this phone as just as good as the iPhone for basically half the price
+Kenn Richardson
I don't need to change the icons, because I want a phone that work for me and not the other way!
I know I'm late to this conversation but I really would love it if they could bring back the Nexus line like they can keep the pixel line and the little brother could be the Nexus line and hopefully they can keep it at an affordable price with good specifications and software optimizations when I have the LG Nexus 5 the next phone I wanted to make with or collaborate with was Motorola and they did that but I couldn't afford it because it was too much I would love it if they could collaborate with Sony to make the next Nexus that if they brought the line back
One of the best Verge videos I've ever seen! great job guy!
Sooner or later, we really need a nexus 6P vs Iphone 6s plus vs MS lumia 1050XL just to see how far android, ios and windows have gotten in 2015.
This is your best review yet Dieter!
woah!
dat dynamic range 5:39 just look at the clouds and tree's shadows
So far the best review from this guy, keep up the good work.
I'm glad I'm still following The Verge even after all the hatred on Android from them lately. Keep this up, guys. Bias does no good to anyone 😃
I told ya'll Dieter would be perfect for this review. He actually likes and gives Android phones a shot instead of making snap judgement.
Was thinking about getting a Galaxy S5, since my S3 cracked about a year ago already, I think it's time for an upgrade. But damn this really makes me want to get a Nexus 6P, I think that upgrade would blow my mind. Too bad I can't afford it. Neat review though.
Oh wow, a decent review.. Of an Android device.. From the Verge!!!
The verge, please make more reviews like this
Thanks for the review. Unlike the reviews youve done on android
The only thing that's keeping me from possible buying the 6P would probably be the size. I'm no stranger to larger phones (currently using OnePlus 2) but it I might go for a smaller phone this year. The Nexus 6P seems to be one of the best, as a fan of stock Android its really tempting.
SuperSaf shows the 5X absolutely stomping the 6S in low light and the 5X is missing EIS and Smartburst in comparison. trying to make this camera out to be worse than it is.
I still don't agree with the look completely but think it's an interesting one. If anything, it doesn't have a plastic or smudgy glass back. The 6p looks like that Cyclopes from The Day the Earth Stood Still or something to that effect. As far as the performance of hardware to software, it seems promising.
One of the best and most balanced reviews on here. Nice work.
finally an honest review from the verge on an android device. well it had to happen some day !
I ordered my own nexus 6p i cant wait to get it. I ordered it w/o knowing much about it because I am switching to Project Fi.
lol interesting to see people actually talking positively about the nexus camera (not that I care for the camera at all, but it is fun to hear)
he should have activated HDR+ to remove all these noise reductions when talking photos in low light so the photos can be much better
If you want the Android experience, Nexus is ways the way to go. This is the fastest android phone I've used to date and I don't think I'm ever gonna buy any other Android device other than Nexus
coolamazon123 Nexus is finished now 😀
No mention of price in the review?
I've heard it'll cost 499$ and 449£
I'm not sure how mucht it will cost in Europe however
Awesome quality video and the best nexus 6P review I've seen so far. Keep up the good work!
Plus, dont know why Nexus fans are cursing the reveiwer. He was very neutral in his criticism of Nexus but also extremely appreciable of the new stuff this phone brings. He rated it as the best android phone in market. What more do you want?
Just a mere reference of iPhone cannot discredit all the pluses he said!
Great review! Planning to get one. Just out of curiosity, which camera did you use to shoot the video?
i have a small hand(i am Asian) and i dont think nexus 6p is too big. the screen size is perfect for reading articles online and offline. plus it has a big ass battery capacity (though not the biggest in the market) which is perfect for heavy user. and it always get recent android update. for me, this is the best phone at its price range !
thanks that's what i care abt a phone reading and battery!
Which watch is he wearing? Is it Moto 360 or Huawei watch?
Some ideas to remove the power button on a phone altogether :
1. Double tap the screen for notifications
2. Tap once on the fingerprint scanner (FS) to get into the phone
3. Tap twice on FS for camera
4. Long press on FS for switching on or off the phone
PS: am sure we can figure out some gestures on the screen to replace the volume button too. And then we can say goodbye to them hardware buttons altogether
How do you expect the phone to detect gestures on screen while the phone is off? The screen needs power.
Corey Stock - gesture on screen only for the volume and the notifications, which implies the phone should be switched on then. The other actions are performed on the fingerprint scanner (called FS)
The FS needs power too. You still have the same problem. Rejoy Panakkal
Corey Stock - the hardware for switching on/off, moves to the FS. Problem solved.
+Rejoy Panakkal The FS needs power to work, so it can't act as the power button.
it's a huge improvement from the nexus line !!
Not sure yet but I maybe leaning towards the 6p, but still wants to look at more reviews of this phone and the LG V10 to make an choice
That's it! I'm getting myself a Nexus 6P. As soon as it will be available in Sweden :)
Im really happy they took on Huawei and gave tehm some exposure. Its a really underrated phone company!
Note to crew for next time: Need much more fill light on Dieter's face when he's wearing a hat.
Decent review... honest. I will say that using Now on Tap isn't the feature I thought it would be. I find myself using it rarely, but maybe that will change over time when Google fine tunes it.
Lol if people listened to the Vergecast people would know how much The Verge team Bash the iPhone. The verge is seriously becoming one of my favorite tech channels.
I just wish 6P had an IR blaster. Would be an ultimate Android smartphone, not just the best...
Remember when all we cared about was call/connection quality? Now it's not even mentioned.
4:52 "But I still wish that somebody [...] would finally make a phone this great that can also last two or even three days."
How about the ZUK Z1? It may not have NFC, but I think the 4.1Ah battery might be worth it.
Can anyone recommend accessories for this phone? Since it's new, there isn't much in the way of screen protectors or cases.
I do not like the black edge without it, my phone would aim to buy. Excellent review!
Holy shit. The first review The Verge have done which wasn't completely Apple biased
That 240 at 720 look really good!
except one MAJOR issue they refuse to fix, NO SD CARD SLOT = no buy
got the graphite color, 32 GB model just this week. It is the best Android phone in the market, period.
what about the heating issue? haven't seen a review that talks about it,but I do CARE ABOUT IT!!!
That was a great review video, Up there with the best reviewers like Marques Brownlee. Good Job!
An actual good review from the verge without praising the Apple as the best thing ever existed?
What happened?
It's funny that they put the fingerprint scanner on the back as I have always thought about that as a possibility.
Great review DB, happy to finally see some Android devices getting to the top of the pile this year.
