You already have one of the most consistent high quality video audios. You especially nail the engine - cabin sound balance, most people lean to one, so your videos always give this enveloping feel like we're really there. Keep it up!
Nick - Hooray! Thank you so much sir, this is such a great help for those of us starting out, and naturally especially relevant to filming cars. I think the biggest takeaways for me is the 80D and its mounts, plus naturally getting good microphones, I remember it was only a few weeks ago I was one of the ones asking for this video and you delivered! What a great help to your fans and the community, champion.
Very informative video, thanks for this Nick. I'm doing most of the things you advise against lol. I use a Sony camcorder (with one of those crappy mounts and no external mic) for most talking shots when I'm on camera but I do use my Canon T3i for the b-roll stuff and a lavelier (Rode SmartLav+) when I'm talking far away from the camera. I may upgrade some stuff over the winter but try to avoid spending too much since UA-cam definitely seems to value content more highly than quality (see the cat videos shot on cell phones with millions of views lol). I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Canon G7X too as I've been considering one for vlogging.
Nick Murray Thanks Nick and sounds good! I may be coming out your way in the spring to go to Monticello for an event too so I might be able to swing by then!
Wow had no idea there was so much involved, many thanks for the quality content, been off work sick the last 3 months, culminating in bloody pneumonia now, your videos are keeping me sane, many thanks....
Great Behind-the-Scenes video! Worth mentioning some of the $ accessories, like the Ronin 3-axis gimbal, can be rented online. Even the DSLRs can be rented online for days or week at time to try before you buy. Look forward to seeing your new 911. Cheers
Hi Nick, thanks for the information. I have dabbled with videos on UA-cam but am relatively new to the game. It would be great to use a proper camera and an external microphone. I will probably look into buying cheaper equipment (versus what you featured) but will likely stick to the Canon brand. In addition to the equipment, could you comment on the software used to edit your videos? (i.e. to input graphics, music, multiple camera angles, vlog # introduction screen). And...thanks for all of your excellent content over the years. I now aspire to own a 911.
Never realized how involved A/V is! Hopefully Doug DeMuro sees this video for tips on his sound issues (his videos are great otherwise)! :) You are too modest Nick, the quality of your videos are top notch!
really good video Nick and I have often wondered if UA-cam renders video differently depending on the source. I have tried various cameras and keep getting mixed results. And you are right, sound is so important and often overlooked. I always try and hook up a lavalier mic in my vids and it makes such a big difference! Thanks for the great insight into your equipment.
Tony Northrop seems to have good luck getting the quality you're looking for with his GH4 cameras. You may check with him and see how he post processes the footage.
For camcorders you can get a c100 mark 2 or even a c100 mark 1. They are really good. Same quality as an slr but with all the good stuff from camcorders
Been waiting for this video. Great one Nick. I think you've done well since the water in the footwell of the Porsche days. That said remember these are tools and it's how you use them. People can spend thousands of dollars on a mirrorless and top lenses but never use it where you can get someone using an iphone or a gopro and make awesome stuff. Do agree on production quality though but it's what you do with what you have and also the content. Side note: the new GoPro Hero 5 can go underwater to a certain depth without a case and has a screen at the back. Have you seen the new gimbal for the GoPro that comes with the drone (Karma). It's awesome.
Yes a person will a skate boarding cat filmed on a iPhone 4 with a dirty lens in portrait mode is going to get a million more views than a perfectly produced boring video.
I just use Final Cut Pro which I know well enough to make these videos but I would be reluctant to make a video because I am self taught and likely doing many things wrong.
It's probably the format of the files that the different cameras save that messes up with the youtube re-encoding process. With that said, why no love for smaller mirrorless from Sony, like the a6300. It does 6k video and downsamples to amazing 4k, it's also quite a bit cheaper than most dslrs, granted you lose some of the bokeh.
nice video, please mention the mic brand with cost of the mic which is attached for your shirt, How would you compare 80D with 7D mark 2 exept for 7d's full frame and 10 fps shots capabilities, is 80D good medium or standard level Wedding photography? Thank you...
Nice video Nick. Do you have a drone? Thought I could see one on the goodie table. I see dji just came out with the Mavic Pro. That thing looks awesome!
Made me laugh - a Kiwi guy with a dog named Tui - not sure if that is after the beer or the native bird..? I really like this channel, keep up the good work..
Great video though I'm not sure your allowed to say "I'm no expert" while sitting in front of such a massive pile is really good and diverse gear. ;) While I drive a Targa 997.2 my filming interests are another nerdy area, model railroad. To that end I'll be doing most of my filming with a GoPro and my iPhone 6plus. ( no getting big cameras in there in 1:87 scale ) So the gimbal options were what interested me. To whit.... The Feiyu Tech G4 has such a mixed bag of reviews on amazon (as appears to be the case with most gimbals) of folks love it or it just breaks and fails for them. Across the board the customer device is not something one can rely one - Chinese based and all, but it kit works out of the box and is well made you'll never need it. Have you experienced any of the issues with the small gimbals that other reviewers seem to have where the systems fail internally, Or they can drive themselves to self destruction extents?
Love your channel Nick! Such clear and informative videos. You have an easy style that makes watching a joy. I shoot my Porsche channel mostly on iPhone 4S although I've got a Canon 5d Mk ii recently so am trying to master that! Nice tip for the mic - will probably check that out. Would love you opinion of my channel if you get a free moment?
Without wanting to hijack Nick's channel with my nonsense my biggest tip for iPhone image quality is good natural daylight and never use the digital zoom.
If you have time and the interest, while you are waiting for your fabulous new 911, can you persuade the Porsche dealer to lend you a new current design Panamera and then review the new Panamera when it becomes available in 2017. I suspect the four door, while not in the same class as the Bentley ,will surprise us all and we trust your judgement. No pressure. Look forward to the eight weeks being gone and your new 911 being reviewed.
Interesting on the GH4 picture. Are you shooting 1080p at 100 or 200 Mbits? From what I've read, the 1080p is actually better at the lower compression setting.
Nick, have you found a mic that stays clear at speeds over 150-170 MPH? I have noticed that the sound gets sketchy above those speeds, I was even watching some of Sabine's videos from the Nurburgring and even her videos had audio distortion over 140-150 MPH.
6:32 the problem with the Canon...it can't handle red and red hues even if your life depends on it. Used to take a lot of pictures at autoshows...damn, every red car came out as anything but red.
brdpit Casey's mistake was that he felt compelled to state the obvious. Nick is educated, has a good job and doesn't have a brain injury so, we already know who he's voting for.
Nick, the 3-suction-cup mount you mentioned being not very good, is that the Delkin Fat Gecko? I'm considering getting it off Amazon ($99) and mounting my Canon 70D to it for external car mounting. It has great reviews so I'm a bit puzzled.
Yes it is the fat Gecko, it will mount your 70D but it is not strong enough at the neck to prevent movement with a camera like the 70D it works better with light camcorders. It is well priced however so it might be all you need.
Great video Nick! Did you use an Apple Mac / iMovie to put it together? If not, what did you use, and how many hours did it take to put this together? I'm interested to know how you got the side-by-side footage. Thanks!
One thing that annoys me about most youtube videos is the focus. It will always be tracking, especially when you move objects (eg, hands) around infront of your face, etc. I'd almost want to suggest people lock their focus to a certain spot, and refrain from moving.
Hi Nick, thanks for making this video! I'm one of those who has asked you in the past for advice on video production. With regards to shooting video using a DSLR, I always struggle with focus, and I notice that you also have focus issues in this video. Do you have any advice for autofocus settings?
I still love my AX-53...small and easy so I can always catch a shot in a pinch. Plus without a stabilizer my DSLR would make you vomit if i were to walk around with it =p . Thanks for showing the toys!
I have this camcorder too and it's exceptional. Better than a DSLR. I don't think Nick is right that a DSLR is better. If you find a camcorder like the AX53 that performs really well, it cannot be beat.
Nick, would you care to share what kind of mount you use when recording speedometers? I was watching your latest Ferrari video and it looks like a multi-arm unit with a large suction cup, but I can't find anything on google or amazon like that.
Hey Nick, quick question. What equipment are you using for video editing ? or what do you recommend? I need new computer and trying to shop around for best set up. Practical of course.
Well it is on order due at the end of the year so there is not much else to say at the moment. Would you like me to make a video on how I ended up configuring it?

+nick murray Great video. You really should get an amazon affiliate link to make money when people click and buy. All the big youtubes do it. Nothing wrong with it unless you push crap product. But that's not you. Food for thought.

Nick Murray Thanks Nick and sounds good! I may be coming out your way in the spring to go to Monticello for an event too so I might be able to swing by then!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Your attention to detail is appreciated.
Wow had no idea there was so much involved, many thanks for the quality content, been off work sick the last 3 months, culminating in bloody pneumonia now, your videos are keeping me sane, many thanks....
the light in the back is beautiful... nice auto focus
Great Behind-the-Scenes video! Worth mentioning some of the $ accessories, like the Ronin 3-axis gimbal, can be rented online. Even the DSLRs can be rented online for days or week at time to try before you buy. Look forward to seeing your new 911. Cheers

Just makes you realise how much gear you really need.
When is the 911 arriving Nick?
Everything I wondered, needed to know and more in one shot. Thanks a lot. Very useful.
Never realized how involved A/V is! Hopefully Doug DeMuro sees this video for tips on his sound issues (his videos are great otherwise)! :) You are too modest Nick, the quality of your videos are top notch!
Lots of great tips in there Nick - thanks.
Cheers Nick, very useful tips! Hopefully try a few out in the next video. Have a good day!

Great video, very informative. Thanks Nic!
Very helpful Cheers Nick! PS I won't be asking you tips on picking up ladies...
Nice toys, good video. You forgot to mention the drones.
nice job dude. i don't agree with everything you've said but you are the one making these fabulous videos and i appreciate you sharing your insights!
You can always make the angle narrow on the gopro and it reduces the fisheye
Tony Northrop seems to have good luck getting the quality you're looking for with his GH4 cameras. You may check with him and see how he post processes the footage.

I can't wait to watch your review video on your 991.2!
Shoot and upload in 1440p and up. UA-cam encodes with a higher bitrate for those resolutions and they don't kill the quality.
Been waiting for this video. Great one Nick. I think you've done well since the water in the footwell of the Porsche days. That said remember these are tools and it's how you use them. Portrait shaky video and get your dog to bite your finger will go viral lol
pandaK9
?
Shmee uses a camcorder. I've always thought it looks pretty good but you're right almost nobody uses them anymore
Yes Shmee is a good example, his production quality is never very high but he more than makes up for that with outstanding content.
Shmee's vids are awful. great cars but his vids make me want to throw up on a regular basis....
What a great video, thanks Nick, would you be able to make a video about software/editing please, thank you.
I just use Final Cut Pro which I know well enough to make these videos but I would be reluctant to make a video because I am self taught and likely doing many things wrong.
very helpful,,thx a lot for taking the time to help people

Seriously great 👍 equipment video
awesome video Nick!!
thanks for this ! love your vids. and your lil dog is so cute !
Great video, very useful information
Nick what would you say about the Canon G7X? Seems like that's a popular option especially for youtubers on the go or vlogging especially
What a great informative video. Thank you! What do you use for editing?
Final Cut Pro
Another great Video, learn alot. Thanks mate
Nick, love all your videos!!...Have you given any thought on doing an Editing video?? Go over what you use, what you have tried etc?
I use Final Cut, I have also tried Adobe Premiere but I am no expert.
Great video though I'm not sure your allowed to say "I'm no expert" while sitting in front of such a massive pile is really good and diverse gear. ;)

Awesome mate - thanks!

This time on... after watching 4-5 of your videos I can confirm that they are outstanding. I will be watching more!
Very nice channel and great quality videos! thats impressive that you use an iphone 4s. Any tips on uploading to get good quality with the iphone.
Without wanting to hijack Nick's channel with my nonsense my biggest tip for iPhone image quality is good natural daylight and never use the digital zoom.
Thank you for helping us
Thanks so much nick!
Great video Nick. Any thoughts on the Sony actioncam series compared to the gopros?
Great Video Nick 👌
Good to see William came back with the Bentley :)
Great video! What kind of lens is on your GH4? The wide angle shot is perfect for driving shots, I need to buy that lens!

Look forward to the eight weeks being gone and your new 911 being reviewed.
I have asked the suction mounts for dslrs in past videos and you didn't answer those directly but thanks so much for the video :) Have a nice day
Glad I got there in the end!
+Nick Murray First, you made this video. Now answering my comment, my day keeps getting better :)
Great jumper, where did you get it from...?
What are the top 5 youtubers that you watch regularly?
Interesting on the GH4 picture. Are you shooting 1080p at 100 or 200 Mbits? From what I've read, the 1080p is actually better at the lower compression setting.
Do a video on editing software
Your white balance is different between cameras :p lol I love your channel.
Nick, have you found a mic that stays clear at speeds over 150-170 MPH? I have noticed that the sound gets sketchy above those speeds, I was even watching some of Sabine's videos from the Nurburgring and even her videos had audio distortion over 140-150 MPH.
Waiting for a video like this for an age :)
6:32 the problem with the Canon...it can't handle red and red hues even if your life depends on it. Used to take a lot of pictures at autoshows...damn, every red car came out as anything but red.
Nick, please don't make a video saying your voting for Hillary Clinton. I'd hate to have to stop watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
brdpit Casey's mistake was that he felt compelled to state the obvious. Nick is educated, has a good job and doesn't have a brain injury so, we already know who he's voting for.
I THINK NICK NEEDS THE FINAL WORD
Nick, the 3-suction-cup mount you mentioned being not very good, is that the Delkin Fat Gecko? I'm considering getting it off Amazon ($99) and mounting my Canon 70D to it for external car mounting. It has great reviews so I'm a bit puzzled.

Nick Murray thanks Nick. The Matthews 6" single suction pump cup is 30 dollars more. Do you recommend that for the 70D?
Yes that will work
Hey Nick, what mounts did you use for the gopros in the Porsche experience video?
Nick what are your thoughts on Leica cameras?
Thanks Nick! I built it. Now I only need the drone😅😁
Great video Nick! Did you use an Apple Mac / iMovie to put it together? If not, what did you use, and how many hours did it take to put this together? I'm interested to know how you got the side-by-side footage. Thanks!
I use Final Cut Pro for most of my editing. This video was a very simple 1 hour to put together video
interesting video, thanks.
One thing that annoys me about most youtube videos is the focus. It will always be tracking, especially when you move objects (eg, hands) around infront of your face, etc. I'd almost want to suggest people lock their focus to a certain spot, and refrain from moving.
Did you go to the last C&C in New Canaan?
Nick are you going to become a Drive Tribe Leader?
Hi Nick, thanks for making this video! I'm one of those who has asked you in the past for advice on video production. With regards to shooting video using a DSLR, I always struggle with focus, and I notice that you also have focus issues in this video. Do you have any advice for autofocus settings?
Using a STM lens (which I was not in this video) and using face rec (also not in this video) do make a big difference.
Hi, Nick. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I hope 2018 brings you some great videos and adventures.
I think whatever works for you is what you should use.
Where did you get that shirt? I wants
Do you think that fluffy thing that you have on one of your mics would work, or have you tried it at over 150MPH?
Nick, would you care to share what kind of mount you use when recording speedometers? I was watching your latest Ferrari video and it looks like a multi-arm unit with a large suction cup, but I can't find anything on google or amazon like that.
Do a search for mygoflight they sell them
Nick Murray thank you!
Is that a 993 you're driving at 5:10, Nick? Upcoming video?
And I just saw the 993 later in the video. Hopefully a new video? I'm a 993 owner and interested to hear your impressions.
Yes it is an upcoming video. I love the 993 so deeply. The video I did on it was a little rushed so I hope it comes out okay.
Hooray! Looking forward to it!
Where did you get your jumper home slice?
Dominic Bradley I custom made it on Cafepress
Nick Murray top man, I'm stealing your idea and making my brother one, only with a "1/10" thanks nick, keep up the great channel 👍🏼
JayzTwoCents got a camcorder.
I've always loved your video quality but, how do you get such clear sound of the exhaust sound on the outside of the car with no wind noise
Oh the trick is an open case GoPro with an external mic wrapped with cling wrap. Believe it or not!
Thanks i will give it a shot
Just bought a Sony a7r4a but I still suck the doodle
I don't have the same issues with the gh4. I wonder if it is your settings
To clarify, I only have a problem with the GH4 if ever pixel on the screen is moving at once. If it is just me talking or similar then it is perfect.
Your hair looks like you had a great time that night.
Whatever happened to the Canon C300 you had a while back?
I sold it, it really did not fit my needs and it was super expensive
Hey Nick, quick question. What equipment are you using for video editing ? or what do you recommend? I need new computer and trying to shop around for best set up. Practical of course.
Churrukutaco Final Cut Pro X is the best all round solution
thanks. I was actually asking about hardware. Laptop/Desktop and so forth? if you have any recommendations of course. Thanks.
Churrukutaco oh sorry. No I just use a maxed out MacBook Pro or Mac Pro. With video editing the more power memory and disk the better.
nothing beats a sony a7r/a7s
You know you're been watching a long video when it says video log 26 in the beginning and video log 36 in the end...
Good spotting. Always with the typos on this channel!
How do you record comms/radio audio on aircraft?
Loop in a recorder on a headset
Nick Murray
Thank you. It will be very useful /)
Hey nick! I got a question what video editing do you use?? Like what video program do you use?
Final cut
Thanks for the quick response!
Where is your 911?
Nick where is the new Porsche video, everyone is waiting...lol
Well it is on order due at the end of the year so there is not much else to say at the moment. Would you like me to make a video on how I ended up configuring it?
Fuck yeah!!
Nick Murray Yes!
Yes that would be great, as long as we see Tui as well.
Immediately!!
991????
Nick, where da hell were those girls, man?!
I know right?
sony fdr x3000 beats go pro in terms of sound and image quality
Nick, you are at least a 5.4/10
Thanks!! I think I am 6 in dim lighting
Hey fellow teetotaller, how come there are so many bottles of wine in your house?
Because of females...
Hmm. . . . You get them drunk with wine, and then what? I have the same modus operandi; I confess. But I drink along with them, and so I'm less creepy. :)
Nick Murray oh, the ones you keep in the basement? I thought they were dead!
It rubs the lotion on it's skin.........................haha
1:48 they definitely WHAT us?
you were in AV club and chess club.......look at me ...I'm White and Nerdy....(Weird Al)
Totally white and nerdy....
...so do you like Kirk or do you like Picard?
Kathryn Janeway
Calimag it's part of our white privilege.
+nick murray Great video. You really should get an amazon affiliate link to make money when people click and buy. All the big youtubes do it. Nothing wrong with it unless you push crap product. But that's not you. Food for thought.
