  • I have begun activities to regenerate trees that have been cut down for various reasons.
    Make something that someone else has cut off.
    Sawdust is reused as building material.
    In this video, I use a woodlathe to create a vase with trees woodturning of a block of Cedar wood.
    What vases can you make from this Cedar log? !
    So please check it out end.

    Thank you for posting these videos. For some of us that can’t do this type of art, it is very peaceful and relaxing to watch wood turning craftsmen. I’m dealing with a pretty grim medical diagnosis, so I enjoy the peace they bring me even more.
    I hope you have good health and prosper.
    I actually had two technical questions about this piece of wood. Did it have higher than normal moisture/water in the wood?
    And did the thicker annual growth lines and grain of this wood make it harder to turn smoothly?
    Thank you!

    • @YamabikoWoodArt
      @YamabikoWoodArt  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for your comment!🙇🇯🇵 I am very happy to hear that. This log was cut down and left unattended. It was very wet, probably within 2 months. And the thick annual rings made the work difficult. It's the first time I've had you understand that much. I don't think you've ever done woodturning.👏

    • @wreednelson
      @wreednelson 2 роки тому

      @@YamabikoWoodArt That’s just a bit of luck and deductive thinking on my part. 👍🏻 I have a few ideas on what might make turning wood difficult, but have never touched a lathe or gouge. I have machined metals before… so a little understanding comes from that experience.
      For such a difficult wood, you turned out a fine piece of art.
      I also like your tool handling methods. I believe you cross the danger zone of the tool rest much less often with your hands and work safer. I also think you might have a better than average “feel” of the tools as they work just by the way you hold and manipulate them.
      Very impressive, Yamabiko-San!

    Excellent work! Do you prefer the bevel on the inside or outside of your hook tool? It looked like you used both on this project. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.

      Lee's hook tool is the best tool. I use it when digging along with fibers, but it finishes beautifully regardless of the orientation.

    Hello Yamabiko , Great work again . Try taking the next step in Sphere Work & from the solid turn a 7 pointer star equally spaced all over. Once you manage next up an octet turn out of a cube . Managing those Nicely try yourself on an hendecagon !! 👏👏🤓👍😉😳

      It can be difficult for me to make an accurate sphere, which is clumsy. But when that happens, I'll try the method you taught me.

      I didn't know if it was the same cedar as in America. However, Japanese cedar also smells very good. In Japan, cedar is mainly used as a building material.
