People don’t appreciate music like this.. the music we do is so hard to grasp! Love this
Rapsody brought me here ..interview on youtube she said jean grae and lauryn hill inspired her..
Researched this..
Now everyday therapy..
I failed at 17 and let it happen as a man..i could of stopped it..
It hau st me to thia day the life me and my ex lost..
But she is happy now..
And i praise GOD FOR THAT
i wanna sde her happy
Even though she not with me..
Abortion is wrong....
Us men and women REAL MEN AND WOMEN who been thru it..
Know what im talking bout..
Ahit haunts u in ya quiet moments
Early mornings
And late nights...
Kush helps some though😶😔
Lord i kno what ive done
PLEASE FORGIVE ME
When she came out her fan base was probably all male.
I always come back to this song every year ❤️
damn its crazy how common this situation in life is.. i think HALF of women go thru it.. i like shit like this. we can all relate to the song and video. hella deep. sad, but uplifting. its good to know you are not alone...
do you remember making this comment? Just take a look at all you have achieved since then. I've been a fan since The Transition. Keep doing you, brave lady.
Oh shit Reverie up in here! Mad props and love to you for all you've achieved 😊
The realest song I ever heard in my life from any female.
Or perhaps, one of the realest songs you've ever heard.
M.Dee Agreed...
one of the realest songs at all.
Anthony Echols hard knock life for real
"How cud I possibly correspond with god when I gave the authority to end dat life" that line gave me chills, it really touched me for real...
She’s one hell of a storyteller. I love her music
Jean Grae had one of the largest vocabularies on that study they did of both men and women. You got people listening to trash like Iggy and Nicki yet they're sleeping on Jean.
+Bryan H. tryin to keep us blind but the truth is the light........jean grea all day
+Bryan H. Yes!
check out Aesop Rock he has the most original lyrics according to studies
Christian Price I've been listening to Aesop for five years. The study was about him having the largest vocab in Hip Hop. He used the most unique words out of the first 35,000 lyrics he had in his discography. Labor Days and None Shall Pass are my favorite albums by Aesop.
Do you have a link to the study? Drop knowledge! She is definitely an underrated female rapper in this game.
I've been listening to this song since the first time it was out. I try not to listen to it too often because it has such a strong hold on me. It's a visceral experience. It transcends hip hop by any means. Jean Grae, if you so happen to read this, just know you altered my life in ways I could only hope to pay you back in some way. I'm trying. To the rest of the individuals who somehow and for whatever reason found themselves here, watching this video, keep it alive. Love. I hope you find peace.
Christian Landa the depth with which you speak #heartfelt
Christian Landa 🙌🏻👌🏻
i can tell you ive definitely heard almost everything possible thing rapped about in my 40+ yrs and nobody i can come close to think of has put such a deep personal woman experience like this on wax. takes a certain individual to lay it out there with the emotion and skill level like tht. Amazing.
You ever heard KA? You'd love his catalogue
first song that.. made me cry
her story is MINE....
i felt every word she said .
This beat gives me goosebumps 😮
Me too lol
The fact that people claim they love hip hop but won't support female emcees makes me very very upset. I found out that Jean Grae will be breaking away from rapping. She was one of my favorite rappers. I have all of her albums, including the eps she released. Here's to you #JeanGrae. I'm sorry
omg seriously shes.not rapping anymore? sadd:/
really... she good
I know she is I just miss her:)
Raps but she a talented singer
women won't even support female emcees so what does that day
GOD Bless Jean Grae! It took her a lot of courage to release this track.
Definitly wouldn't mine hearing a Jean Grae + Kendrick Lamar collabo
Jeremy Dixon or $kaduf, he did a track called Nostalgia.
Say word!!!
For real!
This is a masterclass of storytelling and pain. I've just discovered Jean Grae and I'm over the moon I found her. Yet pissed off I've never heard of her before, she's lyrically incredible and her flow is liquid gold. She deserves to be much more well known, this is the hip hop I've been looking for and didn't know it. Amazing
I absolutely agree with you 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I listen to this song 10 times a day
Tatyana Morris feel you this is a classic
Freaking underrated
This is where I am now. I keep it on repeat and I mourn my child that I lost to my selfish carelessness and sinful youth.
I always shed a tear when I hear this song. SOO beautifully written.
"...when the rain comes down, I know it's falling for me, and only for me..." DOPE.
My favorite part
Lyrics from Genius.com
"If I could swim a thousand lakes to bring your life back
I write that, but infinity can't rewind facts
You are divinity
My primitive mind was struggling
Just to understand the meaning of life, forgive me
I never told my mommy, I couldn't break her spirit
She always wished her daughter, extraordinary thinking
So I traveled alone, young, sixteen got in the habit of not stayin' at home
Doing the sad walk like
Bill Bixby, a dollar fifty
Trips to the hospital so that Medicaid could fix me
I couldn't eat shit. I fainted frequent. On cold floors and I pause and I think, keep it
I'm lost, my four friends know
And just fuck at the boys' apartments for rent, so
I'm all wishin' that it's a dream ending soon
I've actually erased a lot that I've been through
(Chorus)
See when the rain comes down, I know it's fallin' for me, and only for me
And when the pain comes around, there's nowhere else I rather would be
I know what I've done, Please forgive me
Now all my bitter homies sayin' that's what men do
Feelin' retarded for seeing partner potential
On top of that, the doctors telling me a heart murmur
I can't take it; I'm contemplating a Glock burner, a cop murderer
I can't be, this can't be
The tears streaming and I can't see, they lance me
And I'm passin' out, and this is just for blood
They had to cover the mass amounts, I've had enough
And you don't know what it's like in waiting rooms
And outside their picketing pictures could slay you
Their screamin' victims, and spitting till they shame you
I hold my head low and shiver push my way through
They put you in a room, where you can change into
Your gown and shower cap, shaking as a fiend would do
And that's when you think of leaving, fleeing the building and then they call you and you hear the call of your children
They count down from ten now, you wanna stop 'em but you say it in your head, your out for the cut
Then you wake up in another room with plenty others
They call it recovery; you're thinkin' we ain't mothers
And then prescription pills, written a 'scrip with chills
An understatement, you're dressed but you're naked still
And your brain won't think straight
Wait - Can't finish this
(Chorus)
I kept it bottled up; my parent's found the pills
Screaming God what have you done?
Cried till I snotted blood, then got a gun
My temper ran quick tho, from the thought, then the worst I was caught in the same place
A year later, for me that's when hatred started
My faith martyred, I've dated a father but farther, then I moved on
Years past, the guilt's worse and it builds till your heart' smashed
Then I miscarried 22 age, I was headed to a breakdown
Swallowed up some pills and I laid down
I was a failure at that too, bailed from the rap then but fate took me back in
Sing is a tattoo my fingers attached with
Twenty-seven with three kids that I never met
What if I was Catholic? Wonder if they hate me?
Thinking how their mother could ever murder?
Well take me hell - to the depths where the brimstone chokes me constantly
I am a monster, see
How could I possibly correspond with God when I gave the authority to end that life?
But it's never over, even if we have a child
They coulda had a brother or sister or both
I'm thinking about another life that almost got close
Prayin' that in another time we coulda' changed posts
If I could just reverse time, I would
I don't know what I would do, honestly it's not good
I'm sorry"
Absolute Genius.
Codeine Fiend Not at all...
Bootney Lee Farnsworth you mean absolute Jeanius

i've loved this song for YEARS how the hell am i just now seeing this video. omg i love it
Reminds me of Rapsody. This is the kind of hip hop I personally listen to.
Linda Dlamini support the real
Jean Grae is her mentor
true dat rhapsody kinda copied jeans flow...but they both good rare gems in this multitude of wack rappers
Jean Grae Rapsody, Snow the product, Rah Diggah and Remy Ma should form a Femcee group
@@darrionreed1240 please take the F off lol 😂 no hate, but that's just bad. Emcee is fine. They could just be named cleverly
She's easily in my top 50.
she has to be one of the best Female MC's of all time. First heard her on Soda and Soap and then Hold U by Masta Ace. When i heard that verse in the perspective of a microphone, i knew she was something special.
I discovered Jean in 08 when Talib Kweli 'Hot Thing' remix dropped and loved her voice
She dope as Hell
Heard Jean From The Illest.Revolutionary vol.1 by immortal technique till then I knew she was dope and a beauty.
Jean is in a league of her own
This is art.
Phenomenal video and song. Definite classic, so soulful. 9th did his thing on the beat.
9th WONDER THE 🐐
She doesn't get the respect she deserves as an emcee, she has the top spot with the women and she's better than most men.
Chills! Too real the won't play it mainstream. Smh
what a lovely lovely song/story ,it captures the mood ,i dnt doubt that its true, and i just lite the fire to another get way ,i'll be back soon
Next to Roxanne Shanté, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, MC Antoinette and (The 90's) Lil' kim she's the best female MC I know. You deserve more views!
Wow . . this is Deeeep !
You can't even include the word female when praising her, cuz she is one of the best rappers ever
One of the greatest emcees of all time....the Phoenix. Jean Grae

Been looking for this song since I went song searching when I was 15, im 21 now and it still makes me cry.
poethic. grazie mille
The sad thing is that if you don't know where to look, good music like this is hidden from most people & you will almost never see it on t.v. Only underground radio stations will play artists like her.
I've seen this video over a dozen times, but every time the abortion scene comes up, I have to suppress the tears! And I'm just straight a guy who doesn't know what it's like to be pregnant.
and shes beautiful
Why isn't this on spotify?! :(
I love it! Nuff Respect!
So real, so grounded in reality and hip hop tradition. So strong. Great rap.

I just feel so blessed I don't suffer from Jean Grae deficiency syndrome.
I don't even know what this comment means.
Sinnessa me either
Sinnessa Kuntbrigade probably means he/she is glad they know who Jean Grae is. A life without Jean Grae seems unfathomable. Feel soory for the poor souls that haven't heard her music.
god that was beautiful
Jean Grae love your music please keep it coming. You do have fans that follow you.
This is sweet. This is what the music should be about. NICE!!!!

#CLASSICHIPHOP
LOVE
9th wonder beats on 🔥🔥🔥
Love Jean Grae music...
first time hearing your music..it's amazing!..instant fan.
this song is a masterpiece
THIS defines rap music!!
🔥 🔥 🔥
The best female rapper I've ever heard is a south african woman from new york, by the name of jean grae
I can relate to this song and I thank you for this. No one can understand the pain a woman has to go through and how much guilt one feels. It is ultimately between "you" and God and no one else. God does forgive.
Excellent.
Wow. my preconceptions of this were totally blown over upon actually listening to it. HEAVY.. In my opinion rap is meant to talk about this stuff. say it like it is. She does just that. Very good. Impressed
Top 3 Female Rapper all time. Prove me otherwise
that was awesome
timeless music...
Classic
too DOPE.
Classic.................
Deep confession. Ouch. Keep yer head up mommy. If you weren't capable to raise us and you brought us through, it may have killed us all just the same AND killed you too. God hears you. May this burden become wisdom to be shared and wider known because of your heart to help other woman through the same and to PREVENT women from getting knocked up by boys.
The importance is subjective. What I'm saying is that, while it's great that she's a very skilled female MC, I'm not rating her based on being a woman... I'm rating her on being good at what she does.
She's great regardless
Her cuz she killed the cypher
wow that was ill, that was deep
2021 and it still feels like the first time I heard it
Sick tune!!!!
great music!!!!
PEACE!!!!
This be the truth. We need more of this and less of the superficial and fake ish parading as Hip-Hop. Tracks like these mean something and they touch someone somewhere giving hope to somebody and that's profound. Jean Grae I feel you!
What God R They Prying To... To Make Me Feel Like This. Deep
