*Facetime from Michael Kristy* Oh that’s sweet, he usually calls. *answers FT staring directly into a camera lens* I don’t know what else I expected, maybe one day I’ll be prepared to be in one of these little videos. Also let’s goooo with the chemical aging!! Chemical aging!!! Sanding!! Chemical aging of nickel plated brass buttons!!! You saw it here first folks!!
Genuinely surprised no other company has thought to include "hand aged buttons" as a value add? You're an inadvertent marketing genius! Better hook me up with one of the first runs!
Micheal, this journey you have brought us on has been fathomless and yet it is not over. I, and I assume all of us feel as we are apart of this project. No matter the outcome (I’m sure it will be perfect) I will be trying my hardest to get a hold of the end jacket. Not only as a piece of fashion/clothing but as a profound experience. That’s all, Go on Micheal!
The fact that you take the time to do it personally, by hand, is astounding. Props to you, mate. That is just amazing. These jackets will truly have your heart and soul put into them.
All the buttons look absolutely stunning mate! It's kinda cool how no two buttons are gonna be exactly the same. Also, that gold button looked great too! I'm sure your final denim jacket is gonna look absolutely amazing!
Loving the hardware. Are you planning on adding an inside loop at the neck to hang on a coat rack (as opposed to always needing a hanger). Looking forward to the next update
First you dropped them in the acid and I was like "yeah, thats neat! I like it" and then you did the sandpaper-thing and I was like "WOUH! Thats epic for a button". So yeah, I got excited over a button.
Buttons looked so awesome! I got a prologue and I can’t wait to put my buttons through the paces to make them look like that! Couldn’t be happier about the jacket though!
Dude amazing wiz shit. I’ve been keeping up with your channel, I love that you went for Type III, I appreciate that your jacket would have the hand warmers, I appreciate that you’re going extra miles for the details, and I can’t wait to have them. I put all other jackets aside for now until I get my hands on the Iron Snail itself. Keep it up Mike Man you’re doing great ✨👌
Hey Michael! I had a question, I bought some unbranded ub201s I'm a 32 inch waist can fit a 31, but when my jeans arrived in a 32 inch waist they are extremely tight, they are sanfronized but are tight in the thigh/butt area and can't lift my leg and can only barely button the top button if I suck in my stomach, will the jeans stretch out or do I return them. They are skintight on my thighs but fit fine on my lower legs.
glad you went with the aged button, I think I looks very good compared to the original silvery color. Great video mike, love seeing your progress as usual
Would be cool to group buttons by color for each jacket as best you could… some are more gold/bronze while others are still gray/nickel tinged. You could even make the gold ones a special edition from your first batch. Or whichever has a smaller production run could be the special edition. Then charge a premium for the 1 of 15 jacket or whatever. Boom!!
Hey! So I’ve been watching some of your videos and I noticed you spend some holidays (could be all, I haven’t watched every video on your channel….yet) on the Cape, I’m born and raised on Cape Cod, did you grow up here or do you just happen to have family on the Cape? If you are from here, which part are you from? Lower, upper? Just curious. It’s fairly rare to see people in any media who are from Cape Cod, so it always makes me happy to see.
well done, they look great. I'm in the camp where I am happy with both looks, the various tones look pretty cool too. Hope you had a great day and keep smashing it.
Hey Michael! While browsing the black friday sales I happened to come across a sweater with a snail on it. It’s by Howlin’(great brand that makes some of the best funky knitwear pieces around) and called: snails in paradise. I don’t know who besides maybe you would want a sweater with a snail on it, but I figured I had to let you know! Absolutely love your videos and have been watching since early on. Found you through the filson jacket review I think and It’s really inspiring to see how far you have come since. Interesting subjects, great cinematography/editing and a fast paced, bordering on chaotic energy in the very best way. Keep it up!
Man - The barbour video got me into this channel. I’m not a denim head by any means and never owned a denim jacket. But if you make them big boys sizing I’m copping one - I appreciate you brother.
Hey dont worry about competition from me i couldnt do it but is youtbe really decent side money? Including affiliate links. Always been curious. You seem really business minded so Id imagine that to be the case.
Nice bit of chemistry there. 👍 Great buttons, but I must say, as someone who lives in the UK, I’m very impressed with the size of your garage. Our garages are a quarter of the size! 😁
Hey Iron Mike! I've got an idea for a cool detail you could include that might scratch the itch you had for that patch(it was a good call to not presew that on). Are you familiar with Adventure Time and the way the little snail is somewhere in every episode? So I think you should do a little embroidered snail, something small and simple the same color as whatever stitching you use and put it somewhere on the jacket(maybe have it always be somewhere along the stitching or something). Then when you do different jackets and possibly paints in the future you can move the little snail around and it can tie into the whole "Story of the Iron Snail" part like this is the journey on your clothes. Don't end with a snail trail tho!...or do?
LMAO 0:12 - 0:30 Okay, this might be video that makes me subscribe. I'll definitely purchase an article of your clothing line, just to get one of those buttons. Another cool video.
Brass buttons when they age creates character like patina on leather. I dont mind aging them compared to regular buttons that make me urge to clean them so they can retain their character.
I don't really like aged buttons. Buttons age over time and it's kinda weird seeing a brand new jeans with aged buttons. My TCB jeans for example had a very shiny but it started to collect texture and rust over time. It's just more natural.

DEAL! And THNAKS!

Go on Micheal!
Thank you for the kind words!!

Don't they rust more easily as a result?
I'm guessing the original had some kind of coating on?
I said left but that is perfect. You made the right call mate, nice one 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Ty so much!

Before the sanding, I wasn't down. But it looks great with sanding dude

TY!
As a 6’1 woman in ok shape, I hope you all ready to be absolutely smoked when viewing me in this jacket. Smoked!
THE HYPE!
Hoe long did it take to do them all
MmmM I’d say around 5-6 hours!
I don't really like aged buttons. Buttons age over time and it's kinda weird seeing a brand new jeans with aged buttons. My TCB jeans for example had a very shiny but it started to collect texture and rust over time. It's just more natural.
Next round of jackets will have unaged buttons!
Do you sell jackets?
SOON!
Those buttons look like the highly valued doubloons found from a sunken Spanish galleon!
Hope this jacket dose not cost a lot for all the hand made work done to it!
What size Sherpa jacket ?
Small!
I wish I could cop one of these jackets man but I’m in school lol
Hahaha hey hopefully I’ll be making them for a very long time
Salute sign off
You know how it goes!
Aged 👍
this is the exact level of neurosis I subscribe for
Glad I can deliver!
Is dad the iron squid?
……………..yes
I can read in the label: aged by hand
BOOM GREAT
4:17 aged looks better imo
There are many like that!
you shouldn't have ordered nickel plated buttons. you could have just ordered plain brass ones then age it.
I actually ordered a different finish for the button but these came instead so I aged them to meet in the middle!
Aged is always better
Michael, please upload videos like it used to be , every friday! not other days, only fridays like you were doing. Thanks for uploading on a Friday!
:) deal! Well I’ll try my absolute best…maybe some bonus ones are non-Fridays
If you do everything yourself the jacket will cost 500$ 😂😂
Bahahaha this is true!
