Even in a simple format, you still showcase your talent with sheer power and smoothness, and to use a Beatles song to compliment that. You rock as always
Thank you!
@@CharlesBerthoud Always!
This isn't the Beatles, it's Metallica. He would never play something as weak as the Beatles!
@@since1876, dont disrepect the beatles by saying its weak…
@@since1876The Beatles aren’t weak
That playing is cleaner than the Mr clean magic eraser
😂😂😂
My friend, I am a professional musician here in Sao Paulo (Brazil) and I can say that is a honor and a blessing to see and most of all hear u playing!!! U are probably one of the best bass players nowadays and I am pleased to see your passion, dedication and love to our goddess music... I just wanna thank u from the bottom of my heart... u are simply awesome man, thanks a lot and whenever u are here in Sao Paulo get in touch so I can show u the beauty of brazilian music ❤ blessings my friend
Looks like Charles is going to Brazil.
Falou bonito 👏👏
Bossa nova is the best music EVER
Good stuff, music bringing people together
@@Jon14141 music is the most high ❤️
Since today is my 66th birthday and also the 66th anniversary of the first time that Paul played with John back in 1957 you could not have picked a better song to showcase on your channel. Charles, thank you very much for a very well played rendition of one of my all-time favorite Beatles songs I have grown up with them all my life. well done as always.
Late happy birthday
@@kingofpenguins4157 Thank you kind sir
Good stuff
Hope you had a great birthday mate!
@@rancos9 I had a great day with my family. Thank you very much.
I was expecting to just hear the acoustic sounds of the strings hitting the frets but this was much better.
Yeah that would’ve sounded pretty terrible especially as it’s all tapping 😅
@@CharlesBerthoud actually that would be nice
@@Asftghii7867 have you ever heard what unplugged bass tapping sounds like? 😅
i was ready for iphone audio of a video Charles aciddentaly recorded the audio for the wrong way and he was too lazy to rerecord it
@@Asftghii7867 the string between his finger and the nut of the bass also rings out with similar loudness to the string between his finger and the bridge. it would sound pretty bad acoustically if he goes past the 5th fret or so.
So wonderfully musical and tasteful. Not only playing two voices on an instrument that technically can’t play two voices, but truly arranging the song with ambition and grace. So many people bury the melody.
If it technically couldn't play two voices he would be breaking the laws of physics. He isn't. The instrument has an infinite amount of possibilities and his talent should show that those possibilities are all accessible with time, energy, and passion.
Don't make it sound like Witchcraft - it's hard work and he rocks :)
@@alexeypiksaev3129 yes, an instrument should not know any limitations, if it is possible, do it
your limits in your brain... look he obviously doing what you say is impossible technically
It's so uncommon to be emotionally struck by just a bass, not due to the instrument and the limitations, but due to the limitations bassists placed on themselves due to the typical nature of the purpose of the instrument. This was beautiful. Would love more raw point and shoot videos like this of just jamming amongst the content.
That's such a beautiful melody. Some big, really important band should turn this into a song with lyrics.
I think Boyz II Men did it
It's a song called Yesterday by the Beatles. You should go check it if like this melody!
Nah, it's actually a song called Raining Blood by Slayer
@@jazzy_burrito You don't say!
@@jazzy_burrito ......
This man might be the biggest inspiration source for anyone who wants to play bass
Depends on what you're into
I grew up learning guitar, and would noodle around on a bass when my old band would get together and practice. Charles made me go out and get a 5 string bass and keep at it to get better. While I'm not fantastic at bass u have definitely improved.
@@LageUA-cam yes, but he demonstrates us a lot of bass techniques. Either metal or pop bassist can be inspired by him.
It depends on what you want to play. For me, it’s Ryan Martinie and Justin Chancellor. Fantastic bassists with their own unique style. I think the playing here is good for what it is, but it’s just not my thing and probably isn’t a realistic playing style for most bassists who play live.
He's more of a dream crusher. How can you be the best when someone like this random dude on youtube is in the way?
He's just straight flexin
This was beautiful. Stripping back all the layers of fancy editing and backing tracks, to leave us with pure talent and a wonderful rendition of a wonderful song. You have something special, Charles.
I think this might be just about the most beautiful rendition of "Yesterday" i have ever heard man. Great job.
Truly, truly, this is lovely inspiring and too short! Thank you, Charles for sharing.
You’re welcome and thank you!
Waaaaayyyyy too short!
something so calming about the pace of this video, no cutting or effects, just natural talent and music
With your fair looks, I imagine this is what an angel bassist looks like, and it's not hard to imagine that's where you came from to play like you do...
I defenitly prefer this kind of unedited videos, that's way better. Thanks for sharing
Please, more videos like this. Bass players often lose the understanding of the beauty in simplicity
Hey! Just wanted to thank you for all the inspiration. You’re pushing boundaries for all of us bassists out there, and I’m really grateful for that. Keep delivering those beautiful songs! Thank you so much!
This feels cosy, warm, and almost intimate. You've got enough skill to pull off bass as a truly solo instrument and that's freaking incredible.
Oh. My. God. Beautiful. I'm "collecting" covers of all Beatles songs from UA-cam to have a full Beatle discography of covers made by different people. This version of yours is going definitely to the "Help!" album. Cheers!
Hey, Charles - thanks for this! You do what you need to do to trend, but there's something so simple and serene about this. Moments like this are why a lot of us pick up instruments at home even if we never share our work. You're an inspiration 🫡
❤
Indeed bro
🫡
Nicely done. And unlike the Eagles , the two Beatles will be quite happy hearing this.
I like this much more than the videos with many cuts, now I can just focus on the music and you playing the instrument instead of not knowing where to watch.
Sounds amazingly good! I'd rather watch unedited sound.
I wondered if you would captivate me like usual without any editing trickery. Now this video is another one of my favorites. Your compositions are just way too good.
Always impressive
This guy is just too good😢
You’re apparently talented
I wish to be like you
He makes it look soooo easy, but this is literally one of the hardest things to do on the planet in terms of music... Brilliant as usual Charles 💪
Amazing like all ways
Whenever I think I need a 6-string bass to expand my horizons, I watch Charles play a 4-string and am reminded how much I have yet to accomplish with my 4-string.
You make me want to pick up my Bass everytime I watch you. So Inspiring
dude you are the best bass player i have ever seen, you should be the one with 10mill subs.
Mans plays the bass as if it was a piano
Wasn’t expecting to cry today! Thanks Charles! As always, your videos are just unbelievable…
It’s always so amazing and refreshing it is that Charles can take a beautiful song and make it evermore lovely.
This was very moving. I can just see a whole packed out audience just pitch silent with a few seconds of silence after the piece had finished. Then eruption of applause!
Edited or not u never fail to deliver AMAZING plays!
Yes. Nobody would have thought that you don't know the classics, but hearing you play it is wonderful!
Thanks for sharing your music with us, Charles!
Congratulations, that was absolutely fantastic and amazing. Definitely very soulful. It's amazing how you're able to make that sound given that you only had a 4 string bass.
Amazing video, Charles! 😎 Can you play all your basses in a unedited version? Fretless, accoustic and your 12-string just to mention some of them? Please!!!!!❤ That would be mindblowing.
Charles you are a gift to the world, a truely talented person.
Another astonishing example of your talent. Beautifully done.
Gorgeous rendition @CharlesBerthoud! Fantastic, simple (and I don't mean the technique; just the no edits, raw cut), rich and full of feeling. Love it!
Love how he can make any song sound so majestic. Beautiful bro, just beautiful
Yesterday - such a perfect song. I loved your version. I love this song.
This is instantly one of my favorites on this channel, what a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song ❤️
Oh WOW that sounds incredible!!
Cool to see!!
Blows my mind how anyone can even remember to play stuff like that. Skill is one thing - ingraining that in your head takes time, patience
Pfft what a show-off...and I am loving every second! Spectacular.
Just gorgeous playing, as always!
And still completely mind blowing. One of my favorite songs, too.
Pure magic! Thanks again, Charles, for giving us something worth listening to on the tube!
Amazing rendition of a beautiful classic.
One of my favorite songs, beautifully played 👍☘️
Amazing to see that just one angle shot is accurate like that 😮✨ Congrats, Charles ✨✨😊
CLEAN! I love all your usual post-production, but some times it's nice just to let the instrument speak alone. Well done!
Yesterday this song didn't bring a tear to my eye. Charles, the emotion you bring into the melody pulls at the heart strings! Thank you for all you do here! 🤙
Thank you for this. I don’t know what it is about your playing that stirs up emotions, but it’s beautiful. You create truly inspiring music.
Terrific stuff. Please put out more unedited videos like this, because as much as I enjoy your editing skills I appreciate these video formats more. It harkens back to an older time on UA-cam, one that I miss. haha
such beautiful skill displayed. You play from the soul and that's what makes you so amazing ! Much love Charles !
hearing it this way, I never realized how much of a "classical" vibe Yesterday has to it.
This is STUNNING!!!❤
As a fellow bass player, you've motivated me to start learning Tapping on Bass Guitar
One of the best arrangements and performance of this timeless and beautiful melody.
No words. Just a tear or two. Bravo.
its amazing how you inspire me to pickup my instrument... and throw it in the trash. Beautiful as ever Charles! keep it up!
Just takes time and practice. Persistence is key
Спасибо Чарлз! Прямо до слёз... Ты молодец!!!
Simple but smooth! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Simple, pure display of talent. The way you played yesterday was wistful and genuine. I like this kind of format!
I love how raw it sounds. All the sounds of the instrument and the strings. Simplicity is what's missing in modern audio engineering.
As a fellow bassist and the writer of this song, I really hope Paul sees this. This is absolutely brilliant.
Yes bro you wrote yesterday by the beatles complete legend you are
@@anapple9407this guy thinks he’s the shit, unbelievable
@@AZjunin To be fair, the original comment was a bit difficult to understand, grammatically, but yeah xD
Paul? Is this you?!
@@yona9798 Yeah, took me a moment to realize he meant "Paul wrote this" and not "I wrote this."
Beatles are universal. Great video Charles, beautiful playing as per usual.
Sounds so beautiful. Awesome piece!
What an amazing cover of such a beautiful song. One of my personal favorites from the Beatles. We can always count on you for beautiful covers and originals. Well done!
Charles, what a legend! The time and effort you must have put in to becoming this good a bass player is awe inspiring.
You are incredibly skilled!!! So much hard work, dedication, time and talent - thank you for sharing your art with us!
Everything you play is excellent Charles. I'm constantly blown away by everything you do
It is a blessing that I am grateful for every day, to be able to hear this man play. Thank you for gifting our ears with this beautiful melody yet again.
Not all heros wear capes. Keep pushing man, your talent is incredible 👌 edit: just reading these comments, every single person commenting from what ive seen is bang on. You are an inspiration 👌
Very inspirational. I don't even own a bass right now but this makes me want to go buy one as soon I get the money, this looks fun, makes me want to play music again.
If at all possible I would love too see unedited versions of all of your covers along with the curated content. both equally inspiring and wonderful to watch for different reasons.
Much love for all you do ❤️
Thank you for such beautiful rendition of Yesterday... *tears in my eyes*
Who would think you could get this kind of sound from a bass guitar?? I really like how you made 'Yesterday' even more great!!!
Your style, tone and technique show endless hours of practice! You’re an inspiration in my musical journeys. Thanks for all the great music you share!
Wow, just brilliant and beautifully done
Charles this was a tear jerking performance I hope to be as good as you one day
play free bird
Very impressive how you play the lead and rhythm simultaneously. Really awesome.
Playing the bass like a piano... a new goal has been set for me today
First 😃
👏🏻🥇
Charles, you just keep getting better and better. Much respect for playing 'Yesterday' and so eloquently with the bass tapping would have made a nice solo part on the original.
Wow! that was a minute and a half of pure bliss...if I ever feel stressed out I am just going to put this video on loop....Beautiful!
Such beautiful sound! Thank you!
This is such a beatiful melody. You sir are an artist.
Yo my man, thanks for sharing! Your interpretation, execution, and most importantly, soulful honesty were absolutely amazing! I couldn’t stop replaying the video!
A *real* person plying a *real* song on a *real * instrument … priceless🤘🏻🤘🏻
Such a beautiful arrangement!
