Day-um! That metal flake/grip tape... wow! Another good one in the books. It's always kick-ass to see how you work in the 3D elements. Even painting in the elastomer on the truck adds 3-dimensionality. Hey, it's a perfectly cromulent word!

Thanks Velo! Your going to have to slow down on those $10 words man! Haha just kidding thanks for watching and great usage of cromulent!

Great job Gordon, as always I love those layers of wood stacked over like for the truck on this one, it gives depth, as well as your precise painting lines. Some things just look better broken 😉
(that kickflip at the end man... cool)

I Love the layers too and it's always a little nerve racking breaking a painting, haha! Kick flips are about the only trick I have left anymore 👴

Loving the content. I would love to hear you give commentary on the majority of the video, which you’ve done more of in this video. Tips and techniques about how you’re applying the finishes, and why, etc. Why did you spray clear before the metallic? How did you make the metallic flat like grip tape? How do you smother the spray tip to get splatter effects? Which tips are you switching out to for spray patterns? I really enjoy that type of detail, because I’m learning something as well as watching the process.
Of course, I’ve been making my own signs as garage art for myself after watching your channel. It’s much harder than you make it look, and I should resign myself to ordering from your site instead. Lol.
Keep it up, and please, try better next time!

I hear you Robert! That is something I'm really trying to incorporate more of as it comes up with each project.
I'll do my best to answer the questions you asked here.
I like to hit my tape areas with clear so that it creates a seal over the tape and helps prevent the color coat from seeping underneath the tape. Just remember to peal the tape before the paint completely dries so it doesn't peel the paint with it.
In the end I shot a clear coat over everything to help uniform the Sheen's of all the paints. In return that flattened out the grip tape texture some. I like to use a water based satin clear on my projects because of how many different types of paint I use, it seems to just coat over everything without any ill effect. But that's not a guarantee 😆
The splatter effect I do, is really something I've adopted as my style. I know I'm not the only one to do it, but I love the look and it adds so much more complexity to the piece.
You have to practice it, but you push down on the tip off center and with minimal pressure and it makes the can spit the paint instead of spray. And you kind of just have to be ready to accept what comes out because the control is minimal.
I use stock caps, nothing special there.
I'm glad you're doing your own stuff and learning, and I hope some of this helps. And I'll try better next time 😉

Iron Gordon - Art Interesting that you don’t switch paint can tips. That’s the only trick I know how to use. And I make a lot of shape stencils as a I go so I can control where the paint ends up. I like the splatter effect, and I tried it today. Might be a lot easier than when I block the spray pattern with my (gloved) finger.
I’m going to incorporate some of these tips into my work for sure. Thanks!

Well i just raided all your skate stuff and you have given me some cool ideas.
No , not going yo knock yours off but other stuff that can be done as my son is now learning to love skate boarding and im throwing him in the deep end ..... son you are learning to skate transition from the get go! Lol
We have been toying around with using some of my old decks to make shelves out of and making a coat rack out of some old trucks and replacing the handles on his bed side table out of some wheels i did not love.
But he is a stompper as he just learnt how to drop in about a month ago and if he dosent start landing on his hardware more, i foresee many busted decks about the place.
If he snaps his first deck, i may do this for real .
Thankfully he will not have a k mart pre built up on his wall forever though...lol.
It will be my old zero black and white OG single skull up there and thats something i think we both would enjoy still having hanging around the house..
    Love your style
Lots of lowbrow hot rod / tattoo culture going then you throw in skateing .
Im sold , i just hit subscribe ❤

Thank you all your comments are very kind and I’m glad to hear your son is becoming a little ripper! I have made a couple home decor pieces out of old skate decks and hardware. I have the first deck I ever snapped hanging up in my shop, it was an element brand. Good ol’ days! Good luck with all your projects 🤘

@@IronGordon maybe in the future you could do a peice on the bits you have made by up cycleing old skate gear in to useable art .
Out the back porch here i have all my dead helmets from back in the day when i skated derby as hanging pot planters .
Every one of them is a original piece of art as i customized each one befor their uses as a helmet.
This way i have an excuse to keep ( hord ) memory of days long past.
Very cool you still have your first snapped deck up in your shop , cool you still have it full stop.
In all my years of skating i have yet to have snapped a deck.
But im a wee little thing , id say i dont have the weight behind me do do any real damage.
But i tend to be retire decks when they get soggy feeling and lose their pop but i only keep any that are either plain out iconic or something special like a numbered pro deck with the aim of doing something with them as the graphics dont get to messed up as i run rails.
Have a few really cool ones hanging on the lounge room wall.
The rest have been handed down to either my nephews untill they got to a level that they where wanting to buy decks that suited their needs and now my kiddlet is gets the hand me downs.
But he choose his first deck out of my goodies collection.
I kind of cringed when he grabed the zero deck as ive had that one stashed since the 90s but the way im getting my head around it is, being his first deck and if he keeps it as a bit of a trophy once thrashed or smashed, well ... yeah ... its not a kmart deck that was his first love..
Numbered 7875.. yeah ... i cringed... lol and yeah im that old and still at it.. 🤘
Atm im trying to find the motivation to start sanding my new vert helmet befor i can start laying down some paint on it .
The prep is the killer as i just want to skip that part and get to the fun stuff.
Going traditional jap tattoo style on this with a white background and only black and red as the lines and shading.
Have had the sand paper and helmet sitting on the kitchen bench in my face for a week now to annoy me enough that i will end up spending a afternoon sanding this thing to get it out of my face... lol
This is how i implement ADHD productive strategies here. Lol
