So much history in one piece of art. Some kid did his first Ollie on one of those boards. Another escaped his fighting parents by skating on that board. Another skated to his best friend’s house and will someday be his best man. Every board has a story. And it’s great to keep the history alive.
dude these are so sick. I've been skating almost 30 years and this is the best recycled board crafting I've seen. I love how the brands are still recognizable even when cut up in pieces. the logos are seared in our heads
You know how its super satisfying to watch your cat do the full body stretch thing it does after a long nap...? Thats what its like watching wobs stretch after hours of repeated cuts.
Hey Ben, hello from Australia, we really enjoy watching your videos, you do a great job, educational and very entertaining especially the bandsaw and table saw incident, it happens to us all glad you showed it, keep up the great content.
greettins from brazil. man, the way you express all the efford you put in your work is just great! i mean, you know in advance you gonna spend hours and hours just to sand milions of small pieces, and yet you go for it, looking at us thinking "man, i must be stupid for starting this project". incredible. you are a truly artist. congrats. you are working your way up. just a matter of time till you reach absolutily greatness. please make more videos. thanks!
I just found your channel by a comment made from Get Hands Dirty and I LOVE your stuff! I really like how you used the bottoms of the boards instead of sanding it all off. Anyways thanks for the inspiration!
Baker, Baker, Baker! now that i got your attention. Id imagine that a lot of your viewers are wood workers and even skaters. That being said, it would be awesome to see you make some woodworking tools like push blocks/sticks or little jigs out of the boards. do it!
I love the sponsor angle, like it's obvious that you are all like "sweet! Cool stuff to help me make stuff better" and just send it without worrying about it too much.
WOW!!! You are incredibly gifted and talented. And as a mom, I wince every time I see you sawing these tiny little pieces. Amazing work as always!!!! Cheers from sunny Tampa, FL :-)
I didn't know Mirka made sanders, but I've used abranet for awhile now. It's amazing when you make pens (I used to make over 1000 a year...) and doesn't gum up. I love your expression when you see them finished - they really did turn out amazing. $550 seems kinda cheap though! :)
Question, now I don’t know much about woodwork, but you said you hate sanding. Would it be possible to use a sand blaster for the initial board sanding (after grip is removed)?
Great video! Wooo! Glad you showed all the mishaps. So easy to zone out esp. when spending so many hours with repetitious tasks. Those pieces are amazing! Beautiful. So much work! Mahalo for sharing! : ) P.S. Thanks Totalboat for supporting makers!
Those frames looked pretty cool when you had the masking tape on too! If you made that be a light-colored wood it would look super cool and save you 50% of the work making the skateboard patterns. In case you make more of these!
Man these are so good! Just an idea but would you do a print of these designs? A lot of people would likely love to own a print of these designs and would be more cost effective for some of us! Would be super sick and a good little maker for you too ✌🏻
These are impressive! The time and detail that goes into all your pieces, simply because of the material, is inspiring. Roughly speaking, how many of your total physical hours went into creating these. I was trying to work it out as it is definitely over multiple days (day 1 select and prep, day 2 prep etc)
Hello, I am writing to you from Mendoza Argentina. land of the sun and good wine. I love what you do and the good endings of the work. Thank you so much for sharing it. Cristian from Mendoza. A hug.
Contemporarily explosive craft... You should manufacture a heat gun nozzle that 20cm by 1.7cm and then mount that thing on a programmable CnC style gig for the grip-tape..
Uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhmsweeeeeet. So much work yet so very worth it! Thanks for sharing - excellent work. And by the way ... you should know that you are exactly that good. Cheers! Be safe! JM
I'm curious, would broken snow boards present you with the same material? Would they provide different options for you? Not sure how close you are to a ski area? But just a thought... These are awesome, glad you are staying safe.
*Imagine layering it up in resin. Like a few scattering pieces are in different layers of resin. So 1st layer - resin / 2nd layer - resin / 3rd layer resin. the pieces get lesser and lesser as it reaches the top, it gives that 3d effect. shit load of resin thou but That would be cool.*
holy fuck could you imagine the pain of trying to perfectly line those pieces up, first off the perspective plus having 2 eyes means you'd have to probably squint while moving your head around like a owl to line them up perfectly, not to mention the multiple layered micro infractions that would be happening throughout the piece distorting the placements in different ways which ever way you looked at it, all that while also trying the keep the layers clean smooth and 100% flat at all times... damn boi you asking for too much, you've got good taste ill give you that but damn boi, just damn!
@@ryankean9501 *You can go fucking insane tbh. But one solution he can do to align those pieces on top of each other is to place a piece of clear 'cured' resin ( Same Shape ) in between the 1st layer and the 2nd layer. So you don't have to eyeball that shit perfectly you just have to follow the clear resin below it. So when you pour the shit ton of resin over the 2nd layer to finalize it, that piece of resin in between those pieces will turn invisible because of the resin and resin come in contact. That way you can make it fucking pop out. I mean what do I know this is just a fucking idea hahaha. Pls Check this guy out if you have the time* ua-cam.com/video/PeNtTUnfa_g/v-deo.html
Ben, You hit it out of the park my friend! (Like Always) I love to see what you have come up with next. Have you figured out with Izzy your tape removal system yet? Thanks for sharing, Felix
To make your life easier with the grip tape, you should buy a cheapie second hand domestic oven, then just heat them up for 30 minutes prior to when you need them, the grip tape should just come off, and you don't need to stuff around with the heat gun.

That glass-like finish is just outstanding. I love repetitive geometric patterns like this. These turned out beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

The one with all the graphics at the bottom is really dope! A lot of history behind it.

Killer edit, killer use of our Table Top and Halcyon and oh man, you so so funny, too! That's what she said!
I love the sponsor angle, like it's obvious that you are all like "sweet! Cool stuff to help me make stuff better" and just send it without worrying about it too much.
The finish is gorgeous. Beautiful job.
I never thought I'd see SOLID WOOD in YOUR shop
These are seriously incredible looking.
The extension for your saw looks sick
WOW!!! You are incredibly gifted and talented. And as a mom, I wince every time I see you sawing these tiny little pieces. Amazing work as always!!!! Cheers from sunny Tampa, FL :-)

Man, that is truly art work and so colourful, Great Job! as always

Do you spend more time prepping the skateboards for use or constructing the piece?
Nice choice, I love my Mirka Deros!

I'm from Scotland but was in Mendoza in 2007 loved it, beautiful place.
Well you will know what I tell you, Mendoza is wonderful, thanks for your videos and I look forward to the next videos. bye genius.👍😃
Nota 10 muito bom seu trabalho!!
quick tip messing with epoxy, get a vacuum chamber and vacuum out the bubbles before pouring. makes for almost 0 bubbles.
Do you plan on making anything from the grip tape?
Your work is totally awesome. Keep up the great work.
Effin love your stuff mate ...just ...yeah - so good
Carak ficou maravilhoso 😍. Perfeito, belíssimo trabalho.
Contemporarily explosive craft...

If I had steady supply, I wouldn’t mind taking a tackle at it
What about making a surfboard out of skateboards? That would be so rad.
My wife keeps telling me to do that too! One day.. but not any day soon!

Nice!
Have you ever thought of a project that you could use all your grip tape scraps for? Maybe even reuse it as sub par sandpaper?
Ben: "This is the Mirka"
My brain: "MIRKAAAA! F*CK YEAH!"
Raahhh these are seriously beautiful, amazing work, I was going buy one but they sold out so soon!!!
Damn that epoxy gave an amazing gloss!!
cool cool cool cool
You should charge more for your art. $550 each is a steal. ;) My favorite is the bottom graphic rectangle tiled one. Nice job!
Ever consider what you could make with the griptape?
no one has
5:28 You love us. Yeah, we know it. 😁
