I want to add a gravel drive and parking area from my existing drive to my back garage, about 200" long and 12" wide, till it opens up by the garage at about 18' wide. I'm using railroad ties as a border. Do you see any issues with simply cutting the grass as low as possible (scalping it), then spraying with grass killer, covered with landscaping fabric and then gravel? Drainage is great in the area and not a concern.
Looking to do this myself but have NO experience. How long will a parking pad like this last? We live in the PNW so lots of rain and snow. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
GOOD JOB HANK! I COULDA USED BRUTUS WHEN I DID MINE... ONE GOOD THING I DID MINE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS... WELL HANK YOU TAKE IT EASY...WE'LL LOOK FOR YOU TUESDAY, OVER AT TONYS, TAKE CARE... PEACE...
Thats a very useful tip there Hank. The only problem i will have is finding a dump truck around here when im at lol. Everything else wouldnt be much to get.
Nice video. I'm getting ready to so the same thing. Question....did you compact the gravel after completion...and do you have a video with the camper parked on it?
Yes and no. I compacted it by running over a hundred times with my tractor. You can rent a vibratory roller pretty cheap. I don't have a video of the camper on it, specifically. But there are several videos with it in the background of the video
Haha when he started dropping that rock first thing I thought was where's the cardboard so I thought maybe you were just pulling our legs about putting down cardboard. I've never heard of that before won't it just rot away?
@@HamiltonvilleFarm going to have to try that I've often used carpet in the past but that tends to act as a home for Critters of all kinds I'm thinking your method may be the way to go since the cardboard will eventually deteriorate but stay there long enough to kill the weeds. Hmm!

I don't know what's going to happen since you disturbed the soil and now mixed it with the gravel but weed seeds take no prisoners, they'll grow on top of rocks and through.
What makes someone create a "How To" video when they never did it before? Maybe I'll make a YT video on a heart transplant this week. Will you be my patient?
Everything is easier when you have a tractor! You Are Blessed!

Super helpful video!! Thanks for sharing all the steps!
That swarm of bees does some fine camera work.

Thanks Paul. See ya buddy
How many yards of gravel was that? Thanks!
What exactly is the gravel you used called when you order it? I assume there are different materials and chunk sizes.
We just ask for crushed granite for a driveway/parking pad and the quarry knows what we mean. Not sure of the technical name
1 inch minus
What type of gravel did you use?
The drone noises make it hard for me to focus but thanks for the share.
Approx total cost for everything needed? Obviously, you already have some equipment already.
Thats a very useful tip there Hank. The only problem i will have is finding a dump truck around here when im at lol. Everything else wouldnt be much to get.
Lol. Thanks for watching Alan 👍
@@HamiltonvilleFarm Not a problem. I love the content man. Its me of when i was growing up and stuff i have already done.
So easy lol. Not everyone has toys like you.
About how many tons of crushed granite did you purchase? Great video by the way.
about 16 cubic yards...one dump truck load. I think that is about what they carry. Thanks for the kind words.
@@HamiltonvilleFarm wow thanks for the quick reply.
Florida is #1 in America for humidity!!!
Lol that’s probably true. It’s gets miserable sometimes
I would by far prefer those 1 x 1 square patio blocks which are far more friendly to walk on and still allow for drainage.
what kind of gravel is that i am sorry i missed it

@5:29...NOOOOOOO!

Haha when he started dropping that rock first thing I thought was where's the cardboard so I thought maybe you were just pulling our legs about putting down cardboard. I've never heard of that before won't it just rot away?
Yes eventually but it makes a great weed barrier

Heyhey Hank. Did you finally put the cardboard down or did you forget again? I didn't see it. Nice job
I talk about it in the video Mike👍
@@HamiltonvilleFarm I thought you said you were moving the gravel to one side then was gonna put it down. Maybe I missed it. I will watch it again
When the dump truck came I got so excited. I was trying to work the drone and do the camera and forgot about the cardboard😳😂

How much did the gravel cost you just curious
I think the truckload delivered was $1100. That's for 19 cubic yards (if my memory serves me correctly)
Hot summer day?!
We had snow yesterday- this is autumn. Orange leafs and everything😂.
It was filmed a long time ago 😊

LMC box blade???
It was filmed a long time ago. LMC doesn't hold a candle to Homestead
How much does it cost for a truck load of gravel?
I want to say it was $1200. This was filmed a long time ago and I can remember that far back. But it was in that price range I do believe
Enjoyed this video Hank. Very interesting and informative.
Thank you Terry. It's a different project for us.
Nice! But isnt cardboard decomposeable
Nice pad. I learned my lesson not using fabric. Lost quite a bit.
I hear ya. Thanks brother 👍
How much gravel was that for the RV pad?
About 9 cubic yards if I recall
If I may ask, Did you forget to lay down the cardboard?
I talk about it in the video👍
Ok my apologies

Cardboard when wet is candy for termites.
Ooooooh I just need a100000 tracker

Sounds like your being filmed by a swarm of bees 🐝 😂
Are you putting us in a parking pad for when we come see y’all?
Of course😊
I used slag instead of gravel
Right on.
That is sand not too much organics but its all weathering by-products

4 Easy Steps:
Step #1 - Buy a loader / excavator
Howboutcha. I always call those dumpers out there ‘chunky monkeys’. Every time I see them when out there, no idea why, but seems to fit lol 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Lol
The drone sounds live a hive of angry bees!
Lol. Sure does
Scoop,, dig,, rip, till,, smooth ,rake,, level,, and compact,,ta data , : ), thumbs up
Thanks for watching 👍
cardboard will break down in time which will help feed the plants
👍
I can't believe you forgot the cardboard, that's a knucklehead move there and just funny...lol
yeah for sure😫
@@HamiltonvilleFarm I know you just had a laugh at yourself, happens to the best of us.
That mosquito in the beginning sounded huge. Nicely done 👍
LOL
I don't know what's going to happen since you disturbed the soil and now mixed it with the gravel but weed seeds take no prisoners, they'll grow on top of rocks and through.

It's ok. I'm UA-cam certified.
There is nothing easy about this pad without a tractor and hauling trailer and lots of money !

Thanks for watching 👍
LOL I noticed the cardboard wasn't down when he dumped the gravel. OOPS !!!
Thats twice you mentioned putting cardboard down and didn't do it.
Yeah totally forgot...the truck came before I got prepared. Messed that one up! 😂
I guess it's noise from the Drone but it sounds like there's giant mosquitoes flying around ha ha I wanted to swat
Lol. Probably
I thought you were putting cardboard under gravel.
I totally forgot in the moment!!!
How about that, you found a project to use almost ALL your implements, : )
Thanks for watching 👍
