Think of Sends like Wet/Dry knob and your return track as your VST. You can send all your tracks through the VST without loading up multiple instances. Saves you CPU like a Mofo
The typical practice would be to turn the actual Wet/Dry on the Return track to 100% wet and adjust using your sends.

Awesome video. I use Ableton to run the whole band. I have a bass player, drummer, keyboard player, and vocalist. Me being the keyboard player/Sound guy, I mix everything off the main headphone out. I basically hear what the audience hears. I Three separate mixes for the drummer, vocalist, and bass player, and everything sounds beautiful!!!

hai, if i use the audio effects in your way at the right side (where it says reverb etc) what is the use of using an audio effect directly down under at the instrument (so i draw the effect with my mouse right near the instrument in the simpler (i think you call it that?).

Hello! Thanks for the video! I have one question:
You are about to record some vocals and you have some vocal tracks (lead vocals and vocal layers) that require the same default plugins to get started. For example, you might have a standardized plugin chain like EQ, DeEsser, Compressor, Saturator, Reverb and Delay with default settings for every vocal track you produce.
To save CPU, instead of inserting this plugin chain in each vocal track, people usually suggest using a Return track and inserting the plugin chain there. Then, it's advised to increase the Send level of the vocal tracks to let the audio pass through the Return track and then to the Master.
However, unless the output of the vocal tracks changes from Master to Send Only, you will have double audio going through the master (the audio from the vocal tracks and the return track).
You could also group the vocals and send them to the return track, which leads to the same issue but with less flexibility in the individual tracks.
My question is what is the best practice in the above example, considering the need for further effects per track down the road, as well as gain staging and mixing overall?
    Thank you!

    Hi LNA!
I'm starting in Ableton as a live keyboard player here in Spain but am finding it difficult to get my head around it... I'm very willing to learn because it seems extremely flexible.
I've got the gist of chain selector to select different instruments on a same track but i can't seem to find a way to send different A/B sends chained to each sound on a track.
The idea is to have just one ambient verb on A/B return so i can send different amounts depending on the instrument on each track.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you in advance

If I need to turn down my mix do I also turn down the sends and returns? I have a mix without drums going in parallel compression and don’t really understand how to turn it down, or if I need to. What effect etc.. should be post and which ones pre? It’s seems parallel compressions is pre, but much confusion. I tried to connect on your web page but it doesn’t work. Thanks 🙏
