- In this video, I show you how to replace the auxiliary stop/start battery which lies in front of the main battery, under the front passenger seat. A little tricky to access, and not as bright under there as it looks in the video!

Had the same error message, Autozone was out of batteries, found one at Oreillys, changed out the pins and replaced the Aux battery following the video's instructions, Error code disappeared immediately. Thank you very much!! A+++++

First I want to say thank you for creating this video tutorial. You saved me $150 dollars. Sorry for the long write up. Hopefully this will help others.
I managed to remove the auxiliary battery from my wife's 2018 GC Laredo. It was the factory battery model 560297 AB 12V 12Ah 200 CCA (SAE/EN) MFG. for FCA US LLC, 1000 Chrysler Dr., Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Made in the USA with US and imporied materials.
No English instructions; everything was in Portuguese. I found the same replacement battery at Batteries Plus for $99.99. Before driving to the shop, I disconnected the battery first and drove batteries plus. I wanted to compare the old and the new to make sure it was the same. Everything looked good. At Batteries Plus, I installed the battery and noticed the horn sound went off two times.
I drove off and noticed that the yellow A with the circle turned on. The guy said drive it for about 10 minutes; it should go away. I drove for 30 minutes and had no luck.
Back home, I saw your video again. I noticed that you removed the negative terminal from the main battery. I disconnected the negative terminal, and I also disconnected the auxiliary terminals. I waited 15 minutes and followed your video instructions. I connected the auxiliary positive terminal, then I connected the negative main terminal, and lastly the negative auxiliary terminal. I turned the Jeep on, and the light was GONE!

had the same issue i had to go to O'riellys $149.00 flat with military discount. it took me 15 mins to swap it out. i used the same top posts from the old battery. the light turned off. thank you for this Video

Thank you for your video. Couple comments for others - I was able to unscrew and transfer over the terminal posts on the Aux battery using a 5/32rd wrench socket. So a female torx (smaller than E8, that's all I had on hand, and it was too big) is not needed. The posts come out quite easy, and even if the top part gets slight damage it does not make contact with the nut so I do not see how this could hurt the post/terminal/battery. 2nd comment, my main negative terminal post connector (main battery, not Aux) was difficult to remove. A screwdriver can be used to pry open the side of the clamp to make it easier to remove. 3rd comment, there is a plate underneath the Aux battery that needs to be removed to pull out the main battery. There are two nuts that are hard to see that hold the plate down, but take a deep socket 13mm (or 1/2"). 4th the main battery can be pulled out more easily by tipping it towards its side. 5th, I used a small 12V ice fishing battery (and booster cables) to maintain the car memory (positive and negative posts on paasenger side of engine bay). With both batteries out of the car, the ice fishing battery was still running the interior lights.

Your tips were very helpful, thank you. I'd say a 13mm deep socket and 4" extension would be best. I tried a 13mm deep and 2" extension and it still wasn't long enough.

Thank you! The most difficult part was getting the last part of the cover off, it didn't want to let go! And running around to find the correct battery, but that was my fault for not following your link in the first place.

And is it typically just the six battery that needs to be replaced when the car won’t turn over ??? Or could it be the bigger batter next to it???
@zzz1945 - Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! The warning light 'should' go away once you have the new battery hooked up - but obviously I can't guarantee that, if your vehicle has any other issues, but it 'should' go away.
And I changed BOTH batteries, I changed the main battery the day before, and then I replaced this one the following day. They were both over 3 years old, so I decided to replace them both at the same time. Hope that helps!
Very straightforward and instructional video for those seeking to replace the auxiliary battery - nicely done. That said, I can't stand the ESS and last time I checked there was no defeat module available for the 2018 model. However, I recently noticed the ESS was no longer functioning. That being a benefit, not a drawback, in my opinion, I did not seek out the cause. However, I later figured it out after noticing the message center displaying "Start/Stop Not Ready, Auxiliary Battery Low". So now I'm wondering if there's any harm to removing the aux battery altogether as a way to permanently disable the ESS. Everything else seems to be functioning normally.
I agree, mine eventually stopped displaying the "start/stop notice" so now I'm fine with it not working and it doesnt ever bother me with the notification lol.

I looked into the module to deactivate ESS and you’re right, there’s something about the 2018 models, especially the Altitude model that isn’t compatible with the modules. Never did find a work around aside from disconnecting the AUX battery but then you have the ESS light on the dash constantly.

@pubite11 - I didn't have to reset any codes at all, not even the radio. There's a short term battery that keeps these settings. You should be able to replace and then be good to go! Good luck!

My dealer is charging 347
We have the 2018 Grand Cherokee Overland CRD. I suspect that the aux battery is on the way out and may need changing as it is now just over 6 years old. If I measure across the terminals of the main battery, it shows 12v or slightly less. If I measure across the aux battery. it reads exactly the same. My big concern is changing the battery and then losing all the settings and then having to go to a dealer to reset. We are in the UK.
Hey @iank6273 - thanks for the question. As you can tell from the video, I’m British too, just happen to live in the USA, so this was a US spec Grand Cherokee.
The day before recording this video, I actually switched out the main battery. At the time, both batteries were 3 years old and here in Texas with the heat, you can expect a battery to last about 3 years.
When switching out the main battery, I had no issues with the Jeep remembering the settings and then again the following day, replacing the auxiliary battery, no issues with the memory settings.
I believe there is a small rechargeable battery somewhere that saves that information while the battery is being changed. You shouldn’t have to go to the dealership at all. Hope that helps and thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

I was planning to trickle charge the auxiliary battery ONLY and for that, disconnect (+) and (-) from it
@xbleriot - That is what was recommended to me when I purchased the main battery the day before by AutoZone. So when recording this for the AUX battery video, I went through the same process. It's to minimize the chance of a short circuit of the battery, and in this case, batteries, being as there are two of them in close proximity. So, I was in a pinch when I recorded the video, I ended up taking it back to Autozone and had them transfer the pins for me. However, after the fact I purchased a set of female torx bits. These are the ones I ordered: amzn.to/3NcSDnl
What does vent hose do? In just found out mine was disconnect for a while
@ArkenAvan - the vent tube is there to vent any dangerous gases out of the battery and away from the vehicle so they aren’t built up under the passenger seat. The gasses that batteries give off is both toxic and flammable, so good that you caught it and hopefully reattached the vent tube! Hope that answered your question. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the excellent video. You did not mention whether, after disconnecting both batteries, you had to redo ll of the preference settings for time, radio, navigation system, seat position, etc. If no, was that because you attached a memory saver battery or power supply? If yes, would the resets be avoided if the main battery was not disconnected? Thanks.
Hi George, thanks for the great feedback and glad you found the video useful. I didn’t have any issues at all, everything remained just fine. I had replaced the main battery the day before this video and again had no issues. No memory saver or anything like that. Just changed the battery and all was fine.
Walmart wont touch my vehicle because its under the seat and because its AMG he said about the memory saver and they need a battery saver that basically charges the old one while installing the new one so nothing gets fried or nothing deletes is that true ???? Please help asap.

@virginislandsempress8497 - Yes, I would recommend switching out the AUX battery, at least for peace of mind. Once it's changed, if the light goes away, great, if not, then you have something else going on, but at least you have a new battery in place that will be good for at least 36 months. Great video with instructions. Quick questions, I want to replace both batteries. Is it okay if I disconnect and remove both at the same time? Do you recommend swapping the main battery first and then aux? I assume I don’t have to disconnect aux to be able to remove the main battery. Appreciate your help
You’re welcome, glad you found the video useful! That is exactly what I did, I replaced the main battery the day before I did this AUX battery. And actually you have to remove the AUX battery to get to the main battery so it benefits you to do them both at the same time. I ended up with double the work, so yes, do them both at the same time! @jaeshungrier9278 - In some cases it does, in others you may need to drive 30-40 miles for it to get a good cycle through it and then it will go away. You may need to double check the connection of the negative terminal as well, that has the control module for the start/stop system on it. If that is loose, the light will still be on too. @sergiocedeno6488 - For speed of execution, I actually took it back to AutoZone and had them remove and replace the pins. All you need is a set of female torx bits. I subsequently ordered a set and this is them:

I replaced with new main and auxiliary battery on my 2018 jeep grand cherokee, however the auto start/stop still not working, would I need to replace the battery sensor as well?
To be honest I am not sure. You may have a faulty Start Stop switch in the dash.
Did you reconnect the Start Stop sensor on the battery firmly too? If it’s not connected fully it will give an error.
And did you disconnect and reconnect the battery in the same order as the video, as it can cause problems if you don’t.
Do we really need to go for an OEM battery or any standard one will do the job?
No, absolutely not. I replaced my main battery and then the AUX battery with Duralast batteries from Autozone. There is no reason that you have to stick with the OEM battery at all. Hope that helps.

What issue would indicate the start/stop function not working to know it was that battery and not the main one?
Some of your accessories or functions may stop working, you may have an AUX battery light illuminate on your dash, or you car simply won’t start/stop.
In my case I changed it out because the day before I changed out the main battery and wanted to make sure they both had the same shelf life. Hope that helps.
What was the socket size for the restraining strap?!

When you disconnect the one main battery do you not loose all the memory / radio security details?
It’s been a while since I changed out this battery, but if memory serves me right, I didn’t lose the settings at all when disconnecting the battery. I believe there is a back up battery in the head unit that keeps those small memory pieces intact.
My start/stop wasnt working so i replaced the batteries now i get a low voltage message despite the new batteries. Even swapped out thenlow voltage sensor and still get the same message
Sorry to hear that. I am not sure what would cause that. The only thing I can think of is to double check the tightness of the connections. I also do recall that you had to remove the terminals in the same order as the video and put them back in the same order as the video. That might help. You may have an alternator issue, if you are still getting a low voltage message. Or maybe there is an issue with your Start Stop switch itself, maybe someone disabled it from behind? (that answer assumes you are not the original owner). That's about all the advice I've got. Hope it helps.
What do you do if your vent hose is too small and keeps falling out of the new auxiliary battery
Hey @jwdibbs71 - I can think of 3 options:
1) Cut off the portion that you are putting in the new battery, it may have been crushed from the old battery and not fit snugly.
2) You could wrap electrical tape around that end to make it slightly thicker and then insert it into the new battery
3) You could purchase a new piece of hose for the new battery.

Question about the two studs you transferred over to new auxiliary battery. Is that a regular socket or torx? Great video.
The two studs used a female torx to remove them. I didn’t have any at the time, so took the battery back to AutoZone and they removed them for me. I have since then purchased female torx bits!
They are called E sockets as in External torx@@CUPRADESIGN

Hey Ben, thanks for the question, unfortunately, I can’t help you, I don’t know where the radio fuse you are looking for and I actually don’t have the Grand Cherokee anymore, traded it in on a 2023 Camaro SS Convertible!
If i never use the Start-Stop, can i simply do without the Aux battery and just toss it???
So, I am no engineer or electrician, take my comment with a pinch of salt. Technically you could run without the battery, but the battery doesn’t only just run the auto stop start. It also helps power other accessories in the vehicle.
Also, you would end up with a constant light on the dash that the auto start stop was malfunctioning. The Aux battery is only $99 at Auto Zone. So it’s totally up to you. Hope that helps.
So my wife's 2017 jeep grand cherokee battery needs replaced I noticed when starting her vehicle it's starting to have a hard time kicking over to start signs of battery going bad only question is should I change the bigger main battery or is it the smaller battery causing this, batteries are original oem they have lasted 5 years or change out both of them
At the time I made this video, I had changed out the main battery the day before. They were both the OEM batteries, both 4 years old. It is recommended that you change out both batteries at the same time, so that you can maintain optimal use, and keep the date codes of the batteries close to each other.
The age of the batteries is key to this decision for you. Also consider your starter motor and your alternator as well. Hope that helps.
How did you transfer the pins on the battery terminal
At the time, I had to take the batteries to Autozone and have them swap over the pins as I didn’t have female torx bits, subsequently I’ve purchased female torx bits.

@bent8131 - It’s been a while for sure, and unfortunately I don’t have the vehicle any more to be able to confirm for you, but as I recall, I don’t believe there was any difference in tension on the strap that held the battery in place. I think it held just the same. At 3:25 in the video I show the cover back on the battery and I don’t see it being loose there, or any looser than it was originally. I recently bought a main battery for my jeep 2 months ago and bought the aux battery a few days ago. in trying to replace the aux, when starting up the car, it says "10 V" . I don't know if my main battery is now drained. We tried putting the old aux back in and it's the same results of a drained main battery.
That does sound like you might have another issue. Depending on the age of your Grand Cherokee, you may have an alternator issue that aided the need to replace your battery. Definitely worth having it checked out.

Did you have to use a memory box or could you just replace the batteries without any damage to the memory?
I simply replaced the batteries, no problem at all. No additional items were needed and had no issues once connected back up. Hope that helps.
My overland … was slowly dying and I changed her main battery . She didn’t crank nor click . After I changed her battery. When I realized it correlated with the start / stop function as it was not able to charge . Could it be my aux battery not letting her start ? Any ideas ?
That may definitely be the case, however, you may have an issue with your starter motor or your alternator potentially. Replacing the AUX battery is one of the cheaper fixes here, at only $100 or so. Mine wouldn't crank over at all or click when I had this issue, I did replace the main battery first and it did turn over after that. I chose to replace the AUX battery the following day to keep them both within the same time frame. Hope that helps.

Love the step by step instructions, my aux just went out 3 days ago I went and bought a new but when I attempted to replace it I notice the two pin screw where terminal is how did you get to transfer those two screws ?.

You may have other issues. If the Jeep won’t start period, it could be the main battery (not the aux - there are actually 2 batteries), it could be a bad starter motor, there could be an issue with your alternator. Hope that gives you something you can follow up with and troubleshoot.

how did you transfer the pins?? Also why didn't you mention the size of the retaining nut? I was half way through this and found out I needed to make a trip to the tool store to get the 10mm deep socket. Had to put everything back together again, used up most of my night.

At 3:40 I did mention that the nut for the retaining strap is a 10mm. As for the battery terminal pins, I had to use a female torx bit to remove the pins and transfer them over. Hope that helps.

I used a drill and tightened it around the pins then put it in reverse. Hope this helps.
How did you know you needed to replace the battery? I have the auto start/stop warning light on. Same for you or something different??
So, I went out one night and the Jeep drove just fine. I went to start it the following morning and it was completely dead. Nothing. So I went and purchased a new battery and installed it. Did some more research and it was recommended to replace both batteries at the same time, so that’s what I did, replaced the Aux battery as well the following day.
That’s the reason I switched it out.
Not the ideal answer for your scenario unfortunately, but it is the reason I switched it out.
So I swapped the main battery since the the car didn't have enough juice to start. After replacing main battery still no power. Did yours start after replacing main battery without replacing the auxilary battery?

I didn't change the top post or pins as you did a few years back. Is the reason for changing the pins due to OEM products vs none OEM products or does it really matter?
@williamsmith151 - Great question, the reason for switching the pins over is because the new battery I picked up did NOT have the pins installed. I had to remove them from the OEM battery and insert them into the new battery. Took about 5 mins. Here's the kit I used, you need to have some female torx bits: amzn.to/3AG3ToN

How do you know its the aux battery when the start stop system warning light is in?
The AUX battery is the one that controls the accessories when the Start/Stop function is active, it keeps the accessories running when the engine turns off. It's a good rule of thumb to replace both batteries at the same time.

@@Michelle-gv3ry Apologies for not answering your question properly. Well, without testing anything, it's hard to determine what the issue is. You could go to Autozone and they will read the codes in the vehicle and they might be able to let you know.
That is what I did when I had the issue with my ESIM Module that failed in another one of my videos, I simply went to Autozone and they pointed out what the issue was.

As I recall on my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the message center says something along the lines of "Start/Stop Not Ready, Auxiliary Battery Low".

The Dodge Durango and the Jeep Grand Cherokee are essentially the same platform, so depending on the model, if it has the Auto Start/Stop feature, then I would assume that it does. It should be easy to slide your passenger seat forwards, lift up the plastic cover and see if there are two batteries in that space. But presumably, you will have an Aux battery under there. Good luck!
So I purchased a jeep 2016 there was a light with the letter A and a circle around it they had it looked at and said it was the small battery they replaced said the light letter A would go away after driving for while if that was even what caused it that’s what mechanic said it was do you know if the battery would cause that light it does say start stop unavailable??
Yes, the battery is one of the things that can cause that light. Ours was a 2018 and at the time I recorded this video, the battery was 3 years old and the batteries were in need of changing.
Now if you look at the connection for the AUX battery, there is also a controller that sends a signal about the start stop system. You can actually disconnect it and disable the start stop that way. So if there is any damage to that connector then that would throw the error as well.
What issues were you having that made you change the battery? I’m having an extended crank issue that only does it when I start the vehicle manually. Never does it with remote start.
The problem I had was that the night before, nothing was wrong at all with the Jeep. The following morning I went to start it up to go for inspection and it was completely dead. Went and changed the main battery and the following day decided to change the AUX battery as it’s advised to change them both at the same time. It was purely precautionary for the AUX battery.

Is it necessary to disconnect the main battery? Or can you just remove the auxiliary without touching the main to avoid deleting the memory?
In all honesty, I don’t have a good answer for you. In my research before tacking this, each application recommended disconnecting the main battery during this process. I personally had just replaced the main battery the day before replacing this auxiliary battery, so it wasn’t a concern for me. Wish I could give you a categorical answer, but my research had me disconnecting the main battery as well to do this.
While the main black lead is connected, touching anything metal on the car with the flopping around red loose lead will arc and blow fuses. To avoid that disconnect both black leads before any red ones.

Hi Amanda, our Grand Cherokee is the Altitude model, so only has a powered driver seat. The passenger seat is manually operated which means it can fold flat like that.

@oscarnadal1223 - When you replaced the battery, did you remove and reconnect the terminals in the same order as I showed? You need to make sure on the MAIN battery (not the AUX) that the controller module is attached (you'll see it on the negative terminal, it's like a 2" black box). If that is not connected properly, you will still get the 'A' symbol on the dash - leaving that disconnected is the cheat way to get around the 'A' system, but leaves the symbol on the dash. Also - there is a button on the dash, down low in the center that turns on and off the auto start stop, you may need to press that a couple of times to get the system to sync back up. Outside of that, you may have an issue that is still causing that to happen. Good luck.
How do you replace the pins!!!
At the time, I took the battery to Autozone and they transferred them over for me. However since that time, I purchased female torx bits to that I can switch them out again in the future if need be, by myself. Hope that helps.
Hi recently followed that step by step but unfortunately when i turned the truck back it was given my all kinds of lights on and it won’t fucntion properly. Do I need to take it to the dealer for a computer reset? Help!!!
I would slide the passenger seat forward, and check that nothing is causing it to arc at all. Check if you have any pinched wires. Check that you have the terminals tightened down and that one hasn’t come loose. Is the battery flat (horizontal) and tightened down properly. Did you reattach the vent tube?
I’m just spitballing here as it’s been over a year since I replaced it and haven’t had to recheck it since.

@@dawnhale7542 The vent hose is there to help any build up of gases from the battery escape. The vent hose shouldn't stop the vehicle from starting, however, if the vent hose isn't connected, then there is the chance of gasses building up and the potential for an explosion in extreme cases. Definitely worth checking out.
What happens if I don't put in the auxiliary battery?
@romangr17 - If you don't put in the AUX battery, your vehicle will still start and drive like normal. However, what you may encounter is some accessories may not function properly or not at all. Your Jeep also has a warning light on the dashboard that will illuminate when the battery is starting to fail or missing and will be constantly on.
Does this make the car sputter?
No, the Aux battery wouldn’t make the car sputter. That sounds like it’s more of a mechanical issue. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Sorry to hear that. So, as far as I know, the start/stop battery lasts about 4 years. So depending on the age of your vehicle, that could be a factor. However if your vehicle was ‘dead’, it’s more than likely it was your main battery.
When mine died, I replaced the main battery first and our Jeep fired right back up afterward doing so, so there was still charge in the Aux battery.
It is, however, recommended to replace the Aux start/stop battery at the same time so that you can keep track of it for your records, but also only have to be under the passenger seat once, especially as you have to remove the Aux battery first to get to the main battery. This information came from the Jeep dealership.
I paid $250 for the main battery and $100 for the Aux battery at Autozone (dealership wanted $900!). I changed them both myself at the same time (a day apart for me) for added piece of mind. Hope this helps and good luck.

So I took my 2019 grand Cherokee to jiffy lube for battery change absolutely nothing wrong with the jeep bought directly from the dealer wit 40,000 miles now it seem like those guys didn’t know what they were doing cause they seem a bit confused when I go to pick my jeep up it wouldn’t even turn on like literally nothing happens can’t turn it on for nothing in the world just all the lights in the jeep start blinking a lot was it the change of battery that caused the malfunction? Like they said the computer blew on it & im trying to figure out if their at fault for that cause there was absolutely nothing wrong wit my jeep when I brought it there now she’s completely dead don’t respond to anything
Woah, sorry to hear that. I’m no technician as I’ve mentioned a few times in my comments, but that sounds to me like an issue with Jiffy Lube, if the Jeep was working fine on the way in and now doesn’t work at all.
Did you have both batteries replaced at the same time or just the AUX battery? I replaced both of mine within a day of each other.
Excellent step by step instruction! You made replacement seem simple. I had my battery replaced recently and now my auto start/stop disable dash light stays on. Did they forget to connect something or do I need to "reset" something in my control panel?
Thank you, I appreciate it. So, as far as I am aware from the research I’ve done, the control module for the Start/Stop feature is on the negative terminal of the battery. You can technically disable the Start/Stop feature by disconnecting it, but it will leave that dash light on.
So yes, I would double check the connections to the AUX battery and make sure they are fully seated. I did NOT have to reset anything after replacing the battery.
And for frame of reference, I replaced the main battery the day before, without issue. So both batteries were new and didn’t have to be reset. Hope that helps.

I didn't need to use any kind of battery registration tool when replacing them. When scrolling through the vehicles information center, the battery information automatically populated, i.e. I was able to see the battery's status. I watched a few videos as well, and didn't see any that required the use of a battery registration tool. It's been a couple of months now since I replaced the batteries, and I've monitored the battery's charge status without issue. However, for your peace of mind, and if you have a battery registration tool, it wouldn't hurt to do it, but it's not something that I did at this time, nor had I heard of to be honest.

I have 2018 Jeep Laredo and was told by the dealership and auto parts stores the battery must be registered (updated) to the battery control module to prevent possible damage over time and may void warranty. After you mentioned it, I did a dig around online as well. The dealership wanted $900 to replace the two batteries, so I decided to do it myself instead for just a little over 1/3 of the price.
Same with my ESIM module replacement video. The dealership wanted $495 to replace that module. The part was $32 and I replaced it in 15 mins.

Yeah the Jeep dealership said it would be a minimum $150 labor, $280 for main battery and $145 for the auxiliary battery so I started looking for a replacement battery and found out about the registration requirement. It might not be necessary for 2018 models. Its good to know you haven't had any issues. Your video was good and will be helpful if I decide to chance it and replace the batteries myself. I will let you know if I find out any more about the registration requirements for 2018 Jeep.

This video was one of my first how to videos after deciding to start creating some content. One word of advice, I purchased the battery from Autozone, and the terminal pins in the auto start/stop battery don't come with the new battery, you have to transfer them over from the OEM one. That required a female torx bit. I ended up taking both batteries back to Autozone and have them transfer the terminal pins. After that, I purchased my own female torx set, for future use. Is it a 10 mm or 13 mm. It looks very small

Hey ‘sins’, great question! So in the video I mentioned that I took the battery back to AutoZone and had them do it for me. Subsequently, I needed to order some female torx bits. That’s all you need to be able to transfer the pins over. At the time I never realized that female torx bots were a thing, but they are. So now I have a set for the future. I wonder if a guy could just move the positive and negative wires from the Aux battery to the main battery and just get rid of the Aux battery all together.
So yes, technically, you can do as you describe - however - if you do, you will have the ‘A’ in a circle light on your dash for the stop start system not working, and also, if your battery dies, you won’t have access to anything (I don’t believe) as there will literally be no auxiliary power at all. The aux battery takes care of more than just the annoying start stop system.
Now take this info with a pinch of salt, I am NOT a mechanic, I merely pretend (poorly) to portray one on the internet.

I made it a habit to turn off the start/stop as soon as I start my grand Cherokee.
The aux battery strictly keeps everything going when ESS stops the engine. The first mod I did when I bought my WK2 was installing a Smart Stop Start module under the driver seat. It simply retains the last state of the ESS and Sport Mode switches so you don't have to keep turning it off. It's a little pricey but worth it in my opinion, especially if you turn it off all the time anyway. It connects in-line to an existing wiring harness so it takes as long to slide the seat back as it does to install it. I've had it in place for nearly 4 years now.
As Shane mentioned, the Aux battery keeps keeps accessories and computer alive when the ESS stops the engine. The size of the Aux battery is insufficient to provide cranking current to the starter motor anyway. It only is there to keep systems alive when the alternator is not producing anything.
Like you, we turn off the ESS every time we step into the vehicle. (That and the reverse park sensors when pulling out of the garage, as the Jeep wants to auto brake every single time, being a double garage but with two single doors!)

Why did you have to replace both this and the main battery? Reason I ask is my 2018 would not start and I needed a jump to get it going. Wondering if I need both or just main battery? Sounds like the aux does not have the power to start the vehicle if main is dead. Mine is the original battery so prob time to replace eh?
@@Patriotvb That is exactly the reason. Both batteries were 3.5 years old and it was recommended if you replace on, replace them both. So I did the main battery the day before which is why I found out I needed an Aux battery, so thought I would record the replacement of that one.
The Aux battery is essentially there as a back up battery, but runs some systems like the radio, infotainment, even the AC, but more importantly, the Auto Start/Stop system. It’s charged just like the main battery when driving.

I could only get the Aux-14 battery from my dealer and it had different fittings
I mentioned in the video that the pins in the AUX battery need to be switched over. You need a female torx bit to be able to replace the pins from the old battery to the new battery. I didn't record that part as I ended up having Autozone do that for me, but I did mention it.
Why please tell me why does it need to have a auxiliary battery?
I can only guess it's to relieve some of the strain off of the main battery with the constant stop/start process, but I asked the same question of myself when I started having a battery issue! Thankfully the auxiliary battery is only $99 to replace, vs the cost of the main battery.

I can understand 'some' logic with the aux battery, that gets used more often for the stop/start could wear out quicker, and can be replaced cheaply and not leave you stranded, as all you would really lose is the capability of the stop/start feature. I would be happier to not have the feature at all!

Now the Start/Stop dashboard warning light is permanently on.
I'm wondering if it's the auxiliary battery that's the problem.
Can't find the correct spec in the UK - the best I can find is Yuasa YTX14AH-BS 12V High Performance.
