    Marc,
It was great to hear my wife Alex got to meet you at Grand Ole RV while we were in town from Atlanta for a day trip for work. We were talking how awesome it would be to meet our RVing influencers and certainly you all are incredible influencers!!! We took your advise and got started with a high end Popup and are excited to journey with my wife, 3 children and dog and #4 in January. I was excited my wife got to talk with you and I certainly was bummed that by the time I got back to camp you all were on the road again! Thanks for your encouragement and may the Lord continue to bless you all on your journey to keep your daydream!
    Sincerely,
    Ryan M. From Woodstock, GA

I was a ford super duty guy for years. I had every generation of them until 2016 I switched to ram when I saw ford was not going to make a mega cab version for the 2017 redesign. We have a 40 toy hauler we drag cross country and my kid was very uncomfortable in the back seat of my 2012 f350. So I bought a 2016 ram 3500 srw 4x4 megacab diesel. And I will say it is the first truck I really don't want to get rid of. Normally I would be trading my truck in about now but I really like this ram. I will say my 6.7 ford felt like a hot rod driving it around, but my ram feels like a rig and tows like a freight train. But the only reason I left ford and went to ram was for reclining rear seats. We did just buy a 2019 f150 for my wife and it does have more room then my 2012 f350 did but my kid still prefers the megacab. So for now towing the mega cab works best for towing long distance.

    • @KVX21

Yup RAM 3500 Dually is the better choice.. Mega Cab is a Beauty!! I had a 2016 Mega cab dually diesel limited with the Aisiin transmission and absolute best truck out there.

Great review. I love my 2017 F450. I use the Ford add on camera for the trailer as well as their TPMS for my 5th wheel. I also recommend the Gator/Retrax roll-up bed cover. Rolls up into a smaller box than your flip style and I can see the hitch easily.

Great review Marc! If you remember, back on your stop from Alaska, we had coffee and a good chat, and you saw 'my' F450 King Ranch in Vancouver! Was great to meet you two, and you've come a long way in a short time, with having the cabin now, and the F450 & toy hauler, and I'm loving it! I've sold my F450 now, and moved on to a Diesel pusher, but truly miss my pickup, as this is the first time without a pickup truck since my early 20's! I found my truck to be super comfortable on long trips, and as you mentioned, the bells & whistles help big time. Cheers to you both, and be safe on your road trip of a lifetime! :)

I have a 2017 F450 equipped with the dual smart airbag system and the XL7500 airbags. When the system holds air (I’ve been plagued with leaks) I absolutely love it. There are two separate air compressors which automatically adjusts for uneven left to right leveling requirements. I haul a Lance 1172 truck camper and haul a trailer behind for the toys.
Love your rig and your family! Keep Your Daydream going. Let us know when you decide to downsize (you will once all the kids are gone). Truck camping is the way to go!

We looked at a white F450 Platinum Limited last night and loved it. We are gearing up for retirement here soon, and the F450 is our go to truck to pull anything we can find to pull. Right now it's looking like a River Stone Legacy 39FKTH. And Max, our 110 pound German Shepherd, has PLENTY of room back there in the back seat area with the back seats in the folded up position. Just a great unit, and what we need to get the job done. See you out there soon sir!!!

We considered a 450 from our 17 250 but found a same model year F350 Platinum with 9k miles. Walked out the door financing the same as the 250 so it worked out. The extra towing is going to be nice, now we need to find our new 5th wheel. Good truck and great video!

As far as gas tanks S&B make a 70 gallon that fits right in the stock location that my next upgrade for next camping season! Marc, I was a professional driver for nearly twenty years. Would you consider a visible piece of tape [set vertically] that acts as a visible guide when backing. Essentially the vertical reference is an extension of the king pin taped to the nose of your toyhauler. An additional piece of tape lies flat on your cover aligned with the neck [coupler point] and the two strips lined up in the rear view mirror or camera create one continuous line. Craig in Kansas

Great video, great couple, great trailer, awesome truck.
Wife and I just bought a Ruby Red 2019 F450, came out of a 17 F350. Loved the F350, but this F450 is amazing.
One thing though Mark, I noticed you went to a truck wash. Be very careful doing that. We just traded our 2013 Heartland Road Warrior that we loved because it started delaminating on every panel and every slide. Started doing this after we regularly took it to a truck wash.
We now have a 43' Jayco Pinnacle, but I still miss that Road Warrior.
Keep up the videos, they're great.

I have a 2019 f350 platinum and love it! Mine is a crew cab long bed dually as well.
One thing I wanted to mention that I think you would be interested in. Ok so the spot lights on the mirror are awesome, but unfortunately they turn off as soon as you hit like 3 or 5 mph. Well, no problem!...just do a quick UA-cam search for "2019 f350 mirror spot light modification." You will find several vids showing how to do the very simple modification and it is definitely something I recommend. Makes a big improvement! I turn them on as soon as I pull on to a dark road and I can see so much better, especially when I'm looking for a turn on a road that doesnt have any street lights. Great video

Great idea about the air bags on the new rig. In 2000 I purchased an F450 that I purchased from Frauhauff (the long freight trailer building company). They purchased the F450 directly from Ford as a cab and chasey, and then put a custom fiberglass towing bed on it, It was a bit of all-right. It had air bags and a switch on the dash that when turned on would raise the rear end and then when turned off would lower the rear end. It was really nice when hitching up or unhitching the fifth wheel. I found out later that Frauhauff had done this thinking that the RV tow vehicle bed industry was something to look into.

Nice review! One thing though, you commented that your 5th wheel hitch was more or less permanently mounted with the Ford puck system. The puck system is designed for easy removal. Remove two safety clips, rotate the locking arms 90 degrees, lift the hitch and remove. So easy.

Good looking F450. I love the color you got. Don't know if you know it's available, I got the F350 Dually with the camper package. Comes with the wide F450 front axle and fendors, and I got the 4:30 gears too, kinda wish I had opted for the 4:10s for a little better MPG. With the 6.7L engine we get, the torque and HP is more than enough for the 4:10s. The bonus is the price of tires of the 450 vs 350. I had a 2008 F450, now I have the F350. Tire prices are a little less and the tires are not as stiff. Love the camera system you opted for.
I found your VLOG at the end of season 1. Went back and watched them all. You give some great tips and still make a lot of rookie mistakes. It makes your show honest and fun to watch. Keep up the good work.

I love my 2017 f450 and yes the trim makes the price difference, I have a fully loaded platinum. Lol we also upgraded from a 37' travel trailer to a 2020 Keystone raptor toy hauler either a side deck and yes the bakflip mx4 does block the view but I installed the reese 20k gooseneck pin box from btbrv and I also use my headrest as a guide but it's so easy now. Can't wait to do our midwest tour. Wish you still had the setup, you covered everything I needed to know about travel trailer.

A tip to help you back onto your hitch, an assistant will make the job easy and will take no more than 2 minutes to complete. Get a piece of electricians tape (or other sticky tape) about 1 inch long, cut it into strips about the width of a matchstick, you'll need only three 1 inch long matchstick width pieces. When hooked up to the 5th wheel place one matchstick strip in the centre of the RV at the level of the rear view mirror. Then, sitting in the drivers seat, use the rear view mirror and get an assistant to place one strip on the inside of the rear window with you telling them where to place it so that it lines up exactly with the strip on the RV. Last, place one strip on the rear view mirror, again lining it up with the other two so that when you look in the mirror all strips are lined up and appear as one, thats it. Any time you back up if the three strips appear as one the pin and jaws are 100% aligned, no guessing.

I have 4:10 in my '17 F-350.. Previous truck ('16 F-350 w/max tow) did have the 4:30 gears and wide axle.. I do miss that. BUT - the F-450 now does not have the payload capacity I need. The camper I'm considering has a pin wt. of 5K, and the F-450 only has 5320# of payload. With full fuel and 2 adults, I'm overloaded. My current truck has payload capacity of 6300 or so.. So I have to keep my present truck. But the 2020 F-450 looks to be one helluva unit....just doesn't have the payload capacity.. Some newer car wash places now have dually capability.. Thank God.. You do a great job on your videos.. Thank you.

Did you have any issues finding insurance for your 450? Our insurance company (Allstate) which we've had over 30 years are telling us they will not insure the 450.. I called State Farm, their telling me they will not either. Our 350 is not an issue. Each of them is saying I need commercial insurance which is very expensive.. Have you experienced any of these issues?

    • @justinotherig
      @justinotherig 3 роки тому +1

@@Dominator70 No trouble at all. We have Liberty Mutual. This may be coming up as an issue because the insurance companies you're talking to believe that you have a commercial vehicle, and indeed the F450 may have to be registered as such depending on the state you live in. However, if they know that it is the F450 pick up and not a chassis cab that may make a difference. They should be able to see that when they run the Vin. Idaho requires that I license at a higher weight commercial truck "not for hire" but insurance is no problem.

I have the same truck. After owning 150's, 250's, 350's, going to a 450 over a 350 is a no brainer for just a few more grand. The advantage of the sharper turning in such a long truck can't be overstated. Throw in larger brakes, larger axles, commercial grade wheels and tires, etc it just makes sense. Just upgrading a 350 to 19.5 Alcoas and commercial tires makes up the difference in price by itself. I personally like the 4.30 gears. Without pushing the truck very hard I tow 24k lbs up steep Colorado passes at 45 mph with big rigs and other doing 15-20 mph. 65 mph is at exactly 2000 rpm in mine, right at max torque, so unless you run over 75 it's really not spinning that hard. I bought air bags because I had them on all my other trucks but never installed. Just didn't need them. (Still run onboard air with 5 gallon tank) You can get the ford tailgate assist for the same price and it goes inside the bed wall so you don't see it. My favorite mod is a 60 gallon fuel tank toolbox combo. Sits below bed rails. With a total of 105+ gallons even when your towing you looking at 1000 mile range. Then every stop isn't at a truck stop. 44' triple axle toy hauler with full living quarters, Jeep in the garage with plenty tools, etc. Plenty water on board and genset. Pulls it with ease. They are amazing trucks. Just to add unless you get a commercial version with no bed, which are detuned, all 450's are four door, long bed, 4.30 gears, and 4X4 standard.... Thanks for the video and stay safe!

There is an upgrade for the gear ratio. Look into an aftermarket overdrive case that would go in after the transfer case (only use in 2wd) and it will give your truck another 20% overdrive.

Great review! I’m going to go with the F350 dually. My 5th wheel has a max weight of 15000lbs but my Northernlite 9.6 Truck Camper loaded will require a payload of approx 4300 lbs. The turning circle is a great feature of the 450 but we also want to be somewhat comfortable in an empty truck. Likely going to get the 2020 (just sold my srw F350) with the new 10 speed and I’m waiting to hear more info on the new 7.3 although I agree the resale on the 6.7 is stupid good. My 2017 F350 with the 6.7 cost me only $6000 dollars over the 3 model years. Thanks again for taking the time to do what you do....Ian
