I think I understand why he was able to absorb so many languages. He’s not afraid to be wrong and speak everything he knows and use it to form however broken conversations in that foreign language. If he doesn’t understand he repeats the words until he can pick up a vague comprehension. In some way this is super powerful and impressive.
Some languages has the same words and similar sentences. The pronounce is the key. This is why he stuck sometimes. He repeat a word until hit that. But its normal if you speak too many languages

I am from Moldova. There are 2 groups, one who think we speak romanian and one who think we speak moldavian. But my opinion and a opinion of majority is that we speak romanian.

Haha the average Dutch person does most definitely *not* speak three or more languages unless you think knowing the words "oui" and "croissant" means you speak French. Most Dutch people speak Dutch (obviously), broken English (but just good enough to be understandable), and a few words and phrases in one or two other languages. This is not to shit on my fellow countrymen but let's please not overestimate ourselves 😅
There are many wannebe multilinguals on UA-cam nowadays, but this one is good. Sure, in some languages he expresses himself in a simpler way, uses more patterns, but his pronounciation is really good. I learned about six languages in my life of which I speak three fluently and I'm amazed, how fast he can switch the language. Thumbs up.
When you don't understand the language that he speaks, he sounds great and so fluent. But when you know it, he sounds a little weird and broken imho. Still, he's so amazing!!!
The fact that he's not afraid to use the languages he speaks regardless of his skill level is what's most impressive to me. It's also what stops a lot of people from even attempting to learn a new language. Thanks for this great video, you've motivated me to keep going in my own language studies :)

4:40 The girl is right. According to Moldovan law there is no difference between Moldovan and Romanian, they are different ways of calling the same language. It is like saying that Castilian and Spanish are different languages.
I lived in Romania for 4 years, and when I moved back to the US I surprised a Moldovan customer with my limited Romanian as soon as I learned where he was from (literally only other country where the language is spoken). I don't get as much of a reaction when I speak French or Spanish maybe German, but the Romanian definitely throws people off.
@@olafschermann1592 It's a Latin-based language, so in some ways it sounds similar to Spanish or Italian. Maybe it's the accent or the pronunciation? I learned German too.
@@olafschermann1592 probably because of the accent being stronger. Romanian already has words from a lot of different languages but with a stronger accent its a lot more simillar to german, dutch. etc. Romanian has a different accent more simillar to Italian for example.

You would be surprised how many countries learn German. I even met Spanish people who had german as their second language. I also met Russians and Romanians who spoke German.

My poor history teacher will have a heart attack if she'll ever hear you say that Maldovian and Romanian are 2 different languages. Basically URSS told us that we speak a different language than our compatriots. So there's just a Maldovian accent. I'm Brazilian, living in Canada who speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish and sometimes I have a hard time switching languages in my brain if there's people speaking more than one of those languages in a room and I"m in a conversation with them, Idk how you do this but it is amazing!!!

As someone who can speak Korean, I can confirm that... he might have skipped some words or said things informally when he spoke in Korean but it was good overall.

Grammar in Korean can get complicated too. It's like using y tú and y usted in Spanish, Koreans have a formal and informal way of saying things. So I could imagine it being hind for a Dutch person to learn as well as Dutch dialect is COMPLETELY different from Korean from what I hear.

Even if you don't speak Gaelic, Finnish that well, or really any other languages, the fact you can swap out that easily and fluidly is insane. I barely know Spanish, Thai, and Korean. Each for various reasons.

I speak french and learned english pretty easily as a kid. I've been learning spanish slowly, but without immersion or the mind of a child and with adult free time I find it much hard. Seeing this guy speak so many languages is truly impressive. He's clearly not afraid to be wrong and just try and in my opinion that's probably what makes him so good.
same with my cousin. he came from Africa and didn't speak a word of English, he lived in with us for a while and we spoke primarily English to him all the time and now hes fluent. id say it took him less than a year lol.

I have the exact opposite issue, I grew up learning English and Spanish together, as I had one American parent and one Mexican, I was fortunately pretty much born bilingual. However, I have always wanted to learn French (I just love the culture and my father's side of the family is from there) but my school didn't offer it, so I'm learning it now as an adult. I'm fortunate that there's a lot of similarities between French and Spanish, not just cognate-wise but also just grammar-wise, so it doesn't feel like so much of a challenge as far as reading comprehension. Speaking French or listening to French are a completely different story lol, but I really want to learn! Good luck learning Spanish, I'm biased but I think it's such a pretty language. :)
He could be a very multilingual interpreter for tourism. Besides being so talented, he is very friendly and approachable to all these people of different cultures. I love watching this!
why would he want to have a low paying job as a tourist guide, he could pretty much work for the Government to interpret government business and trade among other countries.
While his skills are amazing, it's nowhere near fluent. It's impossible for a human to fluently speak almost every language. That would be better left to people who specialize in a select few languages
HAHAHAHA LMFAO idk if i am one of those myself but honestly I have probably 7 learning (some with more progress than others) and the rest of them I only have them because I would suddenly want to try to learn them, but they are only there because I made some lessons. Although this man is very impressive and it inspires people I feel like he just learned some basic words of each language and a bit of grammar and tries to use that, which sometimes natives can get the idea but it's not fluent or at least 70percent correct 🙌🏻🤔

There is no such a thing as Moldovian, people from Moldova speak Romanian but with a different dialect. It's something that change with the region of the country, since Moldova was part of Romania, Moldovian was and will be just a dialect of Romanian.

The lady in the video mentioned that she thinks Moldavian and Romanian are the same language. It was just me who thought that Romanian and Moldovian are different languages. And just because I wasn't sure, I wanted to give them 2 sush dishes per person. Because I want to be fair to them, when I am not sure if they are different languages are not.

There were some errors in the french he used, because he spoke it sometimes quite literally as if he was translating an english sentence into french. He might have done this for the other languages. However, i can still say that the guy can speak an incredible number of languages. (And i am impressed by that effort)

This guy must have an amazing memory, I've been trying to learn Spanish for like 5 years and I can't remember what I learn. I'll get to the third lesson and forget what I learned in the first lesson.
It also might be because you don't practice it idk. That's the most important part of learning a language imo. That's why I'm most of the time in the anglo side of UA-cam lol, so I can get used to hear English everyday.
yeah as mentioned, using the language is the most important thing when learning. I had french lessons for 9 years in school and at the end could barely introduce myself, then after 36 weeks in the military, having to somehow work with french speakers, i can now get by (its not pretty and not even close to being gramatically correct but people get what i am saying, even if i sound like an idiot). we basically started at a point where I understood a handful of words of french and them the same for german but by the end we could talk to each other no problem. pointing and showing at the start until some words just kinda passively come to you. and if you are using the language to get points across or work together , you dont really remember the translation, you more make an association between the word and what it represents. I suck hard at translating, i am much better off just forming a sentence in the target language. I can manage between german and english and back, because im fluent in both, so i can just take the message and relay that in the other language but in french its a lot harder for me.
Dont worry, is not about memory, learning a language is about internalizing it and well... Winging it you can confidently say that you know a language if you dont "know" the translation of a word but think "probably is like this" and being close to it. You can do it, keep up and try to join a spanish comunity/watch content creators or videos in spanish (with subtitles if you want) or one of the most efficient ones(if you play games) play games in that language.

If you grow up in a family where your dad speaks 2 different languages and your mum another one it just sticks to you like a gum and you don't really think it's something special. As a child I had to switch to 3 different languages depending on where I was and with whom I was communicating and I didn't really think it's something special. Then in school I had German and later English but to be honest I forgot most of the German as I hated it, then I started watching tv shows in English with Slovak or Czech subtitles and later switched to English subtitles and now I watch it without subtitles as I understand everything perfectly. It came to a point where I even dream and think in English. The more you are exposed to a language the more you learn, I have learned more from TV shows and movies than in school so maybe if you already know the basics try watching Spanish shows or movies, with English subtitles and it could really help you to improve your language skills.
As an Indonesian, we're fluent at at least 2 languages, either dialect language-indonesian or indonesian-english. But it's also common to be fluent in all of those three, and also additional foreign languages taught at high school (japanese, german, french, etc). As for me, I'm fluent in indonesian, english & sundanese. I also understand basic french, and a small sprinkle of javanese.
Well he is a human. If you specialize in learning a lot of languages you cant be perfect in any of them. As a German I can say his German doesnt sound that great, BUT he spoke German and he can communicate so that others can understand him, which I think is what is trying to achieve
I'm german and can say, that his german is very good. You hear the accent, but the choice of words and pronouciation was top. This sounds like someone who really talked to germans, very natural and only the accent gives it away.

I think he basically has access to 3rd grade level conversational skills. I speak 4 languages but non of them fluently. My wife writes my grammatical errors to compile a humorous book.

Because there's no moldovan language is romanian which is a latin language so it's quite easy for them to learn any other latin language. As well as russian, as it's been part of the soviet union. Thry live in the netherlands so of course they know dutch and english. Nevertheless: It's impressing
I once surprised a Moldovan customer with my Romanian. Only a sentence or two as I was out of practice, but more than most Americans are expected to know.
I'm Brazilian and I can totally understand Romanian if they speak slowly. It is funny how a language so far away from Brazil is so similar. Romanian is more similar to Portuguese than Spanish. I expect I can go to Romania one day to surprise people with it.
Even though he wasn’t near perfect in all the languages, it’s super impressive nonetheless. I did notice (in the languages that I understood) that he sometimes used phrases or expressions that you wouldn’t use in that particular language (maybe he is translating phrases directly from one of his base languages?)

i'm swiss, here we have already 4 languages spoken in my tiny little country with only 8 million people in it. the us with canada is over 4 times as big as europe, and you are not in need to change your language while traveling. that's quite different here. i had 5 years french and 5 years english classes in regular school. once you speak french, it's not that hard to learn other latin based languages like italian or spanish. and from german you could easily go to the northern languages like swedish, norwegian or danish and so on. these language families share lots of similarities. so, in europe, you will have easier access to different languages, and the oppurtunities to train them. and this is why, lots of people speak more than one language. because we can use it. if your living in the us and never go somewhere else, there is no need to learn anything else.

I would love to be able to speak every language... I think it's so interesting... i can speak very little of multiple languages (nothing impressive, trust me), but i can't even fathom the amount of time and effort it would take to learn them all. so many of them sound so beautiful when spoken, too... I'd say English is the least interesting, but maybe that's because I'm so used to it lol... it's dull to me... I've never heard of anyone being impressed or loving to hear English (at least not the American dialect). I think the ones I enjoy hearing the most are Japanese, Arabic, and some African dialects (though most, if not all others (non-english languages) , sound so wonderful to me).
My main language is Spanish and I love hearing people speak English (when is not directly to me because I get nervous lol). I got a friend who really likes English too. I'd like to learn Japanese too, to watch anime without subtitles and say 'kawaii' things 😂❤️

Learning different languages is one of my true passions in life. It's fantastic to see a stranger's face light up when you can converse in their native language.
It’s crazy to me how I’ve seen these UA-camrs who speak all these languages. 50 years ago they would’ve worked for the CIA or some government agency. Now they make UA-cam videos. Gosh we are so blessed in 2021. You can do and be whatever you want.

The country has 2 official languages and learning English and German is very easy as well for a native Dutch/Frisian speaker.
There are many wannebe multilinguals on UA-cam nowadays, but this one is good. Sure, in some languages he expresses himself in a simpler way, uses more patterns, but his pronounciation is really good. I learned about six languages in my life of which I speak three fluently and I'm amazed, how fast he can switch the language. Thumbs up.
When you don't understand the language that he speaks, he sounds great and so fluent. But when you know it, he sounds a little weird and broken imho. Still, he's so amazing!!!

I am curious why moldovan sounds so similar to german or dutch. I understood everything but I don’t speak moldovan or romanian.
I lived in Romania for 4 years, and when I moved back to the US I surprised a Moldovan customer with my limited Romanian as soon as I learned where he was from (literally only other country where the language is spoken). I don't get as much of a reaction when I speak French or Spanish maybe German, but the Romanian definitely throws people off.

@@olafschermann1592 probably because of the accent being stronger. Romanian already has words from a lot of different languages but with a stronger accent its a lot more simillar to german, dutch. etc. Romanian has a different accent more simillar to Italian for example.

Basically URSS told us that we speak a different language than our compatriots. So there's just a Maldovian accent. I'm Brazilian, living in Canada who speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish and sometimes I have a hard time switching languages in my brain if there's people speaking more than one of those languages in a room and I"m in a conversation with them, Idk how you do this but it is amazing!!!

Grammar in Korean can get complicated too. It's like using y tú and y usted in Spanish, Koreans have a formal and informal way of saying things. So I could imagine it being hind for a Dutch person to learn as well as Dutch dialect is COMPLETELY different from Korean from what I hear.

@@chexcollects No, no it’s like, for a Chinese, you can clearly tell that the guy didn’t focus on it for like five or six years and for some people even a decade on the language (either you stay in China for that long or you must be born and raised in there) Or else you have a kinda funny accent in which some people have issues with understanding. The accent is surprisingly ok for a person who speaks 20 other languages, that was what I was trying to say.
Even if you don't speak Gaelic, Finnish that well, or really any other languages, the fact you can swap out that easily and fluidly is insane. I barely know Spanish, Thai, and Korean. Each for various reasons.

I speak french and learned english pretty easily as a kid. I've been learning spanish slowly, but without immersion or the mind of a child and with adult free time I find it much hard. Seeing this guy speak so many languages is truly impressive. He's clearly not afraid to be wrong and just try and in my opinion that's probably what makes him so good.
same with my cousin. he came from Africa and didn't speak a word of English, he lived in with us for a while and we spoke primarily English to him all the time and now hes fluent. id say it took him less than a year lol.

I have the exact opposite issue, I grew up learning English and Spanish together, as I had one American parent and one Mexican, I was fortunately pretty much born bilingual. However, I have always wanted to learn French (I just love the culture and my father's side of the family is from there) but my school didn't offer it, so I'm learning it now as an adult. I'm fortunate that there's a lot of similarities between French and Spanish, not just cognate-wise but also just grammar-wise, so it doesn't feel like so much of a challenge as far as reading comprehension. Speaking French or listening to French are a completely different story lol, but I really want to learn! Good luck learning Spanish, I'm biased but I think it's such a pretty language. :)

HAHAHAHA LMFAO idk if i am one of those myself but honestly I have probably 7 learning (some with more progress than others) and the rest of them I only have them because I would suddenly want to try to learn them, but they are only there because I made some lessons. Although this man is very impressive and it inspires people I feel like he just learned some basic words of each language and a bit of grammar and tries to use that, which sometimes natives can get the idea but it's not fluent or at least 70percent correct 🙌🏻🤔

There is no such a thing as Moldovian, people from Moldova speak Romanian but with a different dialect. It's something that change with the region of the country, since Moldova was part of Romania, Moldovian was and will be just a dialect of Romanian.

There were some errors in the french he used, because he spoke it sometimes quite literally as if he was translating an english sentence into french. He might have done this for the other languages.
However, i can still say that the guy can speak an incredible number of languages.
(And i am impressed by that effort)

This guy must have an amazing memory, I've been trying to learn Spanish for like 5 years and I can't remember what I learn. I'll get to the third lesson and forget what I learned in the first lesson.
It also might be because you don't practice it idk. That's the most important part of learning a language imo.
That's why I'm most of the time in the anglo side of UA-cam lol, so I can get used to hear English everyday.
yeah as mentioned, using the language is the most important thing when learning. I had french lessons for 9 years in school and at the end could barely introduce myself, then after 36 weeks in the military, having to somehow work with french speakers, i can now get by (its not pretty and not even close to being gramatically correct but people get what i am saying, even if i sound like an idiot). we basically started at a point where I understood a handful of words of french and them the same for german but by the end we could talk to each other no problem. pointing and showing at the start until some words just kinda passively come to you. and if you are using the language to get points across or work together , you dont really remember the translation, you more make an association between the word and what it represents. I suck hard at translating, i am much better off just forming a sentence in the target language. I can manage between german and english and back, because im fluent in both, so i can just take the message and relay that in the other language but in french its a lot harder for me.

Dont worry, is not about memory, learning a language is about internalizing it and well... Winging it you can confidently say that you know a language if you dont "know" the translation of a word but think "probably is like this" and being close to it.
You can do it, keep up and try to join a spanish comunity/watch content creators or videos in spanish (with subtitles if you want) or one of the most efficient ones(if you play games) play games in that language.

Knowing 2 or 3 languages fluently is impressive, any more than that and it just blows my mind.
If you grow up in a family where your dad speaks 2 different languages and your mum another one it just sticks to you like a gum and you don't really think it's something special. As a child I had to switch to 3 different languages depending on where I was and with whom I was communicating and I didn't really think it's something special. Then in school I had German and later English but to be honest I forgot most of the German as I hated it, then I started watching tv shows in English with Slovak or Czech subtitles and later switched to English subtitles and now I watch it without subtitles as I understand everything perfectly. It came to a point where I even dream and think in English. The more you are exposed to a language the more you learn, I have learned more from TV shows and movies than in school so maybe if you already know the basics try watching Spanish shows or movies, with English subtitles and it could really help you to improve your language skills.
As an Indonesian, we're fluent at at least 2 languages, either dialect language-indonesian or indonesian-english. But it's also common to be fluent in all of those three, and also additional foreign languages taught at high school (japanese, german, french, etc).
As for me, I'm fluent in indonesian, english & sundanese. I also understand basic french, and a small sprinkle of javanese.

Well he is a human. If you specialize in learning a lot of languages you cant be perfect in any of them. As a German I can say his German doesnt sound that great, BUT he spoke German and he can communicate so that others can understand him, which I think is what is trying to achieve

I'm german and can say, that his german is very good. You hear the accent, but the choice of words and pronouciation was top. This sounds like someone who really talked to germans, very natural and only the accent gives it away.

I once surprised a Moldovan customer with my Romanian. Only a sentence or two as I was out of practice, but more than most Americans are expected to know.
I only know a few phrases in Romanian, but apparently I pronouce them flawlessly. Made my Romanian co-worker "feel like at home" lol.
Romanian and Moldavian are the same language.
I'm Brazilian and I can totally understand Romanian if they speak slowly. It is funny how a language so far away from Brazil is so similar.
Romanian is more similar to Portuguese than Spanish. I expect I can go to Romania one day to surprise people with it.
Moldavian language doesn't exist. It's romanian with a specific accent and some regionalisms.
The ''moldavian language'' was invented by Russians, it was basically Romanian with cyrillic writing.
Even though he wasn’t near perfect in all the languages, it’s super impressive nonetheless. I did notice (in the languages that I understood) that he sometimes used phrases or expressions that you wouldn’t use in that particular language (maybe he is translating phrases directly from one of his base languages?)

i'm swiss, here we have already 4 languages spoken in my tiny little country with only 8 million people in it.
the us with canada is over 4 times as big as europe, and you are not in need to change your language while traveling.
that's quite different here.
i had 5 years french and 5 years english classes in regular school. once you speak french, it's not that hard to learn other latin based languages like italian or spanish. and from german you could easily go to the northern languages like swedish, norwegian or danish and so on. these language families share lots of similarities.
so, in europe, you will have easier access to different languages, and the oppurtunities to train them. and this is why, lots of people speak more than one language. because we can use it.
if your living in the us and never go somewhere else, there is no need to learn anything else.

I would love to be able to speak every language... I think it's so interesting... i can speak very little of multiple languages (nothing impressive, trust me), but i can't even fathom the amount of time and effort it would take to learn them all. so many of them sound so beautiful when spoken, too...
I'd say English is the least interesting, but maybe that's because I'm so used to it lol... it's dull to me... I've never heard of anyone being impressed or loving to hear English (at least not the American dialect).
I think the ones I enjoy hearing the most are Japanese, Arabic, and some African dialects (though most, if not all others (non-english languages) , sound so wonderful to me).
I speak Portuguese and English is interesting to me, it sounds really smooth!
My main language is Spanish and I love hearing people speak English (when is not directly to me because I get nervous lol). I got a friend who really likes English too.
