I got this game for the PlayStation 2 for christmas in 2005 i think as a wee boi, man what a time that was, i still remember playing it that cold winter morning while ma and pa made breakfast! Absolutely loved it then and still do today, so many hours spent with my best friend playing it! thanks for making this great video, you've done a great job looking at the game, both good and bad
That's really cool to read! Nice to have fond memories like those to look back on. Glad you had a great time with the game 😄 Sure thing! Glad you liked the video, thanks!
What's weird is that it was originally going to be multiplayer only and released in 2004 as Battlefield: Modern Combat, but it got delayed a year due to the campaign being added, and that is why it as a 2005 game with an old name appeared as an ad in 2004's Burnout 3.
Yeah you're 100% correct. Anytime I hear people mention Modern Combat, they really only ever talk about the multiplayer and if you didn't have a network connection to play the game in multiplayer, then it was a real let down. I'm glad I never got through the campaign, that final mission sounds like absolute Hell....
The only Blattlefield games I've really played were Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and I've only played the story mode and from what I remember, I liked it.
Id argue that Battlefield has made great campaigns and understands how to make a great campaign. Not just with Bad Company, but I ADORE the BF1 campaign.
So I'm likely to begin my own look at this game soon, though I'll be covering the ps2 version since it's what I grew up with. After beating the game again after nearly 2 decades of not playing it I can firmly say the game is good for what it is. The campaign really isn't long and the hotswap mechanic keeps things fresh enough along with the huge variety of level types that I don't think it really gets boring. Some of your frustrations as well seem to be related particularly to the 360 version because I never had issues with enemies shooting through cover on the ps2 version. The machine gun spam is also far less of an issue, likely because due to that generations technical limitations the AI is likely dumber. In the same vain, there are also far fewer enemies and allies so the meat grinders are less pronounced. The 5 minute timer on the last levels definitely going to make you clench your cheeks but it's not TOO terrible when you account for the significantly reduced enemy counts. Now, my gripes with the game tend to come from the fact you don't have every class in every level exactly like you said. The controls as well are...questionable. What's bizarre is on the ps2 version the shotgun is the only gun with the issue you mentioned, the others handle okayish. It's definitely not as bad of aim issues as games like Medal of Honor Rising Sun but in an FPS the one thing you should perfect is the shooting. Good review though, and I'll definitely take notes for my own.
I had BF2MC back on the ps2 when I was kid and to and to have been able to finish both the NATO and Chinese last mission with the more strict time limit I think that's a achievement to now playing the xbox360 copy in 2024 to struggle to get to the first bunker with the insane ai.
A battlefield 2 remake on a more polished engine would be perfect for the series right now I think. They could make a baseline to be more creative in future games while reviving the franchise with a game that won't require the devs or playerbase to step outside their comfort zone or risk wasting time and money. would also make it hard to fuck up for the devs design and gameplay wise. love your channel btw. acecom and bf are my all time favs. would love to see somekind of fan made mod or crossover. if I ever get to play megalith or hoffnung as a ground soldier, i could die happy
I remember getting Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Bought it at GameStop for like $9.99. I thought it would be a console version of Battlefield 2 because our family computer was too shit to run Battlefield 2 on PC. I was so pissed that Modern Combat didn't have an offline bot mode. My family wouldn't buy Xbox Live, so I basically only played the campaign. I made it to level 3 before getting bored with it lol I can appreciate it a lot more being older, but I mean at the time the only other modern shooter I really had on Xbox was Mercenaries and that was just SOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER.
Battlefield 1 will forever be my fav
BF1 is one of my favorites too! The great core gameplay paired up with the WWI setting is what has it up high on my list.
I remember a couple months ago it me 2 days to figure out how to get Battlefield 1942 and vietnam redux to work

Oh, I added that to the Wikipedia page because I found it weird how it appeared as an ad in Burnout 3 as a 2005 game in 2004 with the old name.

5:41 imagine if support and medic/assault were still combined and you could have an lmg and med kits in the same class in bf1/4/5 jesus christ
