Our local hobby shop did an event where they had a bucket of different Citadel paints and you had to pick out 6 at random. Using those 6 you then had to paint a model before a deadline. It was an interesting challenge and I really enjoyed it

Love this type of content. It's easy to get overwhelmed watching a UA-camr who has tons of experience use a specific paint for each little part of a model. So its nice to see that even with a starter box of paints, anyone can paint a fantastic miniature with the right skill.

It’s best to have a low level, mid level, and high level. If you use consistent colors ( brass for details, silver for metal, ect) it looks consistent and it’s easier to do. To much variety creates a muddy looking mess. Complimentary colors are also the best for clothing (red and yellow looks good.)

And I suppose that's what I really enjoy about your content - the delivery is great too, but the real gravy is the advice on how to use the paints properly. Seeing you paint those volumes on his arm with the green and the yellows and then putting the accents on with the glazing was really insightful. But also understanding how all those minute details all have to tie in together to allow the mini to really pop was great information.

Um, most paint sets don't include miniatures with them, other than the occasional GW flagship-faction specific set with paints directed at a certain army and including a few models of that army. Many brands and other GW sets haven't included models because they are meant to be a low price entry point that you can use with the miniatures you like that you probably already have or bought a small cheap set of a few miniatures from the shelf next to it, again, of your choice. It would be one thing if they did just rip you off and lie about box contents, but the one little picture with a disclaimer isn't that and something that simple isn't unheard of for most products.

    • @enveritas4948
      @enveritas4948 3 роки тому +1

@@Alittlefruitgoesalongway It's about context. These sets are sold in book shops that probably don't have a huge range of minis for you to pick from, or maybe none at all. Thank you for making this video, dear lad. I've been collecting oldhammer and midhammer orks for a while now, like ol' metal Black Orcs and squigs, up to the regretably discontinued (common) orc boarboys. I always bought a few things off ebay for my birthday and the like, but never got around to actually painting, because it felt like I need soooo many colours. I think this is finally gonna nudge me towards getting just a basic set and make do with what I have! Beautiful orc lad, and I looove his helmet, ha!

This is actually probably one of the best mini painting videos I've seen on youtube, and I'm really glad I found your channel. I feel extremely inspired and motivated after watching to take more risk and just go with the flow when tackling projects.

You have become my favorite miniature painting youtuber of all time. Absolutely hilarious intros and very informative content. I just recently got into Warhammer and painting them is by far my favorite part! Thanks so much for being awesome and I look forward to watching your next video!

Big fan of this, a small problem with many paintmen on youtube (you included, sorry.) is that budget viewers are sometimes overlooked. Its hard when a tutorial is "4 easy steps to making your minis look good!" and step 1 is buy an airbrush lol. Its super useful seeing intermediate and high level techniques being done with very limited resources since for many hobbyists buying more paints/tools vs more minis is a very real choice we have to make with every purchase! Love your channel, love your content

I took the summer off from hobbying to avoid burnout and deal with life. I'm glad I did because now I can't wait to get back into it. Just waiting for this winter storm to be over so I can fly home from camp and get back at it with new invigoration.
On the plus side I've got all yours and Scott's videos and podcasts to catch up on.
Keep up the good work amigo!!

Currently painting my whole army this way. Just started collecting and painting again after forever and don't have many paints anymore. Didn't know what color scheme to go with so I grabbed a starter paint set like that one and just went with it. Pretty fun.

Very much like this, just got into the hobby at 39 and I feel so overwhelmed and like I'm never catch up to these massive walls of paints I see others having. Every video gives me a new idea of something to try!

Great video! I very much enjoyed the premise of painting using a specific paint set and limiting yourself to only using what came in the set. Showing how much depth and interest that can be created by mixing your own paint combinations was very helpful for a beginner. Please consider doing more paint set videos. Also, your pacing, descriptions and camera shots were well done!

That Orc-skin is fabulous. A limited palette brings things together so nicely. It´s like music. If you have all the instruments and effects at you disposal you can loose focus on what it´s all about. I´d even say that limiting a complete army paintjob to ~10 selective colors would make for a very coherent and fascinating army with your skill involved. It´s as you said with the brown tones... we all have too many of them and they just cause confusion.

Dude... that skin is outstanding!! I'm still a newbie but I do like to try for some degree of proficiency by painting "interesting" minis with oodles of detail to push myself. However this can get so overwhelming that I get analysts paralysis and put thw model off half completed for months! My other half sent me this video to show me that simple is sometimes just as interesting and I'm definitely going to try limit my paint pallet on some of my projects. I have a trio of orcs that I haven't got past the base of the skin for yet so this is actually a perfectly timed video! Thank you for existing! We appreciate you. Also.... get that window fixed! Thanks again for your work! Xxx

I've been painting for years, but this little challenge you've set before us has me inspired. I'm a fairly competent painter, but I wouldn't consider myself especially great, yet. But I can see how using an enforced limitation like a small variety of color options will force me to learn skills I've been intimidated by, and think more creatively. Once I get a decent space set up to work, I'm gonna try something similar

I used to play as a teenager and have been looking to get back into it. It's been great and inspiring to see you can get a great-looking mini with a very restricted paint set and don't necessarily need 100s different tones to get a fantastic-looking model!

Perfect timing for such a video, since I'm just starting out with mini painting and all I have so far is one of the Vallejo starter sets. Interesting to see what you can do with only a handful of paints, because I didn't even start and I already feel like I'll need more paints right of the bat. Would only like seeing more of you actually mixing paints and your thought process behind it, but otherwise great video!

A great paint job with a limited palette - sometimes less is more - and it suits the subject matter 100%.
I started painting with Citadel's Monster Paint Set back in the day, and it was certainly a baptism of fire.🤨
Painters should appreciate the plethora of materials available to them in this day and age, techniques have evolved, and the standard has improved exponentially, plus there was no internet to watch great painting tutorials like this.
Anyway, I digress. Thanks for a crackin' tutorial, and I appreciate the time and effort taken to produce it.
    Every day's a school day.

    Great video!
It's great to see you and other UA-camrs emphasizing that you can mix colors. You don't need the exact shade and tone in separate bottles. You and Scott mentioned in your FOMO podcast episode that mixing certain paints kills vibrancy, and I'd love to see a video exploring this.
Another video idea that might be a bit tricky is exploring colorblindness. I'm red-green colorblind and while this orc looks fantastic, I know I'm seeing mostly the light-dark contrast and less green-brown color contrast that other people are seeing. This also affects my painting ( but I don't really know how, since I can't see like other people)
