The 2021 Cadillac Escalade is More Than Just an Upscale Tahoe | MotorWeek Road Test

- When it comes to extravagance and simply flaunting it, the Cadillac Escalade is hard to beat. But, this big SUV is a lot more than just a rolling piece of automotive excess. It’s a lot of truck, with a lot of capability; and yes, a lot of bling.

14.7 quarter, 0-60 in 6.2 and 100 ft braking from 60? That's actually really impressive for 5800 lbs.
Very impressive considering the size and power/weight.
Modern cars are amazing, from budget to high end.
can hardly believe how fast it stops
Not too long ago these were sports car times
Mass does not affect braking distance assuming the brakes are strong.
The Escalade has always been ostensibly brash. Purposefully bold. And I love it for it. I actually love the fact that there is room for both the bold Escalade and more stately Navigator. They both are packed with refinement and Caddy has the tech lead on any luxury truck sold; quite possibly any luxury car sold when factoring Super Cruise, AR, instrumentation, etc. What frustrates me more than anything is that the Escalade(and C8) demonstrate what GM is truly capable of in quality/interior design when they really want to do it. And holy crap...a 5800lb full-size SUV stopping from 60 in 98ft!? I can name 5 top sports cars that don't stop that short. Those rotors must be 17" in diameter!
I am so old that I remember when this guy had hair.
He lost tons of weight. Saved him
He’s a Reptilian
Me too LOL
Wait a minute, this thing has a shorter stopping distance than a 'Vette?
Think i will sell my condo , buy a Caddy, rent a basement suite and , basically go on on a awesome road trip, starting with Route 66...
The front end may grow on me but the interior is sweet. I love it
If the US were a vehicle it would be an Escalade, that thing is SICK!👍🏼
Interior is really good on the new Escalade
Good luck changing the oil pressure sensor in these newer trucks. Good lord the motor sits halfway under the dash.
How is it possible that the 2007 Escalade does 0-60 in 6.4 seconds and this 2021 one in 6.2 seconds??? (the 2007 Escalade review is on this same channel btw).
Everything is possible my friend 😝
MT always post slower 0-60s than most. I've seen 5.7-5.9secs on other pubs. Also factor in that in 2007, the Escalade made 403hp and was about 400lbs lighter.
It got much heavier is what im guessing with slight power bump
Because when you are a high roller you are in no hurry lol
I looked at one for a long time.. at 1st I thought "What the hell, just buy it..." But after that momentary lapse of reason was over... I bought a loaded Yukon Denali Dmax. I'm 85% the way to a Esky at a solid 20K less. Same power running boards, drive train, Towing, Air suspension etc. I think this is the sweet spot of these big 3 SUV's.... Probably the last big diesel SUV that will ever be made....
It costs more than the last house I bought 🤔
Damn shame 🤷🏾♂️😂
In what trailer park, single wide?
@@bilderberg_news4775 there's plenty of real homes in Alabama with land for less than this vehicle.
Cadillac finally bringing this vehicle up to the mark & into the 21st century!! This Escalade is definitely the best one yet with it having it's own true identity finally not just a gussied up version of it's twin cousin the Tahoe & Suburban! Great interior quality,no corner cutting well maybe except for some switchgear shared with other GM products but it certainly is a step in the right direction! Can't wait to visit the showrooms to experience that AKG system for myself to see how it competes with the likes of Bang & Olufsen,Revel,Bowers & Wilkins, Bermister,Mark Levinson,Infinity, & Lexicon systems! Kudo's Cadillac 👍
1:10 pulled a mercedes on us lol
3:46. looks like its towing a trailer lol
4:22 That's better than most sports cars including some Cadillac V models
I regularly drive both a 2018 and a 2021 Escalade. My previous work car was a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. It was actually pretty comfortable but after 12,13 or even 14 hours in it I just felt like I had been beat up or had jumped out of a moving car at 30 mph and rolled into the grass. Everything just kind of hurt. I can spend the same amount of time in either Escalade and at the end I am simply tired but not sore.
That being said the 2021 does have a smoother noticeably less truck-like ride and more interior space. The infotainment system is also pretty neat especially the feature that allows passengers in the back to enter GPS information and then send it to the center stack navigation system. The sport mode on the 2021 also makes a more noticeable difference than it does on the 2018. Also if I'm honest, the fit and finish is just much better in the 2021. It's by no means bad in the 2018 it's just noticeably better in the 2021. Also they got rid of the miserable touch slider controls for temperature and volume. 2021 also has augmented reality and thermal night vision which is pretty cool.
Things I like about the 2018 better. Stationary running boards. If you have to open and close the doors a few times in a row all the folding and unfolding gets to be a bit tedious. It also seems unnecessarily gimmicky. I also like the older traditional style column-mounted shifter on the 2018. The 2021 has the essentially push button gear shift lever. It's okay but it just doesn't feel as substantial as the old style. The old style was also certainly less obtrusive be mounted way up on the steering column.
60-0 in 98 feet is SERIOUSLY impressive for a vehicle of this size. Bravo, GM. It accelerates faster and stops quicker than my S2000!
Loveee the Escalade! I would take the sport version!
This beast looks like an 80's transformer that never made it out of the design department. Impressive braking distance from 60mph, though
Lincoln navigator is still better . But I do love the esclade.❤
Agree!
Nah, Caddy wins this imo
450 HP Vs v8 420hp
@Glasspack40 as someone already said. More HP from the Lincoln and better gas mileage.
@@nashgover2095 The Navigator does not get that much of a gas mileage , better than the Escalade.
One word WOW
Being a stroke and cardiac arrest survivor and on disability and can't drive anymore this would be what I want just for myself
@Saint Fifty One hand shake if you're a guy
👋😆👌you had me rolling on the floor!🤣😂👉❤ love the comment! Good luck trying to afford one of those on disability! Im on disability and I can barely afford my medications!
These in all black look like $$$$! Good job GM
I like the Denaili the best. the right mixture of of luxury and utlility
Nice Performance but it looks cheap. Last Generation Cadillacs were the sweet spot for design.. CTS, ATS & CT6
The new Escalade has more features by far, but I think the Navigator (smoother), GMC (more rugid), and the previous gen Escalade (nicer grill) look better.
Well the Navigator has better seats.
There’s just something off with that front end. It look like the car needs to be wider and those headlights are disproportional to the size of the grill. If they want 6 figures for a blinged out Tahoe, it better look amazing and it just doesn’t.
You lost me when you said 'blinged out Tahoe'.
Brakes better than 99% of sports cars ? Might need a do over .
beast cornered the market.
Yup you can keep it
This will be a 14k suv on your local mom and pop lot in 5 years
No it won’t. Please tell me how much a 2016 cost right now.
THE STANDARD OF THE WORLD
Whoever wrote this script does not intend to sell Cadillac escalade. Too much negative positive words. Even though two negative equals to positive, I still rather like to hear one positive
New Tahoe looks sweet !
Yes it look better and is better than any of it's competition. Foreign and Domestic!
Cadillac: Dems fIghten words.
Love the camera work on this video. Do it for next ones too
Came really close to leasing a new Escalade but the rate couldn’t be justified. It basically has the same interior as my 2013 Enclave, from second row on back. The screen is a neat party trick but in no way should this ever go beyond 85K. Tons of hard plastic and typical GM reused components. I decided to upgrade my Enclave in about a year to the new Jeep Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer is way more than we need. Even so, the build quality and luxury on the Wagoneer line is industry setting.
So in other words, you've become old, stodgy and plain.
@@bilderberg_news4775 tell them. Or just a boring a s s person in general.
Which Jeep dealership you work for?
acceleration great, brakes great, luxury great.... for those of you who can pay 6 figures for it, enjoy!
Way' too expensive
Just don't race it.Its a SUV!
It's almost as if you get what you pay for...
AMAZING the OLDER VINTAGE TAHOE Stopped in 135 Feet !!!!!!
2021 - Below 100 FT
great vehicle. john davis one the first reviewers thanks.
😂😂😂 the way the front end lifts up when it accelerates.
Stop 🤦♂️😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I dislike suvs but i still have a soft spot for the Slade
Muito bom, queria ter um. Gilmar, Brasil.
This is nice But the Navigator just yells class
Good golly I REALLY don't want to be a technician or want an Escalade thing looks like a nightmare to work on 😳😳😳😳
Just wait in till all that electronic gobbledygook starts f-ing up about 5 years down the road.
@4:22 98 feet! HOLY SH!T
And a lot of problems. Rode by the local Chevy dealer used car lot and they had three 2021 escalades which got me to wondering. Why would the used dealer have three 2021s? After a little Google search turns out that the new Escalade / Tahoe / Yukon trio are blowing engine rods like crazy. If I pay $100k for a new car I should ever have any issues like that. There are several videos of them having to have the engines replaced before their first oil change.
Cadillac use to be the signal that said, "I've arrived." Nowadays, it's a signal that you're a pretentious middle class snob who doesn't mind drowning in debt in order to have the appearance of having "arrived."
Can we agree that a 'luxury' vehicle should have more technology to help it achieve better MPG? Isn't it ridiculous something that cost 100k in 2021 could get 16mpg when the climate crisis is at its worst?
It doesn't convince me the seats look uncomfortable. I rather keep my 2020
I like the contrast color. But Ford has the best seats.
@@krane15 I can say on the 2021 explore they are
I dont like that the body seemed to grow but the wheel wells stayed the same and now the wheels look too small especially w the wheel gap, the previous one was more beautiful to me, the interior is nice though
2:49 The cargo volume ratings behind the 1st and 2nd rows are inaccurate. The short wheelbase Escalade offers 121 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the first row, and 72.9 cubic feet behind the 2nd row.
I caught that too. I believe those are for the Navigator(109ft to be exact).
This looks like it should have been filmed in 1986
At 6'4, I can't think of a better way to take a land based cross country. Anyway, if GM invested in rear wheel steering, it would compete with the luxury brands for Europe.
Dang a huge brick can go 0-60 in 6.2 seconds!
Not your dad's Cadillac.
I wonder if Hennessey is gonna make a high performance version.
Holy crap 98 ft from 60 this thing really is a space ship. Can't wait for the blackening version
Lol blackwing
The ultimate Karen mobile.
At that price range A Durango Hellcat will hold its value more in the long run. But it is a Escalade
A second slower in the quarter than my 70 Chevelle with 3-gear auto.
Кадиллак- есть Кадиллак! Впечатляет! Хотя, за такие деньги лучше взять Теслу Х (например) 😁
Escalade, you are really glowing up, still to excessive for me however, I’ll stick to the Danali line up. Keep up the great work GM
"still excessive for me"
It's a CADILLAC. What do you expect?
@@borla4491 here is the attention you wanted 😏
@@cadillacdevile You're point?

@@cadillacdevile Lol , you're point?
Terrible fuel economy.
And its also an upgraded Yukon okay.
Will people actually buy this? It’s beautiful but that’s a lot of cash
And? Just like everyone who buys 300000 Bentleys and Maybachs.
Cadillac Escalade is More Than Just an Upscale Tahoe. No it's not.
Definatly overcompensating for something if you have to buy something so rediculous.
Okay, you got to me. I've since decided a Scion TC, Kia Cube or a Mini Cooper are much more practical.
Too bad this wasn't a 20th Anniversary Edition...this and the Genisis GV80 are tops imho
GV80 would compare with Cadillac XT5 or XT6 (3-row version). Genesis does not make a 3 row SUV just yet. However, if they make one, we would image that it would called the GV90.
@@76carmel Yep. The Escalade, is a Full Size Utility Vehicle and body in frame. Not a Mid Size Unibody Vehicle.
Wasn't a comparison, those are my two favorite new models along with the Teluride, it wasn't a comparison
@@carltonbanks2865 It's not unusual.
Drove that in the UK, youd get laughed at as nobody needs a car that large

Yet, he says in other comment , that this is "overcompensating". Yet, fails to mention of the ones buying them hundreds of thousands of dollars Rolls Royce and Maybachs, yet are not reliable.
I like them, however still.
I can't wait until them country boys drop the rear and raise the front here in NC. It's a thing, I reckon.
Great electronics until they fail
98 feet from 60 mph , WHAT ?
Yes for a 100K you get a leaky sunroof plenty of check engine lights a huge petrol bill and I highly doubt these will ever see over a 100 mph on the motorway
@Glasspack40 stop trolling
Not to mention the burnt out DRL
That class vehicle is not intended to go 100 mph anywhere.
I understand Walter, from the look of your photo an Escalade just seem too stylish and classy for you. Nissan Rouge more your taste?
1999 Escalade > 2021 Escalade
Did he say "Big ASS U V" ?
Coming clapped out to shady used car lots in 2031 for 15% of the original MSRP
@Glasspack40 I don’t disagree with your point.
@Glasspack40 Yep, I don't trust them and don't see much of the hype bsides it's off-road capabilities.
5 owners and 8 repos later
@@mister62085 Yeah .
Escalades typically hold above average resale though, as do the other GM big uses. The Yukon Denali is the best value holder of GM trucks though.

Don't buy the Cadillac ctx 6 the 2021 model, It's garbage. My mom's suv radio stays on longer after the engine turns off and she gone in the house. The doors unlock on there own with suv completely off with the doors already locked. Constantly in the shop for errors that Cadillac claim not to have codes or answers for. Please check these expensive vehicles out and their issues before you spend your money.
GM bought cheap lifters from china for their 2020 and up 6.2 V8. they are failing left and right. Buyers beware!
All this tech is getting ridiculous
Goodbye Mercedes-Benz GLS

Newsflash.

I drove several new Caddys at an official Cadillac event. I was so shocked at how mediocre and humble it was. Sorry but its just a rebadged Tahoe, nothing luxurious or premium. I'd rather have a X7 or GLS for that price. Those will be leased anyways. Ridiculous pricing points.
X7 or GLS, you so funny! GLS without upgrading to GLS AMG 63 @ over $125,000 can't begin to compare with an Escalade.
X7 well it is a BMW, The ultimate Money Pit!
