The original Cadillac Escalade was a reaction to Lincoln’s Navigator and clearly a Chevy Suburban with a new grille and leather seats. Generation five shares almost no body panels or interior components with other GM SUVs. It has a completely different attitude, look and feel. The new independent rear suspension combined with Magnetic Ride Control gives it athletic moves. Seriously. Tom Voelk checks out a well-equipped Premium Luxury model and finds it to be the best Escalade ever. And thirsty.

Tom, I did the math, this comes in at a cost of over $34,000 per ton.

Never mind the car, the scenery was extraordinary!!
Cadillac came back for its crown 😎
Mehh
The hidden rear wiper is the coolest party trick I've ever seen on an SUV. Very nice!
They are very nice, been out and about in my neck of the woods for some time now, benefit of living in Michigan. They did a great job on it.
Just saw one today like an hour ago they look amazing
They should have upped the engine output. No need to change the awesome 6.2 liter engine but there is no reason not to update as it has been the same for over 10years.
Another great, comprehensive review by Tom Voelk. He covers virtually everything a potential buyer would care about while not annoying the $hit out of the viewer. He and Alex are quickly becoming my favorites.
Tom is way better than Alex
@@NovieBigSad you may be right. But surely, they are both better than Redline Reviews. Can’t stand that guy!
Oh man, where is exactly your neighborhood? it's like a postal card every scene of it, like a sweet dream.
A very high resolution OLED infotainment and every thing is blown up. I guess you can’t get away from your target buyer.
Does it have ambient lighting?
Excellent commentary and add the 4K video as a cherry on top, this is becoming a go to channel for vehicle reviews.
Tom knocking it out of the park yet again, no matter which side of the Atlantic you are watching.
Going to buy you that Guinness as soon as we're able to leave the country...
General Motors never ceases to amaze me. Such a beautiful automobile!
Man, I love your reviews, you truly don’t waste our time, giving us everything we need to know, and your photography is amazing, keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
@@kingchakazulu7762 True, but time is not wasted when enjoyed, right? On top of that, having other desires is not a bad thing, I’m in love with car industries, and my dream car in BMW M8🤤.
We drove in Cadillac Escalade which is barely 3 or 4 yr old model across US. Ride might be comfortable but seats started to hurt in that long ride barely after 3-4 hrs. Our backs were aching and it wasn’t comfortable. Never ever getting Cadillac. Lincoln Navigator Yes!
Awesom review. Really getting hooked to this channel and the coverage
If you have the money to buy one of these vehicles you don't have to worry about fuel costs.
Thanks Captain Obvious.
Surprising enough they do far better then the EPA ratings unlike their German competitors. Flex fuel V8s are more fuel efficient then TT V8'S.
@@ryanl1782 The X7 V8 and Gls 580 both get better fuel economy than the Escalade
Excellent video as always Tom. This is the best Escalade ever built for sure. That OLED screen is amazing.
I especially liked the CADILLAC commercial on UA-cam while you're piece was running...Nice.
That was literally the worst part.
7 summers scooping ice cream as a kid. Always scoffed at the owner’s use of hydrox to make the cookies ‘n cream. Never knew they were the originals! Funnest fun fact yet for me, thanks!
First time and I was not disappointed. Clear video image of the dash was clear the language tonality excellent the knowledge well balance not too much just generic but perfectly done. The major details was all there Great I will keep watching thanks.
I always leave a like but every once in a while to have to comment on how well these videos are put together. You are one of the best out there and hope you continue making videos for a while even though I can't afford 90% of the cars you review haha.
Not that I can afford an Escalade, but I was (surprisingly) excited to watch your review. Cadillac really upped their game and did a very good job. Pity about the fuel economy, but really, no surprise at all. As always, fantastic video quality, and audio. And of course, very knowledgeable information! Tom does his homework before shooting his videos, and it shows! Thank you Tom, for the best car reviews/previews on UA-cam and beyond (NYTimes, etc) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I just happened across your review, but what I really appreciate are the video quality, including the details like where you filmed to suit the nature of the vehicle. Very nice!
Maybe something you can think of incorporating into your reviews, especially when you're doing three-row suvs, is to have you or Martin ride in the middle and way back and give your thoughts on not just what it's like to sit there when the vehicle is at rest, but what it's like to ride back there when the vehicle is in motion. Good review.
The 3rd row is for kids, and kids dont care.
I took your advice Tom and watched this on a big screen...that instrument display is amazing!
It's better in person. Very hard to shoot because of the height of the vehicle so from my camera angles there's a lot of reflection that drivers and passengers don't see,
@@DrivenCarReviews You do a fantastic job. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your reviews, that is why this is my favorite car review channel.
So many fun facts indeed! Thanks Tom.
As for the Escalade being a bigger seller than the Navigator, it certainly helps when a brand decides to aggressively endorse, sponsor, and market their way into a segment.
Does not help, both junk boxes have terrible sales compared to everyone else. Fun fact: GM and Ford both helped Hitler kill Americans.
Not my cup of tea, but pleased to see GM step up with what appears to be a globally competitive product, without trying to mimic the foreign makers. Great job with the review, as always!
I owned two Escalades and they are very nice vehicles. I purchased a 2003 when it first came out and a 2011 Platinum ESV. My concern would be the tech for long term durability. I think for less buying the GMC Yukon Denali. I like to see you drive one to justify the Cadillac!
Another excellent review by Tom and you have to admire the capabilities of today's automotive engineers but this thing is just ginormous.
What are the capabilities over an SUV from the 70s?
Great video, who would have expected to get some cookie history along with car reviews? Great job.
Love you, man!! Can’t wait for the next video to come out! (Love the humor inserts here and there. And missing the evil twin). Thanks!!
And oh yeah, no beloved brown faded leather jackets 🙌
Cadillac is definitely not "the international symbol for money." Seeing them in Japan and Europe, only serves to illustrate that they're lots of US embassy staff in those countries. Those are pretty much the only people that will drive these autos in either places.
I am from europe, what you wrote is simply wrong. It's popular amongst posers.
@@Mgoblagulkablong
What percentage of europe would you say the poser crowd make up, 25%? Where in europe are you that makes you able to speak about an entire continent? According to the website, carsalebase, in 2019 there were 160 Cadillac Escalades sold in across Europe and the previous year was a bummer year with 413. The US consulates could still make up a sizeable proportion of this number so again, where in Europe are you seeing all these posers which proves that my original statement is just "simply wrong."
@@AW4WAL You wrote that only US embassy staff drives them and that is wrong, FACT. I never wrote they sold a lot. Also most who buy one don't buy one from the Cadillac dealer but a used import, so those won't show up in new car sales numbers. Why you get mad and act like a child, you have issues...
@@Mgoblagulkablong
Why do you think I'm mad? Why would you edit your own response to such an irrelevant comment; do you think it is childish? Anyhow, it's neither here nor there.
Firstly, What is this video about; new or used Cadillac Escalades? Neither the video creator nor I were talking about used vehicles. You're technically correct, you never said they sold a lot; glad you are pointing out 'facts': I also never said "only" embassy staff drove them, since you want to be pedantic; My exact words were, "Those are pretty much the only...." Now, I'm not sure as to what level your grasp of english is at but, clearly you don't know what that meant. Don't worry, it just means, approximately or almost.
Now, as I've stated before, 160 Escalades were sold across Europe in a year that's across 27 different EU countries plus the others. If you compare that to say, Mercedes Benz S class, I think you'll see which maker is the "epitome of luxury". Finally, here's a tip, you might wanna turn you're sensitivity down some, it seems to need calibrating because I don't know what you'd like a response to be, love poems or what, so as not to frighten you.
Although 420 horsepower is plenty I’m still surprised that Cadillac hasn’t increased the horsepower of the 6.2 liter V8 considering the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator offer more from their 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6. The 6.2 liter V8 in the Cadillac has been rated at the same 420 horsepower for a couple generations now. I’m surprised that we’re not getting at least an optional 500 horsepower V8 in the Escalade by now.
It's been a little while since I've watched one of your vids Tom. I really like the addition of the Green, Yellow, and Red light segment. May I suggest using bullets to break up each point you're discussing as it would make it easier to decipher while reading along with you. Keep up the great work as always!
I would if it weren't a graphics editing nightmare.
Grand Wagoneer was the first luxury suv not navigator. As usual, great review. Thanks
He is not a car dude, how would he know that? As usual, clueless review.
The 2021 Cadillac Escalade Is Simply The Best Escalade Yet
in 2028 next generation will be the best ever.
Don't be like stupid apple and tim cook.
Another great video cobber keep up the great work 👏
My Cadillac ATS needs a new touchscreen every few years at about $1k per including labor. I can't imagine what the Escalade screens are going to cost to replace. Hopefully Cadillac has figured out how to make them last more than 3 summers. Either way, another GREAT review, Tom! (and I don't even want an Escalade!)
Going to see a lot of these on the road. Not in my driveway, however. I like my analog 20 year old 300k+ mile Sequoia. Still looks good, still comfortable, and still haven't broken the $10k mark in purchase and repair costs in three years of ownership.
I'm probably 20 years away from wanting a vehicle like this (for $80K I'd go F-Pace SVR), but this is flat out spectacular. The "bling" is there, but far less than you'd expect and it looks better because of it; much more mature. The tech, the power, the agility, the comfort....wow. When you are going this big, you probably already have another vehicle for your sporty needs. I love the X5M and similar but once I need a bigger SUV, I find the Euros less appealing. This or Navigator only in this size class. GM will sell fleets of these.
I like this trim a lot better than the excessive chromed out grill trim.
I hate to be that guy who complains about OLED technology being put in new places, but I do wonder if, like on OLED TVs with static interfaces, the screens might suffer some burn-in. Usually brands switching to OLED are very careful to tell everyone about the measures they’ve taken to avoid burn-in, but I’m not hearing much of that from GM. I hope it’s not an issue, because gosh is it ever nice in that cabin, and OLED is exactly the technology that car screens should be using. I’m sure that will make it feel expensive at night in a way that LCD panels just can’t manage. Thanks for the night footage! With all these new cars and their special interior lighting, having shots of it at night is really nice.
GM has pretty demanding durability testing when it comes to electronics. I don't know how it's been tested but that wouldn't be a concern to me. And this is not the first OLED screen is a car so other manufactures have probably been testing as well.
@@DrivenCarReviews Well, good to hear a vote of confidence! There have been other OLED screens in cars? I’m not aware of any!
Excellent review as always, thank you.
Fun fact: The Jeep Wagoneer was the first American luxury SUV, it came out 20 years before the Navigator.
Second review I am watching today. Both cars I wanted to see.
I deleted an Edmunds review of this vehicle from my Watch List because your videos are better.
Oh, the 737 has some juice, but vroom vroom in the KC-10!
Excellent video incredibly beautiful vehicle....
Where did you film the video .
Houses look as nice as the escalade.
Looks like Bloomfield Hills, MI
I'm not an SUV fan, but I like your videos. I don't need to look like a million bucks. I'm planning on buying another used Acura RL soon. It won't be near as comfortable or fast, but it will go anywhere and allow me too retire on schedule. Thanks anyway Cadillac.
Christ that thing is huge. I think it may be classified as a commercial vehicle because of it’s weight in most states.
Caddy on fire. Cant wait for this, the CT5 and CT4 V BlackWings. The interior is gorgeous, I am not sold on the exterior front and side Vs the last gen. So dinstinct from the European and Asian 3 rows. The ultimate cross country family cruiser. And of course there is GM's Corvette. Wow.
I'd love all those features in a reasonably sized SUV.
Genesis is about to come out with an SUV, i'm sure it will blow the doors off of this recall junk box.
Great review as always. Stay safe Tom. Greetings from Indonesia.
Thanks, you too!
Once again, another great review.
You look very good inside of the escalade :) Have a nice day Mr. Voelk
I drove an AWD ESV for a week and got 9 mpg, ever since then I never considered this large a car ever.
I mean, I don't blame you, but those who can afford this vehicle probably could care less about the mpg.
I live in LA where people spend that money to lease this car and live in a studio.

Best review of this new Caddie, thanks Tom
So big it needs its own zip code!
The escalade makes a decent case for itself, but GM is their own worst enemy with this, offering the denali for 80k offers you 90% of the vehicle for 75-80% of the price. In the body on frame nature of this platform, they share the frame, end to end. mechanically on the body they are identical, and you need to get into the top trim of escalade (base price 95k) to get things like air ride suspension, which you can get in the denali and at4 for the mid 70s. Also a lot of interior features are shared. From the second row back on the interior the vehicles are identical, with actually more practicality in the denali (more cubbys in the doors). What really suprised me was the lack of ventilated second row seats in both vehicles, a feature found on a 45,000 dollar palisade. For the front row the seats, dash and console are different shapes and made with different materials (and the escalade has a lot more screen) But personally I think the denali has the better looking, interior that resembles more of the audi/porsche/lambo/bentley interior, whereas the escalade looks like a hybrid of the GLS and X7.
I actually prefer the looks and design of the denali, and other than software locks that keep the augmented reality nav and supercruise out of the denali, and the insane speaker setup, you really aren't missing out on much for 25k. Also the diesel is going to change the game with all these SUV's, as the low end torque and fuel economy will bring a whole new aspect to these that nothing can compete with.
There might be a few people defaulting to Denali to save some money but GM did an excellent job of differentiating the product this time. Almost none of the interior is shared with GMC or Chevy ( I believe the 2nd and 3rd row seat frame structure, headliner and optional entertainment system are it). We will see...
I already like this review more than that of Doug DeMuro and I barely watched 5 minutes
When Ford came out with independent rear suspension in the 2003 Expedition. GM clamed they were keeping live axle because it was better for towing. BS, they didn't want to spend the money at that time.
What is when the germans did it in the 1960s for $1000 Alex.
Great review Tom. There will be a ton of these on the road here in Seattle.

Either every dime. GM motors have long life spans. Keep this baby in the garage when not used, drive it with love and keep it many many years. I enjoyed my yukon for 14 years and sold it still looking and running great.

How is the 6.2 new? It is making the same hp/torque as before.
There is no way a v8 can run on 2 cylinder and not be notice.
3:35 The v8 Escalade is still slower than the v6 Navigator.
This is a great effort by Cadillac, but I'd give up half of these bells and whistles in favor of a better exterior and that is exactly why, in my opinion, the GMC Yukon Denali is the better buy at 84k loaded. I don't think your driving experience would differ very much. I actually prefer the Yukon Denali trim of all in this generation of GM triplets.
3:45 I get the analogy, but not true. Rebuttal 3:49, still not true. 3:54 hahaha, I can’t dispute this since I do not know where you were located at this very moment. Sorry for having fun at your expense, small details amuse me sometimes. Great video, great quality as always, I expect nothing less.

1:53 did someone mess up that stitching or does this come under "hand-crafted" or am I nit-picking things ?
You’re not nitpicking. This is probably one of few pre-production models that Cadillac allowed the press to drive.

@@studio-flash watch it in 4k maybe then you'll be able to see what I am on about. It is minor but it is what eez.
People that buy this won’t care! Truer words never spoken.
I wonder how the huge OLEDs up front will prevent screen burn- in, especially displaying the same static images for long periods of time? My guess: Cadillac hasn't even thought of that problem. TV manufacturers still haven't figured out how to prevent burn-in on an OLED, so I highly doubt Cadillac has.
Especially OLEDs at high brightness.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.
Sounds about right. Ka-ching.
Nice, but god help you once the tech fails.
Can say that about any modern car.
People who can afford to pay $100k for a suv, can afford to fix the tech.
Gimme analog guages.
I would go for GMC Yukon XL Denali
Though GM catches a lot of flak. I was always impressed, from a financial standpoint, with how GM managed to sell what was essentially a leather and plastic chrome lined pickup truck, for top tier lux, six figure price points.... Credit where it's due. Even if it is extremely wasteful, bad for the environment, etc. etc. Profit is profit, Murica!
Though at least it's got an interior more befitting the price point now. Much better looking inside.
Aren't all cars made of plastic, leather and chrome?
@@studio-flash Well, some of them have real chrome in places, which is nice... But it is better to not have giant grilles made of real chrome, too heavy and more dangerous.
As soon as they add reliability, I will buy one.

Interesting that the diesel is a no-cost option, though it's the 3 liter - not the 6+ liter
Great review Tom!
great review of a BIG machine. KUDOS
When the warranty ends, RIP Cadillac owners.
Mine's been out of warrantee for nearly 2 years. Haven't spent a dime on it.
Ford Motor Company especially Alan Mullally had abandoned Lincoln as a cost-cutting measure, and, as a result, the Lincoln Navigator suffered financial abuse from being all-new and better until the likes of Jim Farley, among some others, who persuaded Bill Ford to invest heavily into the Lincoln brand with billions of risky money; however, the bills were paid and the all-new for 2018 Lincoln Navigator was born in 20 years. Yet, Cadillac has outsold the Navigator for years and years, but I blames Ford’s executives for letting that happen. If Ford invested in the Navigator like they do the F-series they would have been champion for over 20 years.
Fantastic review Tom
a diesel? maybe we'll see this over here in Europe then. if the General can put some proper warranty on it one might be inclined. mercedes' up to 12 years (5 yrs bumper-to-bumper) warranty is the one to match...

I'm sorry, but it took Cadillac 15+ years to match the Navigator's IRS? And IMHO, the Lincoln interior is still more luxurious; the only other vehicle that drew more attention than the Navigator at the Tampa auto show was the mid-engine Corvette.
