Hi Melissa, I love your videos and have learned from them. I was surprised to learn that you are 38 years old. I thought you were in your late twentys. I am 68 years old and I'm from central Texas. My husband has a brother that lives in Atlanta, GA. I have always loved plants and started with about 6 or 7 of them. My collections has grown to about 25 now. I even started my first moss pole after watching your video. I also love your cats, lol. I have a black and white cat that is now 18 , not sure how much longer he will be with me. I recently bought a humidifier for the plants. Can you explain how many hours a day that you should use it, Or is you use it only a few days? Any details would be greatly appreciated. Jackie.
Hi Jackie!! Thank you so much and I am so happy you are growing your collection of plants and you started your first moss pole 🥹 I'm glad I can be here and help! 18 years is amazing! We had another set of cats before these 3 and a dog. It's so hard to not have them with us anymore but we'll always remember them 🥹 Yep! I turned 38 in January :) I'll take that I look younger now though 😁 For the humidifier - I actually don't need one where I live here in Savannah. Most days humidity stays over 50% which is plenty for most plants. I have one but I rarely run it. Some humidifiers can auto run off and on based off the current room humidity and what humidity level you want it to reach. If you have a hygrometer it can tell you what your current humidity is then run it based off of that number. They're pretty inexpensive and I have a few of them throughout. Some people run them all the time in a dry climate and on days that are more humid then you can turn it off. You just have to refill it with water often the more it runs. Plants appreciate humidity but you definitely don't have to have high humidity all the time to grow happy plants! I think 50% is a good number though!
I got addicted to the Curious Plant! They have the cutest plants, I felt like a little girl opening a surprise present! They give me so much joy! Looking forward to see your terrarium, I did one for my son and now we have 5 in the house 😅!
I never heard of them before! I'm glad they popped up in my google search. Their website has so many different varieties! I'll definitely buy more from them. The terrarium was so fun to do 🥰 I can see how it can easily become 5 haha 🫶
I LOVE the plants from “Curious Plant”. I have tons of different plants from them, and I’ve never been disappointed. They’re really kind people too, and always willing to answer your questions. Enjoy your plants! 😀🥰
@@plantsbymelissa I had to buy another after watching your video 🫣 I wish I could upload a photo and show you my collection. They’re all from that place, and I have 8? 9? I’m a sucker for the Droseras. They’re all so beautiful!
Pings are SO cute! I have two and I love them so much. I just watched a video the other day that said you could crush beta fish food with a little bit of water and make a paste to feed your carnivorous plants. I think I'm going to try it since I also do not have many fungus gnats around!
I wished I got into them sooner! oh cool! that's good to know about beta fish food to feed them. You'll have to share if you give it a go and how it turns out 🥰
I’ve done that with beta fish food, applied it onto the leaves with a dropper, and my droseras and pings seemed to be fine with it. Your pink pings are adorable, btw. If looking for more pings, you should also check out the Pinguicula Cyclosecta, it’s gorgeous.
You can also put them outside, full sun, when it isn’t too cold, to get any random bugs flying nearby. That's what I've done with mine and thy've done great. Just remember to bring them back in if it's going to be cool at night.
How funny! When the video started I immediately thought about suggesting a local carnivorous plant business here in the Charleston area, and it was Hunters Flytraps! My goal is to learn more about the couple of plants that I have and maybe develop a bog of carnivorous plant babies!❤ can’t wait to see what you do with all of these cuties.❤
Carnivorous plants are addicting lol. I love setting up terrariums and little bogs that are darker versions of fairy gardens. Have fun with them they are beautiful plants.
Hey Melissa, interesting haul. I'm not a fan of these ones but am always interested to see how you find them and how they grow in your care. Happy growing 😁
Fun to see your new carnivorous plants. After watching, I had a strong urge to eat beef so I grilled cheeseburgers for my family and a couple friends. I don’t have any carnivorous plants but my human family is definitely carnivorous! Hmmmmm? Will your excellent plant shopping excursions now include stops at your local butcher? lol. Anyway, good luck with your new plants. Oh, before I forget I learned a new word usage today; Pings. Now I know that pings can mean something other than a brand of golf clubs. Thanks for the video.
Love this video, such unique plants, looking forward to the making of the terrarium and most of all love your expressions as you see your new plant for the first time,so sweet. Char
BAHAHAHAH I absolutely love how the video starts. I told myself I wouldn't buy more plants but then I get into a plant buying mood and idk what happens! hahahahah I couldn't relate more 😂
I have my Butterwort and sundews in fluval stratum in a terrarium I got from target a year ago and they thrive! The fungus gnats still get through the wooden ball at the top 😂
haha not the gnats sneaking in!! I remember those target terrariums! I think I still have one in my garage in an extra storage bin. That's good to know they do well in stratum!
I love pings and they are easy to care for but I have trouble finding them, not got any pink ones which I hope one day I can get. Sundews are adorable, they just seem to die on me but I keep trying to make them happy
I loved them...omg small, cute little babies. lol. Super cute . Put it in your small cabinet, the miniature ones, it will be great their coz lights & humidity if you scared of mixing them right away 👌♥️👍
@plantsbymelissa Ooh.aaaw. yes, I'm definitely excited to see. I want those plants, too. But it is so expensive, lol. Maybe in May or June, I can get one. & make the same thing . But yes, those plants are amazing . I can't wait to see what you have done to them 😅😁👌👍
They’re all so cute! I wouldn’t be able to pick a favourite. If you didn’t want to put them in your cabinet could you swap out the plants you have in your smaller Akerbar to isolate them for a bit if it’s not too much work?
They're so cute! I built the terrarium already! hehe this was prefilmed a couple weeks ago. I built it a few days after the unboxing I was so excited for it!
I know I'm a little late but keep in mind that Pings need a crap ton of direct light! So, you're going to need a really powerful grow light for your carnies. A regular grow light won't be enough.
I am definitely going to be exploring these carnivorous plants later in the year, so thanks for two additional sellers. May I suggest Gulley’s Greenhouse, as well? They suspended live plant shipping for the winter, but should resume soon. I am obsessed with their packaging from previous years. I love the Droseras with their fun shaped leaves. I am eager to see how they do for you!
Another good source for carnivorous plants is California Carnivores. They've been in the business for decades, and the owner wrote The Savage Garden, an awesome book on growing the plants.
oh awesome! I try to avoid plant shops that tend to be on the west coast since it's so far away from me but I'll definitely check them out! I appreciate you for sharing! :)
Ok, I was super confused by "bare root" for shipping, I've been looking at websites to purchase from too. Here I was thinking something like, bulbs for flowers...lmao~
Pings love pon sitting in a little bit of water in the catch they generally grow in crevasses in rock walls ill definitely be looking at these sites generally dont order plants online but pings are difficult to find around me
So interested to see how these plants work for you. I have a lot of good luck with every other plant but carnivorous ones. Can you please show updated? I would love to know what I’m doing wrong. Thanks 🙂
The terrarium will be the next video posted and they all seem to be doing well so far! The only other carnivorous plant I owned was a Venus flytrap and it didn't make it - not sure what happened 😬
If you keep them on your desk and you're sitting there one day and you smell something...😂 it's probably the plants. I had one before. Unfortunately it didn't make it but there's a reason they call them butterworts 😅
There’s so many more plants I want to buy especially with spring in site. Unfortunately I’m having a thrip outbreak for the first time. It’s absolutely horrific 😢. So no new plants right now.
Be very careful getting into terrariums. You may just find yourself a whole new addiction lol. I started with aquariums, then bonsai, and just started terrariums/paludariums. I'm constantly thinking of new landscapes to create with different species.
I haven't grown them before but I probably wouldn't do intense light or a lot of sun like cacti. Sorry about your ping 🥹 I have my terrarium currently sitting under a barrina light and so far so good!
OMG THESE ARE ADORABLE!! 😍😍😍 100000% cutest plant mail.
so stinkin cute!!

I agree this is one of the cutest plant mail 💌📬 📦 packages. I love them all! So tiny and adorable 🌵💚🌱🖤🌿
Tiny plants are so cute!! 🌸🫶
Me also searching for Pings, not finding a good site, coming here and finding this - perfect site! Thank you!! 🖤
The tall drosera that is green with curled tips of the branches is my favorite. It does look like a dr Seuss tree.
haha yes it does! It's so cool!
Those pings made me want pings!!! They are sooo CUTE!!!🤩😍
My fave is the first pink, "stinkin' cute" one. And in the 2nd group, the red hairy one. 😊
The little pink one is adorable! 😭
Im excited for the terrarium. I like them all too...soOoo cuuuuuute 👍🌼📬💦💌🌵
I'm excited to share it! It will be the next video posted so a day early next week!

Awesome pings & love the curly sundew. Thanks for sharing Melissa!

I have a couple of sundews in moss and they grow extremely well. Have to water often though. They have way less gnats to eat now that I use nematodes.
The sundews are so cool! I don't know why I didn't branch out and get some before. Happy yours are growing for you! 🥰

Fantastic! Can’t wait to see it all done.
Melissa, carnivorous plants eat the bugs. That's why they're so great! No worries of thrips or anything. The bugs get stuck on their dew!
I've seen people post about getting thrips on their pings/sundews and they show them walking around no problem! The stinkers are indestructible!
That doesn't surprise me at all 😔 thrips are awful!

I'm so very sorry 😣 I know how that feels and don't wish that on anyone. I hope they are gone soon for you! 🥹
Just a heads-up, carnivorous plants can get thrips! The stinkers can evade the stickiness, so be careful!
And apparently they can get aphids as well
Hi for the filiformis one I don't know if it's the best for a terrarium because she need to go dormant in winter so she need to be outside
oh good to know! I didn't realize they can go dormant or need that. I have some research to do! 🙏
@@plantsbymelissaYeah most of them need to go dormant but fortunately for you, you didn't take plants except for the filiformis that go dormant

I wish I could find a store in the UK that didn't send their absolute worst plants to customers. It's on purpose at this point.
oh no I am so sorry! 😢
not trying to be funny but if you don't have any fungus gnats go get some fruit you'll get some 😅
