Outstanding detailed shots. Showing how things look from inside the door and then showing the part after it is removed really helps to understand what things look like when doing the actual repair.
Hi Francis thanks for stopping by. I prefer working on my car over taking it to a shop and when I work on other people's car it's free I don't charge anyone.
Excellent video. I agree with Lucas B. The way you zoomed in and out really helped to understand where you were working and how you were getting the tools into the door.
Thanks for this video .. It was great the way you showed the far away view and then panned in on the screws to remove - that way, it was much easier to see where you were working ( .. another video just showed close-ups and it was hard to see where the cap/cover and screw were located )
One more thing, instead of paying more to get one that color matched, I spent less than the difference (between standard black handle approx $7 and the color matched one approx $16) and bought a can of perfect match spray paint approx $7. Your paint codes should be on the drivers door sticker to match it up with "Perfect Match." I scuffed the handle lightly with some high grit sand paper, cleaned it good, used some primer I had lying around, and then sprayed it with color match. It worked perfectly, I saved a few bucks, and I had over half a can left for some touch ups (scratches and shit like that) here and there around the body. Just thought I'd mention my approach in case someone would want to do it that way for themselves.
Video is good but the quickest and easiest way is .. First u pop out and disconcert that handle rod rod with a long handle screwdriver ... And then take out the two top bolts and the handle will come out just enough where u can disconnect the lock rod .... Replace back the same way but do not tighten front bolt tight at all as you or going to have to have some play in it to install that outer bolt ... Then tighten them up and Snap handle rod back into place I had to put wd on it so it would pop back in the new one easier ... Put back together every thing and you or good to go..... It only took a hour from star to finished if you tackle it like this ...Cheers
This job is a PITA on a 96 avalon. I would seriously recommend that if you're doing the passenger front door...consider how often you actually need to open that door with a key, especially if you have keyless entry. Just swap the door without disassembly - wish I'd gone that route before tearing it all apart.
Good vid. Never ever have seen so many ads. It would be helpful to mention the bolt head sizes when removing bolts. Also, what is the size of the new bolts for the new handle?
I recorded this back in 2017, so I don't remember. I did forward it and took a look at 22:16. So one end of the rod clip to the top and IF YOU ARE ASKING WHERE THE OPPOSITE END OF THE ROD CLIP ON TO? I only watch from about 21:10 to about 23:00. I don't think I did anything to the opposite end of the rod. If you need more help, let me know I'll look into this farther.
The window blocks access to the bolts. That's why you rolled it back up. You just say that it would make it easier to take the panel off. Though I'm not sure why. Maybe if you need leverage to pry it off and the window is in the way.
Should have left the window up originally. Also you are missing 4 clips along the bottom. Someone has been in there before, that is why you are missing most of your clips and the plastic barrier.
My problem is the new door handles came with new screw hardware and the old screw hardware doesn’t fit the Hold in on the new door handle and I can’t find anything that fits
Toyota needs to come up with a better plastic for their cars. I have a 1999 and I've change the driver door handle this is my 3rd one. The car has almost a half million miles on it and still going . Even the plastic connectors under the hood have all broken, Just not very good plastic. But I found it easier to take out the 2 top bolts out because they hold in the handle. Then from the out side lift up on the handle and pull it out. Then unhook the linkage on the key lock part then you can take the cylinder out on the out side and put it in the new one ( bottom bolt only ) because the 2 top bolts hold in the handle. then putting in the new one hook up the key linkage first the put in the handle in then last put last 2 bottom bolts.
Dude, I had the exact troubles you had doing this. My wife was wondering what was taking me so long to install the handle. I bitched about every issue you mentioned here, at the time I did mine. I showed her this video and she immediately realized what I was complaining about at the time is common to others trying to do this also. Then I slapped her in the face and told her to make me a sandwich. LOL j/k
you got that crap after market" Toyota part on Ebay right? I had the same problem and could only get one screw into the door frame to hold the handle in..piece of crap after market. the original does not have a threaded screw in the toyota is just a non thread hole that uses a plastic to make hole with heavy metl screw

Thanks!
Massively helpful. You are the man! My drivers new doorhandle arrived yesterday. Now I know how to put it in. Thanks so much!

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Mr. Vue for showing all the little details and also mentioning that the bolts might not fit the replacement handle.
This was the best video I seen doing this I will be using this one for sure

thanks Welking, This is going to make my repair less difficult.
Real world DIY repair. Thanks for the video.
Have to do this very thing on my girlfriends 99 Camry. Passenger side though so it's the reverse angle for me. Thanks for creating the video!

Thank you.sir.my.2004avalon.handle.broke.now,i.can.fix.it.brother
Great video.
Cool, thank you!

How to replace the POS Camry exterior door handle.
At 22:16. The rod. Beside it clicking up top, where does it lock in the bottom of that rod. I can't figure it our.

The bolts or 6mm by 12mm
I'm still trying to figure out why you had to roll the window down. I guess just to roll it back up? Nice food prep gloves. Cracking me up bro!
This recording was done a while back I don't remember unless I watch it again. I think I had to roll the window down to get access to the bolts.

Thank bro. I needed the lesson
Why did you list this under Toyota Avalon
What is ir the function of the metallic cylinder on the other side of the door handle?
My problem is the new door handles came with new screw hardware and the old screw hardware doesn’t fit the Hold in on the new door handle and I can’t find anything that fits
If you can rephrase that I can try help.

Do their M6 metric 6 mm and the most important part of the video you cut out which is putting everything back
