One of the things that really rubs me wrong about this movie is the massive body count. First with random Enterprise crew flying into space, and then perhaps a million killed by the Vengeance’s crash into downtown San Francisco. And then they ask us to care about one or two people? Naw. No. Same thing with the destruction of Vulcan in the previous movie. And then Abrams does it again in Force Awakens.
Also, as long as I am here, I might as well touch on the “Khan!” line. In Star Trek II, Kirk is acting. He’s not actually angry. He knows he’s already spoke in code to Spock. It’s purely to sell the con to Khan. (And to the audience.) Meanwhile, in this, Spock’s scream is genuine? I guess so. Which is fine on its own. But Kirk’s trembling “No” in Wrath of Khan is so devastating, and they decided to transpose a famous line from a completely different scene to this moment? Um, okie dokie then.
@@Bnio Yes and no. It's not like Kirk knew he was going to get out and win. It was still very likely Kahn would end transmission and then go and blast what was left of the Enterprise. Remember, he could still outrun and out gun them.
I have only seen the first of the 'newer' Chris Pine-led Trek films and maybe the occasional episode ages ago that i couldn't tell you anything about, I just like listening to you guys talk about stuff! I plan on giving the series a proper go in the near future thanks to this pod
I can't believe Into Darkness is popular. It's so bad. I don't know *any* Trek fan who liked it, not even among the ones who never saw Wrath of Khan. Thank god Beyond was fun.
The problem with this movies premise; the Enterprise is the most advanced ship in the fleet, designed to explore deep space, but it's just hanging around Earth while starfleet aggressively goes out and starts exploring because of the events of the first film.
As someone who has only ever watched these two Abrams films, I remember coming out of this one particularly and thinking it was absolute shit.. and yeah that Khaaaan! line was like.. 'okay? And?'
These first two movies are just bloated fan films. If you only know Star Trek from these two movies you can't understand why Kirk and Spock are friends since they're always in conflict. Sorry but these replacements are not as great as the original's actors. There was no reason to have Khan in the movie especially a whitewashed one.
Surely you have to do a bonus round of galaxy quest

Spock shouting "KHAAAN!" got laughs in the showing I went to. I like the movie, but I still laugh at that moment.
send the Rob warhead to my direction, I need a reason to do the LOTR marathon :-D
I’ll take a rob in a warhead 🤣 I need a good gaming partner

JJ Trek is so bad that it propelled Rob into fandom of real Trek.
J. J. Abrams is a one trick pony. Films that appear to be made by a ten year old boy, with ADHD, on cocaine. His career is a mystery box. ✌🏾
