    Hi Brittany, thank you so much for taking the time to review the 180 Days of Spelling and Word Study series. As the creator of these books, I want you to know I appreciate all your kind words and take your feedback seriously. I'm very excited to announce that I've started creating "kick-off" lessons for each unit and am publishing them for free on my UA-cam Channel: 180 Days of Spelling & Word Study w/ Mrs. Rhoades. Each interactive lesson introduces the new word list, draws the viewer's attention to important spelling patterns, rules, and affixes, and provides kid-friendly definitions for the vocabulary. The videos are great for homeschoolers, parents looking to provide their children with a little extra support or enrichment, and classroom teachers. I hope you and your viewers enjoy the videos as much as my students do!

    This review was incredibly helpful! Thank you! My son and daughter, who are both in second grade, are both struggling with spelling. They are excellent readers, like far beyond the second grade level. But my son especially has trouble spelling most words. I've decided to supplement this second semester with some extra spelling practice, and FOR NOW this helped confirm that I feel good about moving forward with Evan Moor at this time. Looking at the curriculum, I almost went down to level 1, because the struggle is so real. But I feel good about starting with second grade level now; after hearing this review. I will definitely keep the 180 days on my mind though for possible future curriculum when they are stronger spellers.

    This is such a well done comparison and review video, thanks so much!!! I just got Evan-Moor's Spelling in for my 6 year old, which we'll start in the summer. ( We do year round homeschool.) I found your breakdown of the EM to be very helpful since I've never used any of the EM workbooks before. We're coming off of using Abeka and TGTB the year before that. Anyway, I wanted to throw this out there to any one that might be looking for extra activities to have their children do with spelling is to have them write their spelling words 5x's each every day before their test. My mom had me do that when I was in public school and I never once missed a spelling word in my life. I got word meaning from reading a lot in elementary and junior high. 😄

    We are using All About Spelling, but I will have to keep 180 Days Of Spelling in mind for the future. We are using 180 days for part of our social studies next year. They have great content.

    I have heard great things about the 180 days of spelling! I have it on my list as a possibility for next year, I love that it gets to the meaning of the words too not just spelling them. You showing this made me realize it has so much more meat to it than I originally thought! :)

      I like how 180 days seems to work, but I'm told by our hst with charter that it is considered a supplemental resource and not a primary source as it supposedly doesn't meet CA standards 🤷‍♀️

    We settled on Spelling Dictation by Spelling Plus years ago and it was wonderful. We saved a lot of money over buying yearly workbooks and my son loved it.

    Very nice review. We have Evan Moor but switched to something else because it was a bit redundant. I like the variety in 180 days. Will definitely check it out. Thanks!

    Totally agree with Evan moor…it’s great, but you would need to level up unless you have a struggling speller. We used the 5th day as a spelling test. 180 days looks good too! I like the diversity of exercises!

    I have been trying to decide between Evan Moor and Soaring with Spelling & Vocabulary. 180 of Spelling is new to me and seems to have a few similarities to SWS&V - I seem to be leaning towards one of these due to the varying activities. Thanks for the comparison!

    On our spelling test day they write out one word in a sentence then they circle the part of speech I pick for them. Helps make sure they keep them in working memory.

    I have a weak speller. I ordered 180 days today, but a level below, which sounds like I made the right choice there after your review. I’m hoping that the 5 activities per week will drive the lists home. The last one we used had fun activities, but my child absolutely memorized the words just enough to retain for the week, then brain dumped them instead of building on them.

    I love all of your videos. I have watched all of them and they have tremendously helped in my 1st year as a homeschool stay at home mom. Could you do a video on your daily school schedule? I know you’ve done day in the life videos, but I’m not sure if I’ve seen a daily schedule video. If so, could you tag the video?

    This was great. After a year in, which do you prefer? We have a struggling speller and have been using EM and started 180 days but find that he gets distracted with all the activities. I feel like his brain can’t process both learning to spell at the same time. I found out since by the end of a week, we tried implementing tests and he can hardly spell, sometimes isn’t even sure how to read some words. The word lists are pretty advanced for sure. Wondering how you find it. Maybe you have more recent videos on it. I’ll have to check. Thanks for all your fun, wonderful content by the way!

    Hello Brittany. I know that you have toddlers. Have you thought about what math you are going to start with when your toddler becomes an kindergarten? My grandson goes to public school. I'm always working with him at home. I want to invest in a math curriculum. But it's overwhelming trying to decide on a math curriculum. What would you suggest? Since this school year is almost over, I want to start with 1st grade math curriculum. I've been looking at Saxon, Math with Confidence and Singapore. Any advice?

    • @brittanyolga
      @brittanyolga  2 роки тому +1

      I have narrowed it down to my top 3 choices for my preschoolers for math. I am considering Math-u-see, Abeka k-3, and Saxon Math. When my daughter was in public school for k-2 I always worked with her with math during the summer. My favorite books were BrainQuest and Scholastics Math Workbooks. Best of luck with everything! Hopefully this helps. 😍
