- New show! Don’t worry, Binging isn’t going anywhere, but I’m on vacation and it seemed like a great time to premiere our new series, Botched by Babish, where I seek redemption from episodes (aka mistakes) of old. This week on the inaugural episode, I’m joined by the incomparable Matty Matheson, who’s got some choice words about my take on his homeland’s national dish!

Don’t worry y’all, Binging isn’t going anywhere, I’m just on vacation this week! Hope you like the new show - Binging returns to its usual time next week!
i don't like these kind of video from you sorry
I have to admit I was nervous when there wasn't an upload in the typical time!!
@SpanishExquisition he's going to Hungary! And then to turkey! And I can't think of a place that means full...
here before you changed the thumbnail
I just subscribed you right now
Fun fact: Matty isn;t even mic'd up. Andrew just can hear him from Canada.
😂😂😂
I know he keeps me up at night......MICHELLE!!!!
Must be a super power or something
He really is incredibly loud.
That tracks
"so its a show about fixing our mistakes?"
"yep"
"ok so whats the format?"
"one giant string of outtakes"
sold
it feels like a much, much, MUCH, MUUUCH more tame Just A Dash
And I love it lol
SIGN ME THE F**K UP
Love the pitch. Super easy, barely an inconvenience.
@@FortMaxSG I just discovered that channel and I love this synchronicity
After so many shows where he tries to be as professional as could reasonably be expected, it’s nice to have a series where it’s just “Descending into Madness with Babish”.

@@anonym0sender that should be the name
never would've imagined andrew had this much crackhead energy
I felt it. That’s why I was happy to see he’s showing it more
This is an absolute acid trip of a babish episode and I dig it
I'm so confused yet so happy.
Yeah seems very Matty influenced. Matty's show is like watching somebody experience a bad trip
I dig that you know how an acid trip feels too
@@trevorpenner2057 Yeah thats part of the joke Josh from Mythical kitchen did the same thing to babish
I hope this vibe continues ✨
Why do I feel like his channel is like being friends with an introvert. At first it's all professional and very serious but over time he gets more comfortable with you and you get to see all the weird and quirky sides lol
You described it perfectly lol.
But like literally
Ya didn't have'ta call us out like that ☺️
its great
Sounds like a perfectly balanced relationship. As all relationships should be. Weird and quirky because you're comfortable with your partner
I always knew Babish had this side. It just took an entire country calling him out on their national dish to bring it out
As a Canadian, thank you for this video. I didn't have the heart to comment in the first poutine video that it was wrong, so the acknowledgement here is appreciated lol
Keep up the great work!!
this is the most Canadian comment ever
@@happy-xv8gn thank you for acknowledging that!
@@brandonwood5639 ,
I still disapprove as a Quebecois, sorry
Welcome to Breakdowns with Babish where each week we watch Andrew slowly descend into the depths of madness
"slowly"
Yes please!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this Breakdowns with Babish. Hahahah a
Soon he will break down completely and join Michael from Vsauce in the depths of UA-camr madness
same
I want to believe this is what every episode is like before post production. Pure artisanal chaos
@Regdu Geht I think you put this comment in the wrong place
Matheson has that effect 😂
If you can't grow your own chaos, store bought is fine
Perhaps I need to get blud a dictionary
My cooking skill :
Expectation : Binging with Babish.
Reality : Botched with Babish.
Babish done goofed
I've never heard Matty talk before, and I definitely didn't expect him to sound like Gilbert Gottfried.
Like Gilbert Gottfried had the spirit of Jack Black
Came here for this. Only person to be able to do a Gilbert Gottfried impersonation w/o trying.
R.I.P.
@@shaunm9015Even Gottfried had to try.
Watching babish be as hectic as matty while cooking only shows that cooking matty’s recipes is the reason for the madness
It feels like watching Vsauce. But only with poutine
Babish is always chaotic, I think it’s just editing that saves us
Who is Matty?
Making his lasagna was truly maddening and delicious so I think its worth
false.
You have to use “Thanks for Botching!” From now on
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is like a normal Binging episode but Andrew is progressively having a mental breakdown the further into the recipe he gets.
Please do more.
this is honestly my favorite Babish episode ever. love the rough cuts. unpolished is the best babby baby
Every time Babish looks at the camera in this episode, i can see the spark of madness twinkle behind his eyes. it was always there, but watching it unleashed is a joy.
Definitely. Also getting strong Ryan Reynolds vibes.
This really feels like Babish: After Hours staring Babish (on two hours of sleep) and guest staring his sleep paralysis demon Matty Matheson and I’m here for it
HONESTLY
I wish there were more videos in this style, not even needing to be botched but these are my favourite types of videos where you get to see all the fun interactions between everyone
why do I get the feeling that everyone is high AF
Matty Matheson
**Mason ray parker has entered the chat**
When we’re all high af it’s like no one is high af
Shhh.. That's the secret ingredient in the gravy... Totally legal in Canada and in Canadian cuisine 😁🇨🇦..
Because you are right.
I’ve never heard poutine described better. “A futuristic matter sludge that you just eat.”
randomly reading this as he said it
It's not wrong though lol
Accurate
To this day I’m constantly surprised by the difference in his voice over scripts and live recordings. He’s such a pleasantly weird guy
I'm sure the difference in mics contributes; the lapel mic is going to have very different acoustics from whatever radio-style mic he uses for the voiceovers. It's probably the same mic they use on NPR.
Andrew is a stoner, so it makes sense that he’s more aloof off the cuff.
This has, like, massively sleep-deprived vibes that make me fear for the safety of everyone involved tbh
Soak the fries in water for an hour. Then fry at two temps (325 and 375). That's how you get a fry with soft fluffy interior and crunchy exterior. Also, there's no excuse to ever peel a potato for fries. Overall great video; look forward to checking more out.
I feel like any time you can see Andrew's face, the episode is guaranteed to be exceedingly chaotic. It's like gazing unto the face of an Old One.
He's learning from Matty for sure
I was thinking that with those mouth noises into the mic.
Anyone who watches Matty's channel knows what happened here - some kind of chaos transference from above the border to Andrew's kitchen.
The beard hideth a mass of feelers
Wow, I hadn't made that connection before, but you're totally right
I love how Matty's chaos spreads to whatever he touches.
yeah babish is like a painfully unfunny version of matty in this
@@fogman900 i was thinking this exact thing, guys trying way too hard to be funny or whatever he calls it
They’re trying too hard to match that just a dash energy.
I think he's a bad influence on our Babby.
Not wrong.
I love this very relaxed version of Babish! I hope he does more of these.
There is nothing like digging into a plate of poutine after a night of drinking on George Street. Keeps the hangovers away!
When I seen those onions I was getting scared but I cried a tear of pure maple syrup when I seen him strain them bad boys out. Id be all about this poutine.
The only question I have is: Behind all those pristinely shot Basics and Binging videos, is the background like... this??? This chaotic energy is EVERYTHING
This is an homage to how Matty’s videos are :)
Babish is just insane
Andrew getting slowly infected with the same madness that got to Michael from Vsauce is an interesting turn of events
ahhh yes the chaos virus that only effects bald UA-camrs with beards and glasses
watch out Simon Whistler it's coming for you
The bald mans curse
He is just imitating Matty. Though whatever the sickness is I have it also.
@@AG.Floats Isn't the 'sickness' just having done lots of acid in the past?
I don’t know about you but I’m down with the sickness
This is some kind of chaotic energy and I am _here_ for it.
Also, asking "is it out of control" while plating was so appropriate. I've never even had poutine but from everything I've been told, if it's not out of control it probably isn't poutine.
i LOVE this much more candid style of filming, it feels so genuine and reminds me of the old Bon Appetit style videos (RIP). Looking forward to more of this series
This is like chilling with babish non professional and just making poutine with no script, i like that
Yeah
Couldn’t agree more. Love this!!!!
Yeah this format is great fun to watch
It's done in true Matty form.
Andrew: So I’ve got this new episode idea.
Everyone: What’s the format?
Andrew: Chaos.
I like it a lot lol it was really entertaining to see Andrew, "out of character".
The editor throwing in the recipe clips is really trying to hold it together.
Everyone: And we love it
This is slightly relaxed, go watch just a dash to see actual chaos
As a Quebecer I approve this delicious looking poutine.
The substitutionof Berthelet industrial gravy with actual proper gravy is a very nice touch that I hope to replicate one day !
I just need Babish to do a crossover with that dude who does all the “True Facts” videos (zefrank I think?) - I don’t know what the content of that crossover would be about, but I think it’d be fun.
Ah I can hear it now "Because that is how the Babish deew."
It was actually a really nice experience to see Babish and the crew having fun like this. I think it'd be great if you tossed in an episode like this from time to time.
It could be a feature of the "Botched with Babish" remakes. Plus it's "free" content, since you're redoing it right hahaha
It reminds me of Josh tbh
Feels like they tried a bit too hard to be Brad Leone in this one
I imagine this is how every episode of Binging is before the voice-over happens
definitely
He's doing a parody of Matty
I'm from Quebec and I'm proud of this new poutine you made.
This entire episode was just watching him gradually lose his mind over poutine
Now I’m going to imagine this craziness every episode and assume that the voiceover was created to cover it
It feels like that's exactly how it is. This was so fun to watch, and I hope it happens more often.
Honestly, having more of a raw Andrew is what this show has been needing.
That’s the opposite of true
Definitely not
I think it is cool yes but he is in control of his own channel
Is that your honest truth?
Really?
Literally Nobody asked. And that’s true.
why these replies so heated lol
Les Québécois are here to tell you this looks like a mighty fine poutine! The only thing we'd do different in QC are the fries. We generally use RED potatoes actually and do a double-fry. We're looking for brown, kinda greasy potatoes that are only crisp on the outside edges and mealy soft inside. If you look at Québec poutines you'll notice that our fries are brown, not gold.
Binging With Babish: Even keeled, relaxed, at peace
Botched By Babish: The prelude to a mental breakdown
At "Maybe mymost controversial episode of all time: that's right, poutine" every Italian ever scoffed audibly
Imagine for a second that someone made a "traditional" polenta, but subbed the cheeses for Velveeta. Cheese curds are so common in Quebec that just about every convenience store has bags of them at the counter.
To be fair, Babish actively "botched" the Poutine episode- the carbonara episode was him knowingly deviating from tradition.
German chiming in.. The Christmas Stollen episode though 💀💀💀 Sir, that was fruit cake. It was way off. I'd love a Botched episode for that because he really didn't do the thing justice.

This video has major "Invited my friends over so they would be impressed by my cooking but I am actually very self conscious about it" energy. And I feel that Babby
I'm here with you same. We should start a support group
My people! Yes, let's start a group. Then we can all be uncomfortably self-conscious together, lol.
I loved how candid this series is. This is possibly my favorite Babish video yet
i think this is probably the best video you've ever made. your natural humor and personality being able to shine in the less scripted format is so SO enjoyable !!
The chaotic style of botched by babish is, honestly, cathartic
This show is unapologetically chaotic and I love it.
This might be my favourite episode thus far so well done to you all. Nice to see the more adlib free film feel with less editing. Also seeing all the crew behind working hard but also being involved was a great addition.
Matty’s the angriest Canadian I’ve ever heard up to now
I really like this more causal format of just goofing around and having fun and not worrying so hard about maintaining the fourth wall. It ends up feeling much more personal and comfy.
EXACTLY this. A nice change of pace.
I didn’t know Babish could get this chaotic but I’m here for it
Poutine needs to be in a bowl Babish! ❤️😂 much love from QUÉBÉC 💕
this made me shed a tear of joy as a canadian, thank you andrew
as a native Montrealer, I can proudly say that babish has successfully made a classic poutine and I couldn't be more proud of our neighboUr to the south (and matty of course)
Ok, I love Andrew as much as anyone but that poutine sauce was whack. Who puts cream in their poutine gravy??
Native montrealer? I assume west island.
@@chrislarin1724 I mean it’s a cheating way but it still works and to your second comment no
as a native drummondvillois, i can say that the gravy was wack af and the fries were a bit too big
As a fellow Montrealer I agree.
these videos vibe feels like he got woken up at 3 in the morning by a call from matty demanding him to fix his poutine that moment. which I loved every moment of this video
I love the absolute silliness of this episode. I hope this series keeps that!
Does anyone else think that Babish’s new kitchen could use another light or two?
On occasion, yes. Most of the time, No. The lighting has been great so far except a view hit or miss angles. Hasn't been on the videos long enough to be considered noteworthy imo ..... but I can notice the difference
I feel like if Andy and Matty were friends as kids- Andy's Mom wouldn't let him hang out with Matty sometimes because she doesn't like how wound up Andy gets when he sees Matty.
hahahaha
If anyone here hasn’t seen Matty’s Just a Dash series I can seriously recommend it!
No thanks. I could barely make it through the opening segment of this video thanks to his horrendous voice.

I’m only 5 minutes in and I adore this. This energy is odd and immaculately chaotic AND educational (now I wanna make poutine)
This show is absolute chaos and I loved every moment of it
"The alchemy of the poutine" is a phrase I can't actually say I'm surprised to hear on this channel, I love this.

@@alexandreracine8348 I love it!

As a Canadian from Ontario and a Poutine connoisseur, I think this was slightly over complicated however very well executed! My instructions would be: make your crunchy favorite fries (not shoestring), thick beef or combination beef/chicken/peppercorn gravy (everyone has their favorite) and ABSOLUTELY use squeaky fresh cheese curds! Layering is a great thing to make sure your fries at the bottom don't end up with no cheese on the second half of your meal. This video was awesome!
I went to Quebec with my friends and we went to 8 different resturants and tried poutine at all of them to see which one had the best and ive had it in the U.S and no place compares

@Olaf Sigurson Stop it lol
This was fantastic. Love the whole vibe of this episode with all the conversation happening and Babish just being weird as heck.
The way poutine is described to me always reminds me of 'kapsalon' which we have here in the Netherlands. It's crunchy french fries with strips of dönner kebab-like meat on top and some lettuce and veggies (usually white onion, red onion, red cabbage and things I forgot) on top of that goes garlic sauce and melted cheese. usually served in a aluminium container as fastfood, it's eaten as a delicious mess.
