As a drummer of 20+ years, I finally decided to jump into the world of guitar playing recently... and this review pushed me over the edge to buy my first amp, the 35RT. Great work and thanks a bunch for the thorough dissection of this amp and its litany of features!
Doing exactly the same. Coming from a drumming background myself as well. Looking to get this amp too
one of the very best reviews of all times..brilliant job guys
Thanks Pe Peroni Glad your enjoying the reviews! GI!
You're now one of my new favourite people! ;)
Cheers!
Just bought one. WOW. Love it. Probably my 5th or 6th amp (granted I've been both poor and cheap my whole life so never had the greatest gear) had everything from off brands to little fenders and a big peavey tube amp. You really get a LOT of tone to play with, and I love that it's not digital. Way to go orange, and at such a affordable price point! And a tuner too!! Yes!n
Wow Orange knocked it out the park on this one. It’s hard to believe this is NOT a tube amp.
100% agree! It actually sounds a *lot* like a tube amp!
Bought one for home use and my search for a practice amp is done! Can be played as quietly as you want, takes pedals really well (better through the dirty channel) and the actual amp gain is really nice on about half, although further than that is not for me. Clean channel is very valve like and the 10" speaker isn't boxey at all. Some valve amps are difficult to use at home because of the volume at low level...
Excellent demo! But please PLEASE stop suggesting that a 35w amp is something "you probably wouldn't gig with." Some of the best amps I've heard at bar gigs were 25-30w (including solid state amps) and many of them were *not* miked.
if i compare this with spider iv 75? who wins at gigging?
+Luke Valentino or is there a louder/better amp within 500$ budget?
It's not about "louder". It's simply about "loud enough" for the gig. You can drag that 200w 45 lbs monster to a local bar but you'll be driving customers out of the place if you put the volume above 3 -- or if it's tube, you're going to have a tough time dialing in that sweet tone/responsiveness at a lower volume. Since you're already bringing some kind of PA to the gig, find a guitar amp that gives you the tone you want and simply drop a mic in front of it (if you really need it). For years I've been gigging with a 25w solid state and I've never needed to put the volume above 5. Most venues were 100-150 person capacity, and for the larger venues I put a Sennheiser e609 in front of the cone. I get a lot of compliments from guitarists on the tone and a lot of shocked responses when they find out what kind of rig I have. You can very EASILY get great tone and do gigs with a low wattage amp.
Thanks for the tip
its sometimes useful to have a louder amp tho
especially if you cant afford to rent jam spaces and thus need something to keep up with a drummer
Yo! Great video dude.
Everyone else, stop watching the other videos on UA-cam. This is the one you're looking for. He talks about the amp and demonstrates it. I've watched a handful of videos in the past few hours and this is the best one.
Holy shit i just realized its levy clay, someone i was already subbed to! Wow
Just bought the RT20.. My first ever amp.. I mostly play acustic.. Love this amp .. Love the sound on both clean and dirty.. Very nice ..thank you for the video
Even when a year has passed... This video has convinced me today! I'm buying this little 35rt beast today!
This amp can definately be gigged with. I have the 35rt and it more than has enough volume to be heard. I had to turn it down because it was too loud!
Hi John: can you tell me about gigging with the 35w RT - You say it is possible? Did you mic it ? And how big were the venues. Thanks
Yes. I'd like to know too!
Hey John Sanand here. That’s my question, for band rehearsal no PA?
@@Matt-op9fh I used it band rehearsal with no PA. And it was fine. Very loud and full sound. If you have one it will work just fine.
Awesome review! I know this is a couple of years old, but you provided the information and tone demonstrations I needed to make an informed purchase. I was looking for a dependable, solid state amp that wasn’t a modeling format. When you dialed up the AC/DC tone, I knew this amp would fill my need for classic rock and blues. Not many uncomplicated solid state amps left out there! Good work Sir!
One really great review.
Exactly what an amp buyer wants to know.
No too many pro reviews like this on the tube.
Thanks for demoing the amp with low gain. A few of the reviews I've already seen just go clean or singing high gain metal, with no tonal ground in between. The achiles heel of most solid state amps is lack of or difficult achieving GOOD SOUNDING low gain overdrive, and this one seems acceptable and decent in that regard. Thanks. Best demo I've seen on this amp so far.
+Brad Dietz my pleasure! :)
Best review of the 35RT I've seen. It would work very well with my Digitech looper. I want one!
Reinemachefrau which model do you have? I had the solo xt series but couldn't gel with it so bought a Ditto and found that easier to use sayloike
watched this review monday... went to Long and McQuaid yesterday(friday) and got one.
Amazing review. really played and demo the amp for me. I didn't feel like I had any lingering questions when I went in to get it... amazing practice amp for writting or just playing around alone. 😊
10/10 review.
Cheers from Canada!
liked and subbed 👍
Levi Clay, thank you very much for this demo.
It’s the most informative on UA-cam and the most professionally presented demonstration of this amp. I’m not aiming this at the have a go UA-camrs but at the so called shop professionals, they could lean a lot on how to do an informative unbiased rounded demo of any musical product just by watching this master class on how it should be done. Well done young man.
This is the best review ever found on this series! !!!!
I have the 35rt.
Its a fantastic amp.
I've played around 50 pub gigs with it.
No problem with the volume.
Its superb..!!
SUBBED this is the best review ever ,I just got a new 35rt amplifier and I didn't know how to set to what I wanted but this helped me so much thank you
Completely new to sorting all this out. This has been the most helpful the way you went through it. My problem is not knowing anything, I get lost in all the options. This helped sort all this out for me. Most helpful. All this won you a subscriber. 😉.
Thank you again from Alaska!
I picked up a 35 the other day, so far love it, also impressed with how well made it is, good quality.
I bought this amp on the recommendation of a good friend and am now confident he did not steer me wrong...only problem is, he lives 100 miles from me so getting together to learn how to use is not an option right now.
Thanks for the great review and tutorial! I am a total noob to electrics and so happy to have stumbled on this vid. I now have a basic understanding of the controls (what does what, if you will) and will be playing it tonight.
What a great review and showcase on how awesome this amp is. I have a Blackstar series one and jet city jca50h yet this is the amp I play on a daily basis. It's loud as hell too if you want it to be. Well worth the money. Pedal was inexpensive too!
Great review. I'm as impressed with the review as I am with the amp!
Wonderful comment mate! Thanks! :)
Should probably have boosted the mids and turn down the bass when going into high gain territory.
With that being said, 16:28 sounded pretty damn amazing
Fancy FA agree
Mine arrived today. I'm so in love with this amp
You could totally gig this. Especially if you always have a sound tech & PA system, as I do w/ my band. Just mic it and send it through the board. Venues these days frown on loud stage volume anyway & never let me turn my 100 watt amps up past 2, which renders using a high wattage up useless for most of the paying gigs I do these days. I just did a show where I didn't even use an amp; just a digitech RP500 direct to the sound engineer.
best video explaining how my Orange amp works and what it can do 're differing styles . thanks
Fantastic playing and a wonderful demo. Great job all around.
A great demo and a great sounding amp!! The title was a bit misleading though, it suggested you would shootout the 35rt and the 20rt. Came here already sold on the Orange Crush series but worried that 35 watts would be too much for my apartment and wondering if I'd like the 20rt as much. The different wattages in a series never sound just alike, especially at different speaker sizes...Still, your playing is great so I dont regret my time to listen, more convinced than ever that I need an Orange. 😁
I ordered one as well as a boss gt-1 module. can't wait to hear how it all sounds combined in person... i swear im like waiting patient like a 5 year old on it's way to disneyland.
Cracking review! I bought this amp and this has really helped me with tone, thanks.
Genius! Best review ever for any solid state amp....Thanks! I heard some great jazz tones that I've been looking for so, I'm getting one for practice.
I am sold on it!
Thank you for this wonderful video. I am going to watch it a few more times for sure!
Love it.
Merry Christmas.
I have been intrigued by Orange Amps for a long time, just waiting on a killer deal to pop up on a used one...
Great looking guitar, not many companies come up with cool original designs for the body and headstock...
This is the most useful review I found. Thanks a lot mate
Great review. Loved your walk through the clean and dirty channels, and I really liked that you also ran DI to hear the CabSim.
Fantastic review! Convinced me to go and try one, and now I have one on order. Can't wait for it to arrive. BTW, you are a very amazing guitar player!!! Thanks.
I sold my 60W Fender Supersonic and got this one. Couldn't be happier.
"The silly level" LMAO!!!
Best amp review I ever witnessed!
Sold Me On It!!!
Loved the loop bit 👍
An excellent review! Thank you.
Man this is some seriously good playing mate. Sounds like there isn’t a bad tone in this amp.
Came for the amp review. Stayed for the dude shredding 20 different ways.
For someone that says metal is a bit too much for him, you seem to know your shit more than a lot pf people..
Jason Carnage
I thought so too.
Love the versatility of your playing
Great review. Can't wait for mine got it ordered already 35rt.
saw it last night, bought it today. thank you!
I got one of hese yesterday for my birthday. I am literally amazed by how much headroom it has.
Very helpful demo. Enjoyed your playing as well. Now I'm ready to get started. Thanks.
Thanks for the outstanding review of the Crush.
Great demo! Did my decision to buy the 35RT after watch you vídeo! By the way, loved how the sound was, so I’d like to know which mic did you use to record this?! Thanks!
Cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷
good review, mate! Gives a lot of insight as to how this can perform.
Reverb silly level = 60's brill building pop. Ya hate it but gotta love it.
best amp review i've seen. nicely done.
Thanks for the Demo , Very Helpful
Best playing I've ever heard on a demo
Best demo I've seen on this amp so far. Thank you !
This is getting purchased
Nice playing and demo...appreciated.
best reviewer ever!
+LukeV best youtube commenter ever
Thanks
Too bad we didn't get the hear the difference in tone of the 8" speaker in the 20rt.
Great review. Well done. I have the 20RT and 35RT and really like them. I'd still like a little thicker, beefier clean tone but I don't use pedals. Could you recommend a pedal that would produce that kind of tone?
Try an eq pedal in front or through the fx loop, a boss one can even be used as a clean boost. I want to buy a 20 or the 35, which one of the two have a brighter tone on the dirty channel with the gain up? I have the impression from the demos that the 35 have a more muddy distortion and the 20 is more boxy but brighter
Fantastic review! I'm sold!
just starting playing again after a lotta years think ill start here 4 1st amp
Really great demo. Thank you!
just got the 20RT ... still searching for the best electric blues sound, any help is appreciated. Also, the thing that confusing is what are the optimal settings on the guitars the 2 tone and volume knobs (strat) ... thanks
Thank You Great Demo , I Was Looking to Buy One, Now I'm Sure , you Totally Sold it to Me !
best review of any amp I've found
This is 9 years old video. They don't make new version often now do they?
Wish they'd do super crush 20 and 50 etc.!
I have 12 Crush Orange,..... color is good, and sound.
Very nice demo! Thanks for it! Subscribed for more!
fantastic review, so helpful! thank you :)
good vibes on this setup
Hi would you still recommend this (for practice + small gigs) nine years later. If not, what has replaced it. Thanks in advance.
Anybody know what song he's playing here 13:28
I have a 40 year old 20 watt harmony that sounds awesome. It has all the stuff your 35 has even the 10 inch speaker. I have found it hard to find a 20 watt practice amp now days with a professional 10 inch speakers in them. Why? They seem to have gotten cheaper and cheaper in how they make these practice amps. (Get your hands on one while you can?) lol there is no shortage of supply for these thing's.
Great demonstration
I would not crank the bass for the metal tone; but overall, the amps sounds pretty nice.
Great playing
excellent review thank you
Solid State Shrills !
I want this AMP!
I personally love the silly levels of reverb.
Great demo! I'm torn between the 35rt and the 20rt. I really want the effects loop (big advantage for using a looper as well as effects). But I'm worried the 35rt will be too loud/pointless for home playing which is what I'd be using it for. Can anyone advise? It's a shame the basic 20 doesn't have an effects loop - that would make it better than the 20rt.
I've got the 35 and it's no prob playing at home.
Wonderful guitar player
Great demo thanks
amazing review, would this be suitable for playing a gig if it was mic'ed?
what don't if you like the sound? :)
anything will be gigable with a PA if the sound is decent
nice review; superlative playing!
Fantastic review, with excellent exposition of styles to really demonstrate the dynamic range of the amp!
Orange amps are generally excellent. My Crush 20LDX sounds great with simple reverb and gentle gain -- multi-effects are kinda meh -- but definitely good enough to mic for recording if set up properly. Tuner doesn't always work though . . . . .
Cool demo
Should I buy 20RT or 35RT, i will use it mostly for home practice, but maybe for a acoustic performance in a small café. I don't wanna spend money in the future for another amp. I'll just buy some pedals in the future. What should I buy?
I'd buy the 35rt, it's a great amp, and a steal for $260 bucks!
I love this review.. thanks
Guys, can you help me choose either the 35RT, Micro/Micro Dark Terror, Vox VT40x, Vox AV15 or Laney Cub 10? Thanks
Live music bar near me is so loud they had a police noise order after complaints to keep doors to street closed. Bar it's small enough for a 20W amp! Bout 30 x 20 ft And it still gets 100 people. Two bars I know play music so loud it ruins the music and Hurts my ears! So many musicians play way to loud! 20 Wats in a small bar is fine I think. If I have to shout to have a conversation then the music is too loud..... musicians take note when the bar seems hard empty! 🤣
Good point!
Is there a way to try and compensate for the lack of touch responsive distortion on these type of solid state amps? I'm thinking of downsizing from my fender mustang 150 watt modelling amp but want to try and be aware of the drawbacks...
Buy a tube amp.
this guy's awesome
+Curtis-Lee McDonnell you're awesome
