You changed Blackstar and Orange timings in description by mistake. For example, at 4:10 you start talking about Orange and at 7:32 about Boss and not the other way.

The Boss has nice cleans, the ID Core v3 sounds nicer than all of these but is kind of a one trick wonder where the Crunch & Supercrunch are perfect but the rest is kinda okay. Katana is versatile, but something never quite hits my ears right, not at all like Line 6 or Eleven Rack, but similar thing unable to hide the digital sound. I actually might like the Boss because I have some overdrives and like playing with EQs & FX. Depends on what you think you can do with what you’re hearing. One thing I noticed after years & years of trying stuff is that your overdrive & boost pedals shape more of the sound you’re looking for than the actual tube or digital amps you play through, and mic pres or mixers with good transformers will turn anything into a nice big sound (live or direct).

Your demo of the Orange amp is rather unsuccessful because your settings are incorrect, whereas the Orange saturation is very effective in real life.

I thought that too, he kind of bungled the clean tone and didn't show the dirty side!! Oh well, the Orange Crush are great warm little amps

Katana is best by a country mile! I do have a Blackstar id core 40 which is a great amp but Katana is King for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels!☺

It depends on what you're looking for. I, for one, don't like too much of that 'digital' stuff going on. Out of these, I'd go for the Orange Crush.

I don't agree. It's not that simple. Many beginners and experienced guitarists alike are price point driven. So it frequently comes down to comparison at any particular price point segment. Then there are the factors of individual subjectivity of ears, and the tone one is seeking, again too emotively subjective within every individual's head to define best on other than an individual basis.
I also don't see the majority of buyers in the beginner category per se buying amps in the (i) 100W solid state category for their initial and only amp, (ii) for use at home -usually in what usually amounts to a bed or lounge room. They are far more likely to come away from that initial purchase with a smaller lighter amp requiring less outlay at a time at a time before they are fully committed to their guitar journey, but adequate and just as versatile for home use and their learning journey and gaining experience purpose. These days that'll likely be a 40W or 50W amp if researching and buying separately, and frequently less in a 20W through 30W option.

Fender dominates the categories of home/studio and gigging amps, so how couldn't they in practice amps?
Their entry level hybrids are as good or better than above.
Blackstar are designed in China to end up in Western landfills ,- quickly.

    • @theblytonian3906

@Mark Ferguson Much as I hate to break the news to you shattering your delusion, but Fender amps are made in China today and have been for an aeon. Your Backstar hate comment is inane. Reflects poorly upon you rather than the brand or their products.
Blackstar amps are designed by an experienced team who split from Marshall to do their own thing unfettered by the restrictions working there, and with the objective of being better than what they left -and they've succeeded. I have numerous Blackstar amps, solid state and valve, and a couple of Fender amps as well. All were Made in China. None of them have proven anything other than 100% reliable over time, and every Blackstar amp I own has demonstrated itself the equal of, and being innovative, usually better than any equivalent spec and alternative out there near their respective price points.
Outside the USA Fender's regional blocking and price gouging renders their amps, and guitars for that matter, overpriced and expensive for what they are, particularly their entry level lines which whilst OK are nothing to shout about. There are simply superior performing alternatives to Fender's practice amps at any price point. I wouldn't have any Fender amps except I was fortunate to source mine via Thomann before Fender CORPORATION region blocked Thomann exporting internationally. Pay a premium for what today amounts to nothing more than branding so some Fender Corp CEO's bonus affords him even bigger slice of real estate investment pie in Florida. Err..no. I'll leave that 'privilege' to the stupid.

@@theblytonian3906 are you a BS corporate shill?
None of the techs I know will work on what wer built to be disposable trash.Yes, Fender has been forced to make some similar concessions, which is why I own their older amps.Still, with a few notable exceptions among their lowest tier, Fender were /are not designed not to be repairable, and even newer models easily soldier on for decades.
I do like to experiment with inexpensive solid states and hybrids for fun, but BS are one brand I avoid, - my loss, no doubt..
