I will say karma I do enjoy your videos as a new engineer is help me out greatly. The only thing I will say you make it look so easy because you do all your jobs one-handed where I struggle with two lol. Roll on the next video
I just did this a few weeks ago on a newer Viessmann. I'm not gas safe, but I am a competent engineer and will be getting someone out to do a gas safety check. I used central heating cleaner and left it in the heat exchanger for a few hours, took multiple flushes with hot water and shaking the plate to get it clean. In theory this should never block if there is a magnet filter and inhibitor chemicals in the water right? It would've been nice if you added some inhibitor at the end.
Great video mate. I wouldn't be able to film and work with 1 hand so great work :) If the plate hex seals feel and look smooth and not perished, do you just leave originals in when reinstalling plate hex?
Helpful video! If you find that the air valve on the expansion tank leaks out some water when you go to charge it, is that a problem or a sign of a faulty tank?
a lot of the time its not a fault but condensate from compressed air. viessmann put the valve in a stupid place. like the rest of their boilers' badly designed and piece of shit.
good info , = = = however spirit of salts ( Hydrochloric acid** ) = = = = is too harsh for stainless or alloy ( **Thats why they get pin holed ) . Use a regular kettle descaler instead. and flush both direction with water
Hi thanks for video. Do you find this PHE blockage on central heating close loop side or cold to hot fresh water side also. Can this unblocking be done on fire main heatexhanger side. does main HE ever get blocked providing there is an inhibitor in the close loop?
So usually the blockage is on the CH side of the plate. I’ve never seen the HW side blocked up So yeah, if the system is really dirty then the main heat exchanger can also get blocked
always on the hot water side here in London. its thew calcium carbonate build-up that stops heat transfer, the harder the water area, the more common this is.
Morning great video , have a problem like yours , the thing with my vessmann is that the boiler is not firing on hot water, there is a full flow out of the hot tap , checked the 3 port vale and it is moving freely, could it be a stat or the heat exchanger thanks
If there is a pin hole and you say the pressure in the boiler will always be going up, would that be when the heating is on or even without the heating being turned on?
If it's a soak away drain, that's really not good for the environment, standard drain it's okay, personally I would just fit a new plate and have old plate recycled. Plus it a lot safer, did you hear him cough due to the flumes 😷
It’s a common fault with these boilers its the 2 black rubber pipes that run up the side they corrode and the rubber falls off and blocks up the plate heat exchanger
Worst thing was when you tried to claim on the warranty they would try blame it on old system pipe work saying it needed to be flushed I got wise to it when I’d installed a few new systems new everything and it would happen a few weeks later that’s why I never fit them any more especially when they don’t fix their faults and blame the installer that’s why I stick with Worcester most of the time there customer service is great and they fix there faults if one occurs
Do you have to be gas safe registered to undertake that task?
Gas safe to touch the boiler components my friend. Don’t play with gas if you ain’t gas safe.
Gas safe as soon as you open the combustion chamber!
@@dylanbrandley7888
OK, does that mean the water side of the boiler (& the electronics) can be serviced by non gas safe engineers ?
@@assistantto00730 years ago I became a corgi registered gas engineer, 70% of the people on the course were duffer's!
No gas safe needed as you own the boiler it's your property so do what you like to it

Haha! New vid coming soon 💪
Great vid for anyone wanting to gain confidence in boiler repairs.
Glad you think so Carl 💪
That is a top in depth video as usual❤
What chemical you have used sir? Thank you for sharing
Great video and yes top marks for one handed work 🏆
Haha thanks!👊
Some of the things you do whilst holding a camera, sick 👍

I watch all Ur videos they are good and top engineer. Can you do one doing right hand blocks and left blocks repairs
Your videos are very good, they are very helpful, especially for new qualified gas engineers like me.
Thank you so much !!!
Thank you for your time to share with us . Great job 👏
Thank you!!💪
Thank you for a very informative video. What brand of spirit of salts do you use please? Thank you. Very best wishes Clive

Where did you get the spirits of salts? Thanks.
Any plumbing shop should have it
Great video mate. I wouldn't be able to film and work with 1 hand so great work :) If the plate hex seals feel and look smooth and not perished, do you just leave originals in when reinstalling plate hex?
Haha! So I always try to change the seals when I can, but if I don’t have any in the van and they seem to be in good condition then I’ll leave them

Do you do repair work at all? I'm looking for a plumber for my HIU

Good video 👍
Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it 👊
Great tips
Glad you think so!
Any chance we can fit a filter somewhere to stop this blocking mine gets blocked every week even we powerwashed it
great content i use this method as well 👌👊
Great minds think alike 💪
Thanks for this. Subscribed 👍🏾
Did you have to use new o rings on the plate heat exchanger
Not sure if he showed whether he cleaned the seals up or replaced them, allways good idea to have replacement seals. & they can fall off !
Good job. Thank you. That was the soultion for me.
Nice job mate 👍
Thank you!💪

I didn’t see a filter and the discharge bottle wasn’t primed, apart from that great job.
I need to do this on my glow worm the part was only £40 so going to give it ago changing it
I have the problem, will need to buy a new plate, £160 + labour cost, do you work in London

not firing, is nothing like the problem in this video!!
the hall sensor
Would you always replace the 4 o-rings on the manifolds when taking out the plate?
no
Good video mate shame it was a only a 7 minute one
What spirit salts do you use ?
Usually use the knock out one
Smart guy
If there is a pin hole and you say the pressure in the boiler will always be going up, would that be when the heating is on or even without the heating being turned on?
at all times
That HCl is evil stuff! Need to be SO careful.
Will the plate only go in one way? Cheers
Yes mate
Thanks top video
what is the price of new plate?
What chemical do you use to clean it?
Spirit of salts
Nyc Job
Thank you!👊
What is spirit salts
a ballfix valve to fill the boiler no checkvalve. i do wonder why the plate was that clogged. not. why am i not surprised..
Does anyone what chemicals have been used?
Spirits of salts
@@advancedboilertraining thanks just had a look Selco sells this only a few pounds.
Where to get spirits of salts ?
City plumbing
Name of liquid to clean the exchanger?
Hidrochloric acid HCl
Where do you buy spirit of salts?
Any plumbing shop should have it in stock
Is it legal to flush that down the drain???

terrible design, i would never install or advise to fit a Viessmann. as bad as Baxi

Spirit of salts will rock the inside of that plate exchanger doesn’t matter how much water you flush through afterwards
👍🧿👏
After cleaning with HCl you must wash with a baking soda solution
If you’re doing the shower hoaky coaky replace it don’t bodge it
