Here is a review of the Perception Swift Kayak. #GetYourPaddlesWet On Facebook: / monkeynaround On Patreon: / monkeynaround On the Web: www.monkeynaroundadventures.com
the non-dry storage area in the back can easily be made into dry storage if you have one of those typical white buckets. They fit right in the hole perfectly. Just put the lid on the bucket and voila!
The tracking is not the best that is for sure. It is a 9.5 feet kayak. Being so short it really hurts the tracking. For a entry level or budget kayak you will be pleased.
The back hatch is fairly small so you can only fit up to about a 15 liter bag in it, but there is no bulkhead so you can slide your seat down and throw a bigger bag in from the front of the space. Last trip my wife back 2 ten liters and a 15 liter back there with quite of bit of room to spare.
My daughter has had this for few years. She has a issue with the back rest constantly popping out while paddling. When she leans back a lil while paddling, pop it's out and she has no back support. She gets completely frustrated Have you guys had this issue? I may try to see if that bungee cord will tighten some but don't know. shes a small 14 year girl so it's not like she's a 250lb man.
I could see that. I have had issues with it popping out of the track but not while paddling it. Look at the Perception Sound. It is basically the same boat but has a little different seat and that may fix her issue. That seat is attached by more than just a bungee. #GetYourPaddlesWet.
As one who has back issues and requires stable back support, I had that same thought. Currently have a Pelican Mustang 100X which is great, but always looking at what else might be out there for a second kayak. I think I'll skip the Swifty.
I have this kayak and used it for the first time this weekend. I'm not sure if I have the seat wrong, or the foot pegs too far away, but this thing tracks terribly. I was padding in zero wind and going in a circle to the left. So I'd start padding on the left side and I was STILL going left. I didn't expect this beginner kayak to be the best at tracking but this was almost laughable. Any chance I was doing something wrong, or do I need to sell this thing?
This one being 9 and a half feet tracks like a wet noodle. Unless it is for a kid I always say start with no less than 12 feet. I bought this one for my wife and she paddled it until she took out my Old Town. Then she said get me a 12!!!!
This one would work anywhere you want to take it. The one thing to keep in mind is being only 9 and a half feet it is not as fast or stable as a longer boat. If I was going in the waterway and needed to handle the wakes of a big boat I would take a longer and more stable option. Hope this helps. #GetYourPaddlesWet
There is a small one in each end. As for the bungees yep not the best design, but typically we just grab them from behind the seat. We do not use the access very much. Yea the wife liked that color.
@@MonkeyNAround I have had this for 6 months and I loved your video cause I didn't know all my features. I am worried about kayaking alone, should I get a float bag for the access space In it? I didn't know if it had any floatation in it at all or not.
Sheena M there are some foam insert to help it stay afloat should you flip over. Personally I have flipped it and never had to worry about it sinking. I have heard stories of kayaks like that sinking. Thanks for the comment and I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks Jose. If you are looking for them and Dicks Sporting Goods is out of stock look at the Perception Drift. It is the same boat and sold at local shops around the country.
The tracking is not the best but it is only 9.5 feet. It is a good starter kayak for rivers but it will not perform as well as a 12 feet kayak on flatwater.

Nice review Gary!

Great idea I never thought about that. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome information thanks!
How does it do in a big lake?
what is the blue kayak where you have your daughter in with you ? I want to do something similar and have my daughter with me while paddling !
That blue one was a Pelican Trailblazer. She has also been with me in an Old Town Dirigo when we did the sunset paddle in North Myrtle Beach.
So how does it do in the water? Some reviews say the tracking is not great and the bow plows water

What dry bag or bucket will fit in the back? Anybody know? I have one but want a container or bag that fits nice in the back

2 gallon bucket
those typical lookin white buckets fit perfectly. I bring a bucket every time.

Yup, and if you paddle on the right...
You'll go right. I'm sure you've figured it out by now.
;)
I don't think it has foot braces, correct?
Would this be good in the intracoastal waterways such as the Indian River in florida?

@@MonkeyNAround Yes, that does help. There are lots of big boats where we go, so I might need something more stable. Thank you!
@@normajohnson4811 If you want a stable sit inside look at the Bonafide EX123. I got a chance to paddle one and was surprised how stable it was.
@@MonkeyNAround That looks like a nice kayak!!! and not too heavy. TY
Any flotation in ends?-good it has some rear bungee but looks a bit awkward to use lid with the criss cross design-like the color!

Bungee in front of cockpit with clip is to lock your paddle in that cradle.
