We finally received our kayaks! We pretty much knew which kayaks we wanted to purchase once we made the decision to get them. We purchased the Perception Joyride 10.0 ft kayaks in colors Sunset (Orange & Yellow) and Déjà vu (Blue & Green). The reason we decide to purchase these kayaks was due to design, size and feel. We wanted all the storage options that the Joyride has (and most don’t), as well as, we wanted a 10 foot kayak for size. We had kayaked in these in the past and loved the feel of them… so we just knew these would be perfect for us.
We purchased Field and Stream Carbon Fiber Paddles.
As for hauling our kayaks we decided to purchase Yakima Kayak Roof Rack with JayLow Carrier since you can carry two kayaks with these. We loved the design of the Yakima JayLow carriers as they are collapsible and easy to use.
In this video I share all our favorite features about the Perceptions JoyRide Kayaks and how we installed our Yakima carrier rack.

The wife and I went through the same thing. So we decided to buy used ones. Did it in the winter because we figured it would be cheaper. We got the Perception Joyride 10 for her for $400, and the Perception Hook 10.5 for me for $300. Took a bit to find them but totally worth it.

Did you get life preservers? If you did, how did you choose them?
Does the water get inside? How do you take it out? Coz i now some kayaks have holes with plugs to drain water out.
No we've never had water get inside our kayak. No plug on these.
We're looking this year and found your YT searching for the JoyRide.. I'm finding too, that there isn't much in stock where I live and am wondering how expensive is is to ship those.
Yes, we ordered them in in spring or 2020 from Backcountry.com and it was about $200 extra to ship. But it was worth it, since we were able to pick out exactly what we wanted for colors.

Jeanie my wife & I had the same problems. We wanted Kayaks for our Anniversary but there were none to be found in Minnesota stores. I was looking for the Perception Joyride 10 like you and was able to find them sold on Amazon by Perception. We are so excited that they will be arriving July 15th!!! Thanks for sharing this video. Cant wait to use ours!

I live in ohio and I have a joyride on the way I got the same one as your husband and I absolutely cannot wait to get on for my first paddle. I ordered the spray skirt too not sure if it’s needed but why not right ?

I dont recommend using a spray skirt as a new yakayer and - basically - do not need for basic kayaking. It's to keep dry in cold weather, but can also trap you if not able to remove quicky in case of flipping
@@kristinharris6101 yeah I’ve kinda found that I don’t really need the skirt unless it’s a really rainy day or if there are huge waves that come over the bow
Just curious if you still like your perception joy ride kayak after a year? I'm planning on buying this as this is the only good one available around this time. I also plan on using mainly in Minnesota lakes just like you, so I thought I will check with you. Thanks for the video.

@@garethdonovan2739 I'm not familiar with Aspire Kayaks so I cannot advise. HOwever, we have owned our JoyRides for over a year now, and we couldn't be happier. We love them!
@@garethdonovan2739 I have been watching a lot of kayak videos lately. Wilderness Pungo 105 (similar to Aspire 105) is very popular lately due to its stability and performance. However, Perception Joyride is also very good. I placed an order for Joyride and it will arrive in a week.
I am looking everywhere online to find a Joyride for sale and can't find a single one, any ideas where to look?
Yes! We bought ours at Backcountry.com they were the only website we could find them available! Hopefully, they still have some left :)
In case you haven't found one yet, Amazon has a few of these back in stock. Just ordered the wife one.
Thank you for the review from another Minnesotan gal (Eden Prairie!). My husband and I should’ve really ordered kayaks last year for our 40th birthdays but it sounds like these may have been out of stock. Its a bit crazy as I think the price of this kayak has increased by over $100 now-maybe due to supply chain issues? At any rate I am going to order it before the price increases any more! Another benefit of carbon fiber paddles is that they aren't lightning rods.
What is the weight of the Joyride 10?
It says on their website its about 50 pounds!
@@JeanieMarie some say 42. I keep seeing discrepancies. How much do you think it weighs?
Does your husband fit nicely in there? I saw one video where the reviewer felt like he sat up a bit higher than ideal and his knees would hit the console.
My husband is the same height as me: 5ft 7in and he weights about 170lbs and we fit perfect in these. I actually have longer legs than him and I don't hit the console.
If your husband is much taller I'm sure that would be an issue.
