Nice reviews! I’m looking at adding one of these to our family fleet. It’ll be dual use for us. It looks like it would work great for fishing, and when we have a family outing it could haul a cooler with drinks and snacks. If you’re ever kayaking with kids, you can’t haul enough snacks lol. 2 things I’d recommend for your comfort. The first is a Stohlquist life jacket. They make 2 versions that have a mesh lower half on the back side. The floatation that normally would be in the bottom is instead doubled up up top. It makes you look hump backed when you’re out of the boat, but when you’re in the boat it fits over top of the seat back for a very comfortable fit. The second is to get one of the strong fiber coated sponges and wedge it between the bottom of the seat and the hull. Any water getting in the boat will collect there and get absorbed. Then you just squeeze it out every so often.
I ended up getting yesterday afternoon. I got the 9 1/2 ft version. It’s technically used but the lady said it had only been in the water 3x. It looks brand new, and she stored it inside. Hopefully I’ll get to try it out on the water shortly
This just hit my thread of videos. I have a Perception Angler (earlier name for the 10.5) & love it! The two compartments up on the dash are for Scotty mounts. Haven't bought Ram Mounts to screw in, but nice that those are up front too. I recently picked up a Sound (9.5) for my daughter & plan on modding it some too so we can go fishing together.
Best review I have seen. Mine is coming on Friday. Question - Most folks complain about the depth of the rod holders but you seem to be okay with them? I use 7ft Casting rods so I am wondering if the built in rod holders are deep enough to hold them securely?
I haven’t had any issues with them personally. The way I cast it’s easier for me to lay them down sticking out the front of the kayak. Check out some of my kayak videos to see how I do it. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for commenting and watching we appreciate it.
I am very happy with mine, I went with the 9.5 as it fit perfectly in my short bed truck and I can still hook up to my travel trailer, no need for a ladder rack
Thank you for the video! Just bought a 10.5 in blue from the local Dunhams sporting goods who had it on sale. Did fish in it a couple of times and haven’t fully gotten used to it, set up etc yet with the seat and gear. Great boat though!
We have fished a bunch out of ours keep at it and you will enjoy it for a long time. We have a lot of videos especially river floats of us in these kayaks that may help you to check out. Thanks for stopping by and watching
Nice review on your yaks, those are nice boats for sure, as a bigger, old guy with bad knees I just have too much trouble getting in and out of a sit in style kayak so I went for a sit on top. Great seeing that you guys are able to get out so often. Good stuff Josh and Hunter.
I can see where a sit on top have there advantages also. We really enjoy these but we would like to eventually upgrade. But for now these are amazing. Thanks for watching we appreciate it!!
Josh and Hunter, those are nice kayaks!! My son has a Perception 11.5 (I think), I call it a 12 footer, I have a Old Town Vapor 10 Angler. Just got into kayaking this year and only on lakes. Being here in WV we have some nice gentle rivers, but living in Fayetteville, WV, I am only 2 miles from New River and I won't even think about putting a kayak in that river. LOL If you look on my channel you will see a hard lesson I learned on my very first fishing trip with my kayak. I am still going back looking for it as the lake is drained down to its winter pool. I hope I find that rod and reel, it was a father's day present from my wife. I notice you don't have any tethers on your poles when in the rod holders. I added a couple pad eyes and took paracord and carbiners to make some tethers. Of course I wish I had made them longer and maybe my lesson wouldn't of happened. Great video and great review of the Perception kayaks. Juddie - J & J TOA
It was good to see the review, quite a few years ago we used firbreglass kayaks which were probably a lot heavier and that fibreglass could be rough on your skin. Not sure I will be getting one any time soon but I sure do need to get some fishing done. 👍
We’re looking to purchase the sound 10 ft. We want to use it to fish so would like a more steady track. We’ve sat in the 9.5 and really liked it Would you be able to tell me if the cockpit opening is the same size or is it slightly smaller?
It is the same size on both models we have thanks for watching if you have anymore questions be glad to help great kayaks and we have really enjoyed them
I'm leaving soon to trade my perception manatee 9.5 for a sound 9.5. I love my boat, I just need a different storage situation on it. I hope the sound handles just as well as the manatee or better lol.
Good review. I have been looking at these kayaks. I have been going back and forth on a sit on top or a sit inside model. Is there anything in particular that made you pick the sit inside model?
They are nice and they get used a bunch that is for sure. I can honestly say one of the best fishing investments I have ever made. Thanks for watching I’m glad you enjoyed the video!!
No we turn them loose we are pretty much catch and release check out some of our fishing videos we have on the channel thanks for stopping by and watching
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 I just got mine (had to special order) and noticed there were two holes in the back and didn't come with plugs? It was just odd to me.
@@pinky51318able no you are good on the holes ours has it to and they are drain holes if water does come in that compartment hope you enjoy your kayak.
Thanks for a quick reply.. how about the seat? is it comfortable? I was checking reviews and someone claims that the seat is not comfortable. Thanks in advance.
@@nasserkuzbari2205 it is not super padded but we fish sometimes 8 hour river floats and we never have a problem. I wish it was a little more padded but it has a good back support for us so it really doesn’t bother us we fish sometimes like I said for hours and never complain of our back hurting
Yes it takes some practice to get in and out and I agree some ramps are slippery so you do have to be careful. Thanks for commenting and watching we appreciate it.
Check out some of my river videos I have some videos of us going through exactly what your are looking for we like ours caught a lot of fish out of them and had a lot of fun. They handle great.
We have the 9.5 and the tracking is not nearly as good as our 12 foot kayak. It’s not that big of a deal though as we don’t travel great distances. The advantages of a 9.5 outweighs the slower speed. (We don’t have to register a boat under 10 feet, it’s lighter, and it fits in the back of our minivan.

Can you provide guidance comparing the Perception Sound 9.5 vs. the Perception Swifty Deluxe 9.5?
I have never heard of the swiftly so I can’t really tell you anything on it unfortunately. But the perception is really nice for the money.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 Many thanks for your feedback.
Great vid. Does the rear cargo area drain into the hull or self bail out of the boat?
It has holes drilled in it that self drains no plug for the rear compartment just the main drain plug. Thanks for watching
Are the cockpit sizes the same in the 9.5 and the 10.5? Tx g.
Yes they are

Good review. I have been looking at these kayaks. I have been going back and forth on a sit on top or a sit inside model. Is there anything in particular that made you pick the sit inside model?
Inside model is nice for cooler mornings and seasons. Keeps you much dryer.
Not really the sit on most of the time has a nicer seat but these are nice to

Stupid question, but do you just keep the fish you catch on a string attached to the kayak?

How tall are you, and do you think someone 6'3 would be too big for the 10.5?
There is plenty of room inside. I’m 6’0

Not bad at all we floated over the weekend for 11 1/2 hours and didn’t bother us. They are great kayaks check them out I think you will be surprised
Is the 10.5 good for duck hunting in a slow moving river?
