- Justin Marriot - The ORIGINS of the PAPERBACK Fanatic - In Conversation!
In today's video we finish off the trilogy of videos that I filmed recently with Justin Marriot. Here, Justin discusses how he first got into collecting, the early books that influenced his early exploits into creating fanzines, his plans for the future and collecting goals. It's a fascinating chat which I do hope you enjoy.

Justin says his fanzine work will roughly add up to 4,500 pagrs of work. I probably own about 3,000 pages of them. Excellent stuff he produces
Absolutely! S legend on the paperback community.
Good work by all concerned. Justin's releases are great reminders of how much we ve lost in our contemporary book market. As a teenager i collected almost every New English Library that i could and a particular favourite was their edition of R Chetwynd Hayes' The Monster Club, as well as the early Guy N Smith books and the Edge series, which, sadly, my mother eventually confiscated.
I know the exact edition of The Monster Club you're referring too. A great book. Just completed my Edge collection, those are great reads🙂 NEL has become a very collectable published.
A great triple play with two of my favorite vintage paperback mavens!!!
Thanks Bob. You know I'd be doing this with you if only you were closer🙂

@SubtropicBob 🙂
I have got a lot of early paperback fanatic s always very enjoyable
It's a great magazine, the latest issue is exceptional 👍
Jules, Justin, great to see you together talking books and collecting. Justin, i think you are about 15 years or so younger than me so have a slightly different perspective on collectable paperbacks than i do, which is good. Variety is good and there is one thing i realize that there is always something fascinating to discover in paperbacks! Cheers you English blokes!
Thanks Gary, variety is indeed the spice of life. I'd love to sit down with you one day Gary and do a proper interview.
Self-publishing forever! I'm certain I'm speaking for everyone on the masthead of any Justin Marriott publication - you have my sword, sir! It has been my sincere pleasure to contribute whatever I can to Justin's publications.
Thanks Bob, I know Justin thinks very highly of you, as do I sir🙂
Wonderful conversation, and a good reminder that I still need to pick up the last issue or two of PF. Marriott is doing God’s work in gathering and archiving the pb history and knowledge from his contributor stable of pb enthusiasts.
You're right, he deserves a medal for his years of dedication to our shared hobby 👍
Magnificent interview and guest, thanks for making this!
My pleasure sir. Justin is such a great source of knowledge with an incredible output of work
It's such a shame that Dorothy Lumley, Brian Lumley's ex-wife died. Before she started the Dorian Literary Agency she was an editor at NEL. I remember her telling me that she had the 'fun' task of toning down the racism in the Skinhead paperbacks. I suspect Dot could have been a mine of information for Justin.
Absolutely, I hadn't heard, was that before Brian died?
@@JulesBurt Yes, Dot died in 2013. ☹️
@davebrzeski I didn't know that.
❤
I'd love to do all these sit down interviews with you Bob, maybe I could persuade the wife to go on holiday .....🙂
