  • This video will aid in anyone trying to get a handle on the real world dimensions and limitations of a 5 foot wide by 10 foot long enclosed trailer. The interior is 5 feet wide and 10 feet long, with an additional 1.5-2 feet of storage in the v-nose.
    The drop down ramp is probably closer to 4 or 4.5 feet wide, and the space on the ramp available to drive up with a mower is even less as the lift assist takes up another few inches on either side. I didn't measure it, but I wouldn't think you could fit more than a 42" deck mower driving straight up the ramp.
    The main drawback is the interior height of only 5'. Being 5' 9", I am able to navigate the inside with little effort and no real discomfort, however taller folks will probably have issues.
    I live in Florida and purchased this trailer from a manufacturer in Georgia. The cost was as follows:
    5X8 base trailer - $1350.00
    2 extra feet to make it a 5x10 - $100.00
    24" Side door addition - $100.00
    Full size spare - $85.00
    TOTAL - $1635.00 plus tax and registration fees which will vary depending on state and locality.

    UPDATE: 5:44 For , The distance in between the bolts on the floor of the ramp (where the spring assist wires connect) is 47.5". If I take an angle grinder to the bolts and trim the excess off past the nut I can get an extra .5" for a MAX clearance of 48". Unfortunately, this still rules out most 48" decks as they are a few inches wider than 48".

      Good info, I was looking to get one of these to park in my garage, but need to get a 48" Bob-Cat in it. Will have to look at a 6' wide and hopefully with the same height as yours.

    Greatly appreciated the in-depth demo on load / unload logistics and clearance specs, Brad! I'm in the market for my first enclosed trailer, and have a storage scenario similar to yours. Live on an acre lot in an HOA, and would prefer for aesthetic, logistical, and security reasons to keep my trailer in my twin door two-car garage, which measures 26.5' deep. Each door measures 8.5' wide by 8' tall.
    I stand 5'9" as well, and am currently running a 52" stander that measures 55" wide. I plan to work solo for the foreseeable future. I would prefer a 5' or 6' wide trailer over the more common 7'-8.5' widths due to my garage door width as well as towing and purchase price considerations.
    However, I'm having difficulty locating a 5' or 6' wide enclosed trailer with a 6' rear door ramp height. Most I've found in this range offer a 5'7" door height with a 6' ceiling height, which will require my ducking to get in and out, particularly when on the stander. With this in mind, had a few questions for you now that you've had your current 5x10' enclosed trailer for over three years:
    1) Now that you run the 36" Bobcat QuickCat stander rather than your original residential-grade ZRT, have you found that the limited headroom and door height are more of an issue?
    2) With a single-axle trailer like yours, have you found it necessary to load your 36" Bobcat QuickCat backwards in the trailer in order to maintain the proper tongue weight, or have you been able to drive it straight in while maintaining good trailer handling?
    3) Has the limited headroom significantly limited or affected your load / unload efficiency and/or tool access when working your daily route?
    4) If you had to do it all over again, would you make the same decision or would you opt for a trailer with more headroom and settle for parking it in the drive instead of the garage?
    Thanks for the video!

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  4 роки тому +1

      Great questions!
      1 - Only when I forget to duck. Stooping down into the trailer to load/unload (or technically back up, drive forward) the mower is now second nature.
      2 - I load it over the axles and more often than not when I stop it has shimmied itself over to a sidewall and rests there. That being said I am never on the highway with it, so around city tongue weight isn't quite as important if I am only going 35mph.
      3 - No, because I paid extra for the side door, which lets me get all the handheld equipment and gas cans.
      4 - If I could do it over again I would get the same height so it could fit in the garage but see what the cost was for a custom size, so wider but still as short. That being said I have taken to just parking it in the driveway hooked up to the truck the past few months as I have been working much more, and am looking at a new gate to allow me to park it in the backyard.

    Hey Brad I have a question. I am looking at a getting either a Wright 36 or 48 inch mower. I probably will only be able to get a 5x10 trailer since I need it to fit in my garage. Do you think a 48 will fit with the discharge flap up?

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  5 років тому

      Hey Russell! It depends 100% on the trailer you are looking at. I don't know if there are industry standards but I don't want to assume the people who built my trailer used the same schematics as the ones who will be building yours. That being said:
      FIRST, before I answer your question, if you are getting a 5x10 to fit it in the garage because of the height, knowing what I know now I would actually ask the trailer manufacturer if they could do a custom sized 6x10 or 7x10 and still keep the overall height at 7'. If I ever get a new trailer that is what I will do, because the 5x10 is perfect height for parking in garage, but I could actually benefit from it being wider, so if they can make it wider and still as short, that would be perfect.
      NOW, to actually answer your question based on my trailer: Mine is 5x10, but the rear entrance is 50 inches wide and the ramp only allows 48 inches of clearance between where the lift assist bolts into the floor of the ramp. So as long as the wheelbase is 48" or less you should be able to clear the ramp and if the deck (which should float over the lift assist bolts) is 50" or less you should be able to clear the rear entrance. Keep in mind you would have extremely little tolerance when loading/unloading, so it would be a slow process.

      mike Norton Thanks Mike! Mine is a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan S/E, with V6 and pulls it great! My trailer is 800lbs, mower is 725, and probably another 150 in fuel, blowers, ladder, trimmers/edgers, so I am usually under half of the 3500lb tow max.
      Had to also buy the receiver that slides into the tube, a ball to go on the receiver, and locks as well. Maybe another $60 aside from the hitch itself that bolts to the car and wiring kit.

      If you go with a national company it will probably cost more. I would google 'trailer manufacturer' or 'trailer dealer near me' on google. Then compare prices from the results and see who offers delivery. And the SIZE of the trailer isn't as important as the WEIGHT. Your specific vehicle will have a specific limit to what it can tow that unfortunately I do not know. Consult your owner's manual. If you don't have that, call the company that made it. They should be able to look it up with your VIN. Hope that helped!

    How did you drill into the sides?

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  5 років тому +1

      So working from the inside to the outside, there is a sheet of plywood that is screwed into the structure, which is metal tubing spaced every foot or so. Outside that is the exterior skin of the trailer which is just sheet metal. So if you drill into the plywood you have 3/4 inch (or however thick your plywood is) to screw hooks or drive screws into. The best way to do it is drill through the wood AND metal tubing with self tapping metal screws, that gives the best hold.

    Advertising a landscape trailer is great for business. But it's also advertising for thieves. Crooks don't break into trailers anymore they just steal the whole entire trailer. One minute all is good and your trailer is parked at home, inside garage or inside the storage place. 1 minute 30 seconds later it's outside on the road hitched up to a truck being stolen. It's just a matter of time before stuff is stolen.

      Sad, but true. Hopefully the precautions we take to prevent it are enough.

      @@CopperCreekCuts I have a box truck stuffed with landscape equipment and gear. But it's a decoy truck. I purchased 2 giant magnets for sides of the doors that says "Used Tires" with the ugliest stack of banged up tires. No advertising nothing zero. I don't want the attention while on the road. The marketing is not worth the possible theft. Your a sitting duck with a enclosed landscape trailer saying "LANDSCAPE COMPANY."

      @@MichshnlyI would like to see a picture of your magnets with the ugly stack of used tires : ) Very good point you made. Huge. And these expensive motorcycle trailers people buy? All thieves need to do is just hook up. Boom. Better buy one of these GPS tracker things for $255 and keep it in there, in a concealed location. On that note, will the tracker be able to send a signal if it is stuck up inside the lower frame portion of the trailer or truck? In an aircraft we have to place them where the sun can shine so to speak.

      I have tried calling them for two days now and I can’t get them to answer the phone or call me back... and no response from my email either. Did you have a hard time getting in touch with them?

      I worked with Gloria who was a sweet and helpful lady. I don't remember having a hard time getting a hold of her. I used 912-850-0918 to get a hold of her and her email is grandgirl2014@gmail.com.
