@@allnn2552 Maybe a lot of them is. My beloved are Bridal mask, IRIS, My girlfriend is a Gumiho, Secret garden, Rooftop prince and also 3rd hospital and Equator man :) The "misogynistic" tone of Korean dramas is (for now) just cultural and regional trait. The ongoing theme is the rivalry between two brothers, who would guess what that allegory might be. I used to watch European dramas in the 90s on TV, but they were not in original language, so I didn't enjoy them quite enough. Are there some you would recommend from the recent time. Thank you :)

Yep - saving Chuck and Community earned Subway a permanent place in my heart, along with their going along with that superficially anti-corporate plot on Community. Also the fact that, for many years in many places around the world, they were the only restaurant with a vegetarian option that was more than just fries (which themselves weren't even vegetarian at some chains). A loved one even talked about opening a franchise someday. Fortunately, she chose a safer life option - moving to Ukraine.

I worked at a subway for a year. The owner of the shop was an amazing person. Gave small deals here and there that the company wouldn’t necessarily offer (think extra stuff on certain sandwiches he thought were bad deals). He also made sure every single employee had a job before we closed(I’ll get to that). I remember when the inspector would come down she’d proudly claim that we were the best subway in socal and she loved checking in on us.
During the $5 footling I asked the owner “how do you afford to sell sandwiches at that price?” To which he responded “I’m wondering the same thing.” Poor dude had to close the whole shop a few months later and could barely afford to do so. I still have the order here sign as a memory of my first job

However, it's all intertwined. To many world wide this is a livelihood. To just say I'm not going to eat there anymore is not really the answer. there are people stuck in the middle who are hurting and
I imagine it isn't limited to Subway. It's a big problem that DOES stem from the Capitalistic idea of owning your own business, being your own boss, and that kind of mythological independence we're taught is so easy to attain.

One of the Subway locations in Leeuwarden closed a few years ago, a new restaurant set up shop there. The zoning laws of the Netherlands didn't allow for a Subway restaurant to be so close together, so one was forced into being closed down. I worked at a Subway for years. There was something called the rule of threes which was how many of each item you put on a sub. I remember putting extra product on my subs. Still ended up becoming a Night Manager at one of the franchises...and I remember how absolutely broken-hearted my boss was about the contract she was trapped in. When I finally quit she left within a few weeks and sold her franchise to the guy down the street who owned most of the other Subways in town.

And Subway sued a public university for the lab work they did for CBC. It was actually that their "chicken" is a mix of soy and chicken and not strictly chicken. Now here's the thing: most cheap commercially prepared "beef" burgers have like 50% soy because they keep their shape and don't shrink down when they are cooked. It also makes them cheaper so the profit margins are better. So, I believe CBC and Trent U actually did solid lab work because adding soy to meat is such a common practice in the food industry and Subway's chicken always looked formed like it had been pressed in a mold. It's only a problem if you want to actually know what's in your food.

Okay, okay. I get the whole, "not going to Subway isn't the answer because small business owners, whatever" but as a a former subway employee, FUCK that. Nobody is treated or paid worse than the sandwich artists, and I've never worked anywhere with worse health and safety oversight. The little sanitizer buckets the knives went into would sometimes sit out all day with warm mayo on them. I was making $8.50 as the highest paid non supervisor on staff, and my boss, who worked her ass off and lived in poverty, made $11.00 an hour. He's right that the Subway model makes less money than other fast food, and that impacts the ways employees are compensated and treated.
Furthermore, the low cost of opening a store attracts people who have never worked in the restaurant business and have no friggin clue what they're doing. My owner didn't clean the grease trap for 5 years and when he finally got a fine, he had his family member clean it out with a ladle while the store was open!!! Had a family friend who was a Subway franchisee. They decided to try to have their "own" business instead of buying a house. It was when the 5 dollar footlong was big and Subway was relatively popular. Long story short, it was smooth sailing for a couple years and then they opened up 3 more locations within a few miles, sales dropped, $5 footlong went away, and corporate forced them to shut their doors. They lost everything, declared bankruptcy. That was over 5 years ago, they have yet to recover. Fuck Subway.

The small player, if they can even get a loan, is put up with their own collateral and in the event of corporate bankruptcy it can wipe them out personally.

It was in the smaller part of a two part commercial property, in a great location, but I don't know why have not been able to rent it all now. The bigger one has been empty for over a decade ago. It used to be a drugstore. I don't remember which one. it's a mystery property right smack in the middle of the town, also on the main strip road and highway. Meanwhile just about everything else commercial property is gone, sold, rented, and being built on. I think that the problem must be the lack of parking space. They're going to have to tear it down, and build something else much smaller, that leaves more parking lot.
