True maturity is realizing that Ronnie and big Ramy and all of those guys didn't get big lifting the biggest weights , they lifted the weights and as they got bigger and stronger their weight increased because they needed more resistance , they also do gear , and i'm a 27 year old natural who just want look good in my clothe , i shouldn't tear my pec to get in a good shape 😂😂😂

Good luck getting big natural lifting with no big weights, this works only for roided out users - been natural , on roids for years now, no way i'd train as this guy says if I was still natural

I will respectfully disagree, I am natural, since switching to higher volume and not putting all my focus on the weight, I’ve seen pretty decent gains. I would go as far as to say the weight should come second to form, if you don’t have form then what’s the point of lifting heavy? All you’re gonna do is injure yourself🤷🏼‍♂️.

I hope my comment helps people. I used to train like Jp where it was all top set and back off set. but I was just training to get really strong and it was all about numbers, numbers, numbers. I had no roundness whatsoever to my physique. I’m so glad i went to training like mike and hany rambods teachings. I literally changed more in 3 month’s training like mike than that old way.

My connection to the muscle is better, I rest more, nutrition is better, form is better, reps are higher quality and slightly higher in number. It is the years of work, the consistency that makes the difference. I use less weight in all my exercises and my muscle pop more now than when I was slinging heavy weight.

I like Phil Heath’s philosophy of “make the weight your bitch” before obsessing with progressing the number. I agree with the overall spirit of your message but there are logical reasons to use a spot because the “positive” of the exercise isn’t true muscle failure. But I agree with your general message that people equate the weight itself too correlatively with progress when building muscle is based on forcing adaptation, not insisting upon its occurrence based solely on a number or extra ugly rep. Strength, as it pertains to weights, is arguably as much of a skill as it is an actual characteristic.

I’ve a lot of time for Mike but this is a pretty bad attitude to have with fellow lifters. Yes, you shouldn’t ego lift (risk to injury etc). But using a spotter is common practice when really pushing your training - why ? Because anyone training with real intensity knows that it’s those last one or two reps that are the pure gold, the real improvement if you can keep form. A spotter gives you confidence to go that extra one or two reps (light or heavy), that’s why it’s common practice with even the most seasoned lifters. This just comes across like having a bad attitude, so you can train is isolation and not interrupt your flow, which is what I think is really going on here.

Why would you need a spot with a light weight? Isnt that essentially what Mike is saying here? Unless ive misunderstood something.
It is quite laughable when people ask for spots on the squats and the person is lifting a massive amount of weight and you can blatantly tell that if the squatter cant get the weight back up, then no one can. Any spotter trying that is risking an injury.
I think that's the overall point Mike is making.

@@tofu-warrior7948 Yeah I get it, frankly I’d agree that trying to spot someone squatting too heavy is dangerous for everyone and to Mike’s point, almost enabling them to injure themselves. But lifters working on strength are gonna be working outside that 1 RM / 5x5 range and hitting 10-15. For us, those last two-three reps are the key to the whole set. And like I said, a spotter for that set is what ? 30 secs ? Less ? A good spotter will even give you that bit of motivation too. I think this title speaks to his audience more then common practice or even best practice.

@@fine163 i get what you're saying there mate completely.
And yes, you could/are right about this being aimed at Mikes audience. I think most of that could be some confirmation bias there mixed in with ruffling some feathers.
I personally have to train around a trapped nerve in my neck and do feel more comfortable going for say 5 reps on a machine than say 5 on a dumbbell press. I'll never be the strongest person in my gym & handling any weight i feel uncomfortable with is just a non-starter, even if i did feel i would gain the most from it - always have trained alone anyway (sadly). Im happy to make small improvements in my physique which is admittedly full of holes anyway haha!

Nice chatting to you on the comments by the way.

Progressive overload will often mean you need a spot toward the end…Reps 7-8 are sometimes a bitch and just a BIT of help is needed…I mean, for fucks sake no one is asking you to curl the shit lol 😂

His theory makes total sense drop the weight and make that weight harder to do with simple technique, different grips, angles, lots different ways to make easy weight much harder to lift!!!

So lifting heavy is not optimal for growing my muscles but at the same time will overdevelop my abdominal muscles?? I am confused!

    • @tofu-warrior7948
      @tofu-warrior7948 Рік тому +1

I just think the point is, if you build too much muscle in your midsection or get too stocky in the stomach area, then maybe crunching too much weight might add to that.
I think that's the point. You can make say 20kg harder than 40kg. Does that make sense? Slow it down, do it properly with connection with the mind & muscle, full range of motion etc
I basically think that's the main point here.
When you've mastered that, then maybe go up in small increments.
