I can't stop visualizing Billy Crystal reading the main character's part.
Besides the book and the 79 film this is the next best adaptation

The 79 film was scary and cheesy, but the Rob Lowe version is much, much better.
I can’t believe Toby Hopper directed the first one. Rob Lowe version should have been a movie inspired by Salem’s Lot. The new one on streaming service should not have been made. Pet Cemetery and The stand were right on point.
Love SALEM'S lot love radio horror i never thought i would love this kind of outlet my imagination is way more detailed and clear than Hollywood could ever do plus in my imagination no child gets abused..

Absolutely adore this adaptation. I think it’s wonderful. I really think it’s beautifully done. I’ve read the book and I think this is gorgeously covered. I love that 70s series. It was fantastic as a youngster when watching the series was terrifying and gripping and I think this drama on radio brings it to life I’m a huge fan of this.
Sadly, it tends to get taken down when the people acting for King go on the prowl. It used to be on another channel I shan't name here but a couple of King adaptations and a few Ray Bradburys were subject to takedown requests. Weirdly they overlooked Pet Sematery though...
I absolutely adore this reading/acting. Listened to it several times. Mad respect for all the actors! I really fall in love with the characters. I always laugh, always feel that fun fear, ...just supremely done! (Standing ovation)😊

This together with Pet Semetary are amazing radio productions, thank you so much for sharing, loved this. It's a shame we didn't see more Stephen King books adapted in this medium, just imagine how amazing it would have been to listen to a productions of The Stand, IT, The Shining, Needful Things, or any other King novel of this calibre.

Loved this radio cast its better than the various movie adaptations that have failed at being faithful to the novel.
Thank you for tuning in and your comment. This was a pretty fantastic cast, crew, production (03:12:10 Credits). One of my favorite horrors by King. I just watched the movie "Apt Pupil." Only now do I realize that that was also by King. He doesn't get enough credit for his talent.
Here in Great Britain, BBC a wonderful organisation in regard to dramas and it has been many times and this is part of it. The radio Dept was absolutely fantastic and this is one of many adaptations of classic novels. The BBC gets a lot of criticism. Yes I agree maybe it’s not ideal with the news and obviously it’s history of employees but it made some fantastic programs , being British it’s wonderful if it’s dramas are admired around the world that people enjoyed them. They really did a wonderful job at the BBC drama dept with making fantastic dramas and it’s proud to be British knowing the world enjoyed our BBC dramas

I watched a lot of BBC programs until I saw Anne Bolyne portrayed by a woman that looked absolutely nothing like her including her race. I've started turning off anything that twists history out of political correctness. Perhaps BBC radio is less odious.

Salem's Lot is a 1994 BBC Radio 4 dramatization of Stephen King's 1975 novel 'Salem's Lot written by Gregory Evans. It combines the psychological thriller and the classic horror genres, making references to Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula at several points and sometimes replicating its storyline.

@@YesterHear This particular series was a sort of 'follow up' to an adaptation broadcast in the same 7-episode format at the same time of year a couple of years earlier - but it also turned out to be the beginning of a clutch of King adaptations on BBC radio. Pet Sematery followed, then Secret Window, Secret Garden. The cast of this version of Salem's Lot has a couple of curiosities - the obvious one is that Barlow is played by the guy who was Pinhead in the Hellraiser movies (big at the time), but the lead actor, Stephen Milligan is a curiosity. Despite looking very much like a leading man he mostly seemed to get radio work in the UK, one of a handful of very busy American accent-providers. And yet he's been seen by millions and millions of people - he's literally the first character to speak in the film 'Aliens' - he's the salvager who finds Sigourney Weaver. He's also played The Joker and Superman in radio adaptations... and on TV he played Richard Nixon in Doctor Who...

I remember watching this on television. They aired it in two parts. Which wasn't the norm back then. I ABSOLUTELY loved the T.V. show with David Soul. I took the book out of the school library multiple times.
I was probably in 5th grade in up.
I saw the remake on TNT/TBS a few decades later. I didn't like that one.
But I know this story practically by heart. I love the way this is is done. I can close my eyes and see every character, every place, every spooky sound. The doing different people's voices, doing different characters. with just the right amount of background sounds. I am ecstatic.
Remake 2024 was on MAX in October very scary.. I enjoyed it..

At first i too thought of Clint Eastwood but as i listened Jason Alexander came to mind. Imagine Jason Alexander as Clint Eastwood. Back to the play, one of King's very best.

The original is one of my favorite movies. The 2004 version was terrible. I haven't seen the new film but can only hope it's better than everyone says.

I will say so far this radio drama, sounds really good and of course, my imagination could create the images in my head, which is why I’m going to listen to the story during daylight hours nighttime’s not a good idea. Don’t listen to anything scary. So let’s enjoy it. I will try to share it more.

This is a fabulous version of a brilliant book.
I like many, love the original movie starring David Soul. It was well acted and, at times, genuinely creepy.
The Rob lowe version was average, and i didn't finish watching it.
I recently watched the latest interpretation and was extremely disappointed. It was a really poor adaptation, and at times, pretty ridiculous. The best thing about it, in my humble opinion, was the use of Sundown, sung by the late Gordon Lightfoot.
