Brother had a "67 Dart GT in the mid '80's 273 with 3 on the tree, 2 barrel. He built the engine up to D-Dart specs. installed a 4spd. That thing was a screamer, wound up fast, and we occasionally missed the second to third shift. Not sure of the RPMs on missed shifts, but it kept running. It didn't get the solid lifter cam and adjustible rockers but that motor revved quick, and would give my 340 a run for it's money. Side note 340 was a mild build, installed in a '57 D-100. 727 with a 2500 stall, and B&M shift kit. I miss the '80's

Good insight!!! Thank you! Partially due to the fact I built the engine, specd the cam grind, wired the car, plumbed the fuel system, flowed the nitrous , and tune the power management. Also, Phil will tell you its a stock 340 with a cam, and then pour 1200hp out on them. Lol. Someone has to speak the truth.
