I can’t wait to show Lazarus some Freedom! Great video!
How are you going to show it from freedom? From His rear view mirror?
@@TheQuestionableGarage Ricer flyby in the shutdown area? 🤣
thanks to y’all I’m now workin on my own car and I didn’t even go to any automotive classes I just learned from watching UA-cam 😂 thanks guys 💙
Glad to help inspire it! Keep having fun.
Beg some books, 📚 📖 📙 they help ALOT old mechanics text books from tech colleges are a safe bet
Yep, I've learnt 1000x more useful stuff from UA-cam then I ever did at school. They only want kids in school to brainwash them these days
To be honest alot of us didn't go to school.
I didn't even graduate highschool, lol. I've worked for dealerships and big corporations, done well and got a few ASE's. Now I work for a high volume, family owned repair shop and I do "the big jobs" and deep diagnostics that they wouldn't allow at the other places. Making good money too!
Crazy thought. Flashback like that usually means flooding and timing issue. Here is the question. Even if ignition is timed correct off crank (TDC), the distributor is timed off the camshaft. Is camshaft correctly timed to crankshaft?
same way off thinking.
my thoughts too , did they degree the cam when installed?
the timing was off,
you saw it run just that bit better in between clips as i'm sure jarrad would have been twisting the dizzy in between the shots,
also the new weights would have altered the advance curve,
meaning you would have had to compensate
100% the timing is wrong. And yes, think it's the cam timing and not the dizzy. I am wondering if they used an adjustable timing chain set and installed it way advanced, or just outright wrong. And to be clear, long before Chris bought it.
LEMME GET THIS STRAIGHT JARED.... You're saying that when "you explode too early", and "slam things in repeatedly" ... you'll end up "having a bad time in your bottom end"?!?! Sounds about right!!
Jared your knowledge is without question but I have to say your presentation is getting better and better. Really natural even when the situation goes sideways. 👍👍
Jared, I run a Holley Sniper on a 350 and they’re very picky about O2 sensor placement. You will very likely have major AFR issues with how you have that installed. At least try to extend the pipe another 6 inches past the O2 port.
Jared, You crack me up talking about how easy it is to do all that work on the engine. Maybe I have gotten lazy over the years, but all that work looks like lot of work.
That's the sign of a good moneymaker. The ability to make easy stuff look seriously hard...
The camera mounted on the end of the dust buster was genius!
Bringing new meaning to the expression, "Fire up the Lexus!"
YEE-YEE!
Lazarus, love it. would be great to see you guys get a certified cage in there and make this into a proper drag car
That bit about distributor was awsome. Gained some knowledge. Ty. 🙂
I mean, what's a little flame between friends? It's a bonding experience.
Also, nice to see Jared is as good as his word and the budget tool box is seeing a lot of use, the wood top definitely looks like it's getting used hard, but still looks pretty good.
It definitely seems like a timing issue, the backfiring and fire in the carb is almost always an indication of timing being off. Nice to see it coming back to life tho.
Questionable choice, stop in Tavarish shop while he’s recording, take the seat out of his Lexus, and walk out with it like it’s a beer in your refrigerator. Or, just go old school V8 guy, and get a milk crate, and put a bunch of pillows behind you over the bars. There is your questionable decision. All jokes aside, I’d pull and check the heads, pistons, crank, fuel pump, and corresponding components for weaknesses that could have been overlooked in a short time frame. Never know.
That sounds wonderfully obscene. Jared is THE RE-ANIMATOR!
I just suggested that name for the car lol
"That's so stupid, and wonderful. Holy cow that's loud!" My favorite moment!
Jump box with the letters DIE HARD AFTER so many attempts with a bit of fire in the engine bay 😂 great video bud thanks for sharing .
Just saw you in Vice grip garage video doing your thing ....you're a great mechanic...well done
Nice Jared nice video 📹 and workmanship don't burn the garage down !!!
Don't worry about PFI. Brent will pout one of his moon tunes in it and kick all the rods out on the first pass.
Brent has promised no moon tunes until we run at least 3 passes!
I learned quite a bit about timing and how bottom ends get ruined in this video. Great information.
Your best hope to make this fast is to rip out everythign that B is for Build touched and start from scratch. Chris's channel specializes in cars that look cool, but are often slower than the stock vehicle they're based on.
love the name of this build, can't wait to see it go down the track
Thats a little fire, that never hurt anyone! Hahahaha, Best start ever!!!!
Watching you help Derek on Vice Grip Garage - stopping by to say 'hi'....
Nice subtle placement of the Ebay logo there. Bringing all these dead cars back, it's like a Romero film up in here.
Jared, your content is always so entertaining! Thanks to you I wrench on my own car now and love it!
Its a 2/4 bolt 350 chev not rocket surgery to get these to go fast. 500hp is the max for these.
Pull engine stick in 383 stroker kit. 400ci crank, 6' rods and pistons. And 15 degrees advance.
My buddy uses this combo all the time.
When chris was doing the the run you could hear timing fall over at top end.
And backfire at carb is distributor is 180 out.
Red dead redemption, would have a good name too
OR Dead red redemption!
Jared is still my hero and Lazarus is a perfect project name.
Holy shit Jared is like a mage bringing cars to live from the brink of dead, careful with the fumes man
I'd be interested to see any power differences between a small block v8 and the original n/a 2jz. Definitely a questionable idea to go backwards in tech but interesting to watch.
You might look into everything connected to the starter, then the starter if that passes you need to look into the engine because it sounds like its very tight.
How about a UZ or maybe a 1GZ V12? Would be cool to see a build on one of those, I can see a 1 or 2 J build anywhere. For anyone who doesn't know, the 1GZ-FE is a 5L V12 built for the Toyota Century, it's basically two 1J's stuck together at the crank, to the point that each bank has its own computer, though that could be solved with a haltech or similar, add some boost and you'll be coasting from half track to run 10's lol
Those fumes are called CARBON MONOXIDE. Don't die on us Jared.... ventilation, ventilation.
Ah, the majestic wonders of the external combustion engine.
I'd be interested to see the power difference between the Holly sniper and a bog standard 650CFM four barrel on it.
Another fantastic show, as usual it was educational and entertaining, Jared you honestly are a good teacher. Could you please tell us how tall you are also it would be interesting to know how you ended up hosting a brilliant show, tell us what your path was, when you got into cars and where you learned your skills, please stay safe take care and all the best from Scotland
I like the exhaust idea... fit for a roadtrip!
I’m gonna recommend getting the seat at least mocked up before you install a new roll cage so you have definite placement for all the tubing and harness mounts
I think Project Lazarus needs either a absolutely bonkers 2JZ Huge Turbo build or an All Motor 1UZ build. It probably wouldn’t be too hard to find the components for an SC400 on eBay.
When first trying to start it while cranking it you could hear a gallop in it . It definitely sounded like at least one cylinder was down on compression compared to the others.
"Dump em out let em breathe" the wisest words my friend vrollick ever imparted on me
Those door cards aren't cheap or common, best to preserve them! If you want a set of LRB lightweight door cards let me know I have a spare set.
Need to review some of the rules for post PFI speed race activities, how much interior is required and how much needs to be stock.
@@TheQuestionableGarage that's fine. Good luck and keep the content coming! If need any spare SC parts just holler, this community sticks together.
Cars here in PNW last forever because they don't salt the roads. Portland has lots of classics from the 70s and 80s around with barely any rust.
Call it hope&glory, hope it starts and glory if it wins😂😂
I think Jared would be more at home if the factory motor was in it. Lol
Jared throw some 18in. exhaust extensions on it for some extra torque in the midrange.
Great channel Jared
What a coincidence! I had a 1988 Ford F-350 dually service truck with a first year FI 460 that I named Lazarus because it also sat for years under trees then I breathed life back into it once I rejuvenated the fuel system and changed the tires.
Going down the checklist. Got fuel. Got spark. Good start.
Why not find a 2JZ-GTE to build out? I get that GM blocks are readily available and can produce great power for the money but would be cool to see a Toyota turbo V6 pushing it down the road.
That's a fine sounding jet boat you have there.
shaggy dog baked-in-the sun with a splash of porta potty great name for the car
That was a very smart decision not driving it w/o a seat.
Lucky neighbors!
One name I thought of for this car was "SCoot" since it's a lexus SC with an LS to pull it. Also as Derek/Vice Grip garage would say "Just going to scoot into town". But Lazarus is pretty great too
I keep seeing people do smallblock things, i cant wait to get my 89 sierra back so i can do smallblock things too 😩
Bloody love it Lazarus is a top name for such a fun project 🤘
A little Terriblefire never hurt anyone. :D
it sounds like it's 180 degrees out . A timing light would be your best friend with a remote starter
I'll tell you what gets the neighbors attention... wide open headers at 4000 rpm at 7:00 am 😁
Car name idea "Sleepy Hollow"
Because it sat under tree's but is a absolute noise machine is when it fires up.
I suggest project name "3rd time the charm" because this is the 3rd SC300 on the channel and so far they've all died or been delayed indefinitely.
The music...that is every Civic's demon...
Can''t wait for the hot rod tune on that SBC to face against the Moontune and if it passes out...time for some 2JZ! (Questionable choice)
This should be called project Phoenix 🐦🐦.....Cause it came back to life from fire
Shop vac cam. I believe thats a worlds first
You can call it Project Phoenix, as it's reborn in flames
Nice work Jared! The flames were really awesome! Note to Tavarish: Please buy Jared some new T-Shirts!!!
By this point Carhartt should be sponsoring him.
Taking on a B is for Bodge project - Brave , very brave.
Nice follow up to the recent "complete carburator tuning guide" by Junkyard Digs, which was in no small part about timing. (My oldest car has distributor-less ignition, so my tuning practice is entirely on small engines)
funnily enough my project car is also called Lazarus because it was abused as a farm vehicle for 5 years and then when the diff blew it sat outside for 2 years before i got hold of it and now im putting her back on the road and planning on doing some midium offroading, its a 1993 landrover discovery 200tdi
That sounds like the trans was slipping that whole pull. But the engine sounded ok. Maybe the converter is just trashed.
Project Blowtorch 🔥
Great Timelapse music again Dwayne!
Narwhal + Lexus = Nexus
Project Nexus!!!
Lit a match to light a candle ALMOST BURNED MY HOUSE DOWN
This engine reminds me of my brain some mornings.
love the name I'm glad you got the car!!^^
With the headers, y them together and make the Lexus 🦄 Narwhal!?
13:05 and you NEVER want that, in ANY way!
2J swap coming
That what i was thinking 2j swap 😂
There is a fully built 3.0 2j short block around the shop, billet main... where does it find a home!
Love the vaccam
The Rusty Tampon!
Weld a freakin' lawn chair in there is you gotta. We need a baseline run for Lazarus!
Awesome video. Matt
I vote for Cherry2000.....If you get that, we can be friends 😁
I would love to see you give this car a fair shake. Take the time it needs to redo the rollbar, install a good seat. And win a race with it after the engine is right. You can't lose to a 4 cylinder, or can you?
Sounds awesome
IMHO that's beyond 'vacuuming' That's a good first step, but I would have put a few plastic bags over the intake, taped it up good, then gone after the whole engine bay with superclean and a pressure washer before I really touched much in there..
If you're going to call that car lazareth then you have to get bullhorn exhaust pipes for it
Start 13... That's the ticket!
One really doesn’t want a bad time in the bottom end
When you gonna take Johnny to the car show in Cleveland.... I would love to see that truck in person!!!!
After he gets a new engine, I tried some deep water crossings while visiting Vice Grip Garage and it didn’t work out to well…
Such a smart dude
It looked like it was blowing rust clouds out of the headers. It idles like it's got a mean cam. Are you going to twin turbos.
Your neighbors didn't notice the van running?
next time you repeatedly nearly burn the shop down, you need to shout "gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which i desire! EWW!!!"
As the Lexus is known as the Toyota Soarer in Japan, maybe you could call the car "Dynosoar'!
So you putting Earl's 1000+HP 454 big block into Lazarus now? You did all that machining on the engine and I'm certain it is almost ready to go.
CSI GEORGIA STARRING JARRED,NICE
