As soon as i hear a single second of any of their songs of any of their albums i know its fudge tunnel. Their records were a good part of the soundtrack to my teenage years. Thanks you guys for that!
Lyrics (I think) What a fucking mess Could you spare us some change? I don't think he's left Could you spare us some change? Catch you up And pull on your face with tweezers Don't screw with me Sucks for chasing our glare And he's over there On a hill, bent up Last time was my mistake Thought he was someone else Catch you up And pull on your face with tweezers Don't screw with me Sucks for chasing our glare So, sure, he got away On our titular ground Wouldn't mean every deed Wouldn't mean every death Catch you up And pull on your face with tweezers Don't screw with me Sucks for chasing our glare Glaaaaare! This, at least, is what I could get from listening to the guy singing. If anyone's got any corrections, or even an interpretation on what these lyrics could even mean, let me know.
The first verse is definitely "What a fucking mess, can you spare any change, my girlfriend just left, can you spare any change" and the last verse im not sure the third and forth line, but the first two lines are "so you thought you got away, well take a look around" iirc Alex had stated in interviews that people shouldn't dwell on the lyrics too much as they don't have much of a meaning. I think that statement was more focused on just Hate Songs however, as Creep Diets and Futility of Ignorance got a lot less cryptic lyrics wise
I'm in my 60s after Iron Maiden came out the nwobhm started . That shit was so good back then . It pretty much started all the different types of heavy metal we have today . I mean witchfinder general, st vitus I saw the amebix then they pretty grungy. To me it's all metal. Metal til death
Haha, funny you should say that. I bought Creep Diets in ‘93 on the recommendation of a friend who said they were a Helmet side project. Glad he steered me to them. This song sounds like an homage to Tweez-era Slint.
In the 90´s there was a label they created to describe the sound of certain bands called "Alterna Metal" . I think fudge tunnel pretty much would fit this category . This sounds like a heavier / darker / more metallic version of Nirvana .
I hadn't heard these guys before today and my first thought was "these guys sound like a heavier more metal version of nirvana" Love the angsty sludgy 90s alternative metal. It's like grunge for metalheads.
alt metal is pretty much an old thing from the late 80s and had numerous incarnations: from bands like The Melvins, Into Pandemonium era Celtic Frost, The Melvins, post Dimention Hattros Voivod, Faith No More, Sound Garden, Skin Yard, Ministry, Godflesh, Living Color, Janes Addiction, and Alice in Chains. To the Nu-Metal and post grunge/hard rock bands of the late 90s to late 00s.
There's nothing called 'grunge'. Not even the Seattle bands themselves approve of the tag. It was a 90's media invented catchphrase to pigeonhole certain bands that sound like Black Sabbath inspired punk-metal hybrids. Sludge metal is a more appropriate term.
skred8 False. Grunge is 90's Nirvana Seattle stuff. Sludge is southern metal, born from the remnants of Pantera's break up and the rest fell into place behind that.
TheOfficialDLT As I've said "Grunge" is a hollow catchphrase. Sludge is more than just NOLA. The term might have spawned from that scene. Actually it was associated with the Melvins first and foremost.
I figured out Fudge Tunnel has a connection to Sepultura, Alex Newport is the lead singer in Fudge Tunnel and he is also the lead singer of Nailbomb. Nailbomb’s guitar player is Max Cavalera, he is the lead singer of Sepultura!
Imagine hearing this in prison while taking a shower and you suddenly drop your soap and then you ask the name of the band and a big black man who snuck up behind you whispers in your ear "Fudge Tunnel" AHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!
Hate Songs had one of the sickest guitar tones of any album ever
All those dudes are still around, what the hell are they waiting for?!
Great album. Heavy as shit
OMG this is probably the heaviest live band, bar Bolt Thrower that I ever saw, criminally underated in the Earache scene.
Not metal enough for the fans of Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Nocturnus and Carcass.
Never saw them live. But loved their collaborations with Sepultura in Nailbomb
@Chase Adams and Igor i mean
it was just alex, aint no one else involved officially. you mr yuck from nova?
Nail bomb sucked
I saw them a few times before they supported Sepultura, apart from Bolt Thrower, the heaviest band I ever saw live.

i shaping my sound around fudge tunnel and gg allin.
They are in one league with Mudhoney and Melvins
Agreed. And don't forget Tad, Skin Yard and Malfunkshun.

sludge metal and the originals at it, or at least one of them
