Phil McGraw, (he’s not a licensed Dr) owns the house next to his and it was said his brother lives there. The “art work” in THERE is very creepy and dark. Gargoyles built into the hallway foyer?
McGraw is neck deep into something bad.

@@catherinegearhart2102 I think people hesitate to scrutinize Oprah because she is an incredibly influential and powerful African American woman with a very devoted fan base and people don't want to be considered racist or anti-black for calling out some of her problematic behavior. Don't get me wrong, I am beyond happy to see someone like her make it so far in TV and change the world like she has. I'm glad to see representation and diversity, especially since she comes from a time when that was very uncommon, but we can't all turn a blind eye to the fact she endorses some sketchy stuff like Dr. Oz, not to mention how she exploited Mo'Nique. I think you can still be a fan of some of her content but critize the sketchy parts simultaneously without being racist but a lot of people might be afraid to do that because they fear they may be canceled or called racist/anti-black for just critiquing her. It's impossible to please everyone. I personally loved when she endorsed Barack Obama, and John Fetterman over Dr. Oz and her bringing attention to the secret movie and the law of attraction. The Secret film changed my life and I thank her for that. I know Noone can be perfect but I wish she wouldn't endorse some of these sketchy guys the way I wish Joe Rogan wouldn't give his sketchy guys a platform like Dr. Phil. Let's hope in the future she outgrows that part of her life and chooses to separate herself from those sorts of types of people.

I got a few good ones in on him though. I asked him if he wanted to give me diet advice (it was right after he got sued) and I also asked if he wanted to discuss why he left Texas ( inappropriate relationship with a patient allegedly) I told him he was the last person who should judge me with his past. I was taken to one of those places as a teen. It was a 1 month program, where we hiked, built fires, cooked our own food, etc. I was the only female, and the boys smuggled in lighters. If you couldn’t start your fire, you didn’t eat. I would lag behind everyone a few miles back, had to walk in the snow barefoot, as my mom didn’t get the right size of boots for me on accident. The counselor would pull me by the hair, and said I would always be a loser. By the time the program ended, I had severe frostbite on my feet, and bleeding ulcers in my stomach. My mom felt so, so bad. I was hanging out with the wrong people, and drinking 24/7. It wasn’t her fault, but I ended up in the hospital for about a week, and had nightmares for such a long time, thinking the counselors were coming for me.

Paris Hilton went to one of those awful teen camps. She’s been very vocal about the trauma she endured. She’s spoken out and used her platform to draw attention to the horrific things that go on. There isn’t much oversight in most states- and when a troubled kid complains & tries to get help or even justice for treatment, they are often not believed- if a family treated their own children at home in similar ways ( sleep deprivation- which is actually a form of torture- verbal abuse, physical abuse, forced labor, etc…), child protective services would be legally obligated to interfere on behalf of the child. But it’s ok to do this if you pay someone ELSE to terrorize your child and claim it on your insurance. Parents are vulnerable too because they are usually scared and fed up - ready to try anything to get their child to behave. It’s so sick to make a booming business out of misery.

    • @tinam761
      @tinam761 2 роки тому +17

It’s not just about getting your hold to behave… I live in constant fear my son could be dead … the weather is cold outside… I worry he’s to cold … if it’s summer I worry it’s too hot (we get into 100’s)
Parents get desperate to save/help their children. Mental health issues and trauma and addiction are just not things parents are equipped for.
I would do just about anything I’d I could get my son proper mental health care. Seriously.

My aunt and uncle were on the show. My aunt signed them up because she wanted to get help for my uncle being verbally abusive and the free counseling promised to her. Up until they started filming she was misled by producers. The episode wound up being about nagging with Steve Harvey promoting some book. They even used a graphic over her head circling “nag, nag, nag” when she tried to voice her side. She was the only one who worked, owned the house they lived in before they married, owned her own business and she did all the cooking and cleaning. The men ganged up on her just to fit the episode narrative. Not surprisingly, they divorced shortly after. My uncle is my father’s brother. She married into my family so I’m not being biased.

I wish the US government would make this type of thing illegal in the United States. Cause this is gonna cause teens more trauma and make them do self harm even more. Not only are they gonna be traumatized for their life, but it will make them have mental breakdowns, and will make them choose bad choices over good choices for example: college. Same. To be fair, though, the appeal of his style is that there are so many people out there who could really use a reality check, intervention from somebody of authority, and a tough love reminder to use logic and facts to resolve a lot of issues. For some reason there are tons of people who can't seem to rise above their emotions for the sake of finding a solution.
It felt good, even tho I knew it was staged, that perhaps somebody out there watching could benefit from the examples of various situations on the show.
Ive always suspected that the people here are either actors or being paid to air their drama out. I also always assumed the programs he would send people to were legitimate organizations and psychologists, even if HE wasn't. Because surely somebody is auditing that and making sure things are on the up and up.
It is disappointing to find out it's a lot more rotten than that and I'm disturbed to hear the things discussed here. Even tho I always knew a lot was fake, I was way off on HOW fake it was, apparently. I feel ya!

I was on the show about 11 years ago. You sign an NDA once you get there saying you can’t talk about how it’s produced, what goes on in interviews and how you’re treated. They wait until you are just about to go on before you sign it and have no lawyer or representative to look over it. What I can say is to pay attention to how many people say “This is NOT what this show was supposed to be about!” That is 100% correct! I’ve heard it over and over and I can relate. Once our taping was over, we were whisked away to the airport and on our flight within 45 minutes of finishing and I haven’t heard from anyone since. Promises are made and promises are broken. It’s really sad. Thankfully, it brought me closer instead of tearing me apart. Our mutual distain for what had happened. Anyway, I’ve heard worse stories and I hope people who have been truly harmed get the help they need.

According to the producers, they didn't pay for the drugs but they drove the guest around L.A so they could get enough drugs to prevent withdrawals. If the guest is in withdrawal, there's no way they could do the show. So the producers make sure the guests have there drugs so they will do the show. Guests fly from around the country, they don't know how to find drugs in L.A, and many guests are afraid to smuggle drugs on the plane so they come without there drugs. many addicts arrive at the dr.phil show close to withdrawal and without any drugs. The guests agree to do this because the show ensures them that the producers will help them find drugs when they arrive.

I have heard some horror stories come out of some of these really expensive treatment centers, how they further traumatize people and end up making their addictions even worse. Maybe a few decades ago these places were helpful, but nowadays it doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Unfortunately the whole industry is focused on money. My husband had a bad accident and was prescribed hard core pain meds (his pain management doctor exploited him and got him hooked to medication because it benefits the doctors pockets), when we decided to get him help, it was damn near impossible even with one of the best insurance carriers and coverage in our state AND with the help of chief of police and mayor of our town (good friends of my husband with extensive network connections). When we finally found a facility so many days had passed I had to convince him yet again to go and then they booted him after four days because he refused to take saboxone strips which can become addictive as well! I do believe dr Phil’s show exploits vulnerable guests and I think there are some good aspects such as the facilities they pay for. There is no perfect system and he wouldn’t have the resources and money to send people for help if he wasn’t exploiting guests for ratings which in turn gives profits and more networking avenues and facilities and resources… it’s a vicious cycle.

Children do have rights and he stripped their rights away from them for monetary gain. And their parents are just as much to blame.

I am so SO glad I never ended up going on a show like this at the height of my addiction- I’m from the UK and we tried EVERYTHING to get me out of rehab as I was so far in it and was DESPERATE for help and close to death- my family did every single thing they could and we were all at ours wits end (I was unable to stop even though I was destroying myself and also the people I love in the process!)
We were so at a loss at what else to try, and there was a show here in the UK called ‘the Jeremy Kyle show’, which is a similar idea where they bring people’s troubles on air then ‘get them help’…. I’m so glad we decided as a family it all seemed like a scam and a way to exploit people for ratings!!! It broke my heart when the guy said on the dr Phil show they left him a full bottle of vodka out- like how can they ever explain or justify that?? That’s like leaving lines out for the state I was in at my worst, and is simply disgusting 😥
I am happy to say as a family and with a LOT of help and support with my best friends too, we got through it WITHOUT turning to a TV show like that but we WERE so desperate we considered it and I don’t think me or the people I love would ever have been the same again 😕 (Jeremy Kyle has now been taken off the air by the way due to an incident that happened with one of the people who appeared on the show)
I’m happy and healthy now and have been a long while but feel Dr Phil plays on peoples desperation for help and uses false promises and manipulation- I went in to researching this with an open mind but the more I see or read about how these people were treated, the more sick and upset I feel 😥xx

Whats sad is when I was a kid, my mom used to not let me watch Disney because she said they were a bad company. She told me dr Phil wasn't real and was dramatized. She said a LOT of other things that I initially didn't believe but since she has passed away, I do. I used to blow it off and attribute it to her "schitzoaffective disorder".
Now after having lived this life and realizing these things are true, I feel sad that no one listened to her and just blew her off. A lot of this stuff is real. And you can have mental illness and still be sane.
Also, side note, but every time I look at dr phil it looks like his eyes are drifting further and further apart.

@saharabarba273 I think what that person meant is he is a doctor in the sense that he does have a doctorate degree and, technically speaking, *anyone* who has a doctorate in *any* degree is considered to be a doctor. It is not required to be a medical degree to carry this title. In fact, there has been a call to action for the United States to start referring to medical doctors as "physicians" in generic terms rather than "doctors" because it has caused a lot of confusion and many people who worked very hard for their doctorate degree have been scolded and accused of fraud as far too many people do not understand that you don't need to be a physician in order to be a doctor.
There's doctors of mathematics, philosophy, education, English, history; all kinds and they did work hard to earn their doctorates and the title of "doctor" even if it's not involving medicine.
To be clear that is not meant to be a defense of Dr. Phil's character, I do not like that his show has exploited people, it is a defense of the term "doctor" as it's a very misunderstood term which I do agree with Sloan that Dr. Phil took advantage of how misunderstood that term is to the public. He may have a doctorate, but he's not a physician and should not be promoting what only a physician has business promoting.

If people want to know more about what happened to Shelley Duvall, look up the making of The Shining. Kubrick basically traumatized her while making that movie, filming in sequence, hundreds of takes (the scene on the stairs with her holding the baseball bat took 2 or 3 days to film because Kubrick was never happy with the take), and also firing guns on set when he wanted a reaction out of her! Anytime during The Shining when Shelley Duvall's character jumps and screams, it's because of Kubrick firing off a shotgun to get the reaction he wanted out of her!

I had a rough time with my oldest for a couple of years when he was 15. I could NEVER send my child away. My oldest is now 18 and he is just fine. He just needed therapy and time to truly understand and accept his ADHD. Hell, I've yelled and walked out of doctor's offices if they even attempted to make it sound like something was wrong with him. One plus about social media was all the young adults making videos normalizing ADHD and helping us both truly understand we are both just fine even if we have ADHD. I would soul-crush Dr. Phil if he tried to come to my family. I feel horrible for the parents who buy into Dr. Phil's crap and end up traumatizing their kids even more.
