Adventuredenali really is my inspiration! She’s such a wonderful asset to this lovely community. Thank you fir name dropping so many wonderful companies :)
I'm definitely interested in that steel dip pen, but i hope to be wealthy enough to order something like that last one! I'll pass on the cellulose acetate, as i would hate for whoever owned it after me to destroy it with the wrong cleaner.
Thank you so much for featuring my pen in this video! It means so very much to me!
Your masterpiece is an amazing piece of art that has traveled the world of FP. If I make it to Europe in the next free years, I look forward to seeing it and you in person to share some inky memories. Bravo! 👏🏾
It was a no-brainer Anabelle! Thank you so much for allowing me to put it on my video and all the questions you helped me with! I'm going to see it in real life one day when I visit Laren!
Beautiful selection!
Thank you!
Simply extraordinary. Incomparable in every way - the selections, commentary, your narration and sheer beauty of these timeless instruments. Thank you just isn’t enough.
Wow! Thank you so much Cynthia! I often wonder what I'm doing at 3 in the morning trying to get a video out. Thank you for keeping me motivated!
Wow, the Symphony is absolutely breathtaking. I can see why it’s the top. Hope you have a great winter break/New Years :) thank you for all the great videos this year.
Thank you so much! The Symphony really is an astonishing pen--I'm glad I had the opportunity to talk to Anabelle about it. Have a great new year too!
Stunning signature intro and finale together with brilliantly shot content and understated commentary, a feast for the senses. Thank you for your work in 2020. Looking forward to a 2021 “ without any fear “
Thank you so much! I love that--it is a good motto for 2021!
Great video as always! Thanks for including links for Bluedew and Drillog. These two pens are at the top of my wish list for 2021.
Thank you so much for your support this year! I can't quit playing with those two pens!
Thank you so much for doing this! I enjoyed it so much! Have a wonderful 2021. And be happy😊🌟✨
Thank you so much for watching--I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have a great new year and be happy too!
I am so glad to have discovered your channel~! Thank you for taking the time to film and create these delightful videos, I have learned so much from them!
Thank you so much! I'm really enjoying and learning a lot from yours!
Hi Alesa, I can only say how enjoyable it has been absorbing each episode of Inky.Rocks this year. Also, your philosophy on life is commendable. All the best for 2021 to all. Cheers Peter, from down under...
Thank you so much Peter! I wish you and your family and friends a fantastic 2021!
Thank you, Alesa, for this look back on 2020. I especially liked the background info on Blue Dew, The Symphony and the update on the Drillog dip pen. We can still get our hands on the Anniversary editions of the Platinum Plaisir. I spotted all three colors both in F and M at my favorite pen shop in Tainan.
Thank you for watching and your feedback! I'm such a big fan the the Blue Dew and the Symphony is mind boggling. That is wild about the Plaisir. Now I can't find any of them here.
What a wonderful top 20! Thank you for sharing x
Thank you! Enjoy your holidays!
Thank you for your videos. Your channel has been one of the highlights of 2020! A wonderful discovery. Thanks again. Best wishes for the festive season … happy and healthy 2021.
Thank you so much. Wonderful people that support me by watching and commenting has been one of the highlights for me this year. I was surprised how much I enjoy interacting with people in the comments. Have a great 2021!
Thank you so much for this fascinating video. I have 4 of these pens and want 1! Your perspective on pens encompasses such a wide price range making this video perfect for anyone! I wish you a very Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for your continued support this year--your feedback is always so valuable to me! I'm glad that you feel this is relatable to many people--that's one of the things I am for. Have the very best New Year!
I love your videos, are pure pleasure to watch :) thank you for sharing your top pens :)
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoy them! Have a great new year!
Very nicely done, soothing, entertaining & very informative. Some unique writing instruments & works of art. Wish you a Joyous New Year.
Thank you so much for stopping by Chris! Always appreciate your take. Best wishes for a fantastic New Year for you and your family!
So many gorgeous pens. I love all the sparkles. Thank you for sharing!
hahaha! I love sparklies too! Thank you for coming along!
i have to say that your voice is so soothing to listen to, i'm not even into fountain pens but your amazing narration keeps pulling me back to your videos!
hahaha! Thank you! What would you like a video to be about? I'm always open to new ideas!
Well i did notice some pretty minerals and fossils as a backdrop in your videos, maybe it's a bit of a ridiculous idea but i'd be interested in seeing what ink or ink combinations you'd pick as a 'counterpart' to your rocks, be it for colour or other properties. I also really love the videos where you drop ink in water and the sped up drying clips, i could watch those forever! :D
@@pay1370 great ideas! Thanks!
This is easily one the best list of 2020 fountain pens on line! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you so much! Have a great 2021!
@@InkyRocks I also live in Asia and visit Tokyo often. I would be very honored if we can meet up one day, maybe at the next Tokyo Pen show after the pandemic.
@@TateJenson Absolutely! Our pen gang like to meet up with out of town pen people and if we can't get a meeting together, we can meet for coffee etc! Be prepared for me to take video of your acquisitions hahaha. Contact me on IG or the email that is on my about page. (you have to click on the email button)
I always look forward to seeing your videos. I especially liked the look of the Drillog. And I’m happy that you mentioned the Sailor Compass as I’ve been looking at it as a first Sailor pen. I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas and received all the sparkly pens you had on your Christmas list.
Oh that makes me happy! Thank you! That Drillog sure looks crazy! Make sure you are comfortable with smaller writing for the Compass and put in an easy flow ink. I've been scribbling away with it this last week and am still enjoying it! I keep trying to stay on a pen diet, but falling off the wagon! Have a great new year!
This was beautifully filmed. Thank you!
Thank you so much!💕
Happy New Year and I am looking forward to more pens and inks. And of course more of these wonderful videos from you.
Happy new year! And thank you so much--I appreciate your support!
This is beautifully filmed. The close-up camera work is exceptional. The background music is perfect. For me, you take fountain pen videos to the next level.
Thank you so much David! I'm so happy you enjoyed it! Have a great New Year!
That Eboya Hakobune is just a beautiful piece! Thanks! Happy Holiday!
Thank you! I'm really enjoying it. Have a great new year!
Fantastic as always! The Moonlit Cherry Blossom is one of my grail pens 😍🌸 I'm so glad you were able to get the neat drill dip pen! It's awesome. And scary, ha.
Thank you! It is an awesome pen and yes, a little scary hahaha!
Great fun to see your 2020 review of pens. The drillog dip pen was intriguing, but I'll probably content myself with the new parallels for the time being. : ) Thanks for your videos!
Thank you so much! I love the Parallels--they're one of the best values for pens out there! I use them all the time.
Alesa, lovely review and that dip pen is too die for. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Peter! It is pretty fun and I use it a lot!
Great video, Alesa! I saw so many fascinating pens here that I had never seen before-thanks. 😊 Here’s to a happy new year!
Thanks so much Eve! I'm glad you got to see some new stuff. Have a great 2021!
Thank you for your elegant videos that meditate on pens, inks, papers, crystals and Japan. With pens, it's a relief not to be subjected to more of that rat-tat-tat hucksterism the fig-boots your sanity into madness! In the new year may you be always calm and amusing and continue to spill ink and drop things like the rest of us.
Thank you so much--I'm glad you enjoy this weird mix of topics of mine! Have a great new year! And trust me, wether I like it or not, I'll be dropping things hahaha!
Thank you for the update on the Drillog - I MUST have it!! LOL. I contacted them through the form and hope to hear back. Thanks so much.
That's awesome! There are several styles and I'm curious to what you get and your feedback on it. Have a great New Year!
This is a joy to watch.
Thank you so much! Happy New Year!
Thank you for your wonderful videos. Your voice is magical, and you’re a big enabler: thanks to you I’ve already bought several new inks I didn’t know I needed, and now it seems my life won’t be complete as long as I can’t play with a Drillog! Hahaha
Bonne et heureuse année 2021, all the way from France :-)
Thank you so much! I don't mean to be an enabler hahaha! I hope you have fun with your new acquisitions!明けましておめでとうございます all the way from Japan!!💞
Fabulous. Happy New Year!
Thank you for your support this year! Have a great new year!
What a wonderful list!
That Drillog still capitivates me. Definitely need to reach out and grab a pair for me and the spouse!
Thank you! They many different styles, and I really enjoying mine!
So also totally love sparkly, blue, purple and pink - great review! Thanks!
Thank you! And Yaay! for sparkly, blue, purple and pink!
Wonderful channel! I'm a fountain pen neophyte, an Anglophone who lives in Canada, and I know no Japanese. Your presentation of Asia-centric information is great to hear, along with the range of very knowledgeable information you share. I'm totally impressed that you used a Dremel tool on the first pen in this video. Best wishes for 2022!
hahaha! I think I've used a hammer on one of my videos (maybe the Hobonichi one?). Anyways--Thank y ou! Have a great 2022!
Another magnificent video! I really appreciate your thoughtful approach and I love your calming voice. And the fact that you add time codes for the different pens and links to them is so useful! Im especially intrigued by the steel dip pen, so cool that you managed to email and get one! My personal top pen this year is the Sobriquet by Desiderata pens. It’s a fountain pen that takes zebra nibs so I get great flex and perfect ink feed. Greetings from Sweden!
Greetings from Tokyo! Thank you so much! I'm really enjoying the dip pen--it is so easy! I've been meaning to look into Desiderata pens, nice to get your feedback. Have a great new year!
Great video--I like flex pens, and I'm excited about the Blue Dew!
Thank you! I am so serious. For that price, it's an awesome flex. And you can get replacement nibs for $30.
That you for your unique perspective on the year's pens. Glad to see you included the Curidas, even though it took two tries for me to get one that writes.
Thank you so much for watching! It's one of those pens that are worth fiddling with as it is so interesting. Sometimes the ink really makes a difference and with that pen, it's not the ink that works on other pens!
Excellent! Truly enjoyed!
Thank you so much for your continued support this year! Have a great new year!
@@InkyRocks Right back atcha, Alesa ... cheers !🥂
Another amazing video. I’m so glad I found you.
Thank you so much--I'm so glad too!
what a fabulous video- thank you
Thank you so much! Have a great 2021!
Thank you for this excellent video. So many beautiful pens! I enjoyed seeing all of them, especially the Drillog, the Walltown Watts, and that amazing Symphony. My son gave me a Morning Glow Plaisir for Christmas and I plan on filling it up very soon, I just can't decide between golden ink or red ink. Best wishes for the New Year to you and your family.
Thank you so much Jackie! It sounds like your son really knows you--what an awesome gift! I forgot how useful the Plaisir is. I've left it around and am still using the ink I did for the review! Happy New Year! (and I'll write soon!)
Thank you for your wonderful channel this year. I'm a fountain pen newbie who found your channel early on in the US shutdown. , I've filled some journals and tried some inks. I learned to slow down. Writing as meditation. Again, Thanks
Thank you so much! It's hard to know what appeals to my watchers and I'm glad you are getting something out of it--I'm a little on the weird side for fountain pen channels. It sounds like you are getting so much from your pens--that's great. They are a real stress reliever for me.
Lovely, simply lovely. I was surprised that I own two from your list: PenBBS 355 and Walltown Craftworks Violet Abalone although mine is in the Catsburg model. Thank you, Alesa! Wishing you a healthy and bright new year to come!
Thank you so much! That's cool that you have two of them! I'm picking some popular ones hahaha! Have a great 2021!
I think it is so cool you are living in Japan and have access to all those wonderful and sparkly pens as well as living in a very peaceful and lovely culture. You picked great pens for your wrap up for sure. Thank you!
As always, tempting and interesting pens (mostly) off the beaten path. I did nab a TWSBI 700R Iris earlier this year (before they all vanished) partly on your recommendation and glad I did. The colors on it really pop when filled with Iroshizuku Yama Buda!
You are so right! Purplish inks look stunning in that pen. Glad you found them interesting!
Great video! Already tempted after this to splurge and get some new pens! Subscribed.
haha! Thank you! Have fun shopping--most most importantly, enjoy them!
I really love the background stones/gems you use to show your pens. And I like sparkles too! (I also like stars ;-)
Bonne et heureuse année à vous !
Thank you! I appreciate people who appreciate the "Rocks" side of Inky Rocks!
Bonne année à toi aussi! Merci pour la pratique du français!
@@InkyRocks Merci ! C'est toujours un plaisir, ma très chère amie.
I recently found your channel and enjoy it for your relaxing laid-back style.
I also appreciate seeing the Japanese imagery and hearing about shops like Maruzen or Tokyu Hands. I left Japan after 10 years there and I’m still missing it terribly.
気をつけてね。🙂
I so hear you! The thing I have missed about Japan (when we have left before) is the food. Close second is all the stationery! I'll be doing two separate videos on both Tokyu and Loft later! ありがとう!あなたも!
The food! 😭 What I wouldn’t give for even the everyday things. I was glad to live far away from Loft and Tokyo Hands (in Ise, Mie) because I didn’t waste every last bit of my money there.
Anyhow, I’ll continue to live vicariously through you.💜
I, too, am excited about the new Parallel sizes (and the lighter colored barrels)!
They are great! Already in my "permanent rotation"!
Thank you Madam, your videos are the best in the pen world.
Hahaha! I’m so glad you like them!
Loved this! Thank you! 😊
Thank you--I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the video. Best wishes.
Thank you! Have a great new year!🥰
Great content, Thank you!
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment!
Beautifully done. I always learn quite a lot from your videos.
Oh, that's great! Thank you so much!
I just ordered a Blue Dew pen (and a pack of extra nibs). I'm looking forward to trying the flexiness of the pen. Thanks for another great lead.
@@michaelsimon4034oh wow! Congrats! I'm curious to hear your opinion after you try it!
I will need to watch this several times because it contains so much info. Might have to buy that stainless dip pen. I'll wait till Jan. When the site is up. Hope its in English. Thanks for all your research and knowledge.
I'm also attracted by that dip pen but it costs something like $200, so I'm priced out.
@Wendy Holiday Thank you for watching! Even if there isn't an English page, just run it thru Google translate--it's pretty straightforward. The current website is interesting. They have pictures of their machines and stuff!
@Ichiro Fakename I so hear you. I had to wrestle with that.
Thank you so much for your support and kind words!
Thanks for a great pen!
14:00 Lovely writing sample, thank you soooo much. Can't wait to write with mine in a month...
Thank you! I'm sure you will love it!
Thanks for the nice video ! Totally inspiring!
My favorite pen of 2020 is a Pilot 742 that I absolutely love.
Happy 2021 !
Thank you so much for all your support this year! That FA nib is pretty cool. Have a great New Year!
Beautiful
Thank you so much!
Out there, there is a Drillog with my name on it. I know it....
Thank you for your videos throughout 2020 ! Can't wait for 2021's :D
Thanks so much! I KNOW there is your name on one! Stay healthy and have a great 2021!
Thank you for the beautiful line up! Best wishes for 2021for you as well! Happy writing! xxx Dag (paperdag)
Thank you so much for watching! Have a great 2021 and writing to you too!
Lovely...
Thank you!
I love your pens. Hoping to get one urushi pen in the future
Thank you so much. My urushi pens are keepers. I've bought and sold a lot of used pens but not my urushis!
Thank you
Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for your great video. They are alwas a delight to watch.
You have shown some really interesting pens here. Very colorful, some are really sparkling. :) Not necessarly my style, but nice nonethless. And the drillog is still very interesting for me. Just contacted the company. We'll see.
I whish you a Happy New Year. That it may be good and healthy. :)
Thank you so much! And thanks for being open minded enough to appreciate what others may like and you may not. There are certainly times I am sparkled out! I'm curious to know which one you get if you decide to get one. Happy New year to you too! Take care!
@@InkyRocks Well, why shouldn't I be open minded. I know I am not the center of the earth and everyone has to have my taste. ;) Would be boring too.
I will see what it will cost me. Shipping to germany isn't the cheapest, as I understood. But we will see. There are some variants I really like. And it would be really great for taking it with me to shows and fairs for testing. And writing on the ink swatches.
I considered making a Top10 video myself. But unfortunately I am not online on youtube long enough, and two of the top 10 pens this year for me were only shortly lended to me for the videos from the companys itself. And I forgot making vids for this back then for a top 10 vid. But you'l never stop learning. :)
Another great video!! I'm glad you followed up on the Shiun - I feel somewhat vindicated over my (at the time) controversial remarks that the pen would not sell as well as the previous models, and that they priced it at about 2x more than it was worth. I believe you said that you'd gotten the pen for ~50% off, which I thought was fair. Platinum got greedy with that pen, and the languishing stock I hope serves as a warning to price the pens more fairly in the future. There is only so much value in a plastic (or resin or whatever you want to call it) pen, and I think they overplayed their hand. When they start pricing their plastic pens within striking distance of urushi, they lose me. This coming from someone who loves "plastic" pens, having tons of Sailors, including the 10th Anniversary Cocktail series.
Thank you! I guess it's a data point for them for future sales. I do think it's interesting that they had two fairly controversial pens this year (I guess as controversial as pens can get haha). That's what makes me think they are trying new stuff, or at least slinging things at the wall to see what sticks! BTW, how do you like the Cocktail series?
@@InkyRocks Oh boy - the Cocktail Series. Confession time: I haven't used the set yet. I've opened it, got the pens on the display case and have admired their beauty, but I haven't brought myself to use them yet. And there's more to the confession: when I discovered that some retailers were splitting up the sets to sell individual pens, I purchased three duplicates - the Kure Azur, Apres Ski, and Tequila Sunrise. I've used all three of my duplicates and of course I'm in love with them. They write wonderfully and are very appealing to my eye. I'm hoping to overcome my clear mental illness in the next month or two by selling off the three duplicates and putting to use the main set. LOL The crazy things these pens make us do!
@@troywhite8980 hahaha! This is hilarious and yet I totally understand! That is a gorgeous set but it was a little pricey for me because I knew I would do exactly what you are now!
This was a joy to watch. Thank you for taking the time to make this. If I may ask, how long have you lived in Japan?
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've lived off and on in Japan for me and my husband's work. This stint we have been here for 5 years.
And another pen bought...my goodness, what kind of inky mesmerism are you practicing through these videos????
hahaha! I hope you enjoy it and use it a lot!💕
Great review per usual. I am enjoying the Shiun 3776 by Platinum. I love the style of the facets. That is actually what attracted me to the pen in the 1st place. I saw a clear version on your review. I did not know that was available. Or was I imagining things?
Thank you! I am also enjoying my Shiun! Those facets are really big in the gem cutting business--they reflect a lot of light. If you are talking about this video, I showed a clip of the Rokka. It is a clear 3776 with a kind of cut glass pattern on it.
The drillog is amazing. I love mine. Need to get some more inks. I have an aluminum version, but the stainless was on my radar. Might have to get one eventually.
Awesome! Did you get it at TIPS? I think the aluminum would be nice as it's lighter.
@@InkyRocks That's where I bought mine😊 They did have them as well at the Tsutaya in Daikanyama. I've just moved back to the US on this past weekend after 11 years in Japan. Hopefully I can move back in a year or so.
@@dial001 Oh my goodness! Thank you for watching my video in the middle of being so busy! So you are a Japanese stationery pro! When you make it back, let me know and come to some of our pen meets!
I will definitely make it out to more events once I’m back. This was my second TIPS to attend. One of my Japanese friends from Osaka always knows about stationary events and usually points me in the right direction. Hope we can have some meetups in the future. Yoroshiku🙇🏾♂️
Hello Inky! You’ve inspired me a great deal, so thank for that!
Your Urushi pens are stunning. And I had to laugh in regards to the Curidas. Agree, good for Platinum for stepping out of their box. But, it sure is an odd one! The glass pets are gorgeous. I’ve been wanting to find some special glass pens, maybe that can be a 2021 goal.
I missed the debate in regards to the new platinums. They are really beautiful, and I do like the design of them quite a bit.
So great to know about the Blue Dew!
Such a great video. Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on each pen, your perspective is a great contribution to the community.
Thank you so much for stopping by and your kind comment and feedback! It's interesting to see what pens people connect with. We really are part of a pretty cool community. Have a great 2021 and I'm looking forward to your take on it!
@@InkyRocks well you and @adventuredenali produce some of the best content on the web! I adore your presentation styles and knowledge.
All the pens are lovely but the absolute cat's pijamas of them all has got to be that metal dip pen! I haven't been able to find any of the websites you mentioned where you can order one. Looking forward to their website being launched.
It's in the pinned comment but I would hold off till they get their website up. Currently, they are not shipping overseas. It's pretty expensive during Covid and this is a brand spanking new part of their company. It's hard for them to keep up with stocking the stores here. And I love cat's pajamas--haven't heard it in awhile!
One day....sparkle cap is a yes for me too.
Hope one is in your future!
I love Sailor so much, I almost wish I lived in Japan
haha! I really don't have a favorite company. I like all three of the big penmakers in Japan--I think they put out pretty high quality pens. Sailors though, probably have the most fun designs!
Thanks for sharing your appreciation for such a variety of pens. Do you think $100 delivered is a fair price for the Blue Dew pen? The acrylic looks familiar from much cheaper pens.
Thank you! Yes I do! That is why I basically said that the pen is nice enough as far as looks--it's OK. But to get that good of a flex in a pen (and it comes with a case!) is very hard to find and especially at that price point. I'm a big fan of Pen Realm's Secretary of de Flex nibs (I have two of them), but they are around $130. Well worth it, but you still need to buy a pen. That is why I think the Blue Dew is a great value.
Thanks for sharing. Seems difficult ordering the Drillog dip pen. Especially for those who don't have face book, tweeter or the like. If you have any suggestions I'm open to it. Also, what do you think about the price on the Blue Dew? Seems pricy for a steel nib. Compared to what`s out there.
Thank you! You need to go to the website on the pinned comment above. It is in Japanese but you can use Google translate. If you have problems with that, they will have a new website in January and I'll post it. The Blue Dew is a wonderful value because I have not found another steel nib with that kind of flex other than a Secretary of de Flex. Other steel flex nibs are more stiff and tiring. Gold nib flex is way more expensive.
What was that metal dip pen? I'm trying to find it again in your videos. You mentioned it and I want to get one but I can't find the video :(
From your other comment, I think you found it! Just in case you didn't, in the pinned comment there is a link to the website.
Is there a link for more information on the Drillog? I’ve googled and searched and unable to locate the site.
If you look at the top of all the comments, there is a pinned comment. There is a website there. They are currently not shipping out of Japan (but they may have plans to do so later) however you may be able to use a proxy service.
Thank you what a nice video!
I want to buy「Blue Dew fountain pen 」.
but I don't know that where I can buy it.
Could you help me? Where can I buy it?
Thank you very much! If you look at the top of all the comments there is a "pinned" comment that stays on top of all comments, that I wrote. Look in that comment and the link to the website for Blue Dew is there.
I would like to seek on how to find more information on the Symphony pens.
There is only one. It's on display at Appelboom Pennen in the Netherlands.
Thank you so much
